I went to a restaurant recently where in the actual stalls behind the toilet they had an art piece and to the side was a picture and bio of the famous artist like they would have in a museum. haha it definitely inspired me to do it in my own bathroom!
Oh my goodness we had a birthday calendar in our bathroom for 25 years while I was growing up and I had no idea it was a Dutch thing - I grew up in Canada but all 4 grandparents are Dutch. Makes sense now!

The birthday calendar being a Dutch thing explains so much! I'm Swedish, and have only ever seen a birthday calendar outside one of the bathrooms at my grandparents house, and always wondered where they got it. My grandparents are also Swedish, but they have Dutch friends so they must have gotten it on a visit to the Netherlands!!

I absolutely LOVE the dress you are wearing at the beginning of this video! Just a suggestion about your curtains. Seeing as you have to sew the seams and hems anyway you could line them at the same time. It would block out even more light and would make them look much more luxurious. Curtain lining (unbleached cotton) is very inexpensive in IKEA as you know.

The toilet birthday calendar made me laugh when I first visited my Dutch bf family’s home (unheard of in the UK) but it’s actually a great idea!

I love your bathroom gallery wall. In my powder room (I am from the USA), I have hung three original paintings and put some small family photos on the vanity countertop. I love how your bathroom turned out. Really lovely. Enjoy your holiday!

Can I come with some advice, as a professional trad harpist and string instrumentalist? If you have a spot to keep the harp where there's no/little direct contact with the sun, please move it there :) Same goes for drafts, temperature changes and weather. This will keep the strings healthier for longer, as well as the wood. :)
I like the birthday calendar! We spend so much time in the bathroom and love the productivity aspect of it for the little things in life. In the US so I may give this a try!

It's quite hard to be South Asian and not have a house with a gas cooktop, at least. So many of our dishes do best when cooked over gas - even the most basic phulka roti won't puff up without being puffed on gas. I will likely end up choosing electric for my gas for environmental purposes, since our energy company uses primarily renewable energy, and we don't use much energy anyway. But I might buy/find a secondhand mini gas portable stove with just one burner for the times I do need the gas for my cooking.
Can confirm, I have a Emma mattress. I used to have awful back pain. From one night I could feel the difference. After a week I have no more bad back when I wake up. Awesome mattress.

I didn't think the bathroom decoration was odd either, but what do you know: I have Dutch grandparents and they have both the artwork and the birthday calendar going! My grandmother is very artistic and famously gifts a new calendar to family and friends for each new home they live in. She tailors the design to the interests of the recipient (birds, flower, canal scenes of Amsterdam etc) and decides between doing a month-by-month or 3-month-to-a-page design based on the proportions of the new bathroom!

I live in uk and also put pictures in the bathroom! In fact we got a load of funny postcards etc and put them in frames in the bathroom for people to have a little giggle while they sit there! 😂😂
Me too but kind of rude vintage style signs. Mother hates them but father thinks they are funny.

I have a beautiful landscape photo over our toilet and a mirror with an antique gold frame and linen mat on opposing wall. Bathrooms can be lovely also. Not just spare and utilitarian. Love your video!

I'm so jealous of European month-long summer holidays, I hope you and your family have a great time! I'd never heard of putting family photos in a bathroom but to be honest it makes a lot of sense. Where else in a home are you going to sit and stare into space every day for a while, several times per day? Remember good times is probably better for your mental health than doomscrolling twitter.

Couple of things:
Birthday calendar- I’ve had a large calendar which I keep in the bathroom. It has a column for special days (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) as well as columns for each family member’s plans (appointments, parties etc). I find it a normal thing (maybe I’m part Dutch?)
Suggestion for the light above the table (and this is from experience), go higher rather than lower. You are Les likely to bang your head when setting and clearing the table.

We hang pictures in our bathroom as well. Not family pictures but decorative pictures. Usually landscapes or floral arraignments.

Family pictures and birthday calender in the bathroom is also a common thing in Belgium :) (hi from Brussels !)
i live in the midwest, and my family has always had pictures in the bathrooms, but my dad is from canada and my mom is from seattle, so 🤷🏼♀️? it feels very normal to me, although i guess we tend to put very thematic pictures up (i.e. a beach picture or something a seashell if the bathroom is beach themed) rather than just family pictures
Save that tool because it makes terrific letter opener or box opener or craft tool. I have several which were promotional gifts from local businesses.
I feel like the office would feel more open if you do the desks on one wall, side by side (opposite the door wall) and the kallax unit on the other wall laid down on the long side. Although if there are other reasons you have it done this way of course it's your room. Just thought it might look nice. Either way, very excited to see everything coming along. Hope you and your husband have a very exciting and joyful holiday. Excited to see new content when you come back. :D

Team decorate your bathroom here ! 🖼 In France we have a lot of posters, post cards, usually silly or less appropriate for the rest of the house. Let's not kid ourselves; there's a lot of sitting going on there haha. As a child we also had a lot of tiny books, a little Privy Library if you will 📚 And I remember vividly these birthday calendars, though there are not used as much now I think.
Anyway; as always, love you home and that you finally have the space to get creative ! 🌿🍃

We're apartment hunting at the moment and it's a mess 😂 We just want a three room space (not three bedrooms - just three seperate rooms) and "competition" went up from 4 other interested parties to like 30 other couples/small families fighting for square meter space that got priced way too high just because there's an additional wall somewhere. You're moving series gives me an intense itch to follow in your footsteps and redo my living space, but alas, i have to wait. and i'm totally stealing your colour palette, that's for sure. I love it

Hi, don't think pictures in the bathroom as odd, I've always had art of some sort in the bathroom, it feels odd to have bare walls, so in mine I have artwork, flowers and living plants and it's a tall narrow climbing plant and before anyone thinks well its OK but you need lots of space to do all that, my bathroom is 6' x7'. Have a lovely holiday and I look forward to seeing you again in September. 💖

Not unusual to have a calendar with birthdays on in the bathroom, I grew up with one (live in the Southern Hemisphere and calendar’s are quite common in bathrooms). It makes sense.

How does the Netherlands handle biogas? You saying going completely towards and electric households sounds to me (a dane) completely counterproductive, since we use biogas for heating. Biogas is produced my farm-, food- and sewerwaste and is therefore more green than electricity. Atleast here, since you need to buy extra electricity in the winter anyways, unless you have a buttload of solarpanels.

The boxspring comes with a mattress! We got the Deluxe in 180 x 200 cm, elegant type headboard in beige with natural oak legs and the flip topper 😊
