A smp that wasn't mentioned but was also very popular is a series called mianite. Predated smplive and was a live streamed series with roleplay. The impressive thing about mianite is how popular it was it was partially responsible for the first two streamers on twitch to receive 1 million followers (syndicate, then captiansparklez.) Omgitzfirefoxx became the biggest female twitch streamer and held that place for years during her time on the series. and when ever they streamed minecraft was the most viewed category on twitch . I even remember a few times where silly things that happened on stream hit trending on twitter. It might not hit the numbers that streamers hit now but, Mianite definetly feels like the precursor to like dsmp and life steal.
YOU HAVE TO MENTION THE YOGSCAST SMPS. Its literally one of the oldest and also the first to popularize the original Tekkit modpack. They are also the first to incorporate roleplay in the smp.
@@In_The_Base in terms of smp Im thinking about moonquest, the tekkit server and the yogpack server. They dont have official names I think but in spirit its the exact same as modern smps (and in my opinion cooler because of all the crazy cool mods). Like different yogscast groups would have their own playthroughs with their own themes and occasionally theyd make cameos in each other's series. Like Duncan's mad science/cybernetics aesthetic coming in contact with Sjinn's farmer roleplay.
@@kice1102 one major difference is how they were formatted with the yogscast and other channel having it be a series that are numbered and that are easy to follow instead of the being stream highlights or not being numbered (I know some series still do it like that but popular smp’s like the dream smp or smp live deviate from that format) and while it might be a thing of having the algorithm pick up the videos I do like the series format more
Dude, this is so underrated! SMP content has definitely taken a turn. People are getting tired of the fake and hyper edited smp stuff, and turning to classics such as Hermitcraft.
3rd life smp? Along with the entire "life" series? Origins? Empires? X life? The rest of hermitcraft? Scicraft? Naked and afraid? (I'm just giving you a hard time, love the video) Hey who knows, future video?
Judging by the quality of the video I thought that you'd have atleast 50k subs but after realizing that the number was only 200 it left me quite impressed. Well deserved sub.
"Damn this video seems pretty neat, I wonder how-" "oh 42 subs.... Make that 43 :)" } For real man good stuff here. Hope to see you continue in the future.
Good video one thing I’d mention is that dreamsmp isn’t the first smp with the concept of scripting stories and events there was mianite that did it before they did (also the players weren’t aware of the script so it felt more real)
Ive gotta say, the algorythm has for no reason gotten much better at its job. I see videos ive already watched less often and more and more do i see small channels in my recommended. Its gotten to the point that i didnt even realise how small this channel was until i looked at the comments.
and then here i am in belgium where dutch speaking youtube had 'the kingdom' with a fk ton of yters all having kingdoms and viewers being invited with massive lore and wars actual songs and rap battles, what made it even better was the fact that the benelux is tiny and basically all the yters knew each other irl so the irl lore is also insane, and all of this in like 2012 - 2015
I love that the Spanish SMPs are mostly a handful of TH-camrs/streamers playing and having a fun time with each other where the role-playing is just some special events. It is more enjoyable and honest than these newer ones. Good examples are: Elitecraft, Piolacraft, Minecrfat extremo, Permadeath, etc
I tried to become the MOST POWERFUL player on this smp, stealing the ? from my enemies and becoming the strongest player. u see, it all started ? days ago when I got attacked in my base/my dog got killed/I went on vacation/I got betrayed. *shows footage* Wait wait wait, ? u say? because on this server, everytime u kill someone u get/upgrade ur ?. this template for ur slop smp is free to use, enjoy
I actually started a community smp with close friends last year and it went on pretty well for about a month or two, we had a slowly expanding border and little shops and everything. It was honestly one of the most soothing experiences ive ever had.
ahh yes, the famous 2 week multiplayer minecraft phase. i've had like 5 servers with my friends over the course of like 4 years. none have lasted more than a month, but their memories are still cherished and referenced by us alot
I do love hermitcraft but i sure am glad that it didn't stick like that forever. I love the balance right now of a huge pvp smp and a huge friendly smp
My favorite smp rn is Content SMP, where the plot point is continued by the member custom mod that’ll be add to the server since are chunk of the member are modder
The SDMP is a pretty SMPLIVE like experience, I like it a ton and it kind of feels like a revival of all the creators in SMPLIVE that didn't yet have their chance to shine in a survival SMP. You should cover it sometime! Enjoyed this video a ton, subbed for your enthusiastic character and good writing. Keep it going, tsu :)
This is why I’m glad that the smp that me and my friend started is completely vanilla minecraft. Just simple and fun. For anyone curious its called the BrainDead SMP Its not about views for us, its about having fun.
