Excellent video. I used the game manager today and my games are running so much better than before and with box art. Audio glitches and graphic icons have now been corrected. I have not had success with the 32x games and sega cd games yet. That is a step for tomorrow. I would highly recommend this product and your channel.

Thanks for this video! After buying the 2018 version recently for a good price I decided to dive in. I shoulda listened first and got a 16 GB SDcard, but I ended up buying a 64 GB SDcard. I figured let's try it and I formatted it to Fat32 and gave it a go. Loaded 3 Sega CD Games and 1 Genesis game for testing and it worked like a charm! Gosh the intro's to Dark Wizard, Lunar, and Vay brought back memories. I appreciate what you do and thanks for this video!
@@massimilianosabato try rename it to bios_CD_U.bin just like that mine was like sh1011usa.bios or whatever but I rename it like above and it worked , thing is this guy discusses GenGX but not pico so it's a bit confusing what name game files 📁 bios etc cuz both custom emu use different codewords for everything let me know if either way worked
(2022 UPDATE) 1. The official AT Games update can no longer be downloaded, but you can get it from reddit 2. The google box art feature no longer works on the Game Manager Everything else seems fine !

Thanks for the update, I will try out the custom firmware on my UK unit. For those of you in the UK, the Megadrive may still available from Argos clearance, but the Options menu item won't be there. I contacted AT Games, and they confirmed that you can download the Genesis firmware from the site without entering the console ID (If you register on the site and then go back to the page the download link should show). Also, you can register using the example console ID they show on their screenshot 😉. Note that if you then apply the firmware, the console will now be a Genesis and not Megadrive, so the Megadrive logo will go. I did ask if there was a Megadrive firmware, but it's not available at the moment, but they did confirm that the Genesis update firmware should work fine.
Yes, you are 100% correct.... it does indeed become a 'Genesis', but sadly, with some game roms, it won't play them, as the game expects a PAL region Megadrive... :-( Plus it takes some roms and plays them as Japanese:- The 'Streets Of Rage' games are now 'Bare Knuckle' with Japanese text in the menu's; even my UK cartridge of 'Streets Of Rage 2' now plays as 'Bare Knuckle 2'....!!! However, having the option to play nearly ALL the Megadrive/Genesis library on the AtGames console is pretty awesome! And those games that it won't play, I transfered to my MegaDrive Mini via Hakchi, and they work perfectly! :-)
I tried the official firmware update and it didn’t work. But then I tried the custom firmware and it worked ! Better too because I can add the game artwork. Thanks Patton, great video.

I managed to get the last one in town from Gamestop, but only because you recommended it. I really, really like the official one that is about to come out but what I don't like is that the extra controllers are $20 a pop, and yeah I'm sure eventually you'll be able to add games , but I've still got carts floating around here somewhere, and even though I don't have an original controller at the moment, I'm sure I can find one in decent shape. Only downside is, I've only got a couple of larger SD cards, but I can fit everything, including my personal favorite SCD games, on to one card, as long as the system will read it!

