Since I live in Texas I can't help but wonder how similar surf fishing is over here compared to where you are? I love watching your videos. I have never fished from the beach but now feel like I could probably do well. Keep it coming. Your enthusiasm is contagious! The real deal IMHO.
It's completely different. They have deep water relatively close but here in Texas you can go 1000 yards and only be in 30 feet of water. :/
Just incredible video...never caught a jack but really enjoyed watching this one being landed by a true pro!! Anyone who watches this video will certainly benefit!
Great fish! Glad our Roosta Poppers can be of service!!
Always get some cool eats on your poppers!
Glad your back at it. I took my skiff to Emerald Isle NC today for the first time and I fished with the crab and squid fish bites and we SLAYED them. So thank you for all your advice and tips.
Fantastic video! I’ve never fished with a popper in the surf. Only Jacks like this I’ve caught we’re trolling offshore. Learned a lot from this video and others. Thanks Matt!
Thanks for all the top water tips, just went on Vaca to Dauphin island and the trout smoked the top water almost every morning. It was amazing! Best luck I’ve ever had off the beach!
The Australian company'Halco' has been making poppers for a long time. In fact , all their lures are good , and well priced. I caught a 50 kg yellowfin tunA on their 135mm model rooster popper last year.
Terrific fish! Great video! Also buying 3 of those rooster poppers. Appreciate the respect you always show these beautiful fish.
Men.. that was awesome, he is the mother of jacks.. very powerful fish.. I'm from PR and they are abundant, always a great fighter..
This is by far the best video i have seen in a long time but you should def make sure to show more view on ur fight man well done!!!!
Matt...
That was awesome...
Your exuberance was transmitted through your Video!
There Is no experience like catching a LARGE FISH...Great Jack!
We experienced your enjoyment of that Catch!
Continued Success!
I love it when our guy wins....feels like I'm there! God Bless Beach Bums!
It was really cool meeting you today! Maybe the fishing will pick up next week!
That was a magnificent fish. Well done and the fisherman's block is over! (Although I was 99% convinced that was a shark pre-landing.)
There are a lot of beautiful fish in this lake, your fishing was very good, congratulations fisherman.👍🎣😉😎
pretty nice lake man, he caught like a 30 lb largey🤯
Awesome fish! Love the topwater action. Thanks for the great content Matt, you rock.
Jacks are amazing so much speed and power. It amazes me.
Any fish from the surface 1st thing in the morning is great. But a Jack puts the cream on that cake!
Dude you worked that Jack, great job landing that beast. Love using Popper's.
Oh yes ! What a catch, top water and a " P B " ! This makes up for the lost days fer sure. I used Fish Bites for the first time today. Great ! Caught some real nice Croakers.Shrimp flavor worked just fine. My best to you and yer family, stay safe and Bummy. Tom Daytona Beach, FL. 12,July 2020 .
Ur so much fun to watch, I had to subscribe....cant wait till my husband takes me saltwater fishing....This is 1 lady that loves fishing as much as shopping...🖐🏽🖐🏽😀😀😀Please what type reel , rod, test lines ur using...
Smokin that drag !
Nice Jack ! I caught my PB steelhead last Sunday 16 lbs steelhead in Lake Michigan. Very acrobatic! You rock!
Great release on that Jack.lts good when you make the effort so that majestic fish lives another day.
Best feeling when ya reel sings to ya 👍
Way to stay with it. You should make a road trip to Hatteras for fall drum. Nothing like it.
As always, another awesome video. Keep cracking them out man. Love em!
..good one, you've got me sitting here going through my tackle box, remembering fishing trips from days gone bye,..lol..have a great one and keep safe...
Lm0
Awesomeness, glad to see you take pride in your gear..
I haven't had a bite on the popper on the beach in my last three trips. Fishing over in Jax
Wow....good work brother...and the results are satysfying...really happy👍👍👍
love those hour jacks.. nice
I’ve only caught one and it was about half the size of that one you caught and it was the most challenging exhaustive awesome fish I’ve ever caught
Do jacks run the beach in spring? I'll be down for the first time April 2-9 2021.
I plan to kayak fish and surf fish
Awesome my man. First jack I ever caught weighed about a pound but I thought I had a ten pound fish on
Congrats on your PB!!! Enjoyed the video.
