I been trying to rewatch digimon lately in my mid 30s since I watched all 3 adventures on broadcast back in the day and then I found your retrospectives and man these are awesome. I can tell you're well read bringing up C.S. Lewis's writings and I didn't see those specific story telling uses that were incorporated into Digimon. I'll continue watching all of these retrospectives and will look forward to your future projects should you choose to do any.
In ep 21 it was around 12:00pm( early midday when the sun is out) when Tai came home the first time. In ep 31 it's around 6:30pm when the sky is orange and the sun is setting which is why the color was different. As for Matt looks, in season 2 we find out his grandad is french on his mom side of the family, and looking at Matt's dad who looks mostly caucasian but might have a parent who is half Japanese which is why he lives in Japan. But when you look at it ,most of the kids in Digimon are half Japanese. Like Thomas from season five who father Australian and Rika from season 3 who father is Japanese but clearly not her mother who is a blonde caucasian ,and Henry who is half Chinese and half Japanese.
Just found this series and plan on watching it all. Very good analysis. You've made me realize a lot of things I hadn't thought about Digimon. Agree on many, disagree on others. But this sort of in-depth analysis is definitely thought-provoking. Subscribed.
You the secret bit makes a bit more sense in two ways, 1 kids just don't think that logically. 2 until things start happening who would believe them. Probably the most important thing tho is realistically I imagine the kids and their partners would get locked up because governments are stupid like that. So really the secret bit works I think.
Just letting you know Rusty even if I disagree with some of the things in your retrospective, just know that I still like your videos overall because I can tell that you’re a true fan. Keep up the good work
I’ve never had an issue with younger characters occasionally being less than perfect in their reactions for a few reasons. I think it’s important to recognize that character development is not linear, and there will be setbacks, and it doesn’t diminish from the growth that they’ve made. Takeru having out of character moment tends to remind me that he really is just a young child that’s had way more than his fair share of adversity to this point. Love your analysis though
For a human, yes, this would be understandable. But the loyalties of Digimon are second to any independent action. Leaving Takeru should not have even been a thought capable of entering Patamon's mind, let alone act upon.
@@whattheegad This action would be conceivable to me if Patamon was an ordinary Patamon. The problem lies in the fact that these Digimon were specifically designed and created to be their partners, so the loyalty should be much more ingrained in their code.
While your video was good as always since you bring up many aspects of the anime which demonstrates how much research you put into your retrospective videos, I feel that you spent a bit too much time on your transitions between episodes, which should've been 3 to 5 seconds long in my opinion.
I originally conceived of them being like a short break in-between sections since this entire thing turned out to be very long. If I ever do transitions again, I'll be sure to trim them down.

Hiding you secret magic or otherworldly creator from your parents when you are kid is that one cliché that I guess will just never get old.

4:20 As for why the digital gate was only one way, it’s probably because it utilized a physical door, which, doesn’t exist in the real world
They revealed the 8th child identity in the ending song animation before the 8th child was mentioned in the show lol
I think the reason Takeru had a outburst like that which counteracted his growth was because he is stil 8 and stil has some growth to do
20:23 in the English dub that punk was Sora’s cousin
20:57 also I think that punk was partially flirting with Mimi and Sora
The whole 'Batman in my Basement' trope always felt so contrived to me. Dude, you have Batman in your basement! That's cool!
52:56 perhaps vandemon not killing the humans was because he could use them for energy as what helped his mega level

New subscriber! I’m honestly shocked you don’t have more subscribers. Your work is absolutely brilliant! I’ll definitely be sharing with friends
The 8th child just so happens to be taichis little sister kairi
I love how it's titled as an Adventure retrospective yet no 2 minutes pass without Tamers getting brought up.😂

2:24 honestly I don’t see a problem with the digital world having god like forces.
21:41 Lmaoooooo 😂 best part
By kill dont you mean banished to his dungeon in the digital world.
Is that what happened in the English dub?
@@whattheegad yeah that's what he says. Jesuotaku joked about it in his retrospective.

@@whattheegad do you still have your Tommy Oikawa video?

Pattamon is still a child digimon so it names sense for him to have a tantrum. It is called a character flaw dude.

Funny you should say that because December 5th is my birthday.

I think you nitpick too much over a few small potholes
