03/23/24 Edit: I’ve gotten quite a few DMs and messages regarding the validity of all the information I gave in this video and I want to make it 100% clear that when working on the video I did contact both the Reddit user, their friend and TheMuteTroll who just blocked me.
This video was made when I was still learning youtube. I don’t plan on making another video that’s as heavy as this one or about this person and situation, I can’t share more information since I was asked not to, I genuinely didn’t expect this video to get the views it has gotten so far.

Man, TMT was and is my favorite TH-camr. I used to watch him all day, every day, and I still revisit his channel often. Today was one of the times I revisit him, and I stumbled upon this video. This was my childhood. To be honest, I still do not believe it for 2 reasons: 1. He went from exposing liars to being one himself? 2. You asking us to subscribe at the end of this video is kind of suspicious becauae this is a serious thing.

Hey, I'm excited to see you experiment with new video styles/ideas! I have a few foods for thought though about how you can improve:
From the title, description and thumbnailing of the video, it's clear that you've gotten inspired by the drama video essay genre (SunnyV2, InternetAjay, etc.) While this video genre often takes cues from true crime and stylises the editing and script to be as formal as possible, I like how you kept a casual, conversational tone and gave your own voice to the subject matter. It's a refreshing change of pace.
However, the video came across as too short. The story of TheMuteTroll feels summarised rather than explained and I feel like experimenting with the storytelling of future topics and individuals would improve the engagement value of your future works immensely. That doesn't mean you can't make 3 minute videos or that you should exaggerate your story away from what actually happened. You can tell a good story in 3 minutes with how you write your script and you can follow research and journalism ethics to respect your audience.
How you play with the topics you're talking about with care and honesty is what makes the difference between a decent video essay and an excellent one.

Thanks for the tips, I definitely cut the video too short, I had about 38 minutes of footage but as it turns with most of my videos the editing really kills half of the content and it’s mostly to me being lazy with my lines, I script some of my videos and generally have an idea of what to say so I’ll repeat lines over and over but sometimes don’t get a good version and that damages other lines and points that branch from that one line.

@@kodekYT One exercise that helps me is the micro-essay, a video essay that's 1 minute in length. Challenging yourself to write in depth about a topic within a limited time frame can help you learn the skills of cutting out padding/filler and writing with brevity whilst maintaining the message of your video.
I hate to self-promote on other peoples' comment sections but my Infohazards video is a part of a bigger collab with The Essay Library, which is full of examples of what 1 minute of video length can get you. It could give you some inspiration :D
