Hey I watched it already twice ;) but what I noticed that actually 15mm and 1080p mode is really great for vloging (apart from huge file sizes) and the 1080p footage seriously can compete with a quality 4k cameras from other brands. This is really exceptional quality for such a tiny and quite old by all means and standards - camera. Guys from Magic Lantern Team have done some true miracles to Canon cameras.
I have to say, raw video makes a total difference, thanks zeek, i bought a eos m, and im amazed about its quality, and buddy, those images could be in any movie out there, so beautiful and the color grade its perfect!!! Congrats!
@@heyyall1790 actually, the record time for me was reduced to 10 seconds, i had to re install magic lantern, and i didnt setup all again, but if you see the zeek videos, he shows you the right set up!
Excellent video Zeek, love the bold colours and clever editing, Canon is so good with colours even with the kit lens, your panning is so smooth with hardly any camera shake and good stabilization, love the editing and music choice, really good tutorial for this great little camera, oh !! by the way I got my battery holder for the EOS M from Poland, so pleased with it, one of my best upgrades ever for the EOS M, this camera has now reached it's all time peak for video with so many videos on TH-cam taken with the EOS M with amazing results, thanks for your contribution

Simply awesome & tiny! I believe development has stopped for the M50...hope I'm wrong. More focus has been towards the R/RP. But one thing leads to another 🤞

I’m sorry that I must have missed the piece about Magic Lantern. Is that the editing software that you are using with the M 50 and maybe the M?? I thought the cinema look you were getting was due to great shooting skills and knowing the best lighting angles etc. paired with a decent quality canon M series camera and the C lenses. Although you also spoke very highly of the canon kit lenses.
Hi Zeek! Thanks for the review. I remember you saying that you didn't enjoy the 15-45 kit lens a while ago so I stayed away from it. I've recently been using the 28m EF-M macro and I love it! Great for macro shots and also for Magic Lantern. Have you tried that one? Also I seem to always use an ND filter. Any tips for shooting raw without one? Thx. Dave
The 28mm macro looks super! I'll have to look into it. I'm also interested in getting the 22mm f2 which can also do close to macro. The kit lenses are nice, unfortunately it seems they can vary in perfomance from copy to copy. For this whole trip I used NO ND Filter. This kit lens can stop down all the way to F/32 which is insane. The quality was still good, but it's unbelievable.
Both the 18-55 (EF) and this lens on the EOS-M have been very convenient for me in the daytime but the low-light performance is not desirable as expected. I also use the Lumix 12-60mm on my BMPCC Original and it gives similar performance. I'm hoping to find an older zoom lens that's at least f/2.8 (with a speed-booster) for the EOS-M and possibly that will also work with the Original, thats as sharp as these kits lenses. Maybe the older Nikon zoom lenses? Off subject: I have to admit the EOS-M is so close to the BMPCC Original that i cant tell the difference between the two.
For low light, that's right these lenses won't cut it. Yeah I've owned original BMPCC before. Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 is a gem in these situations, especially when paired with a speedbooster. There is the Tokina 11-16 f2.8, or 24-70 F2.8. Sigma or Tamron vc 17-50 F2.8, Canon 17-55 F2.8
It's a great little kit lens but, yeah, it seems there are huge swings in quality control between copies. I just got a second one in a kit I got for my wife, so I need to do some testing to see if there are any differences.
@@ZeekEOSZ do you ever shoot telephoto with this camera? I got the 55-200 ef-m with that kit and it has nice colors, good sharpness, and the is feels way more than 3.5 stops. Interested to see what your capable hands could do with that "budget" piece of gear!

