It should be noted that Pokemon came in at the best moment possible... it came out when anime was finally being taken around the world and the internet was slowly getting big.... It came out during a time when rumors could spread easily but not be easily disproved. It came out when the internet and media would spread information but things didn't go out of fashion as fast....
It is hilarious how Mew's inclusion was literally just "Hey, this mon exists. Let's put it into the data without approval". That's like if someone was in the development of Gen 5 reading the lore and just went "Oh cool, the enigmatic Original Dragon. Let's do that". Absolutely unreal that if it wasn't snuck in, we may have never even seen Mew in any media to this day, leaving it to be purely mentioned and nothing else. Heck, leaving alone the many, many things in the decades to come, the first movie and Snap more or less require Mew to show up for their high points, what would they look like if they still exist in this alternate timeline?
Fun Fact: In Ultraman Leo (S01/EP 34), the Capsule Kaiju was upgraded and was called Kaiju Ball aka Monster Ball.. sound familiar?! Poke-ball anyone? Hey Nintendo, you're 50yrs too late to patent an idea you originally took.
Fantastic video! I had a weird crossing of fandom when I saw the picture for Ken Sugimori, he’s wearing a shirt for one of my favorite Japanese wrestlers named Katsuyori Shibata. Loved the little surprise and loved the video, common Saiga W
Game Freak: "You can get Mew by...er...doing nothing. It doesn't exist!" Nintendo: "How do you know?" Game Freak: "Uh...trust me, my uncle works for Nintendo!"
I like your comment about playground rumors that "seemed fake" turning out to be true. It's easy to wonder how we fell for those rumors back then, but you hit the nail on the head -- it's because so many of them were actually true!
I've heard this story many times and it never sounds believable, I forgot who originally told it but the evidence just doesn't support it. Mew was the first Pokémon officially registered as a trademark a whopping *6* years before the game released in Japan, it was _that_ important so why would they end up in a position where they almost didn't include it? The Cinnabar mansion journals explicitly give exposition about Mew, and Mewtwo himself existing at all is the biggest indicator that naturally there was going to be a Mew(one). Moreover, from the programming point of view, you would NEVER randomly introduce untested data or code right before shipping the game just for kicks and giggles. Doing so means that there's a high possibility it could break something in the game and you have to thoroughly go over the code to check whether or not it did, it's just too much headache for something to do on a whim as they claim. So frankly, it's a story that's hard to buy. The only thing that could potentially suggest it was true is that Mew's original sprite in Red/Green was so bad it looked practically unfinished, as if not meant to be ever seen by anyone, but that alone is not sufficient to prove anything considering how janky many Pokémon sprites were in those early versions of the game.
The video misses out a lot context. Mew wasn't made on a whim by Gamefreak. They were planning this the entire time. There was this old arcade game (can't remember what one, it was a Galaga style game though) that they used to play that people rumored about there being a sprite for an American fighter jet in the game files. Tajiri wanted to recreate that those kinds of playground rumors with Pokemon. In the end, after the debug tools were removed they had barely enough for a small size Pokemon. They based the sprite off of Mewtwo, but smaller, no time to figure out base stats so they made them all the same, no time to figure out what TM's or HM's to use, so just use them all.
Looking forward to your TH-cam career! I basically watch YT like it's cable TV so if you post your usual One Peice content and any games you are playing atm that would be really cool
I would love to see an in depth video talking about your top 10 favorite Devil Fruits or a top 10 Devil fruit abilities you would like to see introduced in the manga whether it be non canon ones from movies and games or just your own ideas.
Great video! Well spoken, structured, and edited! Hope to see more long form content like this from you in the future! I could listen to you talk about literally anything! Best of luck on your TH-cam long form content creation journey, it can be a uphill battle a lot of the time. But always remember that any video you are passionate about making, is well worth making despite the amount of views it gets. Can’t wait to see everything you make in the future!!
Good video bro, but one thing that annoys me to no end. You confused Satoshi Tajiri with Tsunekazu Ishihara (who is pictured in the video). I hope that was just an honest mistake. I'll definitely check out more of your videos.
Saiga!!!! It’s been a while, and it’s good to see you doing long form content, I’ve been waiting for this, and after this video I’m even more sure, you have a voice as cozy and soothing as wendigoon, I’m extremely excited for more long form content in the future
One of my favorite video game stories lol. I was just telling my bestie about the story of Mew just last week. The success of game freak honestly reminds me of the success of Disney. From purchasing swamp land nobody wanted compared to a dying console.
it is a leftover, some of the oldest screenshots and info of the game show an additional planned city and different tile sets then the final version of course it was only confirmed due to the leaks that happened a bit ago. Weather they kept the truck in the SS Anne map with the truck on purpose or not is unknown, it could have been they didnt have time to update the map to fit the changes in the game, or it could be they kept it there as an easter egg to see if people could find it so rumors like the mew truck would spread.
More pokemon content would be very cool, like covering the lore of the pokemon from the manga! Also love the tiktok, hope you start posting more on here 🙏🏼🙏🏼
This video weather intentional or not has a lot of misinformation. Its not really confirmed that people were easily glitching Mew into their games in the 1990s, Red and Green had a lot more bugs then the International Red and Blue which were based off the later Blue version, So it may have been possible but nothing can be confirmed. The glitch you show and talk about wasnt discovered till much later, infact the early 2010s I believe. Mew is mentioned in the lore of the game (Cinnabar Island in the Pokemon Mansion, the books) and of course Pokemon 150, Mewtwo being oddly named Mew Two but yet there was never a Mew in the game, obviously starting Myths and Rumors. Hence the term Mythical Pokemon.
The first reported instance of the Mew glitch was 2002, so well after the game became popular, but still in "the early years." likewise, the trigger for it isn't easy to do by accident, but it's also not _so_ out there that it's impossible to do by accident. The bigger thing is Morimoto's story conflicts with the actual size of the game, which is 373 kb in a 512 kb cartridge IIRC.
Great vid! You keep using Ishihara’s pic when you mention Tajiri though. Ishihara is the president of the Pokemon company, Satoshi Tajiri is the creator 😊
Dude you don't know who you're talking about because every time you mentioned Mr. Tajery I know i misspelled the name but you put a picture of Mr.Masuta
Why would Nintendo even care if a secrete monster was put in at the last min or not. What they care about are the sales. They don't care if someone snuck in something at the last min. Even if a secrete monster was put in the game, there are like 100 pokemon in the game right? How would you even know if an extra on was put in or not. Like who would even care. And so Mu was a secret monster in the game, what glitch would cause a non playable monster to be in the game? If they didn't program him to be officially in the game, then how was Mu in the game?
It should be noted that Pokemon came in at the best moment possible... it came out when anime was finally being taken around the world and the internet was slowly getting big....
It came out during a time when rumors could spread easily but not be easily disproved. It came out when the internet and media would spread information but things didn't go out of fashion as fast....
Yeah. The movie Akira was like a gunshot. DBZ tore the door off its hinges. And Pokemon? Pokemon broke open the dam.

