      @@CarswithMiles @11:27 Looks like 2 mi/kWh was the average, roadandtrack reports the Silverado EV has a usable battery capacity of 205 kWh. As such the range for the truck in this video looks to be around 410 miles, which is consistent with Roadandtracks numbers who said their trip computer showed anywhere from 1.9-2.3 mi/kWh (389-471 mi) during their test. So depending on driving conditions/style, 440 miles seems plausible.

      What non EV people don't realize is this truck with its huge battery (over200 kWh) will be very expensive to "fill" up on road trips. Many charging networks are charging over $.60/kWh. So to fully charge this truck it'll cost over $100 per session. Couple with the 24-inch tires tells me this truck is one expensive truck to operate.

      @@hvu6037how often are people doing road trips vs sub 100 mile trips to and from work though. And being able to charge up at home every night or every other night would be really nice. @@hvu6037sorry in advance for the lengthy reply - just trying to be informative. So, with an adapter for a Tesla supercharging station, the cost of non-membership charging is $0.40/kwh 5am - 11pm & $0.32 11pm - 4am. Membership rates are $0.36 5am - 11pm & $0.23 11pm - 4am… Tesla supercharging stations are also very common, so worst case scenario, assuming you pull up to a Tesla charger as a non-member during daytime charging rates the Silverado EV will cost $80; for a 0% to 100% charge. By comparison, a 2024 ICE Silverado 1500 has a fuel capacity of 24 gallons and if you multiply that by the U.S. average cost of fuel ($3.40/gallon) the cost of fueling an ICE Silverado is $81.60. For EV owners who are willing to pay the $12/month membership for Tesla charging, the cost of daytime charging for the Silverado EV would be $72 for a 0% to 100% charge. Now, if you have a home charger, the cost of charging greatly decreases. The national average cost of charging from a home charger (at daytime pricing) is $0.14/kwh, making a 0% - 100% charge cost only $28… and if you were to charge a Silverado EV overnight, while you slept, a 0% - 100% charge would cost $16, at approximately $0.08/kwh.

    I don't understand why you're hating on this truck so much. It has twice the range of a cyber truck while towing at max capacity, the hitch probably won't ever snap off, it can be in the rain without the owner having to worry about it getting rusty, it has a bigger bed for ya know...TRUCK THINGS BECAUSE ITS A TRUCK, it has all the functionality of a regular gas powered Silverado. You hit the nail on the head, this truck is for the utilitarian, like a Gpaw or Dad. The Silverado is filled with hardware. This is more appealing to older people and people who don't want to spend thousands of dollars to replace electrical components. The cybertruck and R1T are aimed toward a different market. The R1T is more practical for my lifestyle because I am a city/beach dweller. Unlike my siblings, I don't live on countless hectares of homestead, needing to haul a massive daily workload with ease.
    That being said, the range is amazing on the Silverado EV and you can get up to around 250 miles towing 6k! I don't see myself towing anything around 6k but that is pretty cool, considering that the Cybertruck and R1T have around 85-120 miles of range while towing 6k. The Silverado EV price tag is insane, but the range is unbeatable, especially for long distances like real road trips.

  • @benblankenburg

    Cool (by my definition) is when a truck is capable of doing what a truck is supposed to do with the maximum range possible. The range (especially for towing) in this vehicle is what we've been waiting for. The Rivian and Cybertruck are great gimmick vehicles, but they do not deliver in the areas where we need a truck to perform. It's unique that a cybertruck can tow a Porsche very fast for 1/4 mile, but most truck buyers have very little use for excessively fast and extremely short towing.

You're lucky to get half that towing or loaded and it's freaking expensive. I honestly don't get the hype about it. @@tywott333 that’s another common misconception which is that *gm* isn’t profiting from investing so much into a bespoke EV platform. They are. That’s why they’ve been able to beat Tesla to market in several segments _and_ undercut them in price. GMC released the Hummer EV supertruck twins which is a HALO vehicle 2 years before the Cybertruck was seen on a road. If Tesla is so profitable what took them so long? If they’re so profitable and the engineering and technology is so much better, why is Tesla self driving systems linked to more crashes than Supercruise that’s been active since 2017? Why doesn’t Tesla boast the most affordable EV instead of *gm* with the Bolt and now Equinox?
      Tesla’s aren’t actually superior to *gm* EVs in anything but maybe speed, otherwise they’re in the same exact race they just received a 10-15 year head start. *gm* is on their ass.

So around town stop-and-go driving may actually have more range than highway driving if that's the case.