Definitely possible. It's been done before. 1080 mode and Upscaled 5K Mode FRTP are continuous. 2.5K @2.35:1 is as well, but not 16:9 in 2.5/2.8K. 2.8K can only do 2.35:1/2.39:1 up to 15 Seconds or more if underexposed. light eats up more data.
so you mentioned that if you're vlogging you don't want to use pro res because of the high GB file size, h.264 or h.265 is the mode to use? I'm really enjoying these Eos M vlogs!! :D 1080p 15mm is very stable! I'm so surprised! 5k frtp mode looks great
It's pretty much a suggestion, go with whatever works with your workflow 👍 Would love to do more of these, but all of this lockdown stuff here ain't fun haha. 😅

They're focus pixels from the sensor. They're normaly red, but applying focus pixel maps mutes them. Depending on the grading software and editing these can appear slightly in highlight areas.
Your footage looks amazing when NOT Vlogging. There is NOT enough IS to keep it stable while walking. That being said I would love to see a mega video where you review like top 5 native canon lens and top 5 Vintage lenses for your EOS M setup.
I think the 11mm-22mm Canon M series has much better IS than this kit lens, and far better for vlogging using selfie sticks, as it has a wider angle of view too. However, this is a great universal lens - ideal for a lot of situations. Great video though.
Great content; you do such an amazing job. I'm wondering what the still images are like? I have the original EOS and it was yeah 50/50, is the EOS M ok for say a product shoot as well - I want to give back my mate's 5dii (which he won't risk installing ML on :( ?)
There's no risk with ML on the 5D2 haha, been doing it for years, pulling batteries out at the wrong time etc.. With the M, absolutely love it for stills. Product shoots will be fine, a good lens is necessary. My Instagram in the description is pretty much all the M.
When shooting stills do you use a different card then the one that has magic lantern on it or is it the same card??? Also if it is the same card how do you make them work together
Everyday I pray to God that ML devs can bring the fixed liveview on 2.5k & 2.8k raw mode just like the 1080p mode and 5k frtp. Other than that, it's a great camera for the money! Thanks zeek for the superb content!
The only issue is that 2.8k/2.5k are only achieved by using the Canon's original magnification "crop", this is how the higher resolutions are achieved, by cropping into the sensor.
No problem! I couldn't tell when. It had really good progress then stopped. Seems the RP/R are getting good development. So one good thing may lead to another. 😉🤞
Yeah, I exported the RAW files as DNG and graded them lightly I'm Davinci Resolve. I've made a video about my Davinci Resolve Workflow with this camera.

Were you shooting in raw mode for the vlog test? Not sure how your recording yourself and get basic image, but then cinematic shots in the next sequence.
How are you getting this content so smooth? It doesn't look like you're using a gimbal, is it stabilized in post or are you just bracing with the strap?
Hi Zeek, how is it going? For Magic Lantern Raw video, is there a difference between the EOS M and the 700D (T5i)? From what I saw both have the same native write speed, and use the same sensor.
Not much difference, I haven't looked much into the 700D Modes, but they are quite similar. I like the EOS M becuase of more adaptability to other lenses e.g. C Mount, FD Lenses, speedboosters, a more compact mirrorless system etc...

Hello Zeek! I know that you have not been posting for a while but I've dusted off my EOS M again. I've spent days reviewing YT videos and trying ML settings. I just can't seem to get any of the settings other than 1080 to work unless it's a manual lens and I only just discover that tonight. I saw this video and I have this kit lens but it breaks the ability to go to anything other than 1080 mode. I hope you're well Zeek and thank you for any insight!
Hello, i used to have the same issue. Heavy noise even with good exposure. Very frustrating. I found that Expo Override on exposure tab was on. I turned it off and the noise became muuuch better.

Hi Zeek, I have the EOS M2 and want to buy Prime Lens Viltrox 23mm f1.4 but there is a compatibility that means that Aparture must be set to Auto for both EOS M and M2. Should I still buy it? What do you suggest?
Not much optically, although the wide end is noticeable. Unfortunately I sold my M6II a few weeks back and the 18-55 had to go with it. If I had to choose one, it would be hard, just depends if you want the wide or the extra reach. AF performance is the same on both, but the 15-45 could be more suited to vlogging.
I have a question. I'm a beginner and I'm going to buy a M50; besides the kit lens, which other lens would you suggest I buy that's a reasonable price to shoot video? Thanks in advance.

