Best of luck with the move.
Just a suggestion for the new garden, maybe try putting in some native plants that flower at different times of the year to support your local pollinator population.

This is so exciting! Word to the wise, if you're doing renovations before moving, work on staying calm and don't be too attached to a moving-in date. Renos always delay, and that's normal! Don't put too much pressure on getting it done by a certain date, try to enjoy the process and keep in mind that it's better done well than quickly! When I last moved, we sold our place in January, were out of there within the month, didn't close on the new place until March, only got the keys in May, and were only able to move in in August. Looking back now, I'm so happy we didn't rush things and had enough time to make everything perfect (or as perfect as could be). Wish you all the best in your new adventure, and I'm excited for the moving vlogs!

Please consider a "natural" garden with lots of native plants. It is so important for bees and insects. Check which flowers are useful! There are a lot with no nectar or pollen, or flowers where the insects can not access. Every 1m2 counts! And native plants can look exactly as good as all the (invasive?)Neophytes!

I feel the same way about the TV! I have a projector that I’ve been taking from apartment to apartment and have honestly just used a blank wall (my walls have been white so it worked beautifully). It’s such a wonderful addition for those cozy nights with friends when we want to watch a movie or have a video game night!

A big tip for new homeowners is to designate a place and a binder for your home's information. You can place all the appliance paperwork, warranties, diagrams, copies of the insurance and title paperwork and any photos of wall interiors.
When you reno a bath - place wood behind your wall board or plaster so that towel bars or any other hangers are securely fastened to the wall.

    Congrats on the house!
The morgage part IS truly scary but once you have it all figured out and signed it just kind of ...is.... (It's like paying rent only that you own the whole thing in the end...).
With the garden take some time! You are lucky to move in when everything is green and lush so you can see what is going on, what you like and what you dislike before you change things. Also talk to the neighbours and don't forget to get all the important tipps from the previous owners (not only for the garden). All of those tips can be extremely helpful (and things you might not have thought about).
And don't fret the decoration part. We've been in the new house for half a year now and I am still getting the feel of most rooms (and waiting for kitchen reno to be done) before really buckling down on how I want rooms to look, feel and be functioning. It all just takes time... Have fun and good luck! Looking forward to the moving and house vlogs.

Congratulations. Your new home sounds fabulous.
_Small suggestion for the Vegetable Garden_ - Use your front lawn. You can arrange the beds so that they form into a little path that leads to a bench or an Elizabethan herb-knot garden (if you want to get fancy you could make it a pebble pathway). Vining plants like cucumber can be trained up trellises. Intersperse the vegetables with permanent flowering plants like roses, hypanthia and a flowering bush (like a lilac - sorry, not sure what grows in your region). That way you can get a good rotation on the vegetables and still have plantings in the winter. It's a great excuse to talk to the neighbours and leaves the backyard free to do with what you need.

Honestly you don't even need a projector screen, you just need a blank wall, and projectors themselves come in a range of prices but you can get ones pretty affordable. You will need to buy a speaker too though, that's something I didn't think of until I tried to use my projector the first time and there was no sound lol!

  • @eiya3

The projector idea is definitely doable, my parents have a huge projector screen on one wall and the projector unit just sits basically directly underneath it on their cabinet. It's pretty cool!

Advice from someone who became a homeowner just a year ago: the moving, the renovations, the finances, everything can feel so overwhelming and hopeless at times. Just take one step at a time and believe, that all will be fine eventually, because it will! When it comes to getting workers to do the renovations, try to contact multiple people and get multiple quotations, not only to get the best price but also you can choose who do you trust and if one of them disappears right before they would need to start the job, you have the option to call the other one. (Yes, speaking from experience!)
Oh and I am absolutely sure that you will love gardening! So excited to see all the moving and home iprovements videos.

You should look into container gardens for vegetables; you can grow tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers (and more) in 5 gallon buckets that don’t take up too much space. I did this on my balcony back in the day when I didn’t have much outdoor space, and it was great!

