We actually did end up hearing the full story of what happened from one of the developers. They had a full trilogy planned. The problem was that the publisher wouldn't advertise their game, and like you said, it was released right after big competition. The publisher basically shot it in the leg before it even entered the race, and it didn't sell enough for them to fund a sequel. The game was also rushed out the door, the deadlines were pushed up on the developers and they couldn't negotiate more time. All I have is praise for this game. Extremely unique feel, hilarious writing, great voice acting, great music, huge amount of weapons to mix things up, enemies that lose limbs and limbs that get dislocated and flail and shoot in random directions when shot (something not seen today let alone back then), upgradeable weapons, simple yet effective level design that maximizes fun and fighting, huge number of levels, vehicles, the extremely unique ability to hack into certain enemies with what my friends and i call the "toothpaste gun", boss fights, vehicle levels, grenades that effect enemies differently, and enough difficulty that i doesnt feel like a kids game. I literally cannot recommend this game enough and its easy to pick up for less than $5. It is super fun, yeah not a great story, but if you want a game for endless hours of fun and badass gameplay pick this up.
Never thought this game got the recognition it deserved. Picked it up randomly at movie gallery and fell in love. This was my intro to shooters and I still think to this day it did a damn good job especially for the time period. I only ever got to play the multiplayer with my little cousin, I can only imagine how great that was with 3/4 players
yeah it was great with 4 players and once you collected all the chips you got to play a map where one guy gets to play as the final boss of the game and it was completely unfair to the other 3. Fun times
Dude I loved this game, the floppy limbs were so hilarious, and watching one of the grunts run around in circles with his entire body flopping randomly was the funniest thing ever. Really challenging in a fun way for the most part. However, the rivet gun, the sniper kind of weapon, had a hidden feature when you upgraded it to max level, hold down the trigger to charge up and explode the shot. I played through the entire game for a LONG time, before randomly figuring it out one time while screwing around. The description TELLS YOU about it, but doesn't say how to do it, and I couldn't work it out so I always assumed it was just flavour text. Also some of the secret chips were hard as balls to find.
also with mining lazer level 2 and 3 if you partially hold the trigger, a bit less than halfway, it charges up with a short range shotgun burst. i also figured that and every other obscure trick in the game out by myself, as theyre not explained in game. the only secret chips i never found til i looked them up years later were the ones found by moving objects with the loader (a random rock on Clean Up for example)
I think the custom textures are what's causing the frame hitches. I disabled them and that got rid of all the frame hitches except a few at the beginning of a level. I only tested this on one level, though.
Would be good to see if that is the case, I might consider this on my first time play. Maybe try out the vanilla game for a bit then use the remapping project on a new save to see how it compares.
@@someguy4667 as long as you set the textures to prefetch and cache into RAM, they won't cause any slowdown. Slowdown can also be caused by shader compilation, could play around with those settings too.
@@Jake_Eyes Advanced graphics settings. "Prefetch Custom Textures" will store them all in RAM so they don't have to load from the hard drive at the moment the game needs them. Depending on how large and how many textures there are, you may not have enough RAM, but for this it's probably fine.
Most GameCube games are only a few gb, so you should be able to preload the whole game in ram, even uncompressed if you have 16gb of ram (maybe even 8gb would work).
I don't know if anyone mentioned this already but the antenna on Glitch's back can be used to aim the grenade slingshot which makes the junkboss much simpler. Cryptic still, but highly intuitive once you realize it.

