I know this is an older video, but I only discovered you three days ago (hopefully that rings a bell?😃) and there are two things that may interest you that it appears you haven't already done that's related: 1. BDSM movie rec - "Quills" it's a fabulous 'what if' film based around actual events starring Geoffrey Rush as the Marquis de Sade (as well as many other amazing casting choices). - After all, we wouldn't have the "S" without him. (If you view a physical copy, the writer's commentary is also something I think you'd enjoy as he includes a lot of research, historical tidbits ect.) 2. Regarding "50 Shades" if you want a deeper understanding without losing your mind by enduring the books yourself - Dominic Noble covered them in his "Lost In Adaptation" series even bringing on a Domme for additional expert feedback regarding the accuracy and "acceptability" (rather ethics) of Grey's behavior in any "Dom" or kink scenario.
You know. The thing that unnerves me the most is that it's CLEAR at the beginning neither of them want this child, but speaking about abortion or adoption, he gets super upset and acts like a brat, THEN she wants the baby, THEN after she almost dies he wants the baby. Textbook pro-life het wetdream.
I mean, I am not surprised that a couple who got married without even discussing children and are super rich choose to cut the guy's hair by themselves with office scissors.

So, a "fun fact" why you likely enjoyed the first movie most. The first movie was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, and she gave a damn about trying to portray the feminine part of sexuality. however, James basically threw a hissy fit about it, she didn't like it, and insisted on a takeover and a change to a male director. It also shows cinematically with some of the shots, where two and three both are very conservative with their shots of Christian. The change of directors as well had Dakota Johnson pretty much showing up to shoots drunk for the later movies, because she just wanted to get it over with. She and Jamie talk about it a lot in interviews after the fact.
You mean EL James. She said the film wasn't shot to her standards. Stephanie Meyer wrote the Twilight Series, the story EL James ripped off... which was JUST AS ABÜSIVE.
I don't know if anyone has suggested this before, but have you ever seen 9 1/2 weeks? It's from 1986, stars Mickey Rourke & Kim Basinger, and is based on a book as well. However, it draws directly from the author's personal experiences. I think Lindsay Ellis did a pretty good analysis of the books, which can translate to some questions people might have in the movies. It was originally a fanfiction and it was updated weekly so a lot of plot points went nowhere because it was written for the sake of being popular. Her video is pretty good at explaining the way the plot was written.
This is sort of correct. The woman he is seen with is an old friend of the family who is a designer (I think) for remodeling houses and she just happens to be there in Aspen (because rich people) lol because these books need drama.
Also...... they used to bone. Apparently, Elliott had a long history of sleeping around that ended when he met the BFF. There is a lot I don’t like about this series both the films and books but the thing I hate the most is how everyone doesn’t seem to care about the abuse that Elena inflicted on Christian. The only person that cares is Anna and they make it seem like she only cares because of jealousy even when Anna explicitly states that “ no this woman abused Christian and I don’t like her because of that” ugh even Christians mom seems to think slapping Elena is enough