Love to see you on TH-cam, and the script/editing fits do well into the TH-cam space. Great video man

They literally call them Monster Balls in Japan. "Pokeball" is a localization thing.
That pic is not from Tajiri, but Tsunekazu Ishihara, Pokémon Co. CEO.
This was somehow so cozy to watch
Somehow? nostalgia trivia isn't that foreign of a concept
Looking forward to the next video! So excited to see what other longform content you make

Is that you, TikToker?
What's up professor
1:12 wrong photo. That’s Tsunekazu Ishihara, not Satoshi Tajiri. Nice vid tho
I like your comment about playground rumors that "seemed fake" turning out to be true. It's easy to wonder how we fell for those rumors back then, but you hit the nail on the head -- it's because so many of them were actually true!
I'm excited to see more longform content. This was a really cool video, nostalgic and gave my new info.
Loving the long form video from ya
Saiga! Love all the content and can’t wait for more to come ✌️
That's Tsunekazu Ishihara at 1:12 not Tajiri.

Pokemon red and blue were full of glitches, Pokemon red and green was even worse.

Now for the digimon video essay

There's some mystique with Mew, my favorite Pokemon. Mew really is one of the quentissential icons of the Pokemon series.
I would love you to do a video on in-depth Pokémon lore, I think U would be an amazing story teller
Great video, keep it going please
Good video bro, but one thing that annoys me to no end. You confused Satoshi Tajiri with Tsunekazu Ishihara (who is pictured in the video). I hope that was just an honest mistake. I'll definitely check out more of your videos.
It was a mistake 😅 I wasn't familiar with his face so I got tricked by the Google image results
1:12 That's not Satoshi Tajiri.
Hell yeah saiga, awesome vid. You should do some Pokémon Lets Plays on here!

Let’s go Saiga 🔥🔥🔥
The OG games were sleeper hits... which is kind of amazing to think about.
... but why is there a truck near ss Anne? It's such an interesting mystery to put that there.

why does this photo of two gameboys connected with a link cable and with both game cartridges sticking out exist?
Watching to get your watch hours up
Dude you don't know who you're talking about because every time you mentioned Mr. Tajery I know i misspelled the name but you put a picture of Mr.Masuta
is that why mewtwo is numbered before mew
Yes. Mew wasn't an officially recognized Pokemon entry at the time.
I seem to remember Green and Blue reversed…?
This is kinda insane
here from the other app hope this channel gets crazy views
Love your content and im gonna stsy tuned. However, Small note, please make your vocals slightly louder moving forward.
Thank you for the feedback! Will do 😁
LONG FORM COMMON SAIGA W LETS GOOO

Here from TikTok my boy
WRONG games suck MEGA BALLS now
Hay sega, didn't you say in one of your tiktok that you're writing a light novel . What happened to that? I was just wondering
Hey here from tiktok hope you will do one piece reviews here too!
Thoroughly enjoyed this Saiga! The hype when you could get a legit Mew was truly crazy!!!
🔥🔥🔥
hey i love your voice , please improve on mic quality please , keep growing
Your made for video analysis saiga ngl
Or like this format not TikTok
No Sonicchu?
Can't get surf with out getting cut first with out cheating
You have to trade for a pokemon that knows cut and avoid getting the HM. If you get HM01, the ship will leave and close the zone.
@@JohnDoe11VII Yep that was the only way why did I think trading pokemon with HMs was not allowed.
Gotta post a comment for the algorithm boost.
Love the video; the only criticism I can give is the light in it is reflecting off your forehead and kind of washing you out.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm considering upgrading the light and camera because I'm not exactly happy with either
W vid
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing :)