Awsome video. Loved it. When u say 50poind liter. U actually tie mono to your braid??? Can you show us??
uni to uni
Talking about GoPro, which model do you prefer?
WOW, great catch man. Loved hearing that reel scream.
I've never seen you keep a Jack, are they not good to eat?
Thank you for sharing. 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Nice Jack....! Maaaan what a confidence builder for top water poppers.... 2 questions: this answer can vary, but how long a drive is it from your house to where you park, and how much longer to get to the beach.(the walk). secondly, again this can vary, How much time do you spend editing a 20-25 minute video. Love watching your content....!
Gotta love those Jacks!
I j saw ur four runner at j&m tackle. I couldn’t find u I was trying to get help on what to get for pompano this time a year
Great vid just got back from the beach caught lots of permit and a couple pillchards and a couple whieting with only a rod and shrimp hahah
Hmmmm, permit? Sounds fishy to me
Yep
Man what a nice jack!
Hi Matt - appreciate what you do!
Want to let you know the link to your beach cart on Amazon isn't available for purchase.
hey dude what length rod , lure weight and action type rod are you using ?looks like a St Croix rod ?
Great video!!! Explain to me how you identify the RIP please.
I'm trying to learn to read the beach a little better
I’m heading to Oak Island NC on Saturday. I hope to do some surf fishing.
Another great video, Bum!! Leaving Colorado for 8 days of fishing in Pensacola on Sunday! Your flounder gigging video inspired us....I may have missed it but can you tell me if that was an incoming or outgoing tide?
Awesome catch!
What reel do you use? Looks like it works very nice.
Regards from Sweden
That was a good fight brother. My arm was tired from helping you land that beast. Great video.
Jack Crevalle, To eat or Not to eat? I have heard both that these are trash fish and some say that if prepared right, they are good eating. What is your opinion?
I have eaten a very small one that did not have the bloody red meat of the adults. When you are very hungry you can eat that small jack. There is a more offshore jack, the horse eye jack that looks very similar but has very little red meat and is OK to eat.
I met a guide once that fished the coast in Mexico. He claimed jack crevalles were very good when made into ceviche. I never had the nerve to try that.
They make good shark bait. I had a big one bitten off at 5th pass on the Tamualipas beach. Teethmarks were well over an inch apart and it's half moon shape indicated its head was huge.
Do you use a leader with top water plugs?
Hey buddy i dont have experience on surf fishing but me n my friend are planning to go one time,..what can u recommend to us what king of lure are better and also how much pounder the size of the line ur using ?ist a braided or mono filament?
Imagine if this guy did some fly fishing at the beach, would be an epic video
I can't possibly think of anything worse than someone taking a fly rod to the surf to fish with. Wrong application entirely! You need to cast into the seabreeze. Try that with a fly. You need to get out many yards to clear the first sand bar. How far do you cast that fly line? Then you need to put a lot of drag brake on those Jack fish to slow them down. My first jack crevalle was about 25 lbs and I caught it on a Gulf Coast surf pier. It took all but the bottom layer of 200 yards of first gen 30 lb mono until I turned it. And my thumb was on the side of the spool to add drag.
@@larrytischler570 preach on!!
Fantom I agree he should do a fly fishing the surf video I think it would be an awesome watch. And I think it would be even more fun to make for Matt. Larry you need to do some research on fly fishing gear. Please go do some before you say an idea like fly fishing the surf would be a horrible idea, after all people catch selfish and Marlins on fly rods, just go check the igfa record books. Its just a matter of finding the right gear to do so.
Larry Tischler I have.... and I do surf fish with a fly rod
@@fantomphoenix6170 you dont do it in S Texas
Thought about a scale and a waterproof logbook for moments like that?
That was amazing,really nice catch😁
What’s the main benefit for using spinning reel setup? I really like using my bait caster, just wondering if it’s a mistake to use one out there on the beach.
Sand can get in the level wind and ruin it. As long as you keep sand out of the levelwind you should be good.
What leader to braid knot do you use?
No land fish compared. Try lake Michigan salmon. Nice fish though.
Besides it's always fun when the fish are biting.
What knot do you prefer for your top water lures?