@Patton Plays Have you tried searching for the game roms that will appear on the Genesis Mini, but have been excluded from the Genesis Flashback (2018)? I'll need to go through all of the reviews I watched for the Genesis Mini, because I believe some of the games might not have had a North American release. So, although, all of the roms are probably somewhere online, some of them may never have been translated.
Yeah, whenever you can; If you can. I plan on reviewing the full list and the reviews for each game when I have more free time, but I suppose this incentivizes buying both the Genesis Flashback (2018) and the Genesis Mini as well. There will probably be strong demand for the Genesis Mini. So, I'll consider getting that first before the Genesis Flashback. But my perception of the two consoles hasn't changed. The Genesis Flashback seems to be the better choice. Thanks for the tutorial video on adding new games! I'll revisit this after I get a Genesis Flashback and SD card.
Hey I found an old Genesis Flashback console FB3680. When I turn it on it says "error" Do you know of a way to reload the original firmware to get it to boot. I did try a 2.8.6 image but no luck. Can you please help me? Thanks
Hey P. So... I've done exactly what is said to load the SD card & update on a 16GB card. It started the system update, but is just stuck in an endless loop of about 80% progress. I've brought up the DOS menu , and trying a factory reset or any other function just ends up resulting in the system update looping and getting stuck at 80% completion. I left it for over an hour. I'm assuming it should only take prob 15 minutes tops? What's a guy to do. I now can't play any games or get the original menu to come up. If you have any tips, please let me know. Also, the originally installed games have no sound. There was the repeating main menu music, but no sound in any games. Heard of this before? Cheers, Robb
I was able to play Sonic CD on my Sega Genesis Flashback 2018 and it works well. 😁 For those of you having trouble and want to know how to convert the .zip files to .chd files, I found a video that can help you with that. @@mrbigray01 1. When you download a Sega CD rom online (i.e. romhustler.org), make sure that it is a zip file that contains both a .bin file and a .cue file. Extract them from the zip file. 2. Create a new folder on your desktop and place the .bin and .cue files inside it. 3. Click on the link that Patton Plays provided in the description of this video labeled "Program to create CHD files". You will the find two more files called "chdman.exe" and "_km_bin_&_cue_to_chd.bat". Move them to the same folder where you put the .bin and .cue files for your Sega CD game. You should now have four files in your new folder. 4. Click on the file labeled "_km_bin_&_cue_to_chd.bat", or right-click on the file and click on "Run as administrator". A command prompt window will appear. No need to panic as all it is doing is compressing the .bin and .cue files into a .chd file. Wait until compressing is 100% complete. When it is done compressing, the command prompt window will disappear. You will now have a .chd file in your new folder for your Sega CD game. 5. Remove the SD card from your Sega Genesis Flashback and insert it into your computer. Take the .chd file from your new folder and move it to the "GAME" folder on your SD card. 6. Reinsert the SD card onto your Sega Genesis Flashback console and turn it on. The file should appear on the screen once you go the "SD Card" option. Select the game and now your playing a Sega CD game on your Sega Genesis Flashback. (Note: Make sure that you also have the Sega CD bios files on the "GAME" folder (shown at 7:41) and to replace the spaces on the Sega CD rom name with underscores. Without these. The game will not boot up. Also, the .chd file will also create some .brm files on the "GAME" folder and will appear on the Sega Genesis Flashback screen in the "SD Card" option once you turn off and turn on the system or re-insert the SD card onto your computer. Those .brm files are back-up ram files that are made to emulate the internal memory of the Sega CD. Each .chd file will create these .brm files when placed on the SD card.)

Hey Patton, I just discovered an issue regarding the Sega CD games I have added on my Sega Genesis Flashback 2018. I now have 11 Sega CD games on my SD Card along with some Sega Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, SG-1000, and Sega Pico games. After I downloaded my tenth Sega CD rom on my SD card, I began to notice that the save states no longer work. This issue only happens whenever I play a Sega CD game on my Genesis Flashback. And when I picked a non-Sega CD rom (Sega Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, etc.) after playing one of my Sega CD roms, the save states don't work on those roms either. However, if I choose a non-Sega CD rom first when I turn on the console, the save states work fine. I have my roms on a 16GB SD card and roughly have 13GB of storage left. Have you ever encountered this problem when playing Sega CD games on the Genesis Flashback? Keep in mind that I only encountered this issue after downloading my tenth Sega CD rom. Prior to this, the save states worked perfectly fine.
The sega genesis Flashback 2018 model is not available anymore on their website for update, but the other method with the custom firmware works perfectly, thanks bro.