It's sad to see the state of SMPs nowadays, it's just slop for kids to eat up rather than an interesting story told to us like Dream SMP. It's sad that these SMPs went thru MrBeast-ification (if thats how u call it) but atleast hermitcraft exists and is still very massive
Woah great video man. I'm grateful to see some people actually making informational and funny videos about topics i enjoy. Not to mention it's 30 minutes man! I can tell you really spent a lot of time editing and writing this and i hope to see more videos in this style, because your personality and passion is in contrast to HUNDREDS of other videos that are similar in style, but just boring. Thanks you for making such a great video on a topic a enjoy, you got my subscription man.
MindCrack was such a big part of my childhood. Especially season 2, I have watched every VintageBeef season 2 video a few times over the years. That castle was so cool to me and the Gravel door (ifyky) was the first time i ever saw a really cool redstone system.
All these years later, finding out Guude ruined Mindcrack trying to turn it corporate just kinda sucks. I loved that server, I can't believe *that's* what killed it.
I loved the video, and I also love the type of smps that are more about the sillies and laughs like the qsmp or sdmp. Great content and a good fucking underrated channel
I was too young for Mindcrack, and I wanted to get into the other SMPs. But technoblade, Vannoss, Wilbur and others were just too griefy. I always found their personalities coarse. Hermitcraft was just right for me
honestly, near the end, talking about the lack of passion in the server, i remembered a spanish smp called EliteCraft, it was an amazing series that may come back, created by ElRichMc who also created PermaDeath some years ago (and a second season is "coming soon")
All i wanted to do for an SMP was do a medieval styled one, with structures looking from the era, castles, ect, maybe have a ton of pathways, like elden ring almost, and add one thing - Golden coins/currency, and see what happens and such.
29:10 i think you can actually see a lot of tecnoblade's influence in newer creators, especially the parts were tecnoblade is doing something, and then it cuts to him explaining in a different world, and another thing, i think whats happening to smps is pretty much what happened before, what starts as a heart to heart interaction and fun ideas, them quickly becomes a content farm that aims for children's attention, which is what ended up killing minecraft before, which relly reinforces the cyclical nature of minecraft in my opnion.
ofc, things get old after awhile, it makes complete since you dont get the same excitement at plain vanilla minecraft the 100th time seeing it. the only problem is that the servers were focused on fun and friends back then, and now its all for fame and money. i'd get bored if i tried to rewatch all of these old smp's i used to love, but i still miss the culture back then.
I feel that nowadays for series such as grain’s life series and hermitcraft people’s love for the series stem from their love for the creator playing. Feels like you are watching a funny group of friends again instead of a scripted story with crafted characters
I like the premise of the video but I have a few criticisms: - I would recommend backing up from the mic when yelling because it sounds awful no matter how low I turn the volume. - This video I think does not properly express the longevity of Hermitcraft. While a lot of other SMPs burned hard and burned fast, Hermitcraft has been very careful to keep the series somewhat fresh without going so far as to alienate their viewers and as a result has gained a very dedicated and very happy fanbase. It feels more laid back than a lot of other series and I can guarantee that it is a hell of a lot less stressful for the members to participate compared to a lot of other modern series. This, in combination with the fact that the biggest drama in its history was incredibly tame in the grand scheme of things, I think has really contributed to its survival. And a not-really-a-criticism: The Hermitcraft members and co. sometimes host their own lifesteal-esque SMPs around once a year. The whole series is barely ever full on conflict until the very end and generally stays in the realm of tasteful and thoroughly entertaining mischief which some may or may not like but I really enjoyed.
