2:40 - Jim McDonald was such a Jekyll & Hyde character. Minus the drink and the insane levels of jealousy, he was mildly amusing and likeable. But with alcohol and his obsessive paranoia and jealousy he just became a monster. To me, he was a man not suited to marriage (to anyone) and he also made ex-military men look bad.
He could be witty and amusing, but so often he was a second away from an angry rant and on the verge of punching someone or actually punching someone. Liz was forever trying to pacify him before giving up and losing her temper too. Beverly Callard looked quite drained a lot of the time, I'm not sure whether she was in character or exasperated from playing her character.
The Liz and Jim storyline is ridiculous. Don't know why the writers did that but this is a soap so need drama. When a relationship has escalated to physical abuse it's time to end it. Even before with verbal/mental abuse before it becomes physical.
Jim finally showed the public the real animal he is. We all knew that animal existed since he nearly beat the teenage burglar to death. (He admitted he went too far and quit his job for fear he might kill someone.). Obviously he has no control.
On the one hand, absolutely. But then she goes and blurts out gossip as if she's still super naive, which she isn't. It altogether strains her character's credibility.
I have trouble appreciating anything remotely positive or redeeming about the Jim McDonald character after the 2018 storyline involving his supposed dead infant daughter "resurrection" A person would have to be a sociopath to do what he did to Liz.
Seems the writers completely forgot who Jim McDonald was when they brought him back in 2007 and just started writing him as the generic "villain" character
What's even sadder is that the boys are behaving like their mum has done something wrong when they are so scared of him - he once belted Steve - they left home at the first available opportunity.
Sometimes I don't understand these storie lines. Andy must have been about 1 years old when Liz was fooling around with Jim's friend but now he's using it against her and making it sound like it happened yesterday. Sheesh. And he's on his father's side, claiming he had provocation. There is never ever provocation to hit a woman, you just don't do it.
Well, Jim did explain it (the 1st affair) as the start to his permanent suspicion of Liz. Perhaps Andy sided with his dad on that, having Steve trying to steal all his gfs and watching Des do the same. Doesn't make hitting Liz ok, but justifies Jim's jealousy and distance from the family.

Same here. You have to wonder why her very first act after Jim hit her was to apply make-up to emphasize the bruises. Who does that? No, of course she didn't deserve Jim's fist, but this speaks to her manipulative character that's been in play for years. She's far from innocent in how the marriage has wound up where it has. And now, as if that's not bad enough, she goes straight back to Des to see if they can pick up their relationship (and presumably take it much further) now that she's decided to divorce Jim. She would happily do this without any thought for her sons or anyone else! Then, after Des has washed his hands of her, and Sean Skinner offers her a job, she has the audacity to act offended that the "boys club" is demeaning her...when she literally offered herself to Des. Honestly, I find it impossible to feel sorry for her.
I cannot think why they should have the actor who is to play Diane in Emmerdale as Fiona's mother. I would have made more sense to have Angela Bruce to play Fiona's mother.
I can remember watching the Liz-Jim domestic violence storyline at the time, and not thinking too much about it, because I'd never experience anything similar myself. This is one of the reasons abused women DON'T report things, because they are afraid of not being believed. Why did Corrie wish to highlight this? It's quite uncomfortable viewing.

i HATE judy malett, i fast forward all of her scenes
God I can't be doing with Andy's sulking gob much longer.
It's not rite that Jim hit Liz but a black eye is nowhere near as hurtful as someone who u love break-in ur heart
I think getting a black eye is probably worse....having had one and my heart broken.
Yes, your right,
They're both manipulative weirdos but Jim is an intimidating and bullying crackpot.
Read yr comment yr not for real a black eye is not as bad domestic violence is disgusting
She doesn't love him, she's stuck with him. 🤔
For goodness sake get rid of jim and liz deserved all she gets dressing like she's about 19
She's got a good figure for a lady of 40,
Liz should have been cast as a model. Not only her long legs, but her other features are all super model material. Maybe it's just that models were required to be under 25 back then and maybe now too?
If she had what it took to be a super model, she'd be in coronation street for a whole 5 minutes before she left, NEVER to return. 😂
She was no looker when she was younger. 😊
This surely is sarcasm?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
