In 2005, left Vicksburg MS and moved to Marietta GA bc I knew I wanted better for me and my children! Best decision but was scared of the unknown. But God made the way for me and showed me what steps to take. Landed good job, went back to school and bought my first home....still here and thriving!! All praises to the Most High!!
An awesome video! I am also military. I've visited and lived in over 40 countries, including most large US cities. From what I've experienced, most people focus too much on the macro issues and don't give enough credit to the small things, such as the importance of a social life. I'm now 55. When I was in my 30-40s, I felt comfortable knowing that I could find a full social life almost at will; believe me, when you get older, finding good friends is difficult; there are only so many bars, churches, sporting events, and festivals you can attend. I currently live in Northern Virginia, but my social life is global. This didn't happen overnight. I have worked on it for the past 15 years. I have seen so many people that are lonely and depressed because they thought their partner would always be their social buddy. I got news for you, people die, friends fade/move away, and divorce happens ever-increasingly. Your ability to maintain or extend your social life wherever you go may seem like a small, easy thing to do, but without putting in the work, it gets complicated when you suddenly find yourself alone-not trying to trigger anyone, just my $.02.
Wow, you are so right. Folks don't seem to realize people die, etc., everything you mentioned. I've also realized anymore that many people don't seem to want to socialize as they once did. I supposed because in some ways, they're less willing to trust considering the atmosphere, the headlines. Seemingly folks are for the most part only interested in the familiarity of the clicks they've always had. Even something as little as speaking, and if you try to initiate a friendly 'hello,' they seem to react as if you're weird. Crazy...
Like you I have been living and working overseas most of my life, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Germany, France, London, S. Korea, Belgium I loved living abroad but my Father is not doing well and I must return to the U.S. Can you please tell me the best place to live in America as a Black female. My dad is in Newark NJ and I don't want to live in New Jersey. Are property taxes expensive in VA? What zipcodes should I be looking at there? I am trying to find a community with walking trails to get him moving.
One reason people are relocating has been completely ignored. I relocated for the weather, and ONLY the weather. I'm retired, not looking for a job, and my only child is grown. I moved simply because I got tired of being cold.
Before relocating ANYWHERE, to start, ensure you have: 1. An understanding of vital state and county laws, including criminal, tax, and real estate laws. [You'll be surprised how many archaic laws are still on the books. Research heavily.] 2. A profitable profession, i.e. bus. owner, IT, RN, .. . 3. Reliable transportation-- 2 modes if possible 4. An excellent public school system for your children [based upon U.S. standings, not state; the best state school may still be behind the national standing--- exercise caution] 5. Thoroughly researched the demographics and cultural enrichment opportunities to broaden horizons if desired --Good Luck
Exactly! With that being said, alotta people need to stop moving to Atlanta! You need a GOOD job to live GOOD there and some of our people lack the education to truly flourish there.
I left Chicago in 2001 and moved to Orlando. I was there for five years before moving to Las Vegas in 2006. Stayed there until 2017 headed to Edmonton. Moved back to Las Vegas which was fine until 2020. People leaving California relocated to Vegas driving the housing cost up, the violence has increased along with a massive homeless population.. So after 2022 we will be moving to Rwanda.
I left Baltimore eleven years ago, the best decision I've ever made, moved to Dallas, so many doors opening for me, and counting. The crime, schools, and lack of opportunities is why I left.
Any group that moves from one location to another en masse (while maintaining the same culture/politics/world view) eventually recreates the very environment they were trying to get away from in the first place.
I’m Mexican and from Dallas. My job requires me to drive all over Dallas and the massive DFW areas. I’ve seen new neighborhoods pop up and mostly black families move in. Very nice to see and also very nice people that waive high or say hello as I go through.
@@mzsgt99 just trying to point out something positive. Don't be a chumpette and bring a negative connotation to this. I'm from Oak Cliff and no all of Dallas isn't like that. Your speaking to an OG youngster. Have a nice day.
I knew Orlando was going to be on here. Born in and raised in Miami Florida and now I am moving to North Carolina 30 min outside of Charlotte. Praise be to Yahweh that l am closing in my first home in 2 weeks.
I moved to Phoenix AZ in 2018, and the rent has soared within the past few years. You can't even buy a house out here anymore due to the bidding wars and the people from California moving here and paying cash for homes. Now, on another note, Phoenix does have alot of jobs. You will be able to get something pretty fast. I got a job here before I moved here. There are tons of jobs on Indeed. They generally pay better over here than on the East Coast. The weather is great. Its sunny majority of the year, but can get up to 120 degrees during the Summer (dry heat), and maybe 40s-50s during Winter. But, the rent is beyond ridiculous right now. My rent went up $450 within 2 months. The average rent for a decent spot is around $1600 plus. There is plenty to do here, especially since you are 4 hours away from Vegas and California. And it's recreational here too. There are many spots to purchase MMJ legally. With all that being said, Phx is more for families. There are alot of couples and families here. So if you are in a relationship, married, etc, I think this could work for you. If you are single, probably not as much. The dating scene isn't great. I am now single and work remote. So I decided to move to a smaller city In AZ that is way cheaper. There is nothing to do here, but it's only a few hours away from Cali, Mexico, PHX and Vegas. But no matter where you live, I would recommend everyone check out remote work and move to a smaller, cheaper city, if possible. Every state has a smaller, affordable city that you can move to.
