When I first got this LP, thought it was crap, especially after all the experiences I had with the MAJESTIC Clash... Listening to it, 35 years later, I think it was just too far ahead! LOVE it finally! Always admired Mick anyways!
I had a similar experience, someone left a cassette tape over after a night of partying. I thought that they were weird, I was stuck in my old way of thinking. BAD totally grew on me and I began to love them
I can identify the three main dialog samples in this. "Sit tight and listen keenly..." = Prince Buster from "The Harder They Come". "...possibility of another gang war"= New commentator from "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight". "The white man ain't left me nothin'..." = Lawrence Fishburne from "The Cotton Club".
Like The Clash this band rarely had any clunkers. Almost all their output was great. One of the few bands I pull out once every two years and binge on their entire catalog.
Mick Jones sassed Sid Vicious. TO HIS FACE. And he had a good reason to do it (Sid trivialized the Holocaust, and Mick, being half-Jewish, knows exactly what's wrong with that). That's what a badass this dude is.
These guys were out of the box (beat, right? agggh, sorry hard to resist!!) and it would have been nice if they could have gotten along and stayed together for more than 3 or 4 albums! Long live B.A.D!!! And they must have set the record for the most Clint Eastwood samples! Very nice...

You can tell Mick was really into production, but, not into selling out. He just wanted to do great sounding music, that was more polished.
