In the Terminator Dawn Of Fate game you see an HK Tank being assembled in a factory. The game also includes the HK Centurion or Spider Tank which was in the concept art for T2 but was dropped because it was too difficult to animate. Also in the game are the Skynet Guardians , four robots like huge dogs which were built by Norad to maintain and protect Skynet. Part of the concept art for T2 was the HK Silverfish, based on the insect of the same name.
A first person shooter that is a bit like Far Cry blood dragon where you are John Connor and there is a day/night cycle only you have to come out at night
@@AurelionSass that game has a better story than any of the movies after T2. That game also should have been made as the war movie us Terminator fans have wanted
There's another possibility for that stationary/turreted HK tank in Terminator Salvation, perhaps it started out as a fully functional tank but took too much damage and was thus made to perform as a turret either until it could be repaired or Skynet didn't want to scrap it until it was a total loss.
Could also be that as the Resistance inflicting more damage on the supply lines and assembly plants, SkyNet had to rely on more older and more numerous models and variants for in-depth defense and attack missions. More advanced models would take longer to create and roll out and you would need to use (and recycle) older units to fill the gap left because time and resources spend on more powerful units. :)
One of my favorite things about the HK tank and gunship was the sound, look, and action of its plasma weapons. They sounded like they were literally ripping the air around them and the purplish, blue-white of the plasma bolts were beautiful to behold.
In the recent game Terminator Resistance, the HK Tank has a weakness which is the power supply that is in its back, and with the rocket launcher you can shoot it there and reposition or shoot it’s head to stun it and then shoot the back
I always loved the sheer sense of immensity of the HK Tank, it's almost indomitable power and weight. That image of the tracks grinding human bones to dust stuck with me as a kid, and is still powerful to this day. When it catches sight of that other fighter with Reese, and instantly obliterates her, it struck such fear into me that you just need to make one mistake and be seen, and these things will wipe you out without hesitation. The one thing that I'd like to know more about, regarding the tank and the Aerial HKs is, how intelligent are they? Are their CPU brains like that of a Terminator, do they "think", strategise, communicate with each other? Or are they simpler, more akin to sentry guns with a friend-foe target recognition system?
H-K tanks and Aerials, specifically the ones in the first and second movies (and some of the books and comics) can sometimes think for themselves when their "autonomous mode" is active, but Skynet rarely set them to that mode for the same reason as Terminators of the 800 series and up being set to "read only," it doesn't want them to do a lot of thinking. other than that, they're not to bright. usually, they're set to patrol an area, search and destroy, or defend a location. pretty much like worker bees, ants or hornets. interesting fact about the Aerial H-Ks of the first and second movies: they're design is based on hornets, they even have insectoid legs for when they need to land. though it was never shown in the movies, it was mentioned in the first Terminator book. H-K tanks can also access satellites for additional information of an area, or use them to detect Resistance bases and movements. they are built to have some communication with other units and even Skynet itself, being able to send terrain and targeting data to other H-K tanks, Aerials, and most Terminator models of the 600s series and up. the sensors of an H-K tank are razor sharp, but having searchlights in addition to those sensors proved to be a real problem for the Resistance. in the original timeline (and other timelines) the more advanced H-K units developed as the war neared its end would be able to link with each other as a hive mind. some H-K units, such as the Centurion, a fast moving four legged gun platform capable of raising or lowering its body, was a supercomputer itself. it moved around the battlefield, rising over terrain or buildings to fire at targets before moving to another location to fire again, or digging its legs into the ground and serving as a sentry platform.
It is fine good sir. We all have to deal with lack of sleep sooner or later. The reason I remember is that I thought she was kind of cute, even wearing the grime and combat togs. LOL

I don't know why skynet didn't stay with regular ammunition. If it didn't stick with plasma based munitions then humans will have had a problem dealing with regular humanoid terminators. After all bullets can only hurt metal so much unlike plasma hot weapons.
something to check out, is the fan created anime style video of batman vs skynet. You would enjoy the well done effort and attention to detail on the engineering aspects through out. keep up the good work
In Terminator 3 the Redemption video game, the HK tank had been completely stream lined and retro fitted. Instead of a head and body on just one end of the tank, the body was placed dead center between the four treads on the frame of the tank. The head was removed, the body was made bigger and in the center instead of 2 praying mantis like arms, a massive plasma canon was added. So it had the two arms with plasma guns but a huge main canon that fired a huge single plasma blast. You even get to take control of one and its a great vehicle to kill other machines with.