Good job lil brother
Hay Matt, loved watching you get stoked about your PB!! Nice jack. Stay safe 🇺🇸✌️
Skunk off!!!! Well done!
Awesome video man great catch sure that was a fun fight
Are jacks good to eat?
Nice Jack Matthew!! I'll be down next month to give the popper a try.
Would Topwater work out on Socal Beaches Excuse stupid question. Great 📹 🎥
Man I wanna fish with you! You’re just an all around awesome guy!
Wicked catch dude! Good job.
There is King Macks out there past 2nd sandbar. I know there is, been catching them for 40 years.
awesome Jack, loved the battle.
Congratulations good program.
You are a good man, letting that beautiful fish go !! ;-))
Just bought three of those poppers after watching this. I'm headed down there from the midwest tomorrow hoping for some similar results.
Lucky you! We usually fish Destin Jetty every year, stay at Jetty East Condos! No go this year.... have a great time.... try fresh dead shrimp on carolina rigs....all natural.... eat the shrimp ya dont use for bait!
I’ll definitely give it a shot, this is the first year I’m able to have multiple poles out so I’m gonna try a ton of variations!
Go all natural.., let the fish swim with it..,, Bama is good... but the bait rigs suck.,. Lost so many fish on it.., the weight doesn't let the fish run, go carolina rig, he's a guide... so it's numbers of fish.. throw a small silver Kastmaster.., it will catch lots of varieties...l good times
@@henrygarrison1613 I used a silver kastmaster of various sizes for 7 days straight last week. Caught one ladyfish and one small pompano. Fishing the surf is brutal right now.
@@henrygarrison1613 he uses that rig because of the current and tides. Tough to set up a Carolina rig with 2 to 3 ounce weights. Having said that the Carolina rig is my go to so if you can pull it off from the surf, I would agree.
Beautiful fish beach bum!!! Incredible
That's alot of fun watching you catchin the big fish like that. How big do them thangs get?
Be nice to know what fishing rod and reel you have in each video
Beautiful fishing
No skunk baby!!! YEAH! Finally!
Awesome fish!!!
What's your average cast dustance on that popper ? I'm just trying to learn how far I need to cast , I'll appreciated any input.
hi
please Where can I get popper for fishing 105 Like the one you used to start with the video
thank you
Long time 1st time. Would love to see you do a video for the traveling surf angler. Alot of folk only get down 1 or 2 times a year with a limited bag. Would enjoy seeing a video on a 1 rod simple setup and say your 5 must have baits for a trip. Don't want to over pack or under pack but heading down in September for a week and putting together my tackel box. Also looking to try and get a rod and reel setup for under $100 that will allow topwater and drop rig fishing. Any ideas?
Thanks for watching and for good questions! Definitely some good topics to cover. I can imagine if you keep up with me and only come down once a year for a week it could be a bit overwhelming trying to be prepared for everything. Lol As far as a setup that would be good for both topwater and set rigs, that’s tough to say. Such different approaches. Topwater you want something light and easy to make multiple casts and work a bait whereas for set rigs you want something that can handle heavy lead and handle wind and waves. You can use an inshore setup for set rigs like a 7’ medium action rod with a 3k or 4K spinning reel, but you’ll be limited to use only on the calmer days and limited to fishing pretty close to the beach because you won’t have the distance.
Great job!!
I can never find a halco popper pink fluoro 105 in stock! Ugh
What is your rod and reel setup for this? Nice catch man.
Nvm just finished the video
what lure weight and rod are u using
Hey Bama , try a size 13 Rapala
Great fish bud keep grinding
What kind of fishing line do you use?
go to new jersey to fish for saltwater stripped bass and some big blues/bluefish
Awsome fish can't wait to get some action down there after cv 19 passes over so I can go to the beach to fish
Awesome fish young man !
Nice fish!
is that popper a 30 gram lure?
hi
Where is the exact address of this beach, because I will be attending it from Chicago, and is the car permitted to enter the beach?
thank you 🙏
He topically fishes near the end of Orange Beach, AL. And no, cars are not allowed on the beach anywhere in this area. We have very soft and and rather short beaches between the dunes and the surf.
Good luck when you get here, and stay safe.
