For everyone that wants to play this game or didn't know this: Staying in the Garage is a guaranteed "win". The time it takes you to run upstairs once the audio queue from the vent plays is almost exactly how much time you have to wait for the vent to be opened. While the game goes on the garage door opens faster which is why staying in the garage is the smartest thing to do in order to "win".
The jump scares aren’t what scare me. It’s the voices of the creatures, the quiet, the atmosphere, and the fact that the creatures are breaking their backs trying to get to him
I think that's what makes the Mandela Catalog much scarier than some other analog horror. It focuses on the atmosphere and sounds a lot more than other analog horror, as well as the monsters and not having a consistent form or shape which makes predicting what's gonna happen a lot harder .
And it's always the original, too! I think that can be chosen purposely by the video uploader but I find myself doubting that FNAF is purposely chosen on EVERY VIDEO.

The act of me being able to SEE the window opening and him not doing anything to stop it scared the shit out of me. In games, we usually don’t get the “in between” action. The object is usually opened, or closed.
I've played Darkwood, I know a simple strat to this "invasion." Step 1. Hoard all your important possessions into one room, preferably the bathroom or the room with the least amount of windows. Step 2. YEET THE TV. Step 3. Board up any remaining doors or windows and hump your lantern in the corner, making sure you have a 100% view of the room at all times. Step 4. ¿¿¿[PERISH]??? Step 5. Wake up laying on the floor the next morning in a completely separate room wondering what the Hell happened. Psh, easy.

Would be interesting if it was a horror game that was sort of about the Mandela effect, like you play as someone who is experiencing a shifting timeline and people around you remember events differently, and this progressively gets worse as reality just warps around you.

The developer did a fantastic job. There should be an update to the jumpscare though. This would easily be one of the creepiest games if there was a nasssttttyyyy jumpscare, with some variations.
I mean, his 3 Scary Games Intros and the old era of Darkiplier are some good examples of Mark pulling off horror mode on us (obviously the 3 Scary Games Intros are helped alot by good ol’ Lixian & the other editors but yeah).

I believe theres a thing in Spooky's Jumpscares Mansion where if you pause the game for a few minutes, even staying in a room with no "danger", you'll get jumpscared by some omnious funky floatin' head. Been awhile though seen ive seen the game but I think it's there if I'm not mistaken.
So the face that killed you on your good run was, in Mandela Effect 'lore,' the face that appears in TV sets that messes the world up. So I think you have to do something about the TV in your bedroom before the end of the night in order to stop that from getting you.
The amount of times Mark has said "Am I recording?" makes me think there are hours upon hours of unrecorded nonsense by this man somewhere out there. Or, well, it isn't anywhete in particular, but you get what I mean.

Point and click horror is so good, everything about this game was so cool and unsettling except maybe the main jumpscare, the others were good. I think they have to rely on atmosphere and sound so much, plus you're stationary and can't really run.
A similar game that's point and click horror and had terrifying atmosphere was Barrow Hill. There's a lot of reading so it's a little slow paced (very old game, too) and there's truly very little moments when you're in danger, but the lore, sound design and atmosphere was chilling. I think what made it even scarier for me was that a month after I beat it (i was 12??? at the time??) i had a paralizing nightmare where as i struggled to wake up and move or call for help, a voice coming from a telephone line hissed "If you dont finish the game... you will be cursed for generations" When i finally woke up shaken from the weird dream, it took me minutes to realize i had already beaten the game (good ending, too). I never uninstalled a game so fast, I became a littlesticious that day.
the last jumpscare guy was the same character from mandela catalouge who travels between television and abducts children. so maybe you have to occasionally close the tv like you were closing the vent and garage door

Dude, after watching Wendigoon talk about Mandela Catalog and seeing all the religious symbology it makes it 200% Scarier. Taking the blood of the lamb and smearing it against the alternate version of Jesus is Horrifying. Using audio and pictures from Mandela Catalog as well was a Phenomenal Touch, 10/10.