@@evitathediva371 The West Valley cities of Glendale, Avondale, Goodyear, Peroia, and Buckeye are reasonable for the most part. East Valley cities of Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, and Queen Creek are also good options. Whichever one you choose having your own reliable transportation is essential
I lived in PHX I hated it. Outside of the beautiful views, I couldn’t handle the heat, dry or not, it was unbearable. I also felt like there wasn’t any good paying jobs there. I ran at the first opportunity to leave Chicago and moved to Charlotte in 2020. BEST decision ever!!!! Chicago is literally out of control. Yes, crime is everywhere but it is on a different level there. Get out fast if you can.
I left Chicago 18 years ago. It was bad then and it's horrible now. I would never move back there and I don't know not one person jumping at the chance to live there.
@@KarmaSandiego I think in order to truly enjoy Chicago you have to be able to afford to live in the areas we didn't discover until we were grown. River North, etc. Otherwise DANGER!! LOL
I understand why a lot of us are leaving these big cities but rather than leaving in mass we need to fix these neighborhoods. Preserving our black neighborhoods in these major cities is important for wealth and power as well. Being from Harlem it sucks seeing what was once seen as the black Mecca not look so black anymore.
I think we get so frustrated with conditions not changing that we just figure. Why bother? That is part of the reason that at least for now I haven't moved out of NYC. I see non-black people moving into my neighborhood everyday.
As a black man, I highly respect your presentation and representations of the black families with a black male with his black woman influence. We as God fearing men are here, yet are being overlooked in many areas of society. I here thank you and appreciate you for such a representation of us. I pray for such a family of my own and by His grace, I will represent 🙏🏿 strong.
I’m so glad I saw this!! I’ve been telling my wife about Las Vegas. We were excited about Tx and Fl but new laws have deterred us from wanting to go there. Have to protect my kids from the government now these days 😢
In protecting your kids what is it that you are protecting them from? Abortion? Teach them birth control, not allowing sex books or any kind of sex in schools(teach them about sex at home). I’m truly wanting to understand, no name calling or judgement.
What a silly reason, i cant think of any laws that would hurt them as those state most the laws are in place to protect them. Its probably best you stay away if you perceive it that way.
DO NOT MOVE TO VEGAS PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏 ...it is hell on earth not just because of the weather but because the city as a whole is evil!!! Very interesting video! I correctly guessed Dallas, Phoenix, Charlotte and of course Atlanta would be on this list for cities blacks are moving to. I visited 3 of those 4 cities within the past 4 years. I've never been to Charlotte yet. My experiences there were decent, but not exciting. I'm still stuck here in the metro area of Chicago. I want to relocate to somewhere where I have relatives who can help me get around a city I'm unfamiliar with.
I’m from NC and went to college in Charlotte and I can surely say Charlotte has grown tremendously just in the past 10yrs. Its an hour drive from where I stay in the country between Greensboro and Winston Salem. The taxes and cost of living in Charlotte from my understanding is higher than Atlanta now. Charlotte is a great city but I would never want to live there again.
Correct me if I'm wrong however thought Raleigh N.C. is the fastest growing city currently??? The research triangle which includes Chapel Hill and Durham is BOOMING. I miss Gaithersburg MD. which is noted as the most diverse city in the U.S. A 23 year career in the Navy has allowed me to see much of this world. I encourage every young person after high school to leave wherever U grew up and go see this big old WORLD!!!
Yes Raleigh is the fastest growing city because of the tech companies relocating here. However, Charlotte is seeing major growth with new jobs. Raleigh has much better schools than Charlotte but Charlotte has a lot more to offer from a things to do standpoint. Raleigh cost of living is very high and only getting higher. People are homeless and living in the woods off the I-540/Capital Blvd exit because they could no longer afford rent. It's only getting worse with Apple and these other big companies relocating all their employees here with salaries averaging 187k.
I was born and raised in Dallas. I have lived in New Orleans, Brooklyn, Atlanta, and most recently Philly. Me and my spouse have finally settled in Orange County, Cali. We relocated from Philly at the beginning of the pandemic. We just bought a house near Irvine/Laguna Beach. We are in HEAVEN. Yes the real estate market/ real estate taxes are expensive, but I wouldn’t trade the peace, quality of life, and beautiful outdoors for anything in the world at this point of my life. What I would have found boring in my 20s/30s, I am discovering that I love those same things in my early 40s. Pristine streets and architecture surrounded my the ocean, mountains, and nature? My Black ass is never leaving if I can help it.
What is it like in New Orleans? And is it safe for families with young children? I want to move out of ohio so bad mostly because I am sick of the mistreatment because I am in a biracial relationship and plus other stuff. But I don't know where to go.

