They kind of explain why with the 3rd discovery (the primordial inhibitor). He says it limits his bodily and mental reactivity to meta-existential stimuli. Basically, the device is strong enough to stop people from freaking out / going mad while becoming an alien psychic life form, so it makes sense that they'd be a pretty disassociated.

As a biologist, this game fascinates me (while still being unsettling). Edit: Yeah, fungi communicate through electrical signals, there's even a guy that put these signals through a synthesizer to make surreal songs. This game is a play on that, and I like it.
I might be wrong, but isn't it a scientific theory that fungi communicate with each other through their mycelium? It's an interesting idea to take that to the extreme, by having humans bond with fungi in order to make that same connection. Obviously it's a little different since the fungi isn't rooted, but still a curious idea.

Due to the fungus being experimental, I assume that it's using these people's bodies as hosts, its mutating them horribly as a side effect to communicate, and spreading further, purposely forcing a calmness, possibly even overriding the brain of the host. @Polina Tkachenko i think the injection, the psychic fungi just rearrange your body at first, then it started to decomposize your body parts until your mind finally become one with it (and join with the others that have undergoes the flowering). the dude gets disfigured in the middle of the proccess because to become one with the fungi, you need to give up your primal evolutionary parts (basically almost everything in your body). or else the body can't handle the experience it receives when gaining new "senses" and "insights". the fungi only rearranges and/or absorb what's neccesary and discard what's not (like the hands, legs, etc.). this game is based on lovecraftian/eldritch horrors, mixed with experiential epystemology so i assume this was the case

I don't think it ever specifies that he ever gives the wallet back or pauses to allow the student to do so...he only spits out his teeth and then resumes... The whole procedure being a convoluted mugging is now canon.
Coming back to this video, this game really is an amazing and unique horror game. And the fact that the character doing the flowering did it to feel connected and be happy, most likely from a place of loneliness, makes it all the more disturbing
So I put it on full screen mode and I couldn’t see him and I will put my face closer to see if he was hiding and I got so scared I dropped it and fell off the bed
“Did it work? Did I scare you?” Me: “Nope. No scares here.” *”If it didn’t scare you, i’ll be very, very upset”* Me: *”Yes it did scare me it scared me so much-“*

This has got to be one of my favourite markiplier videos. The game was horrifying, mark was just hilarious (especially the end), and lixians editing is just perfect.
This feels like a very weird metaphor for drug addiction, this fellow is so lonely and disconnected that they underwent a drastic surgical procedure to become a horrific fungus creature, all so they could feel connected to something, feel anything. Much like in the absence of any support in traumatic life situations, many people seek out psychoactive drugs to feel pleasure, even if it leads to their death.
Cool opinion. Sure seems you put some thought into it! Though, it sounds wayyy too close to real life, with how people always want to be close but sometimes can’t.

Just goddamn finessed
I don't think it ever specifies that he ever gives the wallet back or pauses to allow the student to do so...he only spits out his teeth and then resumes...

Coming back to this video, this game really is an amazing and unique horror game. And the fact that the character doing the flowering did it to feel connected and be happy, most likely from a place of loneliness, makes it all the more disturbing
I feel like he started regretting it near the end too, but still holds onto the hope that maybe, just maybe after the end there is something better.

@Hassan Akhtar Ok.
Nice idea, but nah, I personally don't think what's going on here.
