Just installed a renogy 100ah lipo battery in my gladiator. Run a dometic cfx3 45 for 33 hours and bed lights for about two hours and it used 14 percent of the battery. I consider that pretty amazing. I have the renogy dcdc charger to install. So I believe the single battery is going to be enough for an accessory battery. Thanks for the good video
Great overview Matt, this exact subject is currently my search history. Lol.. I have been going back and forth with this one for a few months now. I think I've made my mind up, looks like to lithiums are going in the back of the WarHawk Gladiator.
Another Hiker owner (Mid Range XL 5X9) here . Bought mine back in September of this year, and it came with a 100ah Dakota lithium. What size inverter are you running?
Great video! I want to switch my camper over to Lithium and was curious about the Renergy battery so this is very helpful! I always learn so much from your product reviews!
Another great video.i did all the research for my trolling motors. Would have been nice to have all the info in one video like this. I use the same batts for overlanding and the boat and just trade back and forth. Only thing you didn't mention was you need to make sure the charging system is lifepo4 compatible. Other wise it will damage the battery . Great video
Had same issue with the diesel heater. Two 100 amp agm at full charge but kept getting low volt error on the heater. Lucky I had a shore power option to plug in and the invertors extra little boost got it to start and didn’t need shore power after that.
Great video. Only thing i didn't hear in the video is if you have a shore charger built into the trailer make sure its capable of a lifep04. I has to swap the one in my trailer out when i made the switch.
Does the 490 have a DC-DC charger to charge the trailer batteries while you're towing? I know you have the redarc onboard Sully for its' house batteries.
@Ozark Overland Adventures that is pretty sweet. I know there are only a handful of trailers out there that do from the factory. The AC-DC converter in ours supports lithium but we had a hell of a time getting it switched to support the right charge curve for LiFePo4 and we are installing a DC to DC along with an auxiliary cable to support the charging at full amps when towing.
Just saw where Dakota is running a sale on a number of their lithium batteries until 1/1/23. My Hiker Trailer came with their 100ah lithium, and I was pleasantly surprised at the light weight of them compared to a lead acid battery. Oh yeah, 11 year warranty!
I like that you can monitor the status and it has a long life. I wonder is that extenally vented so it could be installed inside the passenger compartment?

Does the Bluetooth monitor work correctly when you have more than one battery in parallel? Do yo have to do anything special to see both batteries on the monitor?
Good video I’m going through the same thing right now. I bought a diesel heater for winter camping, and in order to get it to start requires some amperage. It’s the only thing I use that requires power. The diesel heater that is I’m not using refrigerators and other things because Iat this point pretty sold on yeti coolers and their efficiencies and simplicity but as I venture into a power supply system I have researched the typical solar generators, and I have not read a lot of great feedback for how much they cost and the longevity. So I am looking at buying lithium batteries and making my own system so if one component fails, it should be much easier to repair down the road.
@@TygerBlueEyes The Redarc is just a different charge controller. I will add a different inverter at some point to power things from AC when needed and not plugged in to shore power.
It died. LOL. But I think it was a crappy inverter and not because of placement. I have a much better quality Renogy 2000w inverter mounted in the middle on the side of my drawer. It's doing great!
Hey Matt. Great video and information. Question though, you mentioned about the cold temperatures and a internal heating that is activated at a certain temperature. How low of a temperature can these be used? We live in an area that gets below 0 for days/weeks. Will the internal battery heater keep up at 0 or below? Thanks
I know these did just fine in our recent few days in the single digits. I haven’t tested them in anything colder or for longer periods of time and hope I never have to. 😂 You could call Renogy and check with them to be sure.
My experience: Within 1 week of 20a dc-dc charging at about freezing (32F) temps, the self heating function seems to have broken. Renogy says I have to warm up the batteries first before the heating will turn on (no, I'm not kidding)

Awesome review but this only applies if the battery works as advertised. I got that exact same lithium battery and it died in two years, nowhere near the 4000 cycles.
But the math gets even better Matt. In order to get the 100 AH out of the AGM your need two like you said, and you'd do that twice in order to get to the 4000 life cycle of the LFP. Even better after the 10 years and two sets of AGM batteries you'd STILL have to buy a third set because the LFP would be down to 80%. The AGMs would be useless. I don't think this is even said and stresses enough about LFP is you can ABSOLUTELY use them below freezing, my DIY battery's can be run down to -20F. The other thing that's not said enough is the 32 degrees is the ACTUAL battery temperature NOT the physical outside temperature. Throw those battery in box and just using them MAY keep them above freezing.
LifePo4 battery is good but can't do too good in very cold ass weather I live in Toronto Canada we get cold ass weather get up -25 or more how would those battery work in very cold weather I mean freezing cold wether am here thinking I have power station I build Friday we get bad snow storm I was out side in the cold weather it was snowing like hell I was out in cold weather snowing so much
That would be a question for Renogy since I have zero life experience in that cold of an environment but these are self heating so they may work for you.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Harsh shock and vibration can cause batteries to crack. I am not sure how long you have been off-roading but it happens. Just be careful.

According to Conqueror there’s nothing to change and it works fine.

Lithium seems to be the latest thing with 4wd. Not sure about this

Might want to rethink all your water crossings with the Lithium Ion battery. They can explode when exposed to water.
That’s Lithium Ion. This is Lithiun IRON Phosphate. These don’t do that.
