I think the dior exposure was the last nail in the coffin for most. Because it absolutely proved that it’s an even bigger lie than we had thought. We knew the markup was extreme but the proof was just absolutely disgusting and disappointing.

This is it. We all knew that the markup on luxury fashion was high, but the discrepancy was a lot higher than we imagined. It does feel like a con rather than a justifiable price to pay for a luxury item. It also in some ways supports buyers decisions to buy fakes. Why spend thousands on an item that is only worth the $100-$200 it’s sold for on luxury fake websites?

It truly is the end of luxury. I just don't understand why people are continuing to buy and buy and buy. You know what true luxury is? Have one special watch and a couple of luxury bags not a closet full. When your few quality over quantity items become your signature statement pieces. What isn't luxury is when people just buy and buy and rotate and spend thousands and thousands to the point where they use a bag once or twice and sell it because they are bored. Cost per wear is a few thousand???? That's the opposite of luxury.

I don't consider Chanel and Hermes luxury. Honestly, when I began seeing them on almost every single reality tv star, it lost its special with me. To me, they became common looking. This made everyone who watched the shows want one because they saw so and so wear on tv. Suddenly, they are all over the place. I mean, when I see the Hermes bag on TH-cam compared with the Walmart version which apparently is the talk of the town, that is pretty bad.

The prices of groceries are so high. Everyone has to eat, pay rent or mortgage before thinking of fashion. They've priced alot of people out and their quality issues are increasing on a daily basis

I feel the reason luxury is dead would be because everything is on display with technology versus back in the day you couldn’t get a Birds Eye view on production or any expert aka influencer advice. Brands could sell us a fantasy that the bags were made in Italy or any other country we could only dream of visiting. Countries you’d only see in a magazine but the gimmicks are over now. Factories are able to set up their online businesses and secretly sell directly to consumers under the disguise as superfakes. No more middle man on either side.
People are able to start their own businesses and directly connect with these factories and get Italian leather bags made.

The prices of Chanel handbags have gotten so outrageously expensive that I haven’t made any purchases this year. The seasonal handbag I like is $6,500, so it’s $7,100 with 9.25% tax here in CA. Remember this $7,100 is after tax money, cannot afford their price point anymore. 😏😒🤨 I have stopped supporting because the frequency of their price increase is simply ridiculous. I used to buy several CC handbags a year to buying zero this year. 😭 If they want my business back, need to take a hard look and re-evaluate their pricing structure before losing another customer for good. 😲

But the male interests in Lamborghinis and Rolexes and vintage cognacs - that’s crashing too.
Very perceptive analysis, particularly your dissection of the China market, including the “tune of the music has changed”…you have seen through the chicaneries of the shekkelgrubbers.
    A very powerful ending!

Chanel had an outlet at Woodbury Commons, it did quite well. It was mostly ready to wear and some costume jewelry and small leather goods. I don’t recall there being any handbags there. They could barely keep bags in stock in those days. At that time Chanel USA ran somewhat independent of global, now they’re all united. I’m not surprised if prices go up in order to put them further out of reach for the greater public. Luxury isn’t only about the cost to make the item, it’s also about how limited it is. The industry will always be there for those who want and can afford it. I’ll always want my Chanel ballet flats, and I know I may want to replace one of my classics in black as the one I use most is showing wear. Otherwise, I really need to use what I have.

They think long term? It looks to me like they’re just living for the day with these obscene cash grabs. Their constant significant price hikes were never sustainable. There was always going to come a point where they alienated most of their customer base.

Gutting quality to extract short term profits at the expense of long term viability is NOT thinking long term.

It facsinates me, i stead of saying oh we f-up with all those price hikes, they would rather blame customer that he is fatugued .... this is so french/corpo answer..., trust me if that bag was still 3500 and still in the same quality or even 5k people would buy them regardless of recession as they did regardless of potentionally not existing after C...

I do not think that luxury goods should be as high as they are and where anyways considering that over and over again it's been proven that a lot of leathers and things that are being used to make these bags and shoes are not even real leather people are being played and just because it has a quote unquote luxury logo on it that's why people are buying these things

On the news today, it was reported that various companies are already pulling out of foreign manufacturing commitments in anticipation of Trump’s import tariffs. Guess that means we might get some factories here.

As long as people big up each other for having European brands, they will survive. The key is to switch your mindset to rebuke these brands in favor of new houses of fashion for the new millennium. Its 2024 for crying out loud. Chanel ? Absolutely not.

If you got the money support an african brand, a Brazilian brand, SOMEBODY other than chanel and louis vuitton. 😂 these old houses are outdated and new ones that are filled with vibrant , fresh young designers must take their place. Stop the brainwashed madness!!!! Down with these fashion houses! Let the Europeans hold up these brands
