I think it could be done with pre-made rooms that appear right as soon as the player opens a door, or they are preloaded, unloaded, and a new room is loaded in as soon as the door gets closed.
In Buff Imposter there's a moment that literally feels like it's from a cartoon. Mark opens the door and gets spooked by a picture of the Imposter. He closes the door and walks away. He goes back and checks the room again, there's the picture still there. He closes it and walks away again. He checks on it one last time, and instead of a picture, it's actually the Imposter. Funniest shit I've ever seen.
The buff impostor is actually quite the gentlemen. He greets you, explains his intentions, and attempts to perform said intentions, all whilst being polite.
I bet he will. Lixian has been communicating with Mark, most likely, and slowly connecting the initial Lunky idea to his main storyline. Be aware that Lunky may have been created by "Mark" (Actor) and not the IRL Mark.

Why are all of yames games so unsettling. I’m not sure if it’s the style, pacing, or subtle idea that something is very, *very* wrong. One of my favorite developers by far.
It reminds me a lot of Junji Ito and his manga, a medium that works when there is few if only one color, horror that works like pictures or panels that progress gradually, and the mysterious Lovecraftian cosmic horror and body horror elements that draws on a deeply unsettling terror rather than cheap jumpscares.
I personally find the body horror disturbing. He makes such good games where someone human gets slowly subsumed and replaced by something that isn't human

After seeing various of their games, Yames is possibly one of my favourite horror developers. They’ve nailed a type of horror I haven’t seen too many people pull off.
Yeah it's almost nostalgic. Reminds me when I was a kid scrolling around obscure point-and-click Flash horror games online. Which makes it all the scarier.
I think it has something to do with ambiguity of it all. Like, the way the unidentifiable noises work in tandem with the completely fucked visuals. You can never quite fully understand what's happening at any giving moment and it makes your brain run wild with terrifying ideas. Plus there's no obnoxious jumpscares to break the tension. It's definitely my favorite type of horror. The only kind that actually gets under my skin.
With both the writing, eerie music and just the monotone art style... I honestly cannot figure out what makes it so terrifying but his work is indeed something that instills fear.
I love how Lixian has incorporated his new baby into everything. I hope as time goes on, it’ll be like ‘take your child to work day’ where he learns his dad’s job.

Yames creates a masterpiece of horror every single time. Majority of the time I don't even have struggle with Lovecraftian horror but every game developed so far has fascinated and horrified me
Yames’ games are SO good. I always go into it doubting how unsettling it could actually be, and then I am always pleasantly surprised by something I can’t imagine dreaming up. I think one of the best things in his games is his use of pixilated images that the brain can’t process and actually identify. It’s fantastic

That's why there are so many horror stories about the deep sea or space. So theoretically speaking, every human being is horrified by Lovecraftian horror to some extend. At least that's what I'm thinking. If not scared by an image or words, then perhaps by the idea - or if it happened in real life.
@@Trickpants cosmic horror from the books is fine because you can visualise your own nightmare along the loosely described terms. However In the game you get a pre-imagined and pre-visualised thing that you as the player aren't imagining from descriptions.for me it wasn't scary because i was more confused about wtf I'm looking at. And had to pause several times to try and see properly. This was also emphasized for me when the screen was black and the descriptions rolled in about the gestation. But then had all of my interest dashed when I'm just looking at a shadowy mass of flesh with an umbilical cord sticking out.

Yames' games are so fitting for the Eldritch horrors they depict. Even though you see the thing, it's so wrong and strange that you can't comprehend what it is.
Lovecraft’s stories only really work if the horrors are impossible to visualize, so the way Yames’ style obscures the details perfectly mirrors how we can fill in those same visual gaps from the stories with [*confused screaming*].
Yames hits that lovecraft “vibe” shockingly well, in a way I’ve not seen anyone else try. Like, it’s not just eyes and tentacles, it’s that sickening feeling from the implications of what happens, definitely added to by the crunchy visual style, which hides all the details that would let us easily justify what in the fresh holy heck we just saw. Good stuff.
@That One TH-camr Hence why I think GooTheMighty was right about Yames' style. One of the key aspects of Lovecraft's work is the fear of the unknown, of what you cannot see or comprehend. Your mind creates a different reality to make you understand what it is you're seeing or experiencing. I'm not an expert on Lovecraft's work but I've read a few tales and most describe situations where you don't know what's going on most of the time so your mind can wander and try to understand, and when you finally come to it, it's already too late and you're staring at a void. You can't turn away even if you're filled with horror and disgust. You're just drawn to it and you cannot escape.
Idk about Lovecraftian but it's cool for sure. It definitely doesn't fit the themes of cosmic horror though, which is the genre he grandfathered and what his writing was known for.
Yames' games (heh) have an absolutely horrifying art style, and i love to see their work the single color + black with heavy dithering is cool, and especially in the Well game, it makes everything so much more ambiguous than it should be
I genuinely believe that Yames could be on his way to being a modern day Lovecraft. The eerie unsettling nature of his games evokes the same spine chilling horror I get when I read Lovecraft, and can't wait to see each new game released.

Games require a visual aid, that visual aid completely removes any ability at imposing the cosmic horror and existential dread of lovecraft's best works. It's eerie and unsettling, but implying that that is the main draw of lovecraftian horror is, in my opinion, doing it a massive disservice. Many games have tried to replicate lovecraft, and while some come close, all fail to invoke the feelings of the original stories as vividly. Imagination is almost always going to beat out actual visuals. The medium of video games can entertain in a lot of ways, and has so many more options open to it than stories do, but I do not believe it can ever achieve what lovecraft's stories have. It simply isn't built for that.