I live in Loudoun Cty, VA. This is the wealthiest county in America based on median income. The housing is wonderful but not cheap. I just built a home and the value has increased 13% in 8 months. Look here.
As a black guy that wanted nothing more than to escape from the Atlanta area in high school and return home to Boston, I can’t believe ATL is on the desirable list, but to each their own.
Keep in mind they said Metro Atlanta. The city of Atlanta and some of the suburbs are just as bad as anywhere BUT at land has more black middle class people spread out in it's suburbs thanks pretty much any other metro, except for maybe Metro DC

We are also leaving the Continent for West Africa. We are tired of the fact that the Laws here in North America, do not and never applied to Our People.
Very accurate list. New Yorkers and Californians are spreading far and wide. Los Angeles and Las Vegas were my former home but moved to Atlanta to raise a family. Lived in Charlotte too but higher taxes than Atlanta. Houston is a great fit as many are educated but too humid for me. For me Atlanta is a great fit. Also Atlanta and Columbus are the only 2 cities where you can still purchase a decent home at 200k within 30 miles of downtown.
I'm NOT sure why Columbus, Ohio made this list..I LIVE here and they do NOT have affordable housing. It has shot up like crazy average home is 400,000 for a 2,500 sqf house.....apts are 1,400 average for 1 bedroom....no it is is NOT accurate for my city. 200,000 is in the hood where NOBODY wants to live on the Southside (south of German Village) ..you go west you at the hilltop and bottoms horrible area..you go north you paying 300,000 for a 2 bedroom 1,800 sqf house in Clintonville at the closest Worthington and Westerville. You go 30miles out you are looking at trouble 😂🤣
H-town bay-bah. I moved to Houston from Philadelphia in 2006 and haven’t regretted a single moment. It’s really about what you’re looking for. I was seeking lower housing cost, employment opportunities, good/safe schools for my kids, safer city and lower taxes. Houston delivered on all of the above. The people here are very friendly. Houston (and all Texas cities) are progressive politically, but beyond the suburbs is usually Trump country.
@@matthewmontalvo5066 Katy is a distant Houston suburb. Great schools out there. It’s conservative politically but not storm-the-capital type. More George Bush types. Informative video. I wouldn’t recommend anyone move to Minnesota until you’ve come to visit in the months of January and February. The winters are long, below freezing, and depressing. You literally have to be born in it to survive. I’m moving for sure 2022 to Houston or Dallas and I can’t wait!
You right about that..I live in Indianapolis & I see weather reports & Minneapolis is 20 degrees colder than indy...I be thinking, who can handle that weather

Moved to Charlotte from Chicago not too long ago for the same reasons said in the video. I will say though, I miss how easy it was to find places where black people congregate in the bigger cities. It's a bit harder here. It does feel safer though. And the weather is LOADS better!
I think any place you live is what you make of it. If you travel frequently and are married it shouldn't matter at all. I grew up as a navy brat and lived everywhere. As an adult I lived in Florida, Atlanta metro and moving to Vegas next month. I know I'll be happy because of the attitude I have about life.
I'm from Northern New Jersey, retired from the military in NC. I can't understand why my family still lives in Jersey. Every time I visit reminds me why I will not move back, I tell them to move down South. My $238k house would be close to a million up North.
The homes and cost of living is cheaper because the pay grade is low where as up here NJ the cost of living is higher and the wages are higher than up north ! I was born in Raleigh NC but was raised in NJ! The south is just not for everyone definitely not me!
It is important to consider not only the city you want to live in but also the politics of the State that you'll be living in. For instance, Houston may be a nice city for us blacks to move to, however Texas as a State is as conservative and republican as they come. And so is Florida.
Republican Texas can be changed if enough Demacrats move to the state. Fulton county where Atlanta is located is a BIG Demacratic stronghold and made a big difference in the last election (two Demacrat Senators were elected) which changed the Senate from Republican control to Demacrat Control! The Georgia Republicans are now trying to control the Fulton County election system, Sad!
To be fair though. Democratic states don’t really care about Blacks either take it from California, Portland, Wisconsin and etc. at least in Conservative states, I know I have some protections as a citizen.
And what's wrong with that, after liberals ruin Detroit, Chicago, and dozens of big cities, moving to Florida was the best thing I'v ever done and should have done it a long time ago, and that includes me voting Republican to keep it this way.
I left NYC mainly The Bronx because of how dangerous it started becoming again. When the housing authority and the neighborhoods are just as it is at night there’s a problem. As a minority it’s also ridiculous to live in NYC unless you live in rent and income restricted residency buildings. And what can be affordable is in the most horrible neighborhoods. I moved for many reasons but piece of mind and safety was strongly a factor
Left the Bronx like 9 months ago to a small town upstate…lived in Pelham Bay which is nice but is was getting to expensive to even buy within 45-1hour from the city, so left….never have experienced such tranquility until now, hope all is well where you moved to !
I've lived all around New England, Vegas 2x, FL, AZ, WI, NC, Mexico, UK and traveled to many other countries. Finding a place that feels safe and like home for black folks is serious business.
I left Milwaukee 4 years ago after living there all of my life and haven't once looked back. The severe winter cold that makes it feel like you're living in Canada, the poor paying job market, and the cost of living is exactly why I left and have 0 intentions on ever moving back and I don't know why anyone else formerly from Milwaukee would either. It's miserable living there. I've been living in Florida for 4 years now and the move was the best thing to have ever happened to me. The year round warm weather, quality of life, theme parks, attractions, tourism, beaches, and in certain parts of Florida with reasonable cost of living is why I came.
I live in LA and have been here for 73yrs. It is now so corrupt and hard to live in. Traffic is crazy and leadership here is terrible. I have been to Charlotte and thinking of moving there.
L.A., the place of my birth and the city I've spent my life in save a few years in college and some time in Europe, is truly awful now. It's too expensive. It's overcrowded. It doesn't protect the working class. Thus the reason for our huge homeless population. I tell people it's become a cruel city. Black folks are something like 9% of the general population but 40% of the homeless population. Make it make sense.
For families, Charlotte should be #1 Atlanta/ Phoenix should be #1 and 2 for dating . But Charlotte is on the come up for entrepreneurs. New money is ready to be made
The prices for everything in Atlanta is getting out of control. I moved back to upstate NY from Atlanta 2 years ago and it was the best decision for me. It's a great city to visit but I wouldn't want to live there again.

