    I think it's a solid game. I like the artstyle, world and characters.I wish it wasn't dumbed down and didn't have the tiered stuff.

      I like to call this phenomenon "Corporate Erosion", where a product is gradually made similar to other products for supposed mass market appeal, even when it inhabits a market niche that grants it a secure customer base. The resulting product almost always underperforms as it ends up trying to cater to both the mass market and it's original identity, managing to do neither.

      That's what happens when you make a game an action RPG. A system with soo many variables will inevitably be an optimal method as it is very hard to balance all aspects of the design.

      Yeah. Too bad that there were no other ways of breaking the loop. I mean - I get it - ther could be this one canon way (easiest one), but maybe there could be like 2-3 other ways, rewarded with achievements? People would really love it. It could be even something as easy as e.g. setting a bomb in Weinje lab while ruining Egors experiment or doing something that would cause Fia and Charlie to attend party instead of Egor and Weinje.

    I mostly enjoyed Deathloop when I played it, but you know what would make it better? If instead of a retro-futuristic 60's island, it was set on a retro-futuristic space station, and instead of fighting Manson family hippies you fought knockoff headcrabs that are just scribbly black blobs. Then it would be really good.

      Yeah! It would be cool if it had a fully fleshed out system with mutations and augmentations that make you gain a lot of skills and stuff like that, to the point you can even begin to lose your humanity and turrets and other defense systems mistake you for an alien

    For a game that sold itself on such a unique interesting timeloop story mechanic, it sure didn't do much with it outside of "don't die the same way again." The game being so easy without difficulty setting it never really challenges you much, everyone vulnerable to headshots results in enemies not posing a challenge, only Julianna because she can tank hits. Tougher enemies would encourage more stealth and sneakier playstyles, the awkward combat of Dishonoured encouraged this too.

      What’s REALLY WEIRD is that it came out in a year CROWDED WITH GAMES that used a “time loop” as a central concept and ALMOST EVERY OTHER GAME executed that concept BETTER (ESPECIALLY Returnal).

      Funny thing is, the “don’t die the same again” already exist in Dishonored just from how the game encourages you to experiment with pathing and powers. Playing Deathloop just felt like Dishonored with less tools and a more stringent goal.
      Needless to say, the game is decent, but it is the most undeserving 10/10 I have ever seen

      This is something we see a lot of in gamers who've been swimming in the mainstream for too long... a Nintendo-esque degree of self-deception in service of the publishers who forced developers to make a multiplayer shooter instead of something creative, and in service of being able to say "Yeah, this was worth sixty dollars." Go indie, folks. You'll save money, and you won't want to go back.
      Loop Hero, I've played through three or four times because it's pure charm and passion. Deathloop, I don't even want to touch.
      I couldn't even be bothered to play Dishonored 1. Got partway in, and the overwhelming feeling was "Yeeeeep, done and seen all of this before. There's a teleport dash and I just don't care. What else ya got? Oh, nothing? Cool, cool. Maybe I'll play ya later... at some indeterminate point in the future."
      I doubt Arkane are to blame for this. Were they free, they would likely make far better games. But they're not free, they're chained up in the cubicle slave pits under a publisher with a big fat marketing budget and the compulsive need to use that marketing budget to justify dumbing down and bland-ifying absolutely everything, with one eye on the latest trends (already passing them by of course), and the other eye on how much money they can squeeze from people to "earn" back their ludicrous ad investments.

      Yeah I have absolutely no idea why it was so hyped up it always looked meh to me, nothing about the promotional material looked great to me and then when it came out it was extremely mid and people were all "GOTY!" and like...why though? It doesn't have a single defining aspect that makes it stand out as something special. It's not even as good as Dishonored, not even slightly.

    Fun little known thing about deathloop.
    Its intro experience and the whole loop protection sequence where you get to keep guns had to be iterated more than any other part of the game. Test players could not figure it out.

      It's unfortunate really, the original ideas that Dana Nightingale, the campaign designer (whatever that means), sounded really cool. She also designed my favorite level in dishonored 2 (Clockwork Mansion) and I would have loved to see her vision if it wasn't watered down. would make a cool dlc or something.

      my thoughts too, when i'd tried Among Us it immediately felt like a Space Station 13 lite haha. Be nice if the dev of that game put it on a smoother faster engine in general, it's an incredible MP experience.

