Being a Marine 🇺🇸 in the USMC and having done multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan & being a 8 year veteran.. I can tell you now that the 1911 waa design for you to ride the safety with your thumb.. That's the correct way to fire the 1911 & even the right way to unholstered and Holster the 1911. With your thumb on the safety.... Rock island get a bad reputation but honestly I love both of my RIA 1911 10mm's. I have The FS A1 8rd without rail and the FS A2 16rd without rail.. I've never had any problems with them.. I also own a Ruger SR1911 10MM and I love it. I also have a Taurus commander 1911 .45acp. It's a very smooth shooter... long live 10mm and keep the .45 alive... Good video. Oh and I must add. Both my RIA 1911 10mm's ran both full power fmj & jhp rounds to weak target rounds to medium power fmj & jhp rounds.. I'm seriously thing of getting the RIA 1911 in this video lol I'm just a big ol 1911 fan. I love .45acp and 10mm. They are both good rounds..
I’ve had one for 2 years and I got 2 complaints. I live in muggy East Texas so the finish didn’t do so good. Recently got it cerakoated. The grip screws weren’t torqued too well so I lost one of them before I tightened tf out of the rest. Other than that, still no jams or anything. If you’re good with a heavy pistol, it’s great
I just picked up the 9mm version of this one and I absolutely love it, wasn't ever crazy about rock island before this 1911 which I had bought several, but rock island really done a solid great build on these, the slide is tight to the frame no rattling at all, barrel has zero movement in full battery, and the slide is so smooth is feels like it is on ball bearings. If you do get the chance to pickup this unicorn don't hesitate its well worth it in my opinion.
I bought this pistol for the sole reason that it has magazine compatibility with my Para P14-45. After my first range trip with the RIA, I went and bought another one. The Para stays in the safe mostly, but one of the RIA's is with me on every range trip. It is a really well built pistol, albeit very large and heavy. Considering the 14+1 firepower it brings to bear, I don't mind at all. I have not tested it with any exotic loads, but all types of 230 grain ball run 100%
i picked up mags from armscor, the 13 round never again. for that gun only get the Mec-gar Para-14, the mag that came with the gun is the best mag for it.
The best thing is that Law Enforcers here in the PH get a special discount for this specific firearm. Pretty solid review buddy! I'll be getting one soon. :)
Well..I was on the fence about using this as a duty pistol....but if bruthas in blue are using it in Pinas...that's good enough for me..¡Gracias por la información, hermano!
I've got the TAC Ultra FS HC in 10mm and its barrel is 5.5" long, with threads. The magazine holds 16 rounds. I've heard nothing but bad things about RIA's 1911s having failure to feed but I ran the entire break in period without a single malfunction. Pretty sure the malfunctions are caused by people limp wristing it and not properly cleaning and oiling it after use.
Excellent and detailed review brother! I work at a gun shop in Ft. Worth TX. This bad boy came in on consignment, maybe with a few rounds run through it. Had to snag it!! This is definitely a unicorn. Awesome gun; too bad some 1911 purists thumb their noses at these. Another great thing is that this uses the same Mec-Gar mags that my Para-Ordnance Black Ops Recon .45 uses, so I am solid on mags. The grips are the same as on the Recon as well. FYI - Surefire X300 or X400 fit PERFECTLY. Completely flush. If you find a good holster for it, please share! Keep up the good work!
I just just got one. Your right about the mags. They could have thrown another one in there. Got it for a decent price and although I have five or six 1911's, I don't have a 1911 (2011) double stack. that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Fun Fact: Rock Island Armory made several hundred thousand double stack .45ACP 1911s for the Filipino army. The Philippine military has a bunch of double stack .45ACP 1911s in their inventory.

To Anyone: Do you recommend any particular mag that does not require any changes? It just comes with a single one and I am having random lock up open while shooting so I need more mags to see if it is the mag or some other problem. When I am shooting sometimes I notice it locks back with rounds in the mag, the round has move forward a little, I remove the mag, push back the round, try to pull back on the slide but it is locked up, I have to push on the slide release and pull back on the slide to unlock it. This happens randomly. I am a left hand shooter so I know I am not accidentally pushing on the slide lock lever.
