So glad we captured that fight with 2 cameras, from the beginning. Such an incredible scene. Braden’s old Hero 8 kept dying. This year he’ll get a camera update. 🎣
Those native bucks are something else. Such a beauty. You both had some epic battles on this trip. Great video. Love the teamwork. Looks like you got some beautiful days on this trip!
The strongest fish I’ve fought have been big native bucks. My largest fish was a 38” thick native buck, it gave me all kinds of problems including getting wrapped around a rock in which it fortunately swam back around. I was alone and it was before I was filming, so I don’t even have a picture, otherwise its replica would be on my office wall. Thank you for taking the time to comment, this was a beautiful day, it made for some excellent footage. One more Part to go, this Friday! 🎣
What a fantastic day for you guys! Those fish gave you all you wanted, and then some! You know, Barry, the more frays on a leader, the higher likelyhoid you'll hook a monster, so why didnt you leave that shredded leader on? It might have lasted 0.2 seconds upon hookset, after all! 😂
It was one of the best days of filming I’ve done for this channel and having Braden part of it, made it even better. That leader and Arctic Express is hanging over my desk with a few other leaders and baits that have caught some of my most memorable fish. I’m notorious for retying even when I probably didn’t need to, these steelhead are so hard to find, I want the highest confidence in landing them. You’re right, that 12# STS was getting close to the end of its ability to stay in one strand. 😁🎣
@@timmyrandall6603 Dave and I have been giving each other a hard time about that, sometimes when fighting fish you just lose your mind. He’s going old school with palming the spool, rather than tightening the drag on that old reel. I gave him a Shimano Vanford for his birthday, so it better be on that rod this season. 😁
@ thats awesome haha, I definitely get the sheer panic that sets in when you realize that you hooked a monster. Love your videos you’ve definitely taught me a thing or 2 in your videos!!
@ that’s the second largest steelhead I’ve filmed on this channel, the #1 fish was on Steelhead Road Trip 2022, another giant David hooked. So the big ones make you second guess yourself, maybe I’ll call it ‘Buck Fever!’ 😆 David told me to slack line that fish in Part 2 of this series 4 times before I actually did it, even though we know that’s worked before. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the interaction and feedback. 🎣
@ I saw you doing that. You’re a good man. I had nobody to mentor me with steelhead fishing I just had to drive to the river and start casting. Did plenty of cringey embarrassing stuff looking back. Hahahaha. I’m amped to get out there and start fishing this season.
@ I was lucky to have a dad that took me to the coastal steelhead rivers wearing blue jeans and sneakers, loosing okie drifter after okie drifter and never catching anything but a cold. 😁 But I wouldn’t change a thing.
Hey, it’s fishing! My dad and I have had some fun fishing adventures; from wilderness lakes, McKenzie trout-steelhead-chinook fishing, winter steelheading and eastern Oregon streams. He’s enjoying my new Hewescraft just doing some easy going trout trolling. It’s gone full circle. 😊
@@RAGEFISHING Isn't that something, the government can restrict you from eating fish you caught in the wild fair and square. I mean you even followed their rules by crushing the barb on your hook and using a single hook. Does anyone on here think the government is getting too big for they're bitches?
@ we’re always considering new gear, but these nets work for most fish. Like Dave said in the video, he may just start carrying a long handled net. I’ll let him pack it around. 😁
Man, you are way off base with that statement. Virtually no handle on the net, and fish far longer than the diameter of the net is make netting a big steelhead under ideal conditions challenging. I have 3.5 decades as a charterboat deckhand/Captain and River Guide from Alaska to Northern California, and I've landed 14 steelhead in excess of 20 pounds, all without a net, with 12 tailed myself while fighting the fish, so I feel like I'm qualified to judge your boast as a presumptuous flex, with no class. Clearly, if you call that "the worst net job you've ever seen," you haven't seen even a fraction of the ones I've seen in my 62 years on this planet. David could have lifted quicker, to the untrained eye, on Barry's last fish, but if you look at his center if gravity leaning out over deep water, it isn't as easy as it looks to some on the internet who dont factor into the equation fully all considerations before making a statement like yours. Since Barry is such a class act, he isn't speaking to you like this, as it isn't his nature. I've always tried to emulate that due to the great respect and admiration I have for him, not just as a fisherman, but as a husband, father, and a man, period. So I feel like I'm risking lowering his opinion of me by being less than respectful at all times while posting on his channel, but you need to be put in your place, and I'm the man for that job. Check yourself, and dismissed. Sorry, Barry, I couldn't hold my tongue.
Nice fish david, man that was a beauty! Good job keeping pressure on him and being patient! Great video Barry, thanks for sharing!

What a fight!!!
@@darnelltobar9726 no kidding! David seems to always find the big ones. 😄

Great video as always barry looking forward to the next one good call on making that change up
That’s the second time in this series that a changed bait had a first cast take! Sometimes that’s all you need. Thank you.
What a battle with that first fish! Nice work on the net, tough spot to do it.
It seems David always finds the monsters and I’m running up and down the bank trying to get it corralled. 😆
Nice work!!! You’re a good guy letting him have that water knowing it’s a fishy spot!!
No kidding, I hooked one in the spot David hooked the monster in the ‘Steelhead Lunatic’ video a couple years back. Such a perfect stretch of water.
Love that y section. Please please try to keep secret
My lips are sealed. I don’t post river names. There is great fishing all over the coast, but some places are just special. 🎣
Truly big steelhead are just different. As amazing as they are, I think I prefer fish in the 10lb range. 😂. That thing destroyed me.
It was a beast! Those first few glimpses in the shallows showed that thing’s size. You always seem to find the big ones. 🎣
Love your private access

Dude wouldn’t tighten his drag or take any advice holy smokes haha

Doesn't anyone eat fish anymore?
I do! Steelhead are great eating, this fish was wild, so had to be released.

Worst net man I’ve ever seen in my life fish was right there 6 times net the man’s fish
Maybe if I had a long handled net. These wading nets have a short handle, unless I took a swim, I risked just knocking it off.
Get one of the nets that have the extendable handle and carry it on ur backpack or something that’s a fish of a lifetime