Who's Johnny? She said and smiled in a special way. You just know they are going to butcher that in a remake someday. Chappie kinda already did though.
ShannysDad I did say kinda, it did have its charms I will admit. I still say it's gonna be sjwonny 5 for the reboot though. No Indians from Pittsburgh jokes that's for sure. Newton Crosby PHD will be a woman and Stephanie will probably be a transsexual, vegan, black male. lol
They also had the blue and red flashing lights which at the time when I was kid made me think they were Skynet’s twisted thinking on making them resemble police vehicles but designed to hunt down humans. Also, I always thought Kyle Reese’s canister explosive got run over and therefore never went off, and it was the female soldier at his side who throw her canister explosive in the right place but got spotted and killed, sacrificing her life to destroy the HK tank. It made me think that was a way for the movie to show the strong female aspect that we saw later in the end with Sarah Connor, which made you respect those female characters as they were selfless, courageous and sacrificial.
I think they are meant to be the power cores from scavenged terminator units. That's been my head Canon since T3 anyway. It does make for a very effective weapon in any case.
Death By Design Graphics Those power cores would result in a small nuclear mushroom cloud explosion when detonated, but you could argue that the resistance had managed to reverse-engineer it into a powerful anti-HK tank explosive.
Well the explosion would act a little differently if it's chewing through several meters of metal in the process. I think both exploded though because there was two different detonation's from what I remember. And yes the resistance does do a lot of reverse engineering of skynet technology for obvious reasons.
Death By Design Graphics Either way, I think they did an impressive job with the future war flashback scenes in T1. They sure knew how to make good movies back then.
That we can both agree on! T1 and T2 for the win and I will give a nod to salvation for at least starting the future war scenario that we've all been waiting for but never followed up on.
The HK turret idea makes sense as it would save space and mean fixed point defences. Assuming skynet has had a chance to copy the Internet it's just recycling the tank turret bunker strategy
I wouldn't say it's vaguely humanoid, I'd say it's more like Johnny 5's pissed off big brother. "No disassemble my metallic ass! I'm killing me some HuMans!" LOL
In the terminator salvation arcade game. These guys were bosses. The boss of the first chapter. And one of the two bosses in the final part of chapter 2
I remember that the HK Tank has a single-barrel Plasma Cannon on one of the Arm that's powerful enough to obliterate a Human Body into oblivion at costs of lowering the Rapid Fire. If both Arms are Twin-Barrel Plasma Cannons, it only pierces a Human Body without obliterating it with Rapid Fire at costs of Firepower, as if it straining the Reactor if Two Arms are only Rapid Fire Twin-barrel cannons.
When Number 5 from Short Circuit REALLY goes rogue. I can hear it now. Right before the HKT blows a resistance soldier away. It says “Your mother was a snowblower.” 🤣
Have you even thought about diving into the Warhammer universe? It would suit the theme of your channel so much and theres endless amounts of incredibly lore.
You know, if Skynet is a super-intellgent AI, you would think it would know it would know you don't send armored vehicles into built up areas without infantry support (endoskeletons). I've defeated thermal imagers with a cardboard box, when I was working as a badguy in the nuclear security industry. It worked, but the plexiglass foldup contraption I built worked better. Then we built one that was camo painted to cover us in the visible light spectrum also, with a little viewport with a coat of matte clear-coat. So it was non-reflective. Then we made one with insulated handles, so we wouldn't heat it up with our hands, or have our fingers visible on thermal. After that one of my guys suggested carrying it in one of those nylon collapsing coolers, so it wouldn't differ from the background thermal signature. Next, we scalloped the edges and added fake plant stuff from an arts and crafts store. And it worked a trick. It was so effective we were ordered to stop using it. Which burned my butt, after how much time and effort we put into developing it. But as adversaries, we honed those good guys to a razor's edge. And by the time we had a graded 3-year evaluation from the Feds, we stopped the national adversary team cold. I think the only drill they actually breached the perimeter, the one dude made it, maybe, 15 yds, before he got smoke-checked. Everybody else was "dead" outside the wire. I did figureout, the math one time, and for about a 23 month period, something like 87% of drill-kills were adversaries playing bad guys vs adversaries playing good-guys. I was team commander by then, so I told my adversaries, "push out info to anyone willing to listen". Myself and my XO actually had the privilege of training with recently retired Delta guys, and we passed that info down to the regular officers who wanted to learn. I established a personal fund, out of my own pocket. "Best pistol score, best rifle score, best night fire score, best combat course score, etc., you get a $200 gift card. Charlie team's scores went through the roof. Even my slackers , who were like, "I won't win anyway, so why bother trying," gave it the old college try, and their scores improved dramatically. A little bit of leadership, a little positive reinforcement, and you can work wonders.