  • @hstratford88

Congratulations!!! I have the same thing about TVs being the focal point of a living room. Our solution was also to have a short throw projector which you can position closely to the wall and we use it on an off white wall - it works really well instead of a pull down screen. In our old place it just sat on top of a side board but in our new home we have suspended it from the ceiling.
I am half dutch and the terraced homes you showed make me very nostalgic to visiting my family as a child, they're such lovely homes! x

I am so happy for you and Robbert! This is going to be such an amazing new adventure for the two of you. I remember the process of going from an apartment to a house. Keep an open mind with all things and be flexible. I hope everything goes well for you! I cannot wait to see all the moving, renovating and decorating content on you channel. I am so excited! I love your ideas for decor. They sound a lot like my own. Antiques meet Ikea furniture is exactly what I have. I think of it as cottage-chic-ecclectic. I think you might be inspiring me to add something fresh to my own home or move things around a little.

When you move in have an essentials box with you. Toilet paper, tea, coffee, mugs, kettle etc. All your charging cables, light bulbs, toiletries, towels and anything else important to you. Next, very important, set up and make up your bed . Before anything else. At the end of a long day, that always goes on longer than you think it will, being able to just fall into bed is magic. Enjoy your move, expect squabbles, be kind to each other, good luck and good fortune

I don't even know you but I'm so happy for you. I've heard you talk about how much you wanted more space and how hard the housing market has been for you. My big moving tip is to grab a little notebook dedicated to logging your packing. Number every single box/container that you move - apply it on a piece of tape if you want to remove it later. Then list the basic contents for that number in your book. When you store containers, place the numbers on the visible end. This allows you to find what you are looking for or to ask someone to retrieve a box.
Also helps to take a photo of the box half filled!

We have lived in 4 new homes. 3 were older. My husband has worked in the housing industry for years. I have one very important tip for you, when finding a contractor, ask around. Friends, family who have actually had a contractor. We have seen inexperienced friends who hired a contractor and it has been a negative experience. Here in Washington State you can get a license to build without any experience. So roofs being installed wrong creates BIG trouble. Work being done shoddy has been a real problem then trying to get them back in to fix it almost impossible. Having an excellant reputation or track record here is the only way of knowing what your getting. Hope this is helpful!

I have a very small yard and grow all our veggies as well as fruit trees and a TON of flowers. It's very possible. The English excel at micro gardens. I have all the herbs and grow most of our salad greens. I have persimmons, and raspberries, and several trees. I use tubs and raised beds and plant very densely. I don't have the sideways rain like you all do, but I do live with a LOT of rain and dark and my plants do fine. You'll get addicted. It's a lot of work, but so is going to the gym!

Home ownership is…fun. While it’s great to have your own space, just remember that home ownership comes with its own set of issues, and some of those issues can be costly. And renovation costs can add up very quickly. You never know what you’ll find when you start tearing down walls and ripping up floors (as examples) :/ Just some things to remember :) Hopefully the previous owners maintained their appliances and everything follows code.

you could use pallet collars to grow vegetables in, not as much as when you have more space but it should be enough for the two of you and that should fit in your garden.

A tip...take time with your garden. Grow it slowly...do not just go and buy a bunch of random plant life. There are lots of garden ideas on pinterest, that are very helpful. That way you will not waste money. And your garden can be the vision your dreaming of. Instead of a mismatch of plants. Above all have fun with your everything in this move. You will have to get used to all the extra room. After living in a 1 bedroom apartment. I am so excited for you both.💖 Blessing and good wishes on your new home. Can't say I'm happy for you enough😄😆🎉🌳🌱🌸🌹🌷🌼🌻🍃

Congratulations on the house. I'm so exited for you!
You can definitely garden in little space. I grow herbs and vegetables (on a small scale of course) in pots on my balcony and I love it. I have peppers, chilli's, tomatoes, green beans, celery, rocket and different herbs. It is great to just get some things for dinner. Don't be intimidated. Just start out small.
And do get the projector! I have one (bought a budget one years ago and it still works fine) and I project on a blank white wall (no special paint, just white latex) and it's the best. I agree it is not the vibe to centre a living room around a tv.
Can't wait for the house tour and renovation content.