hey kat, the air bubbles in the paint could be because the first layer of paint wasn't totally dry this creates the bubbles, btw I love yours movie reviews 💖
There's a scene in the book they smartly left out of the movie (tho I think it's a deleted scene), where after Ana falls asleep topless on the beach, Christian takes her back to the boat and they have their "scene" (if you could call it that lol), but he leaves marks on her breasts, which is a hard limit for her, to punish her for being topless and to stop her from getting topless again. It's SO gross, and I've had a similar thing happen to me (with a fucking Dommy McDomerson *eyeroll*), and it can't be said enough how shitty it is to have your boundaries completely ignored. This shows that E.L. James has such a fundamental misunderstanding about BDSM. She has two of these punishment scenes that aren't really punishment, it's revenge. And I'm not saying shitty doms can't/don't engage in this, but for the most part, they don't! It's so annoying! She does throw a hairbrush at him though, kinda wish we saw that lol. Also, if my husband decided to punish me that way after having a KNIFE TO MY THROAT, I'd be filing divorce papers and taking his money so fast.
I'm supposed be working on a story imitation right now but your video popped up so I'm just gonna procrastinate and watch this while I bake some cookies.
Based on these sort of recaps, the bdsm isn’t that bad but damn these people move fast. There’s so much Anna doesn’t know, there’s no way they know much about each other after a few months
I believe it was either Folding Idaes' or Ananda the Jedi's review that mentioned the plot point with the architect/Christian's brother was he was spending the day, with her, getting help shopping for/picking out Kate's ring.
“At this point I lost interest in the movie, long story short...”🤣🤣🤣🤣 The fact that you had to cut it short because you lost interest, I’ve never seen that happen in a review, ever. But that was hilarious! 😂🤣😂🤣
When I originally read the books it was all very new to me and I knew some about BDSM, but not the level I know now. Each time the two characters interacted I remember having a sense of unease, but my mind defined it more as a thrill because I didn't know what they were supposed to be like. The movies don't show just how little disregard Christian has for when Anna says no. There were MANY scenes that were cut out or toned down that made him seem more respectful of her wishes and that she had more of a backbone. In the first book there is one part where she sends him an email and tells him no, that she isn't interested in a relationship then goes for a jog after their first time having sex and giving her the contract and he blatantly ignores it shows up at her house uninvited, backs her into a corner about why she said no then seduces her into having sex with him. This is just one example of a time he refused to listen to her saying no or that she was uncomfortable about something he was doing. I don't think they make it as clear either in the movies that he deliberately bought the company she was working for BECAUSE she was working there. He controls every aspect of her life usually without her consent and when she protests it falls on deaf ears.
The books definitely go deeper especially the ones from Christian point of view you understand of why he is the way he is and they are both having therapy in the books to work on his issues, his therapist actually explained it to Anna in the way that Christian basically didn't have a chance to go through puberty normally thanks to Elena and the other stuff going on which is why he is acting the way he is now ( basically like a teenager with their first real relationship) he doesn't know how to have a normal relationship. Also yes the situation with Elliot and Kate did get resolved in the book it turned out the reason he was acting so secretive/edgy was because he was planning to propose and he just happened to bump into that woman when Anna seen them he was showing her the ring that he had just picked up.
Love the way this video is put together! I watch a couple reaction-ish channels and they usually talk about scenes etc, but don't include the clip in the video; either for spoiler purposes or because they just saw it in theaters etc. I really like how you put your live reaction as the clip to the part you're referencing!
This made me feel like I was watching a bad movie on purpose with my homegirl. I very much enjoyed this vibe. I'd be curious to see you do this kind of video to romcoms. Aggressively vanilla and heterosexual. That would be fun.
I remember when the series first came out. I was already exploring the world of bdsm, but even then with the limited knowledge I had I could tell the books were soooo...off just soooooo bad. Not researched at all just...ugh. now over a decade later, the pain is even worse 😫 Edit I have to add i read the books. Didnt see movies the books are vastly worse from what it appears. Ana is not submissive like she thinks. Grey basically wants her to be something she isn't she is still developing and its irresponsible of him as the dom to take her into a role like that and marry her and all that. So he is a horrible dom as well.
Loool okay, it's implied that the architect, Gia, was helping Elliot find a ring for Kate...so no cheating. This film was so ridiculous to me honestly. So glad I didn't watch it in cinema🤣🤣🤣🤣
Elliot wasn't cheating. It was implied that yes he "messed" around with the architecture in the past but that they are friends now and he was having her help him pick out a ring, I think the shop they came out of from across the street scene was a ring/jewlrey shop.
I just saw all 3 of your reviews for this series and you put more thought into the BDSM of just the first movie then E. L. James did into the entire series. It's almost like someone drunkenly tried to explain to her what BDSM is about after having read some article about it on Buzzfeed.

Didn't even watch sequel 2-3, your commentary and review was perfect enough for me
enjoyed the whole series, thank you for these!
Dying at violently heterosexual🤣🤣🤣🤣
A couple of months ago she was a virgin student without a computer, and now she is married to a millionaire and is the head of her own office. 👌
She didn’t have a computer? 🤨
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAT!!!!
But can we talk about that tub scene when they are in Aspen. I would love to have a bathroom with a view like that 😍
I remember when the series first came out. I was already exploring the world of bdsm, but even then with the limited knowledge I had I could tell the books were soooo...off just soooooo bad. Not researched at all just...ugh. now over a decade later, the pain is even worse 😫
Edit
I have to add i read the books.
Ahhhh I've been waiting for this one !!! So excited. Thanks Kat
Elliot wasn't cheating. It was implied that yes he "messed" around with the architecture in the past but that they are friends now and he was having her help him pick out a ring, I think the shop they came out of from across the street scene was a ring/jewlrey shop.
Your reactions were so funny. Loved watching this!
Being ace and bi makes this entire ordeal extremely surreal.
The saga continues oh lord 😭😭
Nails look great!
I saw on twitter that it was your birthday, happy birthday!!
It’s Good to see you 😊 hope you’re doing well
Thanks for the laugh, these reviews are hilarious (and insightful).
Hey Kat! You look stunning as always.
Just watched all three 50 Shades reviews back to back. This has been a trip.
I just saw all 3 of your reviews for this series and you put more thought into the BDSM of just the first movie then E. L. James did into the entire series. It's almost like someone drunkenly tried to explain to her what BDSM is about after having read some article about it on Buzzfeed.
I love your reactions it must be so much fun to watch movies with you 😂
