Looks like a sweet rod! It handled those bigger fish pretty well.

It did, I was surprised. My GL2 5 1/2 got tested by some bigger trout a few years back and I felt under-gunned.

You're going to love this rod. 🙂 Offers more presentation options in the trout tool kit.
My G. Loomis TSR 901 7'-6" fast action is very similar. I have been letting my 6'-6" rod/s handle the spoon and spinners while the TSR favors going a little deeper with mini-jigs and marabou jigs......... Split grip rods do make for a "cool" look.

I’m loving the new rod! And agree with its ability to throw small jigs in addition to the small lures. 🎣

Our GCX Lite rods are sweet! I use them mostly for crappie. As for the type of handle, it's called a split grip.

Great videos. Keep up the great work! Do you get a lot more casting distance with this rod over your TSR?

Thank you! I have the TSR 801 2S, which is the 6’8” Ultralight. It casts well, it’s featured in my Vanford 1000 review. However without some controlled casting testing it’s hard to say what casts better. I think some testing is in order. 😉

What oars are on your pontoon? Also looks like a nice new set up man cool to see a different type of content as well

Those oars came with my Colorado pontoon, so I’m guessing they are Classic Accessories brand.
I’m thrilled with the rod, I’m planning my backpacking adventure now. I think it will be awesome for small mountain lakes.

We call that grip a split grip. Also if someone wanted that rod and didn’t want to buy a vanford due to the price, check out the miravel.

Thanks Jacob, one of the Loomis guys posted that as well regarding the split grip, I added the term in the full East Lake video.
I’m a huge fan of the Vanford, I have them on most of my steelhead rods, but I plan to do a review of the Miravel. Even though slightly heavier, I know not many people want to spend $250 on a spinning reel and it would be a good choice for a bit over $100 bucks.
      Thanks for your input. 🎣

@@jacobzirkle9153 also, check out the Backcountry Trout Part 2 video, I hooked some monsters on this rod. Even though it’s rated Ultralight, it proved to have the backbone for bigger fish. It’s like a micro steelhead rod.