    My favorite part of Deathloop was when I got to the party at the end of the day. Aleksis looks like everyone else at the party and you're supposed to do some quest to be able to identify him. Except the AI in the game is some of the worst ever put in a shooter. So instead of methodically figuring out who Aleksis was, I just went in blasting everyone until I got him. Much better use of my time than completing the quest. That was the only choice I felt like I actually made in the game. Everything else was just following the exact path the game wanted me to follow

    The invasion aspect was really fun to me. Would literally spend hours as an invader with specific tactics for every map, adrenaline pumping waiting for the perfect strike.

    Deathloop as Cole is about a 6/10, Deathloop as Julianna after beating the game is like 9/10 as you know exactly where all the Coles will be and what they’re doing and you get to ruin it all

    To answer the title question. It certainly is a 10/10 game!!! 9/10 minimum. The entire island, the story, the gameplay and mechanics, all of it was so soooooo goooood. Unlike anything we have had before. Arkane studios knows how to make games. Redfall wasnt their fault. That was Bethesda's doing

      ​@@gkkk2735 To me it destroys an enigma behind Outsider and as such a part of the worldbuilding. First 'Dishonored' managed to make the Outsider distinctly eldritch being despite the human skin he wore, the manifestation of the Void barely touching human realm in comprehensible to us way, yet in Death of the Outsider he is just a dude. Powerful but just a dude.
      I firmly believe that The Outsider should have been left enigma but DH2 searched to milk this enigma for the loud title and explain it.
      Gameplay-wise 'Death of the Outsider' isn't bad, but I just wish they used these levels for some other mini-campaign and left the Outsider alone.

    I liked the experience alot, the Retro Futurism Artstlye vibe is amazing, characters are really cool.
    It's not a perfect game, but seriously: Some people are just tired of games - and they think all the industry sucks because of that, and any weird indie game made by a edgy guy in a basement is better than TripleAAA games (even made with love and not only for money) just because ... yes?
    Anything that makes slight success nowdays is constantly called overrated and bad because people wanna feel different and special.

    I agree on the idea of having multiple routes to end the game. But the prompts are still needed. There’s a video talking about the testing for this game and that people could not figure out how to beat it which makes since with the amount of information involved. That’s why the guidance was added.

    I realy loved deathloop.
    The Aesthetic was similar to We Happy Few which i liked and honestly the story although linear was enjoyable and the gunplay and other secrets were fun to explore and find out so honestly its a 9/10 from me personally

      I was more disappointed by the amount of handholding, I remember going to school thinking I finally had the solution, drawing a graph and going over the plan in my head, just to get home, complete another objective, and have the entire thing spelled out to me

    When Arkane was being told to make multiple multiplayer shooters (and they were told. online, multiplayer, room for mtx was a zenimax mandate), their founder and some of the leads left and formed a new studio. Although IIRC he characterized the problem as building "products".

      I know, right? Triple-A games these days are just sort of... there. You can buy them. Install them. Play them. And then at some point they end, or we get tired of them, and pretty soon they're just another piece of background noise. I could reminisce about the sniping camera in MDK or the satisfaction of taking down huge diver dudes in Bioshock 1, but when I think of games like Doom 2016 I'm like...
      "I think there were some zombies and demons in it. And guns. And a loooot of pre-baked 'cinematic' kills that bored me to tears."

      @@hazukichanx408 I spent an inordinate amount of time of Doom 2016 reading text logs. Apparently there are even more in Doom Eternal. Gotta interrupt the gameplay with a study session on doom deep lore.

God I hate how nudoom felt it was necessary to make doom guy some murder god with a name like a 40k background character. I preferred when he was just a man. It made his accomplishments way cooler.

      I can recall the entire halo reach campaign to the last detail.
      What happened in halo infinite? Uhh

    Arkane nails atmosphere in almost every game. Dunwall, Talos, and Blackreef all feel great to play in.
    Blackreef couldve been the best sandbox if it was interconnected and the game allowed for more player choice

    Skillup has the best review on this game. He so accurately put into words my feelings on it. I played it for hours, waiting for actual plot and story to happen. It felt like you were just getting whispers of a story, not being involved in one.