I love how the hunter killer tank in the hunter killer both have the same headpiece 👍. Fun fact did you know that even though the hunter killer's main head looks straight the guns are still looking at the Target.
I think this thing from Salvation was just a AA turret with four guns, however that big tank from concept art looks like updated and upscaled T-1 (there is/was supposed to be one in movie, they even made toy IIRC)
Didn't we see HK tank treads in the very first Terminator Salvation trailer? I remember cause seeing those treads got me so hyped and seemed like it was actually going to be like James Cameron's future war.
True. If you have dozens of variants to produce at the same time, you need different kinds of factories to produce different parts for a specific unit, not to mention specialized assembly lines. If you follow a simple army composition, you can have multiple factories creating the same or similar "troops/units" and adapt a simple basic chassis with an infinite number of combinations for specialized tasks; which means outnumbering and outgunning your opponent in the intermediate or long term future by simply flooding any battlefield with a never ending flood of reinforcements.
Speaking of the T1's At NAU we have these robots that deliver food and drinks. They have the exact same color scheme as the T1's and even somewhat resemble a smaller version of them without the head and the guns... T1's are coming!
a fixed position HK Tank (should be called a HK turret IMHO) would be more cost effective without having to give it a drive train, batteries/dedicated power generator . Skynet could possibly produce up to 3 turret models for the same resource cost of one HK tank. Look at modern tanks, most of the tank is the hull, not the turret.
I guess I am the only person in the world that liked Terminator 3 so it would be selfish of me to ask you to speak on it I particularly liked those killing machines they had in the movie you know the ones that the Terminator had programmed just kill everything in sight they would like Roland tanks rolling tanks and I found the ending you be so much satisfying however I guess the majority rules but if you ever care to be different speak on Terminator 3
In the first movie, during the future war, right before Reese and his team heads into the underground bunker you can see at least 2 or 3 destroyed HK Tanks around the battlefield, almost blending in with the ruined buildings.
What's the deal with those resistance soldier aiming at the HK tank in T2's opening, they have to know that a mere handheld plasma rifle was not going dent that heavy armor. What made this tank so vulnerable is it's large size, there's just too much dead zones, and it doesn't seem to detect sounds like footsteps or heartbeat. Even though it can see in infrared but only through those 2 large searchlights, and while the torso can rotate 360 degrees it's forward facing most of the time. Too bad those hidden T-800 compartments were never shown on screen (except in the T2 arcade game) then again in the future T-800s were so easy to destroy with plasma weapons it might as well be a man
I didn't really think much about it when I was younger... But later on there were a few things bothered me about the various HK models... Why do they all have anti-collision strobes and searchlights? Kyle Reese states they hunt with infrared... So they would have no use for visible spectrum searchlights. Are the HK's independent machines? Or does SkyNet control them all remotely? If they are controlled remotely, it would stand to reason that any computer capable of billions of computations per second would know the exact location and status of every HK... No need for anti-collision strobes then. If the HK's are independent then there is still no need for anti-collision strobes... They "see" with infrared. Their heat signatures should be plainly visible to each other... No flashing strobes are necessary. A computer, even a self-aware one, would operate and make decisions based on probabilities and efficiency... It would not add extra equipment where it would serve no useful purpose. No anti-collision strobes or searchlights would be added to machines that sense in the IR spectrum. I know... I put way too much thought into this. Its just a movie. But I think it's a sensible thing to ask.
After their experience with urban battles, the Russians made their BMPT "Terminator", which had exactly the ability that tanks from the films are lacking: to engage targets on the rooftops. I guess, the hk tanks are easy targets when there're buildings around.