  • @aliplay5
    @aliplay5 2 ปีที่แล้ว

the projector instead of a tv is life changing. I'm in a studio apt and have no place for a tv but when I got my projector it made movie nights a regular occurrence. I just project on a blank wall (take off the wall hanging first) and they are not more expensive than a tv at all!

  • @emilysmith2784
    @emilysmith2784 2 ปีที่แล้ว

What we did in our house was install bifold doors into the garden and for blinds we got an automatic blackout roller blind which was black on the outside view but white on the inside and when we watch a movie the blind is the screen. The only thing I would say is that you cannot use a projector in the daylight so might not work if it’s going to be your only TV set up.

I am so happy for you! I love how you're describing your style and the vibe of the new house! 😄 After moving two years ago, I've come to the conclusion that my style is industrial farmhouse. I like the cosy, cottage-y feel, but I like to add a lot of black metal accents to give it a modern touch and make it feel a little less old-timey. I didn't know 'industrial farmhouse' was a thing, but Pinterest says it is, so who am I to disagree with that? 😄

congrats to you and Robert! So from a wife/mom whose moved about 9 times, realize that making decisions is the part of the process that will get tiresome... It's a lot of mental load. As far as a garden goes, you might like Shaye Elliot on youtube. She has a great sense of beauty and balance and creates lovely spaces. It takes time though. However, I find weeding to be therapeutic, as long as you like your own company, sunshine and dirt.

I like that you included pictures for reference on the house style and decor that you mentioned. I'm not familiar at all with what houses in the Netherlands look like, so having some images as you describe things is very helpful! Good luck in the month of June and looking forward to all the house content!! 🏠

Maybe I missed it but I am really curious in what village you are going to live, if you want to share of course, no pressure! My husband and I also bought a house outside of Amsterdam (Weesp) and I can't wait to move in. I also intend to make a sewing/knitting/crafting space in the attic and I am also very into the cottagecore and vintage aesthetic (the coincedence), so I am really looking forward to see your video's on that! Goodluck with moving next week! :)

From herbs I think mint and lemon balm is easiest to grow, they just grow on their own. I don't thing there is such thing as low maintenance fruit trees, pests are always a problem. I would recommend raspberry bushes, I don't know if we are just lucky but our raspberries grow every year without any issues with pests, we just need to clip them before winter and that's it, really low maintenance. While our currants are attacked by greenflies every year, we tried every natural way to fight with them, we only use products that are safe for bees.

Blueberries are great too! And are so beautiful! Apple trees can be pretty low maintenance health wise but you do have to keep picking up the fallen apples since they cant be mown over!

Best thing about raspberries...you don't even necessarily have to buy them. Propagating them from cuttings is fairly easy!

I’ve grown lavender, thyme, and rosemary and they are all super easy as well! Rosemary needs the most maintenance- but by that I just mean that it needs water and space to grow or it can go badly, but it’s also so useful so a great thing to grow.

@@sofapop653 oh and basil! I also LOVE Mexican sour gherkins! They look like very dainty ivy vines with tiny little watermelons! They make adorable pickles too!

The nice thing about Mediterranean herbs is, that they grow quite big and bushy with proper care - and they look very decorative that way.
So they double as ornamental plants, pretty much, especially with some large stones in between.
Although I've seen chives, that were quite the sight when in bloom, too. And bees love them 🐝

How exciting! Congrats too! Do you have any community/nighborhood gardens in your area? That could be a way to grow your own veggies and all. Just wondering. I have a pretty nice little yard, I had intentions of gardening but I just don't have a green thumb :( There's a city garden but I can't always visit it.
