I'm 51 years old when I was a child around 12 Iron-Man, Spider-Man, The Hulk and Moon Knight were my top four favorite Marvel characters, so you can't imagine how much a kick I'm getting out of seeing them do Moon Knight right best start of any Marvel series thus far.
The new suit is Mr Knight. In the comics, he's more of a detective type that works with the police so he's kinda like a consultant that's recognized by the police. In this series, the different suits is most likely used to represent who is the dominant personality. So Steven's suit is Mr Knight while Moon Knight with the cape is Marc Spector.
This is one of the few instances where you finish one episode and you already wanna jump into the next one. Much like WandaVision this series will definitely make me wanna invest more deeply into its main character (as i wasn't really into both Scarlet Witch and Moon Knight in the comics).
10:55 - From what I can see online, Ammit is the goddess of divine retribution. According to mythology, Anubis (god of death) would weigh a person's soul against a feather Ma'at (goddess of truth). Those souls able to balance the scales were permitted to move on to the the afterlife. Those souls that were heavier than the feather would be devoured by Ammit. So the whole "Ammit is bringing about a benevolent world" shtick is a sham when you examine the mythology. 17:19 - As far as I can see, he doesn't "judge" this random guy. He just kills him, making everything he's said up until now even more suspect.
Yes, Ammut the Devourer was merely there to devour the souls of those judged (really only the nobility able to experience the "deluxe version" of Duat) to be impure. If anything, Ma'at is the goddess of Justice & Truth, and so perhaps might fit the bill of a vengeful spirit better.
Fun Fact: Mjolnir is made from Uru metal from the moon meaning Moon Knight can use it. In the 616 he took both Mjolnir and the Silver Surfer's board to gain the powers of Thor (Odinforce) and Silver Surfer (Power Cosmic) making him essentially a God. Given prep time he's as good or better than Batman.
Hey, Magy! The key moment of this episode was that Steven refused Harrow on the basis of his own moral convictions apart from any influence by Khonshu or Spector! The Steven persona may be a milquetoast nebbish but he has a firm belief in what is right and what is wrong. A hero in his humblest state. This is the hallmark of all MCU characters except the misbegotten Captain Marvel. Her depiction was a betrayal of her character. The MCU version requires a major humbling to just be interesting now. The dapper three-piece suit known as Mr. Knight is from the more recent Jeff Lemire run on the comic that has Marc locked up in a sanitarium for a good bit! The bus's serial number was WBN 0032 which is an Easter Egg for Moon Knight's debut issue "Werewolf By Night" #32! Layla is original to the show. Marlene Alraune is Marc's archaeologist girlfriend in the comics who is extremely frustrated by his DID but can't get enough of the Spector prime persona! I hope the deaths of the archaeological team in Egypt means we'll get Raoul Bushman in the show because he's vicious! Marc was one of those bodies but he was resurrected by Khonshu. I sure hope Bertrand Crawley, the golden mime, gets to talk at some point because his speeches are the most grandiloquent things ever! I sure hope we get the third persona of Jake Lockley before the show is done. If Moon Knight is Marvel's Batman and Steven Grant, in the comics, is Bruce Wayne, then Jake Lockley is 'Matches' Malone, Bruce Wayne's undercover street disguise!
This show makes us feel a lot of different emotions, that’s what makes this show great. I’m enjoying the happiness this show is bringing you. Your expression throughout the show brings a smile. Thx😃
Loving this series so far. I really think it's amazing how the Disney+ Marvel shows have all felt so different. Heard some people say that all superhero stuff is the same but I think these shows really prove that wrong. Ps: been watching your channel for maybe a week or so now, love your reactions!
Yeah they definitely changed some minor stuff, for instance in the comics Steven was a billionaire businessman & the suit is actually part of another identity, Mr. Knight, who is a detective consultant on crime scenes. Yes originally Marc Spector is the main identity and it makes sense that he has a military bunker with bed and everything because Marc was a marine before becoming a mercenary.
That series is giving me so much 90's classic action-adventures-superheroes-anime movies vibes. It's like a crossover of The Mummy, Blade, Darkman, and Perfect Blue. - The Mummy trilogy is a great B-movie blockbuster saga of the 90's, that launched Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz careers, especially the first 2, you should totally watch it, I'm sure you'd love them, - Blade is the very first ever MCU movie (from 1998, so a decade before the MCU even officially existed with Iron Man), with Wesley Snipes, a superstar in the 90's, and it's much darker, gorier and R-rated than anything the MCU has done in recent years. The atmosphere of the trilogy is fantastic (mainly the first 2, and especially the 2, which was directed by Guillermo del Toro, the best of the franchise, with the 3rd being a bit of a letdown, even though it did introduced us to Ryan Reynolds in his very early career). The MCU is actually gonna do a reboot of the character, with Mahershala Ali, who we've heard the voice in the post credit scene of the Eternals, so that it can properly introduces Blade into the current MCU. Looking forward for this one. - Darkman is the first Sam Raimi superhero movie, (from 1990, so 10 full years before he made Spiderman), and also one of Liam Neesons's first movies. It's pretty dark and you can see Raimi's still a horror movie's director at that point and brought that vibe to this movie. It has a fantastic atmosphere and all of Raimi's cinematic tricks are in full display here, to the point that a lot of fans call this movie his practice Superhero movie before Spiderman. It became quite a cult classic - And Perfect Blue (1997) is a cult anime movie from the late Satoshi Kon, a legendary anime director, about a japanese idol girl who's having dissociative personalities disorder (like in Moon Knight), with some shots in Moon knight that are directly referencing it (all the dialogues between different personalities through mirrors and reflections, and the shot of the Jackal's reflection in the windows during the chase scene on the rooftop look like they are all directly inspired from Perfect Blue). Also a cult classic that you definitely should discover !
