    You know, Barry, I haven't seen such a concise, organized, and well thought out instructional video explained in the simplest terms for all to understand, since, well, the last instructional video you posted! Well done doesn't begin to cover your approach, and this is why when people ask me these questions, I refer them to your videos. You are making things easier on me without even knowing it! So a grateful thank you is in order here. Up here in Washington, we have to use hooks that size cuz the fish run big up here 🤥. Ok, maybe not that big. You certainly have your PhD in steelhead fishing now. I just tell people, "He's deadly." In my entire life, and I started fishing for steelhead with arrowheads and hand thrown spears before rods and reels were invented, never have I seen an angler that is more organized in every facet of steelhead fishing. I literally get better just by watching your videos. Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us! Now all that is left for me to do is install the GPS Tracker on your truck, so I can mysteriously show up at your favorite spots! I have a feeling, though, that you'd find it and stick it on the trailer of a southbound semi-truck and I'd end up in Hollywood or somesuch. Tight lines, and good fishing!

      Best Rage Fishing Comment to date. Thank you as always for taking the time to rate my work. I’m glad they are helpful, they do take a lot of work in prep yet I’m never 100% satisfied. I quickly learned that tying steelhead knots with cord the size of 500# test wasn’t going to be perfect. I’m human for one and wasn’t born to sit in an empty room talking to a camera. Steelhead with arrowheads huh? And I’d love to see the steelhead that takes a 20/0 to land. 😆

    Ya williamcooke hit the nail on the head! Excellent instructional video for sure! You have helped me bigtime also with the knowledge you share, appreciated greatly! Ive probably watched the bead instructional video 8 times! The favorite 5 rods 12 times! Go Loomis! Thanks Barry!

      Thanks Gary! Thanks for taking the time to let me know. I need to do an updated favorite rods video. There is place for all of my Loomis rods, but the 1145 needs to bump up to the top 5 list. 😉

      Ya that would be awesome! Glad I found a 1145 after watching your videos. Found only 1 in Utah , ordered it! I knew you liked it, but didn't realize it was top 5! I used to be bigtime into bass fishing and dad custom ordered me for xmas one year (1995ish?) A 7 foot gl3 medium heavy with my name custom engraved on it! Thought you'd get a kick out of that! Nice chatting Barry, thanks!

      @ that’s cool, a custom GL3! I have a bunch of Loomis bass rods, incredible sensitivity. The only thing I’m missing is a bass boat. 😁
      I’m glad you found an 1145 before they were gone. Awesome rod. I now have the 1143 GCX which has the same specs, so they changed the numbering system. I’ll be doing a first impressions video soon!

      @@RAGEFISHING look forward to the gcx video/review! I thought they changed the numbering system also, but wasn't sure. The first steelhead rod i bought from them (right before I found your channel) was an e6x 1082 light spinning,, it was a risky purchase in a way for me for what I was trying to accomplish. The safer bet probably would've been the medium light above it, fast action. I went ahead and chanced the light, it was a moderate fast. It was EXACTLY what I wanted, maybe better??lol. During those few months I started ripping the summers with it, and found your channel. I at the time (only bought the first one because of dad, didn't research reviews or anything, and quite honestly I figured there popularity probably declined over the years?),, I found your channel!!lol, the first video I watched was your favorite 5 rods, I got such a kick out of it, and I thought man, what if I accidentally break that 1082 e6x? So I ordered a 1143 e6x. A few weeks later I accidentally broke the 1082 casting after landing a rough battle with a 6lb female. Thats when I went to woodland and mentioned you and dad to them. It ended up being my fault (long story) and I got the expedited warranty replacement,,, but Andrew told me I will replace it with the comparable model gcx. It is a fast action, "1081" medium light. It definitely has more backbone than the 1082 e6x,,,, so I thought something changed! I got such a kick out of your loomis/shimano talk,,, it was my dads favorite, your favorite, I thought thats what I'm gonna do! I like the new gcx 1081 alot,,, its my summer spinner rod for the local small river I bank fish and hike. Happy holidays to you and your family!

      @ that’s good to know! Yeah, I realized really quick that 1 is now medium light, 0 is light and I think 00 is Ultralight, since my GCX lite trout rod is an ultralight model 9000, 7’6”. 2 is medium, 3 medium heavy and 4 is heavy. I have 2 E6X 9 footers, you’ll see the 1083, medium light, in action on one of my upcoming videos in the snow. The other 9’ rod is the medium 1084, I bought thinking it would be perfect for bead fishing in tight quarters. I haven’t even put a reel on it. 😁 I want to add one more GCX, so we’ll see how the 1143 fishes and then I’ll figure another model to add to it, maybe the 1141. Take care and Merry Christmas! 🎄

    My knots, Braid to any terminal tackle gets a polomar knot. Line line gets uni/uni. Eggs loop for anything needing bait or yarn, and improved clinch for spinners/spoons or any mono/floro to swivels or whatever.

      Can’t go wrong with a good ol’ Palomar knot for braid. I use that for tying heavy braid to top water frogs for bass fishing. I had some double unis break off causing me to lose my entire bead rigs on several occasions. The way the Alberto cinches down on the mono doesn’t cause the mono to get sliced. So I tested out several splice knots and the Alberto was the strongest with the line I use. It’s not to say that the uni doesn’t work. I do use the improved cinch for some fishing, like trout and smaller species, but I like that double loop the Trilene knot offers for steelhead. Thanks for the input Fish-on-Shawn! 🎣

    great video barry i personally use most of these same knots the improved uni, egg loop and the alberto knot definitely great knots the only other knot id suggest checking out is the orvis knot its super quick and easy to tie and incredibly strong its definitely became a confidence knot for me started using it for fly fishing cuz its so easy to save tippet when using the orvis knot but i have since started using it for my steelhead fishing as well and been incredibly impressed with it usually my leader breaks before the knot does

      I looked up the Orvis Knot, that’s a cool knot, I’ll try it out, not sure if I’d use it for steelhead. Are you using it for steelhead? I think it would be awesome for fly fishing for trout. Thanks for the tip!

      @RAGEFISHING yeah I use it for my spinners and my bead leaders to connect to the 3 way swivel mostly for steelhead fishing like I was saying usually the line breaks before the knot does it's incredibly strong for how small of a knot it is and I love it on a spinner cuz the tag end faces down

      @RAGEFISHING lol it's all good man no worries I just thought I'd throw that knot out there totally up to u if u wanna try it but I would never recommend something I didn't have full confidence in been fishing that knot for about 4 years now

    Thanks for the info. My go to knot is the polomar. I think a lot of times knots can be dependent on your confidence in them. The only knots I've had fail were ones I wasn't confident in.
    Why do you use ultragreen for one set up and Seaguar for the other?

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Nothing wrong with the Palomar! I use it for bass fishing applications. As for the Ultragreen Question; I use this line as a bumper for my bead rigs due to its strength and abrasion resistance. I do use the Seaguar for my bead leaders though. I generally use the Seaguar for my float and jig setups because I don’t use a bumper, so I tie the Seaguar directly to the braid. Fluorocarbon sinks better than mono and is nearly invisible underwater, so that’s why it’s connected to my jigs or beads.