I lived i Austin for 15 yrs and lol most of that time my social title couldve been "only non white or latino/Hispanic person in the space"...loved my time there and thinking about coming back to Houston
Left Chicago in 2002, moved to Nashville TN. My kids, we're young then. Didn't want them to see that cold-hearted environment that Chicago has. Been here 20 years. Go, Simeon!
My family is from North Carolina but I was raised in Paterson, New Jersey. New Jersey is soo expensive and lacks black culture, therefore me moving to Houston,TX was a no brainer‼️🙌🏾
I had a black appraiser give me a good appraisal on my home in Chicago and when I moved to Hawaii I started a small business and have became very successful
I feel my experience having lived in some cities may add some context to this video. I've lived in NYC, DC, Houston, and Nashville. And to be honest, all cities are expensive in different ways. All cities have sizable black populations. And all those cities are being heavily gentrified. Please don't be fooled, there's no cheap places anywhere in America that offer strong amenities, employment, etc. Nashville and Houston are not as expensive DC and NYC. But it's important to note, salaries are significantly higher in DC and NYC. In the desired parts of Houston and Nashville, rent prices are easily $1700 plus without making comparable salaries to places like DC and NYC. And you often spend way more on transportation costs (gas, insurance, repairs, etc) that you won't have to spend in DC or NYC if you use public transportation. Due to the south not being as cheap as it once was, you won't be saving money necessarily by moving there. While it may seem cheaper, keep in mind salaries are significantly lower. The best way to survive in today's America is collectively, use your networks, family, relationships, etc to help with expenses. If you try to go alone, you'll be forever stuck. Ultimately, I still think it makes more sense to live in high cost cities, there's just more opportunity, just make sure you're strategic. These other cities are rapidly becoming high cost without the same opportunities.
@@TheOriginalCryptoPimp You're not the only one who reads FYI. The most heavily gentrified parts of DC no longer have black residents in large populations, so I'm struggling to see how you can make the assertion that black people are participating in this process. I currently live in DC, the overwhelming majority of DC's black population is in Wards 7 and 8, the least gentrified wards in DC.
I would like to agree, In Nashville the wages aren't compatible with the living standards. I'm originally from the Midwest and moved here at 17 been here for almost 10 years now. I have personally been traveling to look for my next stop. It used to be decent living 5-3years ago but things are starting to change so I'm trying to book it quick before it gets weird. I’m originally from Chicago, IL. Moved to Houston, TX in 2015, now living in Austin. TX. Pro’s of living in Texas, is good weather year round, no state taxes, conveniently located to quite a few major cities and states. Good school systems, low crime, very friendly and hospitable people in Houston. Con’s of living in Texas, they don’t really have a good transportation system. Having a car is a essential. If you don’t live in the suburbs and have a far commute to work expect to pay for toll roads. Summers can be quite hot and uncomfortable.
Hi Ms. Kim, I also moved to Texas, i lived in Houston, Austin, now I live in Dallas. I did work in San Antonio. Everything you said is correct, the transportation in Texas is terrible. Even here in Dallas its bad. With the current labor shortage, there are not enough bus drivers for the routes. A car is essential for everything. I rather deal with the high gas prices than take public transportation. I too lived in Austin, I honestly say that my experience wasn't the best. What I recommend to you is really try to get involved with black organization there because the black population is low in Austin.