Know you’re probably planning on doing the HK aerial, but please do one on the spider like HK centurion... Would prefer the Jim Cameron version as opposed to the Genisys one. And also the HK Silverfish & HK Bomber
Idl0021 I hope he also covers the HK Spider that appears in Dawn of Fate and the two bi pedal machines that appear in Terminator 3 the Redemption, the FK Reaper and FK Titan.

Looks like "Johnny 5" got some upgrades
well wouldnt you like to be a pepper too? clearly once you drink a pepper you get duel plasmas lmao
It was a little rocky in places but I'm starting to think that The Sarah Connor Chronicles was the best Terminator show so far.
Probably because it’s the literal only show.
It looks like WALL-E after he bulked up and decided to go on a bloodthirsty rampage.
I still want an open world terminator game :(
With a mechanic like in ME3 where if you make too much noise the machines detect you they'll come a-hunting!
A first person shooter that is a bit like Far Cry blood dragon where you are John Connor and there is a day/night cycle only you have to come out at night
Well, Terminator Resistance is out. While it may only be a semi-open world game, it's the best we have so far :P
@@AurelionSass that game has a better story than any of the movies after T2. That game also should have been made as the war movie us Terminator fans have wanted
@@AurelionSass Eh close enough
I always wanted a HK tank model kit
I admire your videos on this channel. Keep them coming! I watched every single one of them. Sadly, we will never get to see the original future war.
Anyone remember fighting these things in the sega game?!
Grenade spam for days 😂
They're pretty moronic I think
@@cindervee478 Kyle Reese said in the first film "At night the HKs use infrared, but they ain't too bright." so you'd be correct.
Um...Mr. H....the soldier killed by the HK in Kyle's flashback wasn't a he! Her name was Jean Malahni and she was Linda Hamilton's stunt double.
Lack of sleep! You are correct good sir
It is fine good sir. We all have to deal with lack of sleep sooner or later.
The reason I remember is that I thought she was kind of cute, even wearing the grime and combat togs. LOL
I mean, who doesn't like a chick with a plasma rifle in the 40W range. LOL
She always reminded me of "Pvt. Vasquez" the bad-ass chick with the space marines in the original "Alien"
In WWII tank turrets were used in fixed positions as well. I wonder if this was an inspiration for the HK being mounted in such a way.
Wasn't that resistance soldier actually female in the original terminator?
Yup. Was tired
@@MrHReviews if u played the game you can see rivers watching over Reese and his partner throwing the grenades at the hk tank the scene from the first terminator film
You would enjoy the well done effort and attention to detail on the engineering aspects through out. keep up the good work
Best channel to learn about Terminator and all of Skynet's units
In Terminator 3 the Redemption video game, the HK tank had been completely stream lined and retro fitted. Instead of a head and body on just one end of the tank, the body was placed dead center between the four treads on the frame of the tank. The head was removed, the body was made bigger and in the center instead of 2 praying mantis like arms, a massive plasma canon was added. So it had the two arms with plasma guns but a huge main canon that fired a huge single plasma blast. You even get to take control of one and its a great vehicle to kill other machines with.
Alien, predator and Terminator.....😎👍love it! Great channel buddy. Dank je wel.
Johnny 5's Evil cousin.
Of maybe a future descendant...hmmmm🤔
Who's Johnny? She said and smiled in a special way.
You just know they are going to butcher that in a remake someday. Chappie kinda already did though.
@@DeathBYDesign666 chappie wasn't the worst thing ever...lol
T1 and T2 for the win and I will give a nod to salvation for at least starting the future war scenario that we've all been waiting for but never followed up on.
it always looked like a giant chrome praying mantis to me
It’s the tog 2 British tank
The Salvation arcade game HK Tank is my favorite HK Tank design ngl
Remember the episode of tmnt with the robot macc ...i love the smell of gun smoke in the morning.....dude looks just like a mini hk tank
When Number 5 from Short Circuit REALLY goes rogue.
I can hear it now. Right before the HKT blows a resistance soldier away. It says “Your mother was a snowblower.” 🤣
This ground tank and the flying hk scared me as a kid
It's basically WALL-E when he transforms into a giant military robot.
Have you even thought about diving into the Warhammer universe? It would suit the theme of your channel so much and theres endless amounts of incredibly lore.
