I parked 3 days in a raging rain and wind storm in Jacumba, CA and another time in raging winds in Octotillo Wells BLM area for 3 days and stayed warm and dry in my Toyota Sunrader RV. Those were some of the best and worst days of my life in my little lifeboat with nowhere to call home.
I found a 1989 Toyota dolphin for 7000 last weekend and bought it. It’s a six cylinder. The engine and the interior was partly rebuilt in 2006. It’s in good shape. Everything‘s working on it, but I want to change a few things.
Wow I’ve got this car. With around 500k on the clock she performs well. She is the only car I have that survives 5 kids lurking around and survives them getting their drivers license. I have no idea how it survives 3 fires. Yes she has court fire 3 times. She also makes fun of other so called off road vehicles. Exasperated at the vehicles with roof top tents. When I Chan up all 4 wheels etc
Sweep the leg, Johnny! We loved your video and your great attitude/humor. I don’t leave comments often, so you’re doing something right! 😂 I guess you’re the best … ah-rownnnd!! 🤣🤮😉
I really like your presentation! You got a really sweet rig there! This is the rig I originally wanted, and the name of that rig was Lucy. Well that rig sold very quickly as you can imagine 😜 so we found another rig maybe you could call it a distant cousin well it was a 1977 Dodge Mallards class C! We call her Lucy! As in the longest trailer the movie with Lucille Ball and Desi arnez. I got a big 360 V8 all done over high performance! How I would have loved the fuel economy of that 4 Cylinder!
Can you tell me if this model had the aluminum frame/fiberglass vs the stick n metal sheeting? I know the few models that are very obviously one or the other but I cannot find info on these obscure models! Thanks :)
Is there anyway to lighten the load on truck to get better gas mileage? I know keeping waste tanks drained is one way but is there a way to update certain things like a lighter fridge stove and sink? And how is the insulation of vehicle?
My aunt and uncle had one of these and they traveled all over the US and Mexico with it. In regard to power, I use a 97 Toyota with essentially this same engine and have pulled a 16 foot Scamp through and in every state between here and the west coast (WI, MI, S. Dakota, N. Dakota, MN, WY, MT, ID, OR, WA) and it does fine. It's not like driving a V8 powered vehicle but on the other hand I average probably around 16-18 MPG(?) maybe a little better. One gas fill I got 27 MPG. I suspect that was an error in calculations or just an anomaly associated with wind and decline when driving east in Montana. MPGs in excess of 20 MPG are common. To put less of a load on the engine I often drive in 4th gear (a 5 speed trans). I usually travel 55-60 mph but it'll cruise at 70 if I like. Headwinds are sometimes a pain and steep mountain passes are slow but then again so am I! In short - Toyota quality in regard to design and build.
Vehicle Hunter haha still pretty good i guess and am not a speed kinda guy even less on a road trip i like to take time to look at everything. Thanks man keep the good work ;)✌
I get 18 -19 mpg with my '84 because it has a 5-spd manual transmission. I'm in and out of gas stations quick while the Class A RVs keep on pumping fuel. Don't tell them what your fuel mileage is- they don't want to hear it. The little engine is a workhorse, just don't ask it to haul that motorhome box uphill at highway speeds- it will keep losing speed as long as you're climbing.
Don’t know about midgets, but can get 3500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, sales table, driver and 4 Scouts. our Sunland Express. Different layout, but basically same.
My 1985 Toyota New Horizon does not have a cruise control. Overdrive is an extra lower gear so not used on a long pull uphill. It will downshift until it finds the best gear it needs to climb "that" hill.

My dad had a toyota dolphin lived in it for like 5 years made like 6 2000+ mile trips to california and back to Wisconsin. Was a nice.rv
Dang there's some beautiful old Toyota out there ... lucky find!
Nice, I have a 86 clipper, that's been gutted for weight and rebuilt . The 22 re is a amazing motor.
I’ve learned that living with a wet bath couldnt be easier. Love the Dolphinszz

It looks to be in really good condition. You have a rare find there 😊. Enjoy your travels 👍

Neat. The Escaper is my dream RV living rig.
Hey thank you ! Funny good humor and informative. I appreciate it since I'm looking at 1 to buy right now this helps to see what to expect.
The one thing I wanted to see was the rear bed. I would have traded that for the instructions for smoking with a vent window.

