I just love the chemistry of the GBeast crew on when they're all on one quicklook.
Devolver digital is the adult swim of video games.
Piakschios a component devolver digital parody.
I like how everyone is instantly on board with what this game is doing. Best opening credits I’ve seen in awhile.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, looks awesome and I had no idea it even existed.
That whole intro is stroooong
And instantly bought! Saul Bass inspiration always gets me, like it did with Jazzpunk.
Calling it now 2019 best styyyyyyllllllle.
What does this even meaaannnnn?
Primate Miami
I tried to play Hotline Miami. At the beginning the game wants me to kill some random homeless guy. Never progressed past that point... What is the point of including stuff like that in your game? You know you will turn some people off and it is not a benefit for those that are not turned off.
@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Don't worry bud, if that stopped you, you wouldn't have been a fan of the game anyway. Sorry to hear it, but to each their own!
@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Technically you beat the game at its own game. The whole plot is this surreal introspection asking "do you like hurting people?". By refusing to kill based only on anonymous instructions, you defied the game's expectations.
@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Oh it's a dirty, awful game. The visuals are nauseating, the music is disorienting, the character portraits are all *hideous* and everyone's doing terrible shit the entire time. Thing is, the game wants you to feel bad while playing it. Maybe not, like, purely morally bad in a way that makes you want to stop playing it, but that was definitely in the back of the designer's head the whole time. If you didn't actually play it, you also wouldn't know that, after the last kill in every level, the music stops abruptly and the game forces you to walk back through the entire stage, back out to your car, while this horrendous droning noise fills your head as you jog past the dozens and dozens of brutally murdered bodies and entire floors covered in blood that you are solely responsible for. After every stage. And after the first proper mission, the main character takes a detour into an alley to throw up.
In that sense, it's one of the most realistically violent games I've ever played. It definitely glorifies the mechanics of its violence, but it never stops trying to make you think twice about what is actually happening, behind the thrill of it all. It's all bad shit.
Also, TIMELY HOTLINE MIAMI SPOILERS BELOW????????????
Turns out you're not even playing as the hero of the story. Big surprise... Your character did not think twice, either, and you get to see what happened as a result of that, including the tutorial. So, yeah, that's very much the point of the whole game.
30 Flights of Shoving, Alex, it was right there!
About 10 minutes into this quick look, I started downloading it to my Switch.
I am so glad Dan mentioned Die Hard trilogy. That immediately came to mind when playing the High Rise level
Dan: "I'd take this concept in every art style"
Sure, Dan. I bet you never even played Rorie's Game of the Century, Mr. Shifty.
Been looking forward to this for a while, good to hear it holds up after that first impression
The Hulk has a dumb backstory element about being a supergenius who does ultra-advanced math in his head so that all the damage he does doesn't actually hurt anyone, like punching buildings only in specific places so that the rubble doesn't fall on anyone. I'm not sure if that's canon anymore, but it was at some point and I hate it.
Is that something they had to do to get a round the comics code authority back in the day.
Nope it was introduced in the past decade or so.
The reality of the Hulk as of the older books, he wants to be left alone and goes to great lengths to be left alone because he doesn't want to destroy everything. But people in stories are stupid and like to poke a bear with a short stick and there you go.
Best Hulk stuff is the Planet Hulk comic, which the Thor Ragnarok movie cribbed a little bit. He's on a planet and gets to murder everyone he wants in arena combat and people love him for it. There's more to it but that's where it starts.
Joe Rogan is somewhere freaking out
Well, that's a hell of an opening. Anddd I'm buying this game. That's all I needed to see.
“Ape Escape” was already taken, huh?
If this doesn't end up on the top 10 best games list this year, then we're in for a real hell of a year.
Art by Bennett Foddy? How does he get attached to all these things?
I don't know, maybe you should just...
get over it.
Probably because of hard work and lack of extreme mental illness (qwop withstanding :p)
Gabe, the main designer, was originally one of Bennett's students at NYU. I remember playtesting this game back when it was just a class project there
Watch out Mario! He's coming for YOU!
This gives me a real Cowboy Bebop feel.
I finished Ape Out this morning. The style is incredible. That said, it lasted an hour and a half and I was tired of the gameplay about halfway through. That's reflected in the price, but I was really hoping for it to be more fun to play. I found the level design to be frustrating pretty often as you're heavily disincentivized from carrying enemies around (makes you REALLY slow, and they don't take any more than 1-3 shots) which would help a lot when you turn a corner and find 8 enemies all aiming at you and no cover between them and you. Your only real options when this happens are: Walk all the way around them, or wait for them to come up to you and take them out as they turn the corner. Neither of these are fun ways to solve the problem, and this kind of situation I found happened a lot. It also seems like a symptom of the random generation. So is it worth the $15? Maybe. The only real variation on the gameplay comes with new enemy types, so don't expect anything more than what you've seen (aside from the style of course). It's certainly not worth anything more than $15 in my opinion.
End of Side A, but also a hole in the film to connotate the end of a reel.
wow! jazz and killing dudes, my two fav things. real talk thats some awesome drumming
It reminds me of a game Bart Simpson would play. I like that. Bummed that I have to wait until Friday.
When is this game out?
This looks fucking rad, holy shit
Oh hey it's that game from all the AGDQ ads
Jon Telles haha, whoops. Edited it now
All the presentation is very nice but the gameplay seems paper thin. Maybe it just feels good and that's what keeps your interest. At the very very beginning I was hoping this game would be a bit like Inside where instead of solving puzzles you'd wreck and rampage through the world.
Ok, I need to play this apparently
Gorgeous style, but not a game I think I'd enjoy otherwise.
I may be sold on this!
Fuuuuuck this looks good 👌😊😊 😊
Did... did Dan namecheck Wes Anderson? His whole thing really is just an act, isn't it?
He was a film major, technically?
Dan is very quick at making associations, for better or worse. He also has a fairly impressive repository of knowledge to pull from, that isn't necessarily logically or systematically organized or acquired, but does exist. It's not ALL an act. He is not an idiot. But also, sometimes he is legitimately an idiot.
An act because he namechecked one of the most famous and easily identifiable directors in the world?
Hotline Safari
Imagine this style in a game where it made a lick of sense and had a connection to the action. The game is only noteworthy because of the style, there's nothing else to it.
2 minutes in and that very certain Devolver Digital stink exudes from the game. That company knows how to give off those weirdo eccentric vibes well, even with their less over-the-top products.
dats sum creative shit right derr
quick*
Best sttyyyyyylllllleeee 2019
I think I found one video where Vinny is an annoying one. Leave your headcanon out of it! People are the monsters here! Go Ape!
Great game, violence I can get behind.
lol just filter out everyone else's comments and listen to Dan