6:33 interesting detail - the idea that Ammut (well, the version of Ammut in this series anyhow) has an (u)shabti points to the idea that Ammut has an avatar - since that’s basically what a shabti is supposed to be for (ie. a body doing it’s master’s will). Steven also mentions his wife’s knowledge of “uniliteral” signs - the most common type of hieroglyph, making a single phonetic sound. Somebody is really doing their research for this show!
Love how Oscar Isaac actually used English slang. Problem is you can tell he’s not actually English cos they don’t say wagwan after punching something. You can tell he googled it cos it basically means what’s going on but it’s more of a hello. Wrong context for that particular use of English language but it shows how much research was put into this role which is incredible
Khonshu - god of extortion, apparently. Kind of giving Marc a no-win option, either keep being Moon Knight, or Layla becomes his next Moon Knight. Kind of a dick move, but Marc is probably the best Avatar he's had.
For the invisible fight, I feel like this was an artistic decision made out of a budget necessity Producers : We don't have the budget to make the whole Jackal fight. Directors : Then don't.
Very solid second episode! Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke are killing it. May Calamaway as Layla is great. I freaking LOVE Steven Grant so much. That brief moment with Mr. Knight is so cool. I need more with him. That "argument" between Marc and Steven was heartbreaking. Can't wait for next week's episode.
When it comes to Marc and him being a “corpse”, you were on somewhat of the right track. I won’t spoil it outright incase they show it in the series (which they likely will) but all I’ll say is that Marc and Khonshu have heavy ties because of a specific event that happens in Egypt and corpses being involved. But yeah as if there was any doubt, I’m pretty confident in saying this episode showed Marc is the original host just like in the comics. There’s just a lot of evidence pointing to that being the case
I love how Steven I’m his suit is just acting like DeadPool lol so funny and moon knight seems to have lots of different powers maybe the convo between Arthur & Steven was good & Konshu wanting the wife as his next vessel ? Interesting
After this episode, I want Marvel to make a straight horror film. No moments of levity to break tension. Just a constantly building sense of dread. Maybe Blade will scratch that itch.
I'm looking forward to this one ! I remember very well the first 2 Blade from the 90's and they were badass ! I've got great memories of them. (Haven't seen the 3rd one though, as it came way later and didn't have much of good reviews, even though it did introduce a younger Ryan Reynolds in the making).
Maaaggyyy, I am so stoked about this show. I am so onboard for this! These Egyptian gods and stuff is so awesome, can't wait for more! Loved the reactions as always cute girl...now say Jackal for me hehe ❤
One of the things I enjoy most about Marvel is when they introduce us to a character most people are unfamiliar with. I know absolutely nothing about Moon Knight, and that makes a series like this much more fun and exciting, not knowing what the character or the series has in store. Magy, although I'm sure you get tons of recommendations, if you want to watch a series that will blow you away, check out The Boys. It's a superhero show with an amazing twist, and I'm sure (based on other things you've watched) that it's right down your alley.
I love your reaction, accent and those thin and smily lips. Can’t get enough of the show itself and your reactions to it. Keep up your great work. You earned a new sub today!
The only characters in Marvel with more personalities are Bruce Banner and David Haller. Between the three of them they could fill a hockey arena, mostly David, he had thousands of personalities each with their own unique mutant power.
is it just me or does Steven scream "WAGWAN!" after knocking the jackal out (kinda). I just finished top boy new season so I may just be hearing things.
This series has me intrigued! I've read that he had dissociative identity disorder which is quite interesting. I don't trust Arthur, and I'm starting to doubt Khongshu; one of them is in the wrong. Magy, make a poll for your patrons to have you react to the Bourne films. You won't be disappointed.
Much better episode. resurrecting a god to "stop" crime before it happens is a storyline very similar to the film Minority Report. "Summon the soup" 😂. great reaction Magy 😃
I really liked this episode. Episode 1 felt like watching a nervous high schooler read aloud from a book. For example, the restaurant scene where he finds out he is two days late for his date. He says no like he has just been asked if Pepsi was okay. This episode was like they hired an entirely different actor, then digitally put Oscar's face on him. It was so much better.
Magy!!! I highly recommend the movie "Interstellar (2014)" it is perhaps one of the best sci-fi movie out there. Actually Interstellar is true in a sense that it shows the nature and extraordinary beauty of the universe we live in. From black holes to time travel! It's an incredible movie that's why I highly recommend it! With an impeccable cast starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and more! I hope you could let us see your reaction to this movie, Thank you!😊
And let's not forget the amazing score of Hans Zimmer, that completely surpassed himself with this movie, and transcended it. Now with Dune, I swear, each time you give this man a movie about space to score, he's breaking the boundaries of music as humanity knows it !
No one can see the jackal, except Marc, and, by proxy, Steven 😰🤔. Unfortunately, to the rest of the world, he looks drunk/crazy 😓.