Yeah, the blacks that don't know how to be real Americans and be blessed, ok. And not to mention Charlotte is just much easier to live in then Atlanta, Everything is less then 30 min away, the traffic is not too bad (it’s getting their tho lmao) also the Career opportunities here is amazing (pays more than ATL) but all in all when you want to experience the Atlanta “lifestyle” and vibe your a easy 4 hours drive away!! Exactly. I moved to Charlotte a few years ago and it has been a great move. It’s not there yet with Atlanta as far as entertainment but you see it actually growing to get that way. Plus you don’t have to deal with all the traffic of Atlanta either.
I just relocated here from Orlando a few months ago . Definitely a different vibe and I can see it growing daily . The black love is stronger here in Charlotte than Orlando I’ll say that .
I live in Tulsa, Ok and let me just tell you that 10k grant from the Kaiser Foundation has lots of folks moving here that worked remote or wanted to build startups. But, I have been seriously thinking about moving to TX. But, there is definitely hesitation due to the politics, laws, and oh let's not forget about the electrical grid issue.
I've been gone from the Midwest, leaving Cincinnati, Ohio 18.5 years ago. I had the choice between Atlanta and Chicago. A no-brainer, I chose Atlanta. By God's grace, I've done nothing but thrive and grow. Whenever I visit Cincinnati, it's like something dies inside. Where I now call home is the right environment for me.
If I don't like Texas i would go back to my State Massachusetts. I love Boston but the weather is too cold. Maybe Texas would be great for me. Any advice please ...
@@mariamaba9220 you've got to decide what it is YOU really want in a place of residence, what matters most to you, what are deal breakers, and what you're willing to compromise on. Because you will have to compromise, as no place has everything you want. Then find a place that most closely matches. No place is going to have everything. Cincinnati has great cost of living and jobs, and the only issue you have is that you're bored? Is that really a reason to pack up and move clear across country? I'm guessing by this statement you're pretty young. Look, if jobs are not an issue and you're pocketing more money because of the lower cost of living, you can make your own fun and enrichment. Even if that means you travel a little more, perhaps to places with more excitement and enrichment.
I am repatriating ASAP. I love Georgia, but The Gambia is looking good for my family and I. No matter where we move, we need to do more together as a people or it will be meaningless. We need to move our money into HBCU's, and groom our children to be skilled producers in STEM, trades, healthcare, and other enterprising/ entrepreneurial professions for the purpose of reconstructing our nation. If we are not wise to put ourselves and communities first by these means, then I am sorry but we will continue to ruin and decimate ourselves further. Chasing some American dream that all we have do is work and be "good Black folk", and everything will be in place. We have work to do.