Followed step by step. I download the update but there is no option to register my console....but i get it renamed and put on SD card, when i boot up.my console..NO UPDATE just boots as normal. About to give up and take it back.. half the games on this were never even released on the sega, if i cant put the games i want on it, the system is a paperweight because the out of 85 they give you about 5 of them are worth playing.
Do I need the picodrive version AND the regular version to play both Genesis and 32x games or can I just use the picodrive version to play both 32x and Genesis games?
How can I play the Sega CD games with the music. Seems like the games just have the sound effects and some videos but not in game play music. What am I missing?
People rip on AT Games , but the Atari Flashback 9 HD and the Sega Genesis Flashback 2018 HD model are the best they've put out! With the Atari , you can also add every Atari game plus homebrews through the SD card slot. Both work perfectly and work and look great on new TVs. Something you cannot do without expensive mods to the original consoles.
@@PattonPlays yes the AT Games Genesis is pretty good I hope the other Genesis mini by Sega can be hacked to add more games, I have both and there is pros and cons with each but overall I like these retro consoles . The NES mini is also great
I have the legends flashback and the firmware update from atgames I can play genesis and sega cd from their firmware update. I have read in forums 32x also works with the genesis flashback with atgames firmware update.

It wont allow me to put a serial number for registering on the website... I have the update on my 16gb SD card but when in the genesis the firmware update doesn't pop up

If there is no SD card slot, then you likely have the 2017 version of the flashback HD. I have that one as well and also the 2018 version. If you open up the 2017 version there is a mini USB connector, but I can't speak to the ability to update the firmware on the older flashback HD. I am genuinely curious if it is possible. I know some people have been able to do this by hooking it to their computer and accessing through linux, but there are also two different versions of Linux software on these older ones, and it is possible to mess it up beyond repair. Ideally, I would love to add a small USB SD card adapter to that mini USB connector and cut a hole in the side for it.... But I don't know if it could support that.
I can also confirm that games that had previously sounded horrible on AtGames consoles, now sound great on this console. Phantasy Star 3 is a great one to test with, because the older AtGames Genesis consoles with the fire GX emulation absolutely slaughtered the soundtrack as the game started.
@Patton Plays Thank you for this. Wells done. I have a 64 GB and it works well. I am having trouble with the CD games. The Game Manager lets me add either bin or Chd but not cue. The chd wont boot, the bin will, but no music. I have the correct bios files. What am I missing and doing wrong?
Figured it out...so the Pico Drive edition does not read chd files apparently. The solution that worked for me was to add the .bin files with Game Manager then manually (copy paste) the cue file for the game into the roms folder. You will need to edit the allgames.ini file to change the file extension for your game to .cue Example: SonicCDU.bin will be renamed SonicCDU.cue. You will also need to edit the .cue file for the game so it matches the name the Game Manager renamed the bin file. For Example: Sonic CD (U).bin needs to be changed to SonicCDU.bin in the cue file. Plays perfectly now with awesome sound.
Hi could you please help me because I have done all the methods you said and when I went to go and play Sonic_3.bin (the only game I had on the SD card) and when I pressed a to play the game it said “OOPS!” “The game is not running properly. You can keep waiting or less the a button to go back to menu” so I waited over 2 hours and it still didn’t start so please can you help me

Hey Patton, I do not have the field required to enter the Product UID in order to register my genesis flashback. It only has a download button. I tried downloading the AFZ app to scan the QR code o the screen, but that bar code doesn't scan. Any ideas around why it doesn't give me a product UID registration field? Thanks
hey. i faced a problem. i follow the same steps. i have registered in Atgames website, download the Fareware and change the name to sega_update.img and copied in SD card with FAT32 . as i insert the SD card, the message for update does not pop up and i can not update the device. can u help me please. thanks
I downloaded the latest version of their official firmware but it seemed like garbage. I couldn't get Master System games to work on it so I just reverted back to the custom firmware. Also, how the hell do I turn my system off?
If you are saying that the light stays on even after you switch it off, I have seen that as well. Perhaps try a different power adapter for the USB cable. It's also possible that the HDMI cable is providing some power to the system. With the right USB power adapter, the system will power off just fine using the switch.