I've done some 40k videos
@@MrHReviews Turns out I'm blind and forgetful, I think they were some of the first videos that got me into your channel.. my bad.
In T2 there were unused storyboards with an advanced HK tank that had a 4 legged chassis and greater intelligence
There are several comments about Johnny Five from Short Circuit. Guess you got your next video idea.
Love the video Mr. H!!!!!!
I love how the hunter killer tank in the hunter killer both have the same headpiece 👍. Fun fact did you know that even though the hunter killer's main head looks straight the guns are still looking at the Target.
The resistance soldier with Kyle Reese that got obliterated in T1 by the HK was actually a woman. She was actually pretty hot lol.
I think this thing from Salvation was just a AA turret with four guns, however that big tank from concept art looks like updated and upscaled T-1 (there is/was supposed to be one in movie, they even made toy IIRC)
This thing reminded me of a robot in a movie called Short Circuit. It will always look like a massive version of Johnny 5 for me.
When the lawn needs mowing...
HK Tank: It's "Human Killing" time!
Me: This is what "HK" truely stands for...
Didn't we see HK tank treads in the very first Terminator Salvation trailer? I remember cause seeing those treads got me so hyped and seemed like it was actually going to be like James Cameron's future war.
looks like the HK tank could have different cannon turret modules on both its back and front but it was never shown
a pair of these escorted by a pack of endoskeletons is a potent combination
Im guessing that there will be an HK tank in one of the boss battles in the game Terminator Resistance. Can't wait to play that game.
I'd say as far as efficciancy it makes sense to mass produce the top of the HK and use it both on the tank models and as stationary turrets.
I love that in the Sarah Connor Chronicles, the call them Ogres! At least ONE of the writers HAD to be a gamer!!!
Using for a short story been back of my mind several years.
I just realized that the harvester from Salvation has a similar torso design
And then they brought us the collector, bike, water and super-duper terminators with blue tooth, coffee machines and a lot of bling bling.
cool, i was waiting for this
Speaking of the T1's
At NAU we have these robots that deliver food and drinks.
Mr H can you please cover the many Iterations of the HK aerials ?
I guess I am the only person in the world that liked Terminator 3 so it would be selfish of me to ask you to speak on it I particularly liked those killing machines they had in the movie you know the ones that the Terminator had programmed just kill everything in sight they would like Roland tanks rolling tanks and I found the ending you be so much satisfying however I guess the majority rules but if you ever care to be different speak on Terminator 3
A futuristic TIGER Tank
In the first movie, during the future war, right before Reese and his team heads into the underground bunker you can see at least 2 or 3 destroyed HK Tanks around the battlefield, almost blending in with the ruined buildings.
It's probably serving as either camouflaged cover for defenses, sentry towers or natural barricades against other HK tanks.
This was in my nightmares as a kid
What's the deal with those resistance soldier aiming at the HK tank in T2's opening, they have to know that a mere handheld plasma rifle was not going dent that heavy armor. What made this tank so vulnerable is it's large size, there's just too much dead zones, and it doesn't seem to detect sounds like footsteps or heartbeat. Even though it can see in infrared but only through those 2 large searchlights, and while the torso can rotate 360 degrees it's forward facing most of the time. Too bad those hidden T-800 compartments were never shown on screen (except in the T2 arcade game) then again in the future T-800s were so easy to destroy with plasma weapons it might as well be a man
What are the arms for on the front of the original HK tank
It took Perry and another soldier who specializes in demolition to take it out in dawn of fate
Now I want to play T2: The Arcade Game...look what you have done. Though Terminator on the Sega MegaCD was better.
@@Godzillafan1980 game is the stuff of legend. I actually still have the cart for Robocop VS. The Terminator. Feels good playing on actual hardware.
Idea for that tank design probably came form the first James Cameron movie 'xenogenesis'.

TH-cam: Ok... we’ll put more shorter commercials.
I don't know that I agree that near future or future-possible sci-fi is the truest form of science fiction.
The problem with far future or alternative future scifi is it can kind of drift so far away from scifi that it barely resembles scifi anymore - it becomes more like a hybrid of other genres with technological elements, like the classic later Planet of the Apes films.
Skynet is at it's best when using a verity of models. Even tho there is only the HK and T series. The HK line is more flexible out of the two.
Up to a time, I was under the impression that the HKs were the aerial machines as shown in the first film.