I don't think we can call them "midgets" anymore. It's "FUN SIZED"! 😆
😂

Thanks for the tour. Safe travels.
Is it worth 4k?
That's a lot of weight for a 4 cyclinders.

Great video! Love the music.
I'm in Maryland. I have the exact same granvile, except mine has the rear dinette
Four cylinder how does it even move

brettduffy19992 22re that's how. ....I think
Hi looking for info on one I bought 86 like a manual and ...
I appreciated this, funny & well done. We just got a 1989 Dolphin, very similar & these things are special. Still have yours?
Not a window for cigarettes it's a vent to keep the front windshield from getting foggy
Frankly speaking, I love it. Especially use 1987 to build this van.
Can it be winterized?
Nice! I may buy a 82 with 36k miles.
why didn't you buy a Sunrader?
Nice RV. I remember 1987 quite well.
how tall are you bro?
Am looking for one
My dream rig!
didnt say one thing abut the actual bed! who's sleeping on top when there's an actual bed in back?!
The bed over the cab is awesome. Very comfortable.
As soon as the musicstarted I subbed😂
I’d rock this! 🤘🏼
Hell yeah
it looks to be in great shape
Nice tour i love those rv's 😃 what is the fuel economy on those awesome old rigs tho ?
Hi Dimitri, about 15-17 mpg. Its a pretty heavy rig. But with its toyota engine its pretty darn reliable. Just don't expect to go over 70mph :)
Vehicle Hunter haha still pretty good i guess and am not a speed kinda guy even less on a road trip i like to take time to look at everything. Thanks man keep the good work ;)✌

Hilarious !!
Good video, cool little rig.
Lovely looking Toyota motorhome. This is my idea of what a motorhome should be. Small enough for anyone to drive who has a standard driver's license.
I love ours
@@MD-lo5zd Yet it's large enough for two adults to live comfortably while traveling. :)
This guy had mr rotf! with his dry humor.great tour
How much?
funny! long live the yodahomes, youre the best
What's the mileage compared to the V6?
At times the V-6 may get better as in big hills or mountains where more HP is needed or used. Flat land both do well.
Love...FUCKING LOVE the commentary 🤣
Love the rig
Shit, I thought you were going to do a donut when the music started
I need that to live in..nice rv man
how much ?
I FUCKING want one!
Nice job on the video now I wanna join the club.
Dreaming of the day I get mine!!!!
They had problems and Toyota became fed up with the lawsuits. Rear axle and drivetrain issues, costly to repair and replace!
I was hoping like 100 midgets would have jumped out when he opened it. =(
Don’t know about midgets, but can get 3500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, sales table, driver and 4 Scouts. our Sunland Express. Different layout, but basically same.
I like the interrior
Haha. Fun and funny video 👍
10/10 amazing review
Need to buy yourself a 3qt Hot Pot, they seem to be the rage amongst RVers, Air Fryers are popular too.
That’s a nice motor home .
Why overdrive off does it come with cruise control and does it have a timing belt or timing chain
All 22r/22re have chains.
My 1985 Toyota New Horizon does not have a cruise control.

Damn thats cool.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
LOL at the 80's montage. Bahaha.
I'd buy one if I knew where I could find a decent example. :)
They uber difficult to find. But if you are on the West coast than it's slightly easier.
@@VehicleHunter They "uber" difficult? What does that mean?
@@jasoncarpp7742 Uber is right below next to impossible to find.
Quiero comprar morojon
That is a clean Toyota
Enough with these on-the-nose, whispered or mumbled covers of classic songs in a bunch of recent movie trailers. It's getting tiresome.
LUXURY. lol
do not really like the set up.
Respect the political incorrectness 🎉
Good morning

How much for this rv
Give me the price, I’ll buy it!