@@Thuromc The kit lens is nice, especially with the stabilisation. I think a lens with IS is important. The 22 Pancake is nice I''ve a done a video with it. The kit won't do well in low light. But for general shooting, they're fine!
Not too bad, wondering why Canon doesnt make a RF-S 15-45 2.8 or so, a more compact and finally MODERN version of the EF-S 17-55 2.8. Until that day, the 17-55 2.8 is my "most cinematic lens" :D
I noticed that people are complaining about IQ of this lens all the time. It was my favorite lens on m100. I red that they vary so much in quality from one copy to another due to poor quality control at factory. I love it because of size, versitility and my example was very sharp and silent as well. Now i am little sad that i sold it. :)
I used to hate this lens a lot. It was really bad. Then I purchased it again after a while and realised that I scored a really good copy that blew me away, and now I know that unfortunately they do vary depending on the copy you get...
I Have 2 of this lens and I hate it. I think magic lantern made it look better. You nailed it I must say, I wasn't expecting to see a good footage with that lens
@@IndyVisuals Yeah that's right. I don't ever use 1080 mode anymore. Mainly 2K/2.5K/2.8K or FRTP Modes. 😎👍 With 2.5K Mode it's 35-70mm Equivalent which is cool.
I've made a video on that one. It's definitely a nice lens, copies can vary, but mine does have some Chromatic aberration too. The Pancake 22mm F2 would also be my choice for low light. 😎👍
With the M50/M6II or any other DPAF Canon system, it'll do absolutely well! On the Eos m for video, it's only contrast based AF, so you will get hunting for sure. For photos it works very quickly on the EOS M. 👍

Get one in mint condition or close to. Check glass is clean, no scratches etc... My last copy had a lot of chromatic aberration, but this one is razor sharp and detailed.
Your videos and content are spectacular. One suggestion is: to please pause when you are naming the Camera and the Lens you are talking about. As a viewer I need to clearly know whether it is the M or the M50. This is not a criticism. It is an attempt to want to make sure that I can follow you when you keep switching back and forth from one camera and lens to the other. Since they both looked great I think anyone could figure it out but you move very fast and some may not be able to keep up. just a thought. Thanks.
Zeek finally gives his fans another vid. I have this lens as well, it came with a second hand EOS M I picked up for AU$250. When I was ranking my lenses I put it last until I conducted a head to head lens test. To my absolute surprise it is, as you say, super sharp and the AF and IS is definitely responsive. I wasn't expecting this level of optical quality from a plastic lens. Very surprising indeed. Are you open to discussing collaborative projects outside this forum mate??? How feasible would it be to film a full movie with the eos m? Any modes that record for a couples minutes or is it only short Clips?

Zeek, what's the bottleneck that causes the 15 sec limit, cpu? card write speed?
Yes CPU, Buffer etc. If you underexpose you can get more. I've gotten more than 8 minutes indoor with 2.8K Raw. 👍

No it's the same card. I shoot in photo in movie mode too, or AI. Sometimes you need to twist the lens off and then back on and it will work.

Not much difference, I haven't looked much into the 700D Modes, but they are quite similar. I like the EOS M becuase of more adaptability to other lenses e.g. C Mount, FD Lenses, speedboosters, a more compact mirrorless system etc...
that lens sure does give the veideos that “4k sharpness” look. beautiful vids 💥

Reinstall MLV APP. When you install, it will pop up a message asking if you would like to install focus pixel maps. Select accept/allow!

You can get continuous RAW 🎥👌
It does have aliasing, but the other modes are better with this as seen.
When you say 1080p, are you using the RAW 1080p or standard 1080 on the eos-m running ML?

Hello Zeek! I know that you have not been posting for a while but I've dusted off my EOS M again. I've spent days reviewing YT videos and trying ML settings. I just can't seem to get any of the settings other than 1080 to work unless it's a manual lens and I only just discover that tonight. I saw this video and I have this kit lens but it breaks the ability to go to anything other than 1080 mode. I hope you're well Zeek and thank you for any insight!

2.5K 2.35:1/2.39:1 possibly.