Been living in Vegas for 16 years and it’s NOT affordable anymore. The average 1 bedroom apartment for rent costs $1800 and wages here aren’t improving.
A few years ago, I used to watch various shows on HGTV and they featured Vegas a lot often showing move-in-ready houses and condos at a base range of $90,000 to less than $175,000. I should have known it was too good to be true.
You are absolutely right. But Vegas is more affordable then California. I have family in Vegas & I'm in California, the influx of people from California has caused Vegas prices to rise
@@80s4everever it was true about 10 years ago. I met an Uber driver and be sold his house in NY and bought a whole neighborhood of 6 houses in vegas. He said they threw in one house for free as no one was buying then.
I moved from Loa Angeles, CA to Charlotte, NC in 2010. I moved for the exact reason the video states. Didn't want to go to Florida and felt Atlanta was getting to crowded. Charlotte has seen such a boom in people moving into the Queen City that our housing costs are starting to sky rocket. It's still much cheaper than NY or Cali.
@@juleslove9814 it was a little different on the beginning as far as job searching went. For instance I noticed what employers looked for here was different than what employers in Cali looked for. Big difference in the vibe which for me was so needed. Of course there things in Cali that is not here in Charlotte but overall my transition was smooth!
@Scorp 83 if you are able to come visit first I wod recommend it. I didn't come to Charlotte for the first until I had to sign the lease on the house I rented. Until then I had never been. I literally moved on a leap of faith.
Dallas Texas is booming for black families. I moved here from Louisiana for a job transfer and I can honestly say there are more jobs than you can imagine here! My wife is a licensed loan officer and I am in sales. Before her license was approved for Texas she was working a full-time stay at home job in payments for Walmart at $16-$18 an hour and that’s just to stay at home on a dayshift at a computer! Not counting how beautiful the metro area is as a whole, it’s much different from Houston! Beautiful weather and quiet suburban living..
I’m in the Charlotte area and I’m about to move. It’s getting crowded and not my cup of tea anymore. If you’re a young professional looking for a smaller metro than other cities around the US it’s good for you and you’ll enjoy it.
Maynard Jackson set the tone (50 years ago) for Atlanta when, as the city's first black mayor, he demanded blacks be included in all city contracts. We were lucky he was the first, as there was no hint of corruption as there is with some current suburban mayors, and he fought for blacks instead of enriching his own pockets. He had to leave town to find a job after his term was up because he disrupted the good old boys network.
anderr, terrific observation on the forgotten Maynard The Main Man Mayor Jackson! Amazed you recall him. Was going to lunch one day with this very reserved Bostonian African American woman. Mayor Jackson stepped into the elevator, and she melted into a giggling schoolgirl. He was a charmer, who listened more than he talked. He was preceded by two progressive mayors (Allen, Massell) that were fiscally conservative and socially liberal...a rarity these days. In just 10 years, they got a rapid-transit tax passed on a referendum, and had the subway system running in 8 years. The city, though, has lost that look-ahead vision. Current mayors have not been as concerned that the streets were kept clean and safe. GM and Ford, closed huge assembly plants in the 1990s. It was also, challenging to build an efficient grid-city, over a maze of winding streets on heavily forested and very steep hills. That were basically, old Cherokee and Creek traveling paths along current-day Peachtree. There is still, a geographic disconnect, longstanding....The indigenous people on the eastern side of current-day Peachtree, had little interaction with the indigenous villages on the west side. Because, waterways east of Peachtree, oddly, flow into the Atlantic Ocean. On the western side, the waters flow into the Gulf of Mexico. West side of Peachtree, sharply rocky and steep, and industrial. East side, more gently rolling hills, close to the Appalachians. PS, when I lived there, I always liked the sound of "Hartsfield Airport". Jackson's name, takes away the cadence, of the familiar un-hyphenated airport name.
I’m was born and raised in NC. Lived in Atlanta for 11 years after college. I now reside in metro Dallas for the last decade. Most of the large cities in the South are no longer “affordable” anymore! Sure they are cheaper than the larger coastal cities, but that ain’t saying much! I still love where I live though. I’m just mentioning this, because 10 years ago, you could grab a $200k house in metro Dallas brand new with decent square footage. Brand new, that doesn’t exist anymore! That price will get you a 1970’s ranch that needs major work. Also, once you finish with the bidding war, that price will be pushing 300k.
I moved to Oviedo FL because it's the quiet version of Orlando. It has lots of green area to look and explore. Plus I work in military simulation and I love it! It's a place where I can nerd out, learn about things, teach and train others with out being called names and/or being mistreated. I can also share my military experiences since I served for 14 years.
I'm a black female and use to live in Oviedo it's a beautiful place to live and raise children I lived there for 6 years and I'm thinking about moving back enjoy
Left Delaware and moved to Texas for 32 years for a cheaper lifestyle, but moved back to care for my elderly mother. The city of Wilmington has gotten more expensive and high crime 😳
Lived and worked in Las Vegas for 3 years before I moved back to New York City and retired here. I'm not surprised at the number of black people moving to las Vegas. It's a tourist destination for many of us, even if you don't gamble, no state taxes, yes it's hot in the summer but it doesn't have the humidity that most of the east coast has. If I had to do it again, I would have stayed in Las Vegas and not have moved back to New York City to retire.
@@mikegeee3319 You Def like it Vegas beautiful and growing everyday alot to do here. You'll will love to call Vegas' your new home. Hope to see u around here Good Luck!
My guess is " seasoned " is like many Black Folks not sensitive to racism which is really a good thing for us as we are powerless to get rid of the White Racism which has us still in chains figuratively. To my shock, the South remains dominated by the same " White Conservative false Christian values " ( a long term for racism ) that existed prior to the Civil War White People fought to maintain slavery and separate from our Country. So, her suggestion " likely Down South " will surprise Black Folks moving back home from the Progressive North as it has for me living in NY all of my life. So, Black Folks if you don't want to be surrounded by visible racism think hard before moving South. The election of the unfit, lying, sexual harasser and promoter of White Supremacy Donald Trump should be a wake-up call to everyone not White. " They haven't changed and they ain't playing!".