As bad as everyone is saying jumscares are (and I agree, don’t get me wrong), the one in the attic with the strange painting and the one at 22:16 genuinely got me
This is one of the few times where I wish the jumpscares were better. I found myself legitimately scared the first time the window opened on Mark, but then that really lackluster jumpscare happened and I just lost all sense of dread after knowing failure was met with something almost goofy looking. Apart from that the atmosphere was great! Except after Mark found he could just go back and forth between two places.
I think it will be better if there is no jumpscare. Just make the shadow comes to you and make something like that image in Mark’s thumbnail of Maple County. I think so
The fact that the Intruder seemed to be the one to get him when he was able to make it past 6AM and keep the garage door and the vent closed tells me that the TV is more important than would seem to be on first glance, but the fact that it turns back on so quickly only makes me confused as to what your strategy should be in dealing with that. Maybe just try to turn it off between dealing with the other two entryways just to slow the Intruder down or see if he's there?

What I've appreciated about analogue horror is that even though there's a lot of general cribbing, it's nowhere close to the stifling antagonism to creativity that was youtube unfiction projects ten years ago when Slenderman was king. Not only was it filled to the brim with marble hornets rip-offs, but any genuinely unique project would get actively ignored and sidelined by a fanbase that was obsessed with only one thing: tall bois. So sure, the focus on MC is a bit annoying, but as long as new channels with unique ideas are still getting time in the spotlight, it's progress.

I've played Darkwood, I know a simple strat to this "invasion."
Step 1. Hoard all your important possessions into one room, preferably the bathroom or the room with the least amount of windows.

To be fair, it was magnitudes scarier than the things actually meant to scare him in the game.
So the face that killed you on your good run was, in Mandela Effect 'lore,' the face that appears in TV sets that messes the world up. So I think you have to do something about the TV in your bedroom before the end of the night in order to stop that from getting you.

Point and click horror is so good, everything about this game was so cool and unsettling except maybe the main jumpscare, the others were good. I think they have to rely on atmosphere and sound so much, plus you're stationary and can't really run.
The only *intended* jumpscare that got me was when he smeared the blood on the painting

A similar game that's point and click horror and had terrifying atmosphere was Barrow Hill. There's a lot of reading so it's a little slow paced (very old game, too) and there's truly very little moments when you're in danger, but the lore, sound design and atmosphere was chilling. I think what made it even scarier for me was that a month after I beat it (i was 12??? at the time??) i had a paralizing nightmare where as i struggled to wake up and move or call for help, a voice coming from a telephone line hissed "If you dont finish the game... you will be cursed for generations" When i finally woke up shaken from the weird dream, it took me minutes to realize i had already beaten the game (good ending, too). I never uninstalled a game so fast, I became a littlesticious that day.
The fact that Mark was completely surprised and caught off guard instantly made this video feel a million times more genuine and real to me

Dude, after watching Wendigoon talk about Mandela Catalog and seeing all the religious symbology it makes it 200% Scarier. Taking the blood of the lamb and smearing it against the alternate version of Jesus is Horrifying. Using audio and pictures from Mandela Catalog as well was a Phenomenal Touch, 10/10.

This is one of the few times where I wish the jumpscares were better. I found myself legitimately scared the first time the window opened on Mark, but then that really lackluster jumpscare happened and I just lost all sense of dread after knowing failure was met with something almost goofy looking. Apart from that the atmosphere was great! Except after Mark found he could just go back and forth between two places.
I think it will be better if there is no jumpscare. Just make the shadow comes to you and make something like that image in Mark’s thumbnail of Maple County. I think so

The fact that the Intruder seemed to be the one to get him when he was able to make it past 6AM and keep the garage door and the vent closed tells me that the TV is more important than would seem to be on first glance, but the fact that it turns back on so quickly only makes me confused as to what your strategy should be in dealing with that. Maybe just try to turn it off between dealing with the other two entryways just to slow the Intruder down or see if he's there?
Other than that jump-scare with the windows, this game legitimately creeps me out- So, I probably shouldn’t be watching this at 2:47AM, but eh, what’s a little spook every now and then?

As someone who's been taking Thalasin for years, I resent the implication that experiencing dorcelessness causes home invasions! What I've appreciated about analogue horror is that even though there's a lot of general cribbing, it's nowhere close to the stifling antagonism to creativity that was youtube unfiction projects ten years ago when Slenderman was king. Not only was it filled to the brim with marble hornets rip-offs, but any genuinely unique project would get actively ignored and sidelined by a fanbase that was obsessed with only one thing: tall bois.
So sure, the focus on MC is a bit annoying, but as long as new channels with unique ideas are still getting time in the spotlight, it's progress.