I still think it’s cool that when Mark gave instructions about the piece of wood for the second game image and did the whole splitting and re-piecing it together it actually looked like some sort of person praising something
Obviously the game "Dying of Thirst" wasn't too spooky, but it operates on the interesting and relatable memory of when you were a kid and you really needed a drink of water at 11pm, but who knows what's out there....
It reminded me of when I had a fever and I kept dreaming of me calling out for my mom for water, and everytime I was about to take it it faded to black pixels and it repeated until I woke up.
I have had chronic insomnia since I was a kid, and that was always the scariest shit to do. Even though I was on the same floor as the kitchen, and didn't have to walk very far, it was still absolutely terrifying.
I can imagine Mark asking Lixian to edit something and Lixian just goes "Okay, hold this for me, please" and hands the baby to Mark, and Mark actually holds the animated baby while Lixian's character does whatever it is that he's been asked to do.

THIS 3 scary games are by far my favorite series from Markiplier. It feels also like Lixian has more play room to go crazy with the editing and I am living for it. Markiplier has been such an amazing inspriration and I've been watching for so long. Finally started my own channel, mainly horror. I started just for fun but now I'm trying to get my first 100subbs and it's been kinda surreal.

Yames creates a masterpiece of horror every single time. Majority of the time I don't even have struggle with Lovecraftian horror but every game developed so far has fascinated and horrified me

Yames’ games are SO good. I always go into it doubting how unsettling it could actually be, and then I am always pleasantly surprised by something I can’t imagine dreaming up. I think one of the best things in his games is his use of pixilated images that the brain can’t process and actually identify. It’s fantastic

@@Trickpants I think cosmic horror is the most terrifying, since we're usually scared of things that we haven't discovered yet. That's why there are so many horror stories about the deep sea or space. So theoretically speaking, every human being is horrified by Lovecraftian horror to some extend. At least that's what I'm thinking. If not scared by an image or words, then perhaps by the idea - or if it happened in real life.
@@Trickpants cosmic horror from the books is fine because you can visualise your own nightmare along the loosely described terms. However In the game you get a pre-imagined and pre-visualised thing that you as the player aren't imagining from descriptions.for me it wasn't scary because i was more confused about wtf I'm looking at. And had to pause several times to try and see properly. This was also emphasized for me when the screen was black and the descriptions rolled in about the gestation. But then had all of my interest dashed when I'm just looking at a shadowy mass of flesh with an umbilical cord sticking out.

Yames' games are so fitting for the Eldritch horrors they depict. Even though you see the thing, it's so wrong and strange that you can't comprehend what it is.
Lovecraft’s stories only really work if the horrors are impossible to visualize, so the way Yames’ style obscures the details perfectly mirrors how we can fill in those same visual gaps from the stories with [*confused screaming*].

Yames hits that lovecraft “vibe” shockingly well, in a way I’ve not seen anyone else try. Like, it’s not just eyes and tentacles, it’s that sickening feeling from the implications of what happens, definitely added to by the crunchy visual style, which hides all the details that would let us easily justify what in the fresh holy heck we just saw. Good stuff.

@That One TH-camr Hence why I think GooTheMighty was right about Yames' style. One of the key aspects of Lovecraft's work is the fear of the unknown, of what you cannot see or comprehend. Your mind creates a different reality to make you understand what it is you're seeing or experiencing. I'm not an expert on Lovecraft's work but I've read a few tales and most describe situations where you don't know what's going on most of the time so your mind can wander and try to understand, and when you finally come to it, it's already too late and you're staring at a void. You can't turn away even if you're filled with horror and disgust. You're just drawn to it and you cannot escape.
Idk about Lovecraftian but it's cool for sure. It definitely doesn't fit the themes of cosmic horror though, which is the genre he grandfathered and what his writing was known for.

the single color + black with heavy dithering is cool, and especially in the Well game, it makes everything so much more ambiguous than it should be
I genuinely believe that Yames could be on his way to being a modern day Lovecraft. The eerie unsettling nature of his games evokes the same spine chilling horror I get when I read Lovecraft, and can't wait to see each new game released.

I absolutely agree! His games really draw up the same feelings in me that Lovecraft’s does- both are genuinely unsettling and its hard to piece together what exactly is going to happen next, which is refreshing!
Eldritch horror is where it's at
Games require a visual aid, that visual aid completely removes any ability at imposing the cosmic horror and existential dread of lovecraft's best works. It's eerie and unsettling, but implying that that is the main draw of lovecraftian horror is, in my opinion, doing it a massive disservice. Many games have tried to replicate lovecraft, and while some come close, all fail to invoke the feelings of the original stories as vividly. Imagination is almost always going to beat out actual visuals. The medium of video games can entertain in a lot of ways, and has so many more options open to it than stories do, but I do not believe it can ever achieve what lovecraft's stories have. It simply isn't built for that.

Obviously the game "Dying of Thirst" wasn't too spooky, but it operates on the interesting and relatable memory of when you were a kid and you really needed a drink of water at 11pm, but who knows what's out there....
It reminded me of when I had a fever and I kept dreaming of me calling out for my mom for water, and everytime I was about to take it it faded to black pixels and it repeated until I woke up.
I have had chronic insomnia since I was a kid, and that was always the scariest shit to do. Even though I was on the same floor as the kitchen, and didn't have to walk very far, it was still absolutely terrifying.

THIS 3 scary games are by far my favorite series from Markiplier. It feels also like Lixian has more play room to go crazy with the editing and I am living for it.