So no, you don't _have_ to use the tether, even after you die you get placed into the room to change if you desire. Not that it makes it a whole lot easier, but it does mean that you have more than one way to go about it. Also, the shields _do not_ prevent you from possessing them. The only real way to tell if you can't tether one of them is by looking for the pink port- I think that it shows you a red circle with a slash as well, but it's easier to just look for the dot. I'm sure that not knowing that you can still possess even when a shield is in play might make things harder, maybe. So there's that. I don’t remember almost anything about this game except for the art style and graphics which stuck with me for the past ~15 years. This game is 2000s incarnate, complete with a Patrick Warburton character, that man practically voiced my entire childhood. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Totally Not Sseth.
When I was 13, I along with two friends had this game on Gamecube. Our entire lives essentially revolved around Metal Arms and Time Splitters that entire school year. Some of my lifetime best memories were when we would sleepover at each other's house and play video games nonstop for an entire weekend. I just finished watching all your Homeworld reviews and I did not expect to see you cover this video on this channel. This was a very pleasant surprise and a nice trip down memory lane.
I must have been right around 13 when this game came out also. (Born in 91). I wish I knew other people who were into it. I remember being so confused how no one else had the game because I loved it back then, and for the time, the multiplayer was incredible.
For me, part of the fun was dying over and over trying to find the most optimal method to clearing a section. At one point I did a stealth playthrough. Works better in some places than others, but still fun.
Honestly I love running gags, and this one in particular. It's so small that a lot of people won't catch it or care but for those who do it's always a laugh.
Yes. What a good way to start my Monday morning. Can't wait for your Total War: Warhammer and 40k reviews. Hope your health is getting better and better. Thanks for the videos.
I'm glad the experimental loony bots bit was the first joke you played during that highlight reel of the humor. That was my favorite one in the game. It was nice revisiting this title after so many years, thanks for keeping its memory alive!
When I was living on my own for the frist time, I once had a stomach flu. I was lucky in that I lived across from a grocer/convenience store. I was miserable but I focused on playing this game the whole way through. It was a pleasant surprise (as can be in that state) on how good the dialogue and overall gameplay was. The challenge, destruction and charm kept me concentrated on my want to beat the game over my ailment.
I remember being pretty young and playing the demo mission where you’d see the big bot standing on a perch down the street . I was obsessed as a kid and came back and played it again when I was like 13 . Very underrated game , I enjoyed it for what it was .
To describe this game I'd say 'fizzled potential', loved the dynamic damage and limb flailing and there's plenty of dark themes to explore; but blizzard never bothered doing anything with it, like a few other companies that bury their subsidiaries after buying them.
Honestly this was my whole childhood and id love a remaster of it and a port to PC maybe even a slight more refined version, maybe then it could have a few more games and make it a real series
@@RaTcHeT302 I'm genuinely sad for you, this game holds so many sweet, fun, hysterical memories between my brother and I that I wish everyone could have experienced it the way I did

This is one of the few games that has come out unfulfilled that I actually get upset at. I loved this game when I was younger and while I still do, the more I go back the more I just wish it both got a sequel or sequels and was just made better in general. Personally I'd love it if somebody contacted the original creator and just helped him make it now even if it's under a different title. Hell I'd love it if he could just buy it off Acti-Blizz, but he already tried once and I don't think he's gonna try again. *Man* I wish I could do it for him.

It's not that different from the recruiter grenade, as some are effected by it, others are not, it's just a matter of checking and no, shields don't effect that either.
10:01 was that a little Clank on the table!
This game really reminded me of r&c and now this happened
@@Wudanty It came out around the same time with a lot of the same influences- Ratchet just went with a more platforming focussed approach while Metal Arms went 3PS. And, in hindsight, Ratchet was made by one of the best development studios of the '00s
@@Wudanty Looks like a way worse Ratchet and Clank imo
@@Table53 Bruh they made Spyro too. Us boomers knew they where good
@@Sonyboj Nah, it was just as good and even better in many aspects. The limb system, hacking ability, and actually fun multiplayer mode are all things that were not really seen for third person shooters at the time.

That's not in the game tho.
This, Ratchet & Clank and Spyro were my childhood! Thanks for making a video on it!
Same here. It was good times man
Same!!!
For me, part of the fun was dying over and over trying to find the most optimal method to clearing a section. At one point I did a stealth playthrough. Works better in some places than others, but still fun.

Hope your health is getting better and better. Thanks for the videos.
I'm glad the experimental loony bots bit was the first joke you played during that highlight reel of the humor. That was my favorite one in the game. It was nice revisiting this title after so many years, thanks for keeping its memory alive!
Truly we need more games with first person stroggification sequences.
This is one of those games I have vague memories of, but could never really remember fully.

I was waiting for the bot to say "WRONG LEVEL KRONK"
To describe this game I'd say 'fizzled potential', loved the dynamic damage and limb flailing and there's plenty of dark themes to explore; but blizzard never bothered doing anything with it, like a few other companies that bury their subsidiaries after buying them.
Honestly this was my whole childhood and id love a remaster of it and a port to PC maybe even a slight more refined version, maybe then it could have a few more games and make it a real series
Had this game on the gamecube when I was like 8 or so, played the hell out of it, I'll never forget this game
A good obscure game that I hope more people will play. Luckily you can emulate it.

As opposed to how sad it would be if they came out with a second game before the first one? 😯
OH YES. This is one of the games of my infancy, I spent hours goofin around on the multiplayer with my brother. I'm so glad to see it again!

Hope this gets people interested in it.
This soundtrack is straight up Frank Klepacki meets David Bergeaud.
Still prefer r&c ost but damn it's good
I honestly thought this sounded like an obscure Klepacki sideproject when Mandalore demoed the music. It certainly has the vibe.
I remember playing this game's multiplayer at a friend's house and it was genuinely fun, it deserves another chance with either a remaster or remake with online co-op or multiplayer
