    Back on to the Workshop build folks after a bit of a lull with the installation of the UPVC door which actually makes the workshop fully watertight!😀
    I had to draft in some help again on the day itself as I saw it simply as too dangerous to attempt myself and risk the door falling on me or even falling out of the space. If you are thinking of attempting something like this I really would recommend those Trend inflatable wedges I used in the installation as they make the job so much easier.
    I finished off the following day insulating around the door before internally sealing it in with some leftover OSB board. I hope you enjoy this episode of the build. I am almost into the home straight now with 'just' the cladding and guttering to do. Please give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and maybe consider subscribing to the channel🤷‍♂️. Best wishes, Leo

    Just a quick 'point of order' folks, in the video I referenced the OSB flooring boards as being 11mm when they are actually 18mm👍

    I'm doing the same thing, not only is it a hell of a lot easier than making my own door but it's actually working out cheaper at £35 for the upvc door vs probably £80 minimum when you include all the hinges, lock, handle, wood and screws and then i got all the upvc windows for free and some of those are still brand new with the original protective plastic on the frames.

      @@Hand-i-Craft THanks, Leo. I have changed my plans and now going to put corrugated metal on the roof instead of OCSB and felt. When you clad yours are you putting2x1 battens on top of the house wrap to hold the cladding off?

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wilbearworks It’s a great question Wil as I’m doing my homework at the minute on that exact question! I’m reluctant to put battens on tbh as it takes away a little from the modular idea. Plus I don’t have an external skin of OSB and a 40mm air gap behind the Tyvek so is it needed? But also think maybe it’s not a great idea to have the wrap making direct contact with the cladding so I’m toying with the idea of supergluing a 5mm packer on the back of the cladding where I’ll run a fixing through🤷‍♂️. I’ll probably put this question out on Instagram over the weekend and see what advice I get back👍. Also do you happen to know with the Tyvek whether you tape all the edges (inc top and bottom) or just the central joint where the wrap overlaps?

    • @wilbearworks
      @wilbearworks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hand-i-Craft Theoretically, there is no need to seal the joins of the Tyvek. If you consider roofing felt, it's not taped together, just overlapped. I am going to use 2x1s split down to 1/2 x 2 to keep an air gap with an insects screen top and bottom. I'm using a 4x2 frame and 100 mm insulation with Tyvek cover, 1/2 air gap, and pre-painted softwood cladding. What cladding are you using if you want to retain modular status? Are your units 1200mm wide. you could use the air vent system but put 1200mm cladding and a joining strip on each module?

    You are not on your own with wondering which way round. I replaced the window in my garage and wondered which way the sealed unit glass went in clear or obscure on the outside, so I checked with the toilet window in the house and did it the same way. A couple of weeks later my builder friend told me it was the wrong way round, I laughed because he installed the toilet window when he built my extension 😂😂😂😂

    • @Hand-i-Craft

      Thanks Nial. We did both tbh, some screwed through packers, if you look at the video the last screw I put in was on the top on the hinge side. Such a good job, Leo and it looks great. So many good tips shared too. One thing about the Osmo, check out Tim’s latest video @therestorationcouple, apparently doesn’t do so well on flat surfaces, but sure it will be fine there because of the eaves. Top job!🏅

    • @Hand-i-Craft
      @Hand-i-Craft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mandy. I haven’t seen the RC couple video, but did read something about certain types of Osmo not holding up well on flat surfaces. I went with this though, as you say it is pretty well protected, and it is on the side that doesn’t bare the brunt of the weather. Plus you wouldn’t believe how well it has held up on the epoxy resin outdoor project pieces I done. The ‘top 3’ are still out there and number 3 and 2 have totally failed now. I know that board was on a 45 degree ish angle but the Osmo coated one is still going strong 👍👍. Might do an Instagram post about that later 🤔👍