The Silverado was created for the everyday person that has an ice truck that is looking to convert over to electric to save on gas. It's your basic simple truck with an electric power plant. Given that it's not using the chassis from the gas Silverados, it really is its own model, and looks and behaves more like an Avalanche than anything else. I'm convinced they only used the Silverado name to go for the build-in fan base of the #2 selling truck.
      I had an '07 and a '13 Avalanche, and once they announce the models that are closer to 50k than 100k I'm going to seriously consider this for my third 'Avalanche'.

    At least they answered the problem with modern day truck beds by ripping off it's own Chevy Avalanche. The midgate is very innovative and solves the problem with being able to load a sheet of drywall or plywood without it hanging off the bed of your truck. Remember these things are supposed to be used for work?? But at $100k it will just be a rich man's toy.

    The commentator is supposed to evaluate the product and give their opinion on the good , bad and uglies of the product . You don't evaluate an airplane and say that it doesn't float along the water as well as others . He continues to mention that other pickup trucks will accelerate quicker than the Silverado ev , as if that's the purpose for buying a pickup truck . This is an absolute foolish point to make , but I guess when you have nothing else , you use what you have . Pickup trucks aren't designed for quick acceleration because of their jobs . The sports car is designed to perform in the fashion of a quarter horse and the pickup truck mirrors the Clydesdale and I hope that that is plain enough for this guy , if he pays attention to our comments . The Silverado ev can do all of the pickup truck stuff really well and it absolutely stands alone as far as driving range is concerned . It has the mid gate and every pickup owner knows how much of an advantage that is . They are all similarly priced and they are all better for the environment . So instead of listening to a biased commentary , get some sunshine and check em all out for yourself America . You won't have any immediate regrets , you'll get a little exercise , you'll definitely meet a few more Americans and your choice will be without any assistance , it'll 100% your decision and how much more free choice can you get ? I love this country , like I love a plate of red beans and rice on a Monday y'all !!! Not dats New Orleans , God bless America and I'm out 🎭

    Cybertruck and Rivian are small cars that I won't load a full size plywood into, more for show than for practical use, but what does this boy know about that. the size of the battery to drive almost 400 miles is terrifying, charging it and the price in a public place will be astronomically expensive, and I won't mention the insurance

  • @TiffanyJackson-h1z
    @TiffanyJackson-h1z 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Did you research anything? Rivian does have driver assistance. The Silverado truck is way better as a truck than the Cybertruck. For me the Rivian is my first choice and this is second.
    You were getting 2.0 or better per kWh. As someone said you would get over 400 miles.
    This truck is better for towing than any other. People will get 200 miles or better when towing. Have you seen Out of Spec with the Silverado EV work truck? GM will do better than you think selling this truck. I see Cybertruck owners trading in for this.
    Here’s something, why are so many Cybertruck’s ending up on the used car market?

    It's painfully obvious where your loyalty sits It's not with GM. I am really not sure where to begin? 300 or so miles of range really? Jerry rigs everything said around 450 miles plus, a folding rear seat to the rear gate the heated camping options would be amazing. Like Tesla Model Y when you attact a tent. You can't easily gain access to the passenger compartment with the Cybertruck or Rivian. Ford Lightning with a rear sliding window may work who knows? Heads up display like 8 inches on on. The other are well behind in these areas.

      When Chevy briefed us on this car, they brought up the Tesla cybertruck many times because that is going to be a competitor of this car by nature of both of them being real EV pickup trucks. Regardless of my opinion on the cybertruck, it's the most popular electric truck (and EV) out right now. And I think it makes more sense to compare the Silverado EV to the CT, R1T and F-150 Lightning as those are more utilitarian focused than the Hummer EV.

    • @G-Rated
      @G-Rated 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CarswithMiles The Hummer EV twins are just as popular, Miles. CT’s design is such a polarizing loud cry for attention that of course it will be “popular” whether you’re impressed by it or not. Unlike the Hummer, Tesla CT isn’t popular because of its specs, performance, features, innovation, value, class leading space or practicality. The Tesla is popular because it’s the biggest distraction on legal roads to-date.
      The marvel of engineering that is the Hummer EV has proven to be more versatile and useful in everyday situations. Silverado EV is much closer to the CT but can’t discredit *gm* beating Tesla to market based on a popularity contest.

    The "Cool Car" shopper demographic is a very minute slice of the pie. Hence the reason Toyota sells so many vehicles. So who honestly thinks that the Cypertruck will change the way trucks are designed? It comes down to what type of vehicle fits the largest number of uses and does them well enough for most people to want to purchase that same design again. There is a very good chance that the coolness of the Rivian and Cybertruck will not be enough to keep them from being the last of their kind by their manufacturers.