Hi, I just bought the system but everything I try to download the updated firmware on a SD card from atgames website it says the file is corrupt. When I insert the SD card into the sega it does not read the card at all? Can anyone help with this?
I installed the program manager and after installing about 500 games it generated an error and could no longer read the all-game file, so I lost all my work. Can anyone tell me if they have an answer that will help me from this happening again. Sure was a lot of work doing one game at a time + box art.
I am getting a bootloop during the upgrade. I have the 2018 model and it shows installing system update, then it says installing update. It resets and restarts the installing update and boot loops. I used a 16GB SD card formatted with FAT32. I downloaded it and saved it as sega_update, but didn't call it sega_update.img as other said .img didn't work.

Hello, I really like your vids. They are very informative! I was tinkering with the CFW and had it up and running. I later reset to factory but re-applied the CFW again. I then added a good portion of GameGear and MasterSystem games. I then tried booting up from the SD and nothing comes up, no menu, just a black screen. I can take the SD out and boot normally and it will run MasterSystem and Gamegear without issue from the SD option. I checked the.ini file on the SD card for for issues but I can't figure it out. Have you run into this at all?
I was not able to get it working however, with the CFW installed and removing the rooms folder altogether, I do retain the original stock games and any SMS and Game gear games in the GAME folder work from the SD card without issue. I can work with that I think. I am working on 32x and Sega CD roms to work later. On another note, Walmart has the Sega GenesIs mini for 49.00 so yea...I snagged that too.😃

I downloaded a Game Genie Rom to the SD Card and is working. Does anyone know if I enter codes into it and move on to the actual game file, on the SD Card, if they will carry over? I am 99% sure No. As I told Patton on my last post, I am not the sharpest on the back end. But does anyone know if this will work or if there is a way to apply cheat codes to games on built on to the console as well as SD Card? Thank You!
I put an update on mine and now it says error even when I take out the sd card! It wont go past the black screen with error on it. I have googled for hours and have not found anyone else with this error. Any help?
I followed the directions tonight with mixed results. Sega Master and 32X work great. Some Genesis games work and some don't. None of the Sega CD's work, and Game Gear starts but won't get past the start screen which looks garbled. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Hi, I am using the AtGames firmware, can I install Game Gear and Master system games by changing the file to .BIN and making sure the titles have underscores instead of spaces....or will only work with Genesis/MegaDrive Titles?

1 year later but yeah, I had to download the artbox for each of my games, that function doesn´t work anymore.

I discovered that I can load and play SegaCD without the .chd format. .bin file work fine as long as you have the BIOS in the rom folder.
As long as you manually place the .CUE file for the audio tracks in the rom folder with it, then yes it works great!

Hey P. So... I've done exactly what is said to load the SD card & update on a 16GB card. It started the system update, but is just stuck in an endless loop of about 80% progress. I've brought up the DOS menu , and trying a factory reset or any other function just ends up resulting in the system update looping and getting stuck at 80% completion. I left it for over an hour. I'm assuming it should only take prob 15 minutes tops? What's a guy to do. I now can't play any games or get the original menu to come up. If you have any tips, please let me know. Also, the originally installed games have no sound. There was the repeating main menu music, but no sound in any games. Heard of this before? Cheers, Robb

I was able to play Sonic CD on my Sega Genesis Flashback 2018 and it works well. 😁 For those of you having trouble and want to know how to convert the .zip files to .chd files, I found a video that can help you with that. It is in Portuguese but by watching the video, you can see how the person does it. I tried it and it works.

