Nespresso Vertuo Plus - "Coffee Not Hot Enough!" Debunked

  • I measure the temperature of a wide range of different Vertuo Plus pods and firmly debunk the idea that it's not hot enough. Since immediate scalding occurs over 68 Degrees C, unless you have an asbestos mouth you will need to let it cool!
    Put the mug as close to the nozzle as you can for the hottest coffee!!

    Late to the party but found this video because...you guessed it...My Nespresso Vertuo coffee is very dissapointing temperature wise. Tried all your tricks already and have come to just expect warm coffee from this machine. You do not debunk anything here...just suggest tricks to avoid cooling. I, and apparently many, many more people actually enjoy hot coffee, not warm coffee. If I had known this beforehand I would never have bought it.

      Are your temps less than mine? If so, could be a faulty machine. But if you like coffee over 85 degrees I doubt the machine gets that hot.

      If you coffee is not hot it's a faulty machine. It should be too hot to drink out of the machine. If it's only warm, it's not working right. 75 degrees C will scald in seconds. Brew temps are nearer high 80s low 90s. It's worth calling Nespresso for a replacement machine.

      Totally agree, just got one for Xmas, no way it is hot enough. Brewed to drink immediately apparently, still not hot enough! Real world is a cold cup, and guess what people add milk sometimes, this gave me a poor warm cup of coffee. Sent it back, disappointed.

      @@daveamo6597 How do you normally get your coffee? Do you brew it yourself or buy it... just interested to know how hot it is and why it's that hot. To some extent temp is a matter of taste and what you can stand and also how hot the water needs to be to get the right flavour from the coffee. I've read varying views on how hot the water needs to be. A lot of coffee shops blow live steam into the milk and of course this will mean a double shot coffee ends up being diluted with a lot of sreaming hot milk. The Aerroccino frother gers the milk at the high end of warm but not scalding. I mostly drink my coffee black. I guess an americano is made with a double espresso and topped up with (boiling?) water. I dunno as I'm no barista I just press a button. Can you enlighten me?

    My personal opinion is that the coffee here in this machine in Canada is not hot enough.
    Because of this, I prefer to use my Keurig.

    While the coffee is great, it's just not hot enough. I make a cup and put it in a large cup while I make another cup to add to it. By the time I have both cups in my large cup it is not hot. I do the same thing with my keurig and it is pretty hot by the time I'm ready to go. The Nespresso coffee is better. The keurig stays hot longer. Now if they could get together... LoL. Could yi
      Our machine be faulty? Others have made the same comment so maybe it's a problem with some machines.... Seriously, mine will burn your mouth after pouring. The espressos, being a lower volume, do cool rapidly when put in a cold cup or glass, and some cups retain heat better. While it's inconvenient, pre-heating cups could help. Having recorded temperatures, I found that it's post-pour cooling not the machine that is the cause if your coffee being cooler than desired but of course I could only test one machine

      I would say the Nespresso tastes better because it's not so hot when brewed. Warming the mug definitely helps as well as having the spout as close to the mug as possible. It cools VERY rapidly as it passes through the air and a cool mug will seep more heat out. Of course, mug-warming adds to preparation time.

    This is interesting as I’ve just bought the Next and it’s on average 10C cooler than the Plus. I’ve been doing some testing today and the hottest coffee I got from my Next was 68.6 and the coolest was 58.5c. With pre warming the cups the temperature is increased a little by 2c but there is still on average a temperature difference of 8c-10c on the Plus vs Next.

      Everyone says the Keylurig is hotter. I would't say it's lukewarm in the nespresdo though. Not mine. 70C. I make it, I want to be able to drink it right away but 70 is too hot for me. I think the temperature thing, assuming your brewed at the same temp as mine, is targetting a particular customer. I've never like scalding-hot drinks. Some say 120 - 140f is optimal for drinking. Extraction should be hotter of course. It all comes down to personal preference but the Keurig would have me adding cold water or milk.

    • @richwhilecooper
      @richwhilecooper  ปีที่แล้ว

      As an aside I research lukewarm and the hottest lukewarm be is about 115° F (body temp + 15 degrees) or about 46° C. The COOLEST I measured the coffee was 65 °C I think so almost 20 degrees hotter than lukewarm, so at the least, the description of lukewarm is inaccurate (assuming your machine is brewing the same as mine.
      Of course whatever we call it, if you don't find it hot enough, that's all that really matters. Whether it's personal taste and/or a faulty machine, from your perspective, it's irrelevant. You just want hotter coffee.

    Yes it is hot enough or at least in the plus machine I recently purchased. But its not super hot like some that are probably over 200F/93C. But I don't turn coffee into milk so its just black. Do need to use the right type of cup for it to actually stay hot, unless you heat the cup up ahead of time. Drastic difference in a ceramic mug not warmed vs insulated glass type. Using 7.7oz pod temp stayed over over 150F/66C for over 5 minutes which is hot and hotter than I want to drink it. Way longer than that over 140F. So yet it gets hot enough but might want to use warm milk, if one uses a lot of it. Hottest I saw was about 80C in the cup and a few flashes of 92C coming out of the machine. Just doesn't retain heat nearly as well in a normal cup. But the temp isn't a problem for me at all because I have to cool it off or get a burned mouth. But some can drink coffee hot and think nothing of it.

  • @jrmint2
    @jrmint2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    this is a great comparison, however some caveats, measuring the the temp as the water is going into the coffee would be ideal, but difficult to assess. Some factors that will affect the outcomes of the temperature o fcoffee coming out would be the fact that water going through the coffee grounds would already drop the temperature and the amount of coffee in the pod, as well as the length of the brew would also affect the out coming temperature. but it is interesting to see this outcome as you were able to measure it as useful to confirm that the coffee coming out of the machine isn't cold and only varies by a few degrees. pre-warming the cups and milk would go a long way to ensure a hot cup of coffee.

My mom and sister have a Keurig machine and their coffee poured into a room temperature cool mug is nice and hot. Literally the water coming out of the Nespresso machine is not as hot as Keurig or Tassimo’s machines. I wish Nespresso would fix this. The fact that there is a videos which is created to support nespresso claim that coffee is hot enough says a lot. It means the coffee machine does not create hot coffee and nespresso is using this influencer method to convince all. Sure coffee brewing at lower temperature might bring out the flavor which nespresso claims and one can understand their argument, but they have to cater to what many users need is hot coffee. My espresso/lungo in the Citiz (original style) gets nowhere near that hot. Even after passing 3-4 times with water only, the max temp I get coming out is 68. The first pass temp is 57. I have descaled my machine as directed, and it's always this cold. Conversely, my Keurig always comes out at 82-83. If you ever have the chance to drink the Nespresso from a colder-brewing machine, you'll see that the flavor is lacking. How do I know? Because, when I heat the water to 80 degrees, then put it in my Nespresso tank - the resulting espresso or lungo is EXPONENTIALLY better.
