To be fair, people who smoke pot and talk about it as if it is the panacea to all our problems are equally nauseating. If a person wants to smoke pot I think that is their business, as long as they don't drive or do other things that require a sober state.

Kevin Sabet is an anti-legalization activist. You guys should have included that in his introduction. He said that weed isn't a prescribed drug, ignoring that medical marijuana is being prescribed by doctors in 38 states. I know it isn't FDA approved but its being used successfully by ppl like me. I have a spinal cord injury w/paralysis which involves chronic pain & spasticity. I've been able to get off opiate based pain meds because of it. Oh, and it hasn't turned me schizophrenic🙄
I also take medical cannabis for the same reason and it got me of the opioids(OxyContin)it also helps me with fibromyalgia when nothing else has.Oh and it hasn’t given me schizophrenia either 😅, wait who said that 😂😂lol.
Just because it didn't turn you schizophrenic doesn't mean their isn't mountains of evidence showing the link.

@@dalewilkins8412 Even if so! You could still have a safe amount of that hypothetical 99% extract! Or, if a problem, just require businesses to only sell that product in small-dosages, equivalent to the amount of thc in a regular joint. You get what i mean? Morphine is 100 times stronger than codeine, but medically we still use both - just at different dosages. A drug being 'stronger' than another does not mean we need to ban it.
No reason to think any differently about thc percentages - Different percent of THC? Use it for different uses, Sell/prescribe it in different dosages. Problem solved.
He ,instead, framed the issue like that, presumably out either: An embarrassing amount of ignorance for a drug tsar - or far more likely - Out of an attempt at being willfully deceptive. It's ridiculous.
Also like, c'mon. In reality a 99% THC piece of marijuana would be a (literal) clear crystal. THC is a crystal. That is not a product anyone buys, and afaik does not exist.
It would be wildly expensive/wasteful to use/make, and impossible to produce at scale. Not to mention unfeasibly expensive to buy as a consumer. It's a product that exists only in his mind.
Marijuana isnt that different to what it was 70 years ago - We've just gotten better at using spectrometers and identifying strains and THC and CBD levels within strains. We simply KNOW more about the differing strength of strains and of the plant's botany. This is all good stuff, if you care about the safety and health of users!
Much like how its good to know how strong your coffee bean is, its good to know how strong your weed is. But because people have done this important work educating weed consumers - We now have to deal with people misusing this good research to make scare-campaigns saying "oh weed is so much more powerful nowadays"
Honestly i love a lot of the guests you guys have on, even if i have political disagreements with some, but that guy was no beuno. Came across as either a quack or a willful liar.
I'm ALL for science backed education campaigns (especially about how risky it is to use daily before turning 25) - So it saddens me that this is the kind of guy representing drug policy, and not a harm minimisation expert following best practice in the feild.
Stronger herb just means you use less of it.

@@roberthill3145 the way he overuses the word marijuana may very well support your point. The correct term is cannabis. It was the US government that used the word in the 20s/30s as a way to make it sound foreign and dangerous to ignorant Americans (ie, Reefer Madness). And history repeats itself….

No studies examining the link between cannabis and mental illness (that wrongly conclude cannabis is the cause) factor in cannabis helping with mental illness. For example, it helps with autism, schizophrenia, ptsd, anxiety, etc. If the media reported this more, then Kevin Sabet would become (more) irrelevant. Please bring Kevin back to roast him on this.

I thought the interviewee gave a solid account of himself. How do you justify calling him a prohibitionist? He clearly stated that he wanted records expunged and would encourage research. His problem was the classification given the current system, and the new, largely untested products.

But you know what, most countries have restrictions and restrictions on strength of alcohol. Just legalise and regulate it if wants to be sold from genuine vendors so can only be a certain strength whole do more research, sure there'll be people selling the equivalent of moonshine. But it's going to minimise the risk while work through it.

I remember a time when i was so proud of how brave the ABC was with their coverage. I have been watching planet America since it was first broadcast, and it has always been appropriately “both sides” on things USA. But the sickening effort to remain “both sides” in this election year really takes the tarnish off the show. It’s not even our country! You have no charter making you be “both sides”.

changing the scheduling of marihuana is actually a big deal; a schedule 1 drug by law has 'no accepted medical use', and is illegal federally for a doctor to prescribe. This is plain and simply wrong no matter what kevin says, THC in fact does have several accepted medical uses, and keeping THC in schedule 1 is just anti-science

we should be looking toward governments like Canada in terms of the way they managed the rollout of medicinal cannabis. the usa is the perfect model of what >not< to do and that because the usa is 10x bigger than both CAN and AU, its a poor example of the way to implement this type of thing through more open and progressive societies.
Oh please, not Canada again, if only you had the big picture on your radar... For example, a huge catalog of « $anitary additive$ » with no combinatorial C(n, r) restrictions leading to astronomical numbers, in absence of long-term studies consequently, combined to a concept of NON-DETECTION, etc. Don't worry, you'll feel great in comparison some day, while our reform been sabotage for decades to come and it turns out Kevin Sabet was there.

expunging criminal record is actually not a good idea, seeing that they did knew about what they did was criminal and still went ahead and do it could mean that they are more likely to ignore rules and put others at risk in the future, so decriminalize is ok as is releasing them but expunging criminal record is another issue entirely
Rules should be ignored if they are unjust, cannabis related offenses do vary from utensils to commercial selling so there is that distinction, yeah you got a point though maybe just certain cannabis offenses be wiped.

I am sure I cannot post links here but google it. There are products well into the 90% range. We are not talking about simple dried plants, but manufactured products with infused THC.
That's what I thought and googled it. Apparently the oils are more than 90%.
Still, how much you consume would have to be a factor. It's like alcohol - wine had less alcohol than spirits but drinking 2 vodkas is not necessarily 3x worse than drinking 2 wines. So I'm not sure.... I think the real test is more about how much is metabolized in the body rather than what is in the product itself