Another resource is to watch the local news via internet to see what day to day life is like in the cities you're considering. Peace, love, and good health to you and yours. Oh and I hope you find your perfect place!
This list seems very accurate. However, what she doesn't tell you is that Phoenix is becoming expensive because of the former California and New York residents driving up the prices and making it more expensive to rent a place. You're better off renting a house. And the public schools out there stink. Trust me I just left Arizona. Don't you get me wrong Arizona is a beautiful place and some of the people are friendly out there but it's hard to make friends because people come and go while the others are in their own bubble.
I relocated here from outside of Chicago. And I am getting ready to relocate again. It is very challenging to make friends. You greet others with a good morning, and they stare. My home state is Ky, and I believe in hospitality as well as manners. I have also found that my "sisters and brothers" can have an arrogance. There is enough of Az for everyone, and remember there is no need to act snobby as "THEY" do not like you either. Lol! Rents have increased. I moved here in Dec 2019. I reside in Gilbert. However; while venturing out, you have to drive even further to meet others. Also seeking a church home......So, my lease is up in January. Wages are not as high either, and they have several call centers. This list has helped me to make a decision on my next. Either back to the Suburbs in Chicago(Northwest), or possible Houston or Addison.
@MisterB2eternity Greedy real estate people drives up the cost of rents not the New Yorkers that move there. When they hear 👂🏽 that accent, afterwards, all they see is dollar 💵 bills. All New Yorkers are not rolling in the dough. It’s a survival situation in New York. You can also make great money, but the city has their hands in your pocket. - I’m a City-Countryfied vice versa person.
@@robinwalthour2357 I did not mean to blame the New Yorkers and Caluforniaper say. It is the greedy real estate people overcharging the prices of those more than they are worth. Also, the wages are stagnating and not keeping up with inflation.
Why do people always blame new homebuyers for pushing up cost in their cities? It’s your greedy neighbors looking to unfairly profit from others seeking a home that do that and yourselves for hiking rents because you can get away with it
I came back to STL after graduating, it's actually a lot of opportunities here, just have to be in a certain field to see it. It was a great place to start my civil engineering career. It was LinkedIns #1 to start a career, but a lot of people just want to go to well known cities. We need to come together and make these places better but, not enough of us care that much. But while those places are getting overcrowded, I'll be buying up some land and properties out here lol.
Coming from STL I wish that I could have had that same experience, but I had to go for better job opportunities. And since the move my quality of life has greatly improved. What I miss the cost of living and all the free stuff we have in STL.
The only thing I miss from Da Lou is Chinese food and BBQ 😂😂😂.. you can keep that weather and crime.. but good luck to y'all and stay prayed up ... oh yeah I also miss my church home
I was watching this video trying to leave STL but in actuality I live across the river in Southern Illinois where things seem to be taking a turn for better with Scott Airforce Base not far from me.
In my opinion, Atlanta has always been way overhyped, and its title of being the "Black Mecca" hasn't been valid for decades. Metro Kansas City and Denver/Colorado Springs should also have been honorable mentions on the list of the move to cities.
this is true cause SC is the destination my family wants to move to from NY....I thought they would list more then major cities in the video but it seems the comment section has the more details
I absolutely love Dallas... I moved here when I was 26 and been living here 20 years now. So I have definitely witnessed the changes overtime. I've traveled all over to many of these cities and spent considerable time in them (especially Houston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York). Dallas has issues just like any other major city, but I'd take it any day over the rest of these places. I like to think of Dallas as the perfect mix of slow and fast pace living. You can jump in and out at anytime. Dallas is the anchor city of the DFW Metro (which is enormous by the way) and offers an eclectic mix of sports, recreation, nightlife, the arts, job opportunities, etc... There is long-standing Black Culture here; as well as Hispanic, White, and Asian cultures when you want to mix things up. There is no beach here lol, but the city does have large lakes in it and around it when you want that water experience. Springs fluctuate from balmy to stormy...Summers are hot as hell...Falls are very pleasant...and Winters are generally cool with some very cold spurts. Being centrally located in the US, flights to the 4 corners of the country are generally no more than 2.5 hours. It's not a cheap as it used to be, since the population has been exploding. But still affordable in comparison to many other large cities. If you come here with a plan and a will to execute it, you will be fine. If you move here aimlessly, you may be setting yourself up for hard times. Good luck to all future Dallasites.
What about the politics in the state? Does it ever upset you? Texas seems desirable, all but it’s politics, thus my apprehension about relocating to Texas.
I know a few people who moved to Atlanta, but far as people moving out of Philadelphia is not true, in a past few years a lot of New Yorkers are moving in to Philadelphia for lower rent and cheap property.
It does not make sense if they bring the same energy that they are leaving! Atlanta crime is BAD as hell!!!! I had missed gun crossfire twice! If they are not going to act better and teach their children to behave like they want better than they need to stay in the BS!!!!
I’ve lived in Phoenix for 20 years. I ask the same questions every time. 1. Name the 24 hr R&B station? 2. Name the 24hr jazz station that plays jazz? 3. Name the spots you can go to after 2am? 4. The public transportation is weak considering Phoenix is the 5th largest city? You still need a car 🚘 Oh there is a reason the light rail doesn’t go to Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert.. 5. Culturally Phoenix is a large town with a small town mentality. 6. Phoenix is not the place to be if your homeless. The population increases every year and the City of Phoenix seems to be at a loss.
The number one reason NOT to move to Pheonix is that you are living artificially in the DESERT. Water is already a problem and will only get worse in the coming years. In some dystopian future, Arizona will be one of those abandoned states where once great edifices will lie in ruins.
I am from KY. Relocated to Illinois(Chicago NW burb), then moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2019 during Covid. A different experience as folk were not friendly, people were in their own "zone". It was what I would call "Beautifully Depressing". Was there for 3 years and relocated back home.

