      Steve_MTB We appreciate that thank you 🙏. That’s where I went wrong. Focusing looking ahead, arms straight and just getting that balance point was the key to holding the manual 😀

    Great vid, it took me 2 years to get it pretty dialed. I struggled a lot and went back and forth with doing them really well and then doing them very sloppy and unbalanced. You’re completely right about keeping it short and relaxing. My go to check list in my head is “clavicle down to the stem, heals down, arms relaxed with my torso upright, pulling with my back not arms” sounds like a lot but it works.

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll take any help I can get to learn the manual - could you explain the "clavicle down to the stem" bit?

    • @concrerto
      @concrerto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zomambik picture you’re pushing off a wall when facing it. When you start your chin will be against the wall. That’s how I come down to the stem, torso upright, collerbone towards the back of the stem, heels down, arms relaxed but strong grip, keep torso upright when bringing your hips back and low, your arms will straighten and the front end will raise. Keep your eyes forward and think about your legs as the balance adjusters not your arms.

    im 39 and practicing the manuel for 8 months, longest distance i do is around 30 mtrs but 1 in 10 tries, my avarege is 14 meters. Someday i finish my practice with a really good one and i told my self this is it i learned it tomorrow its gonna be much better but tomorrow boom worse like a beginner. This back progress always make me mad and break my motivation. Things make my manuel training much better are, doing them well rested and feel strong, good warm up before session, definitely learning it first in a down hill area it supports you alot, and try to be the body shape similar to wheelie its just not sitting the seat. Also practicing coaster wheelie helps your manuel a lot, especially staying at that balance point problem. As in this video mentioned stay relax and do not overtrain cuz it gives you back proggress its a very athletic move and make you tired quickly. Manuel machines definitaly useless dont even try to build or buy them. Doing manuels on a moving bike is completely different.

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kerem, it sounds like you are doing a great job. For sure Manual machines are a waste of time (in my opinion). I recommend changing up the area where you practise, try on steeper hills, then hills with less gradient, keep mixing it up :-) You've got this!

On a positive note I'm doing ok with the track stand. For me I think its confidence. Age might be a factor at 61. But I will not let that beat me. I fit and healthy so just need to keep chipping away

      Good effort mate. It just takes time and persistence for sure, it’s a skill that always needs to be worked on.
      We were just doing a wheelie video for Meg, where I get her to step off the bike 🚲 on purpose when she lifts the front wheel too high, this way you eliminate the fear and know what todo if you do go to high and don’t use the back brake quick enough.
      Hope that makes sense,
      Just remember, push directly down, then push your body weight backwards and as far back as possible, this for sure will lift the front wheel (down and backwards has to be 2 separate movements when learning)

    You've arrived at similar conclusions to mine regarding learning new mtb skills
    - session 20 min max and end on a good attempt. Normally I do 20 min + 10 min break (practice other stuff I already do quite well) + 20 min.
    If at some point during that second leg I hit it right, something I consider the best during this whole session, I stop. Even if it's only the 5th minute.
    Well done on the manual. That final footage is awesome!

    Brakes mate... just can't get the brakes. I've got grabby Shimano XT that probably don't help, but they stop me looping out!! I can get the front wheel up, but the second I touch the brakes to stop a loop out I'm back down. I've got a manual machine and can hold it there, no chain for a good 20 seconds, touch of the brake just after getting the front wheel up, and then pump with my hips to hold it with the odd touch of the brake, arms straight.., but when rolling along, down and back, from wheel up, hold for a second or two, goes slightly too high and touch the brake and I'm back down. I noticed you learnt almost coming to a stop right up on the back wheel when you talked about balance point etc.. any tips for brake control, e.g. down and back, front comes up, are you already feathering the brake or do you go back too far and grab come brake to compensate? Awesome video, thanks so much for sharing!!!!

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy, I have XT brakes on my Nukeproof Mega, and for sure they are grabby, but the key is to just keep grinding. What will happen with more practise is, when you use too much brake, your body will counter act this by moving further backwards, thus keeping the front wheel up in the air.
      Only consistent practise will help, as you body/brain will figure this out through repetitions. You may not realise it, but every time this happens you are learning, and something will just click, like it did with me in the video.
      You can see and hear my frustration, but I assure you, it will come dude :-)

      @@LukeMegBiking Slowly getting there, just been working on the balance point. I just noticed you've got a Decoy! Awesome bike but I don't know how you ever got that into a manual, it's so heavy I can hardly get the front off the ground!! I think that highlights that I'm perhaps not putting enough weight back or not pulling the front high enough.... I need to trust those brakes more! Still such an inspiring video mate!

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@norcorider2005 For sure the eBike needs a lot more work dude. I remember sweating buckets a year back on my first bike (Cube stereo 160SL) trying again and again to manual, and I never got close. It was moments like that where I thought "enough is enough" and I just kept at it. If you can wheelie, I recommend doing one and purposely going too far back and just jumping off the back using your legs to support you, which reduces the fear of over doing a wheelie or a manual, so you can really get your ass far back on the bike to lift that from wheel during manual practise :-)

Because I see that you have the same “style” as me in that I am also a bit high above the wheel and when I compared myself to videos I thought that I should lower myself. So my question is whether you are doing your manuals lower compared to when you started and if it helped you or the height was not an issue? Thx

    • @LukeMegBiking