1. When you download a Sega CD rom online (i.e. romhustler.org), make sure that it is a zip file that contains both a .bin file and a .cue file. Extract them from the zip file.
2. Create a new folder on your desktop and place the .bin and .cue files inside it.
3. Click on the link that Patton Plays provided in the description of this video labeled "Program to create CHD files". You will the find two more files called "chdman.exe" and "_km_bin_&_cue_to_chd.bat". Move them to the same folder where you put the .bin and .cue files for your Sega CD game. You should now have four files in your new folder.
4. Click on the file labeled "_km_bin_&_cue_to_chd.bat", or right-click on the file and click on "Run as administrator". A command prompt window will appear. No need to panic as all it is doing is compressing the .bin and .cue files into a .chd file. Wait until compressing is 100% complete. When it is done compressing, the command prompt window will disappear. You will now have a .chd file in your new folder for your Sega CD game.
5. Remove the SD card from your Sega Genesis Flashback and insert it into your computer. Take the .chd file from your new folder and move it to the "GAME" folder on your SD card.
6. Reinsert the SD card onto your Sega Genesis Flashback console and turn it on. The file should appear on the screen once you go the "SD Card" option. Select the game and now your playing a Sega CD game on your Sega Genesis Flashback.
(Note: Make sure that you also have the Sega CD bios files on the "GAME" folder (shown at 7:41) and to replace the spaces on the Sega CD rom name with underscores. Without these. The game will not boot up. Also, the .chd file will also create some .brm files on the "GAME" folder and will appear on the Sega Genesis Flashback screen in the "SD Card" option once you turn off and turn on the system or re-insert the SD card onto your computer. Those .brm files are back-up ram files that are made to emulate the internal memory of the Sega CD. Each .chd file will create these .brm files when placed on the SD card.)

Hey Patton, I just discovered an issue regarding the Sega CD games I have added on my Sega Genesis Flashback 2018. I now have 11 Sega CD games on my SD Card along with some Sega Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, SG-1000, and Sega Pico games. After I downloaded my tenth Sega CD rom on my SD card, I began to notice that the save states no longer work. This issue only happens whenever I play a Sega CD game on my Genesis Flashback. And when I picked a non-Sega CD rom (Sega Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, etc.) after playing one of my Sega CD roms, the save states don't work on those roms either. However, if I choose a non-Sega CD rom first when I turn on the console, the save states work fine. I have my roms on a 16GB SD card and roughly have 13GB of storage left. Have you ever encountered this problem when playing Sega CD games on the Genesis Flashback? Keep in mind that I only encountered this issue after downloading my tenth Sega CD rom. Prior to this, the save states worked perfectly fine.

Followed step by step. I download the update but there is no option to register my console....but i get it renamed and put on SD card, when i boot up.my console..NO UPDATE just boots as normal. About to give up and take it back.. half the games on this were never even released on the sega, if i cant put the games i want on it, the system is a paperweight because the out of 85 they give you about 5 of them are worth playing.

People rip on AT Games , but the Atari Flashback 9 HD and the Sega Genesis Flashback 2018 HD model are the best they've put out! With the Atari , you can also add every Atari game plus homebrews through the SD card slot. Both work perfectly and work and look great on new TVs. Something you cannot do without expensive mods to the original consoles.
I was actually considering getting the newest Atari actually. The Genesis Flashback really impressed me.

I have the legends flashback and the firmware update from atgames I can play genesis and sega cd from their firmware update. I have read in forums 32x also works with the genesis flashback with atgames firmware update.

Hey I'm pretty sure I have the 2018 model the box is the same as mine but I don't think I have a SD card?
If there is no SD card slot, then you likely have the 2017 version of the flashback HD. I have that one as well and also the 2018 version. If you open up the 2017 version there is a mini USB connector, but I can't speak to the ability to update the firmware on the older flashback HD.
I am genuinely curious if it is possible. I know some people have been able to do this by hooking it to their computer and accessing through linux, but there are also two different versions of Linux software on these older ones, and it is possible to mess it up beyond repair.
Ideally, I would love to add a small USB SD card adapter to that mini USB connector and cut a hole in the side for it.... But I don't know if it could support that.
Did this revision fix the wonky sound from the initial release of ATGames Genesis HDMI models?
This runs with genesis plus gx. No sound issues from what I've heard.
I can also confirm that games that had previously sounded horrible on AtGames consoles, now sound great on this console. Phantasy Star 3 is a great one to test with, because the older AtGames Genesis consoles with the fire GX emulation absolutely slaughtered the soundtrack as the game started.