      Yeah there's definitely a lot of reading and such of the games lore that's hidden away. After going through the whole lot I have to say I do actually really like the lore but it is shame that some is just easy to miss whether it's via throwaway lines or small scraps of readable paper hidden away

      @@ITYSL Yeah I'm sure I missed more than a little of the story in notes I never found, but I'm not really interested in having to hunt down breadcrumbs of a story. I love games like Max Payne, where you're in the thick of a well told story, that isn't hitting you over the head with exposition, just keeping you interested while playing a good game at the same time.

    People jumped on the bandwagon for this game because a lot of people “just couldn’t get into” the Dishonored series or Prey. So when this came out all of those people who were so desperate to get into an Arkane game were like “oh this is great!” When in reality it’s just not very good

      This is what happens why you commodify your games “for the wider audience”. Prey and dishonored were never going to be mainstream but they were incredibly fun for those into games of their nature. But then they make 2 generic dumbed down shooters with annoying characters that exist to be relatable to Zoomers and check diversity boxes.

    Giving a game a 10/10 does not mean the game is perfect.. I’d much rather see a game like this, that tries new and fresh things and has a really fun gameplay loop, getting a 10 rather than a remake or sequel like RE4 or gow ragnarok.. whether or not u agree with it being a 10/10 is obviously up to u, I just recently bought deathloop on sale and I, for one, absolutely love it.. sure, there’s things they could’ve done better n having multiple options for killin all the visionaries in one day would’ve been nice, but I still think it’s a fantastic game as it is, and I’d love it if more studios tired new and innovative concepts like this

    at 4:00 when you're talking about Among Us style games and who made the concept, it probably actually came from the more obscure Byond platform game Space Station 13, which Among Us is a very simplified version with much smaller multiplayer lobby, faster games etc where Space Station 13 is kind of intentionally immersive and rounds can last pretty long while traitors pursue their goals, etc. Space Station 13 is about 20 yrs old, haha, but remains to this day some of the purest chaotic organic multiplayer fun I've ever had in MP games.

      It really comes from the irl game assassin/mafia. SS13 is similar to games like amogus & Town of Salem. The latter two are more focused on the antag a la mafia. SS13 doesn't actually need an antag to function as a game. Ofc, they're all similar and likely inspired by SS13, but they're not conceptually that similar. SS13 is an rpg whereas amogus is a party game.

    Deathloop in my head was indeed a good game. Im a fan of shooting people and running around, having everyone miss me and loosing me as i end up behind stabbing them.
    Your option you mentioned sounds like a great idea too, to kill everyone any way you can, and the game can still end.

      Enjoyed it especially the mobility sliding and climbing was a neat idea in a multiplayer FPS back then but it was badly balanced and objectives were a meat grinder.

    I stand by Deathloop forever. This is the best shooter I have played and one of the best games. It has great gameplay, style and humour, it requires smart gameplay and the soundtrack is unbeatable. Deathloop is definitely not for everyone. I understand why some people find it lame and boring. But for me, its 4th best game of all time and a delight to play

    I distinctly remember ruining the emding for myself, because when i first saw Julianna at the end of the long ass bridge i went huh, i wonder why it put my gun away, pulled the trigger and blew her head off from the entrance with my rifle. Game proveeded to teleport me to the platform and act like we had that conversation at the end.

      I mean Deathloop wasn't a bad game. It wasn't a 10 though either.
      There's two Arkane studios, Lyon and Austin. Austin was originally just a support studio for Lyon and they made Redfall (and Prey). Lyon made Deathloop. When Zenimax forced Austin to make a looter shooter a majority of the staff left (Including the head of the team) leaving the place understaffed. Lyon is still around.
      At this point Austin should just go back to being a support studio for Lyon and Microsoft should just let Lyon make what they want. Say what you want about Microsoft but they told Austin to take lootboxes out of Redfall and gave them more time to work on the game. MS seems very hands off, which could be a double edged sword.

      @@Gatorade69 I personally also don't understand the hate for deathloop. I actually have more hours clocked in it than dishonored 1/2 individually. I think the main reason it gets hated on is because it is different from most mainstream games, but then also too different from dishonored that the dishonored fans also don't like it. Personally I think comparing it with dishonored games is a litte moot. It's clear that due to the multiplayer they had to make compromises on size of the map as well as possible entrypoints to places. Dishonored has its replayability through the fact that I can still find new shortcuts/alternative ways in the maps. Deathloop in my opinion has always been about the multiplayer aspect, and I had a lot of fun with that. But it's no dishonored, because it's trying to be its own game. One thing I do prefer is no chaos system, I always hated that dishonored gives you all these lethal powers but then storywise flips the bird on you if you even try to use them.