Atlanta is booming because of the many colleges and universities, (Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta, Georgia State and Georgia Tech) and the major companies desire to tap that talent and recruit more minoriries. The area across the interstate across from Georgia Tech has turned into a mini Silicon Valley with many tech companies clustered there. These tech companies are also investing in buildings and equipment at the Atlanta University schools to cultivate more black talent.
Nice to see people making a better life for themselves. Been in ATL for about 8 years. Not really feeling it anymore, moving on. It has changed a lot just within the time frame I've lived here.
Atlanta has turned into a pure shithole. Just left there this past year. The crime there is ridiculous. Too many of our people moving there to party and turn up instead of trying to prosper.

Crazy...

Before relocating ANYWHERE, to start, ensure you have:
1. An understanding of vital state and county laws, including criminal, tax, and real estate laws. [You'll be surprised how many archaic laws are still on the books. Research heavily.]
2. A profitable profession, i.e. bus. owner, IT, RN, .. .
3. Reliable transportation-- 2 modes if possible
4. An excellent public school system for your children [based upon U.S. standings, not state; the best state school may still be behind the national standing--- exercise caution]
5. Thoroughly researched the demographics and cultural enrichment opportunities to broaden horizons if desired

Very interesting video! I correctly guessed Dallas, Phoenix, Charlotte and of course Atlanta would be on this list for cities blacks are moving to.
I encourage every young person after high school to leave wherever U grew up and go see this big old WORLD!!!
They call Raleigh another D.C. The same kind of highways for example.

Agreed because the more the democratic population increases the closer the state comes to flipping.
To be fair though. Democratic states don’t really care about Blacks either take it from California, Portland, Wisconsin and etc. at least in Conservative states, I know I have some protections as a citizen.

@@TheOriginalCryptoPimp I hear you, but I don't think your take is true.
@@TheOriginalCryptoPimp You're not the only one who reads FYI. The most heavily gentrified parts of DC no longer have black residents in large populations, so I'm struggling to see how you can make the assertion that black people are participating in this process. Let’s not leave out that many African Americans are making an Exodus back to Africa as well. Some countries include: Ghana, Gambia, Tanzania, Uganda just to name a few. There is a big world out there and great opportunities to flourish on the continent.

Yeah, the blacks that don't know how to be real Americans and be blessed, ok. I hope they don't get caught up in a possible recolonization of Africa that's being talked about, but through the Chinese Asian influence. Then they'll want to beg themselves back to America, haha. There's problems to solve and deal with everywhere so the smartest thing to do is learn to overcome them.

Let me give y’all the real deal on Atlanta VS Charlotte. I’m a Atlanta native that recently just moved to Charlotte for work, and while Charlotte does have a nice size black population, Charlotte has lacked in things catered to and for black people. But that narrative is quickly changing, their is new black owned Lounges, restaurants and stores springing up weekly here! (really 3.5 if you push it) I hope this helps someone with making a decision to move to the Queen City!!
Exactly. I moved to Charlotte a few years ago and it has been a great move. It’s not there yet with Atlanta as far as entertainment but you see it actually growing to get that way. Plus you don’t have to deal with all the traffic of Atlanta either.
Thanks for this
I'm thinking about moving there but didn't know if they had a big black scene
I just relocated here from Orlando a few months ago . Definitely a different vibe and I can see it growing daily . The black love is stronger here in Charlotte than Orlando I’ll say that .
What fields pay more in Charlotte vs ATL? I'm in supply chain/logistics and you'd think ATL would pay more in that field.
I don't know... Have you done an updated video on this topic? Love to see one because the south is getting scary again.
I live in Tulsa, Ok and let me just tell you that 10k grant from the Kaiser Foundation has lots of folks moving here that worked remote or wanted to build startups.
I.m actually in Cincinnati Ohio very good state Ohio and lots of jobs, cheap housing but too boring for me. I may try Texas next month.

@@80s4everever a few years ago condos were that much. My condo was worth $30,000 back in 2016. Now, it's worth $220,000 as of last month.

How did you like the transition?
Im in New York never thought I would leave. Im looking for somewhere better especially where other Black Americans communities are strong.
Agreed
Love this! I wish they had a list like this for Canada.

Lived and worked in Las Vegas for 3 years before I moved back to New York City and retired here. I'm not surprised at the number of black people moving to las Vegas.
It’s your greedy neighbors looking to unfairly profit from others seeking a home that do that and yourselves for hiking rents because you can get away with it
The same in Las Vegas, Nevada.