@Patton Plays Thank you for this. Wells done. I have a 64 GB and it works well. I am having trouble with the CD games. The Game Manager lets me add either bin or Chd but not cue. The chd wont boot, the bin will, but no music. I have the correct bios files. What am I missing and doing wrong?
Figured it out...so the Pico Drive edition does not read chd files apparently. The solution that worked for me was to add the .bin files with Game Manager then manually (copy paste) the cue file for the game into the roms folder. You will need to edit the allgames.ini file to change the file extension for your game to .cue Example: SonicCDU.bin will be renamed SonicCDU.cue. You will also need to edit the .cue file for the game so it matches the name the Game Manager renamed the bin file. For Example: Sonic CD (U).bin needs to be changed to SonicCDU.bin in the cue file. Plays perfectly now with awesome sound.

Hey Patton, I do not have the field required to enter the Product UID in order to register my genesis flashback. It only has a download button. I tried downloading the AFZ app to scan the QR code o the screen, but that bar code doesn't scan. Any ideas around why it doesn't give me a product UID registration field? Thanks

I downloaded the latest version of their official firmware but it seemed like garbage. I couldn't get Master System games to work on it so I just reverted back to the custom firmware. Also, how the hell do I turn my system off?
If you are saying that the light stays on even after you switch it off, I have seen that as well. Perhaps try a different power adapter for the USB cable. It's also possible that the HDMI cable is providing some power to the system.
With the right USB power adapter, the system will power off just fine using the switch.

I installed the program manager and after installing about 500 games it generated an error and could no longer read the all-game file, so I lost all my work.

I am getting a bootloop during the upgrade. I have the 2018 model and it shows installing system update, then it says installing update. It resets and restarts the installing update and boot loops.
I used a 16GB SD card formatted with FAT32. I downloaded it and saved it as sega_update, but didn't call it sega_update.img as other said .img didn't work.

Hello, I really like your vids. They are very informative! I was tinkering with the CFW and had it up and running. I later reset to factory but re-applied the CFW again. I then added a good portion of GameGear and MasterSystem games. I then tried booting up from the SD and nothing comes up, no menu, just a black screen. I can take the SD out and boot normally and it will run MasterSystem and Gamegear without issue from the SD option. I checked the.ini file on the SD card for for issues but I can't figure it out. Have you run into this at all?
I have not sorry. I would try and check the card for corruption. Try and another card and see if it works.
I was not able to get it working however, with the CFW installed and removing the rooms folder altogether, I do retain the original stock games and any SMS and Game gear games in the GAME folder work from the SD card without issue. I can work with that I think. I am working on 32x and Sega CD roms to work later. On another note, Walmart has the Sega GenesIs mini for 49.00 so yea...I snagged that too.😃

I downloaded a Game Genie Rom to the SD Card and is working. Does anyone know if I enter codes into it and move on to the actual game file, on the SD Card, if they will carry over? I am 99% sure No. As I told Patton on my last post, I am not the sharpest on the back end. But does anyone know if this will work or if there is a way to apply cheat codes to games on built on to the console as well as SD Card? Thank You!
I put an update on mine and now it says error even when I take out the sd card! It wont go past the black screen with error on it. I have googled for hours and have not found anyone else with this error. Any help?

I followed the directions tonight with mixed results. Sega Master and 32X work great. Some Genesis games work and some don't. None of the Sega CD's work, and Game Gear starts but won't get past the start screen which looks garbled. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Sega CD you need the bios files if you haven't added them. Are you using the custom firmware? Otherwise nothing but Genesis will be available.

Hi, I am using the AtGames firmware, can I install Game Gear and Master system games by changing the file to .BIN and making sure the titles have underscores instead of spaces....or will only work with Genesis/MegaDrive Titles?