      You are most likely right. Same with the tiered loot, most likely Zenimax wanted that. They wanted Redfall to be a looter shooter and wanted lootboxes in the game but Microsoft had them take them out when they acquired them.

    Arkane may make terrible shooters but the crimson painter shotgun pistol from dishonored 2 is still one of my favorite guns in any game

    8:20 yeah 'bout that if you read a certain novel Billy tried to make sure that doesn't happen by traveling back in time to warn daud (and yup that orange sky is also seen during her time travel) only to accidentaly kill him with that sword. Oh and you shoot Juliana in the Void which according to developers changes it's appearance from time to time.
    edit: and it's a father daughter story of course it plays in the dishonored universe.

    Deathloop was a 6/10 game, playing the same four boring maps for sixteen hours is horribly repetitive. I have absolutely no clue how it got so many glowing reviews, it's utterly mediocre. Whoever said "Deathloop is like if Ubisoft made a Dishonored game" absolutely nailed it. So many of the missions are poorly designed, especially the puzzles.

    Making an immersive sim takes time and dedication. Something that Arkane has been pretty great with accomplishing in the past. But now it feels as though all their games are rushed, and forced to meet deadlines that just aren't realistic. On top of that, they are restructuring their games to cater to...idk...zenimax ceo's 5 year old kid or something?

    There's a theory that the Arkane team have been deliberately screwed from Prey onwards because immersive sims cost a lot of money to make but nobody's figured out how to make them recurrent payment cash cows yet. Hence, we are now told that Arkane only make bad games and that the immersive sim genre is dead. Play hero shooters, sports games, match-3 or mobile auto RPGs. Consume, obey.

    I cant stress enough how awesome a game like Deathloops multiplayer can be. I had a blast playing the multiplayer as julianna, trapping colt and playing around with him. But, the games netcode and imbalance just didnt do it. But, since then Im yearning for a Hitman Vs Bodyguard game.

    I played Outer Wilds before playing Deathloop and it really puts all other time loop games to shame. Hell, Majora's Mask did the time loop mechanic better than Deathloop 20 years ago.

    They definitely just re-used the Dishonored melee kills. Oboe kills somebody twice by slicing their arm off and continuing into their torso.

    Even if there was t multiple solutions, it’d be nice if there were wrong things you can do still. Like you send a visionary to the wrong place and figure out that won’t work to kill all the visionaries so you have to try for the correct combo rather than having it spelled out

    I have a theory the ai has two modes. In single player they respond mapwide to noise, and have great vision cones so the game is fun. Then in multi-player mode they dumb the ai down to balance Juliana and the ai does nothing but run in circles and instantly die:
    Tested in the bunker - single player fire a shotgun shot and generator instantly goes nuclear as security is alerted. Multi-player opponent clears a room with the shotgun nothing happens. It's like a different game entirely.

      I saw this too on the sniper map, usually once the visionary is alerted he instantly starts sniping anything map wide.
      Multi-player mode I'm standing next to him and the opponent runs up calm as day and kills us both.
      I didn't even understand what I was seeing. It was like a different game.

      It's not uncommon in Multi-player that the opponent will go 10 minuites without ever being seen by ai.
      In single player you literally start snapping necks the minuite you leave the gate before you get to higher ground...cuz sight cones working as intended you actually have to clear the content properly.

      I honestly think if Arkane had a little more faith in its players that they could handle intelligent opponents and intelligent AI "at the same time" that this game might of had some legs. Like splintercell head to head.

    In all seriousness though, the "professional" review scores aren't a reflection of the game itself but of the time the game came out. So many gaming journalists were afraid to give it anything less than a 10 simply because it had a black protagonist. The game is the definition of mid. Not great, not horrible but definitely playable.

    Never ever remove a mechanic just because its implementation didn't work out. Always do your best to iterate. Otherwise that's how you end up with Ubisoft games that completely reinvent the wheel every four years

    I got bored to tears pretty early on in this game. I think something about opening the menus and seeing weapon rarities and unlocking RNG charms just absolutely nose dived my interest in the game and I couldn't last much longer after that. It was just a much worse dishonored at that point.
