    Sit-ups - you are definitely going to be doing a lot of these in basic training, so let me show you how to great a great sit-up routine for you. All right first of all what I am going to want you to do is get down on the ground in the sit-up position. In order to do sit-ups it is best to have someone holding your feet. Now this is a typical sit-up from start to finish. Your fingers are interlocked behind your head. That's one complete sit-up. Now this is the routine I want you to do. I want you to go halfway up and halfway down until exhaustion. Now what that does is that builds a certain part of your muscles in your stomach. Then, once you have reached exhaustion, wait a few minutes, and then do the upper half crunches. Do that until exhaustion, ans that's one set. So you've got lower half and then upper half. You want to do that three times. Okay so that's how to do a sit-up and that's a great sit-up routine. Now abs are a little different because you can work them every day. It doesn't require as much muscle recovery time as your other muscle groups. So if you feel like you can do it again the very next day, you are not sore, don't work out when you're sore, if you're not sore with your ab muscles go ahead and do that whole routine again. Next week you might want to up it to four sets, and who knows, if you want even add a small weight or a rock or something safe to your chest, maybe about five or ten pounds, and do some sit-ups that way as well. What you are doing is you are replicating the exact movement that you are going to be doing at basic training, so that also helps with muscle memory retention.

    I'm going to try this method. I'm 42, at 38, the most situps I did for an APFT was 81. Now, just 4 years later, I'm only doing around 55. Just doing the standard all the way up just isn't working. I'm doing these now for a few weeks. Then do as many full situps as I can to see if it works.

    • @jpd782
      @jpd782 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They seem to be working? The upper situps felt a bit weird. Didn't feel like I was working any muscles. After a couple weeks I was able knock out 40 non stop. I still do these but haven't tested my full situps since. I have PT test in October. I SHOULD be where I need to be by then.

    about to rock your world. having your feet down makes it a hundred times harder. when your feet are flat your hip flexer is disengaged meaning all the work is in your upper core. point your toes up and youll notice a world of difference. I would practice with feet flat for extra resistance, then when test time comes point them toeies up and max out

    • @AlexLococo
      @AlexLococo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the only difference between them is that sit ups have more resistance against your abs because of the increased weight further away from the axis. The muscles, however, move exactly the same, and as such, curl ups can help you replace sit ups altogether if you feel you're too tired.

    You heard wrong, thats nearly as dumb as saying I heard adding more weight on the bar for bench pressing is useless. Anytime you add weight/resistance to a movement its going to improve your strength, explosiveness and muscle endurance depending on the amount of weight and the set/rep ranges etc.

  • @thekrocken
    @thekrocken 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you work out, you tear muscles. Afterwards they heal over and become bigger and stronger. And if you work out while sore you skip the healing process, and basically all your work out is for nothing and you just end up twice as sore.

      +Alex Tobias I use things around the house to hold my feet down, try putting your feet under your bed, couch, or end table. It really helps to increase your reps, speed, and form when you have something holding your feet down.

      WildBluGirl Correct, it puts less stress on your neck and when you get tired, you won't use your arms to help you. If your neck still hurts, try doing some neck stretches before the exercise.

    I would say not to have your hands behind your head when doing sit-ups or a motion like this. Keep your arms across your chest with your hands on your shoulder but not squeezing your shoulder or grabbing your shirt

    • @jesusestanisladoreyes9897
      @jesusestanisladoreyes9897 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacob Schilling in the military you need to have your hands behind your head at all times in order for it to be a sit up even at JROTC raiders they say to keep your hands behind your head 👍