Do you denoise all your EOS M raw vids? No matter what I do I can’t seem to get a noise free image out of this camera regardless of my settings.
Never denoiser. I think TH-cam Compression helps actually. Sometimes you need to sacrifice blowing out the sky to save the shadows etc...
Hello, i used to have the same issue. Heavy noise even with good exposure. Very frustrating. I found that Expo Override on exposure tab was on. I turned it off and the noise became muuuch better.
Between the 15-45 and the 18-55, which one do you like better?
Both honestly, hard to tell them apart. I like the wider FOV on the 15-45mm.

Hi Zeek, I have the EOS M2 and want to buy Prime Lens Viltrox 23mm f1.4 but there is a compatibility that means that Aparture must be set to Auto for both EOS M and M2. Should I still buy it? What do you suggest?

Not much optically, although the wide end is noticeable. Unfortunately I sold my M6II a few weeks back and the 18-55 had to go with it. If I had to choose one, it would be hard, just depends if you want the wide or the extra reach.
AF performance is the same on both, but the 15-45 could be more suited to vlogging.

The kit lens is nice, especially with the stabilisation. I think a lens with IS is important. The 22 Pancake is nice I''ve a done a video with it. The kit won't do well in low light. But for general shooting, they're fine!

Make sure exposure is correct otherwise you will gets lots of noise and chroma in the shadows.

Not too bad, wondering why Canon doesnt make a RF-S 15-45 2.8 or so, a more compact and finally MODERN version of the EF-S 17-55 2.8. Until that day, the 17-55 2.8 is my "most cinematic lens" :D

I noticed that people are complaining about IQ of this lens all the time. It was my favorite lens on m100. I red that they vary so much in quality from one copy to another due to poor quality control at factory. I love it because of size, versitility and my example was very sharp and silent as well. Now i am little sad that i sold it. :)
I used to hate this lens a lot. It was really bad. Then I purchased it again after a while and realised that I scored a really good copy that blew me away, and now I know that unfortunately they do vary depending on the copy you get...
I Have 2 of this lens and I hate it. I think magic lantern made it look better. You nailed it I must say, I wasn't expecting to see a good footage with that lens
I Never use the EOS M without ML haha. I hated it, but now my eyes have been opened to Native EF-M Glass ;)

Yeah that's right. I don't ever use 1080 mode anymore. Mainly 2K/2.5K/2.8K or FRTP Modes. 😎👍
With 2.5K Mode it's 35-70mm Equivalent which is cool.
I have the 18-55mm kit lens and it can get some good shots, but it has so much chromatic aberrations and it's not the greatest in low light.
I've made a video on that one. It's definitely a nice lens, copies can vary, but mine does have some Chromatic aberration too. The Pancake 22mm F2 would also be my choice for low light. 😎👍

With the M50/M6II or any other DPAF Canon system, it'll do absolutely well!
On the Eos m for video, it's only contrast based AF, so you will get hunting for sure.
For photos it works very quickly on the EOS M. 👍

I don't use monitors as much anymore with the M, just the Vlog Mirror or my smartphone as a monitor in the high res modes.

Get one in mint condition or close to. Check glass is clean, no scratches etc...
My last copy had a lot of chromatic aberration, but this one is razor sharp and detailed.
Your videos and content are spectacular. One suggestion is: to please pause when you are naming the Camera and the Lens you are talking about. As a viewer I need to clearly know whether it is the M or the M50. This is not a criticism. It is an attempt to want to make sure that I can follow you when you keep switching back and forth from one camera and lens to the other. Since they both looked great I think anyone could figure it out but you move very fast and some may not be able to keep up. just a thought. Thanks.
Thanks! The B-roll at the start shows the EOS M Original. It has no flip out screen and no viewfinder.
Zeek finally gives his fans another vid. I have this lens as well, it came with a second hand EOS M I picked up for AU$250. When I was ranking my lenses I put it last until I conducted a head to head lens test. To my absolute surprise it is, as you say, super sharp and the AF and IS is definitely responsive. I wasn't expecting this level of optical quality from a plastic lens. Very surprising indeed. Are you open to discussing collaborative projects outside this forum mate??? Thanks for another great vlog.