I've only seen one comment mentioning my favourite SMP named Mianite. It came before SMPLive and had scripted events like the DreamSMP did, though it was much more fantasy based. I watched CaptainSparklez perspective most of the time and I remember having to book it home after school because the stream started 10 minutes after school finished. That series was actually the reason I made a Twitch account. I'd seriously recommend it to anyone who likes the DreamSMP
You forgot a lot of things, like mentioning the fact that technical Minecraft SMPs exist, a lot of them, full of content creators that really have impacted the Minecraft community overall. Some creators that were on Mindcrack (like Docm77) were also on Sci-Craft (arguably the biggest and longest technical Minecraft SMP to ever exist). Sci-Craft also hosted players like ilmango (widely known for his redstone inventios), gnembon (now an actual Mojang employee) and we could keep going. Not to mention there's still a whole lot of technical Minecraft SMPs as well.
Gonna agree with one of the other comments that I wish there was a mention of the Yogscast multiplayer series. Their original LP which became Shadow of Israphel, the many modpack series, etc. Those and Mindcrack were my first exposure to SMPs. Gonna add here that I'm also glad that Hermitcraft has had such longevity. I as a Mindcrack fan used to dislike Hermitcraft until I gave MumboJumbo a shot many years ago.
I played Minecraft back in 2010 and I can’t say there weren’t crazy wars and factions. I also can’t say things weren’t slower but they were still chaotic
Bro great storytelling, scriptwriting, and editing. You may be a small channel, but this video was well done even for your sheer size. I thought you had probably 20-30k subs 😅, well now your one sub closer.
Amazing SMP retrospective video honestly, even if you should have definitely talked about the later days of Hermitcraft and how it not giving up eventually DID pay off, with Seasons 6 & above becoming its very best and so on. _(Also, SMP overview with zero mentions of Grian? Damn)._ An interesting and thought-provoking tale of how long-running Minecraft series were born and killed... And how despite all that Hermitcraft managed to live and reach this modern day and age stronger than ever! Just like how I like to say... *Mindcrack walked so Hermitcraft could run,* and boy oh boy did Hermitcraft run indeed!
The SDSMP is awesome Jay short has done a great job of making it entertaining with tons of different mods and since there are so many people on the server, you get a mix of whatever you like.
I do love the life series, I’m a little tired on hermitcraft but I always come back to watch all the life series, and I also watch lifesteal smp who feels like a chill smp a smp where everyone are just having fun!
to anyone new watching this, may i recommend Dr.rat and content smp? A crew of modders, slightly scripted, but more roleplayed over scripted events, with everyone being able to add their own mod/mods to the server.
Just dropping a comment to say great video tsu! Cannot believe reading some of these comments you had under 50subs about 48 hours ago. Love the content, keep it up!
the only smps ive ever played on were private ones with friends that were not at all structured and had no real goals besides beat the game. personally i think thats more fun than the current definition of an smp
though it's amazing, I wouldn't call it revolutionary as it's basically a server with members from servers like hermitcraft, and putting them in an SMP that's similarly themed to lifesteal, just a mix of two huge SMPs
@@KwikBR no worries everyone makes mistakes, and no one has all of the information for a topic memorized I'm just a huge fan of Minecraft smp history lol
Great video, nice to see small channels with quality videos popping up on my home page. This video I would say is very professionally done especially for someone so ‘small’ I hope to replicate one day lol. Anyways I just wanted to throw in another very popular smp called Mianite which I also consider one of the grandfathers of modern smps. Most of what they did there was different from other smps at the time where they introduced storylines into the series. Still waiting on season 3 but it’s all but gone 😢
I love the video , one lil thing that bothered me is that it felt like you were rushing the recording and i could barely understand some parts sounding like mumbling
I’m surprised that you didn’t mention Mianite at all, it was the largest SMP on twitch for quite a while. It was also the first to add a written story to the mix, way way way before Dream SMP
Personally, the early DreamSMP had a very strong influence on me and how i watch SMP's, Especially story based ones. Me and a bucj of friends have tried multiple times to recreate such feats (just for fun not for content) and almost every single time it just fell flat after a few big moments. It was really had go figure out how exactly to go through with it for us. When one died, we just waited a few months and tried again later. This would continue for a few years until, at one point, we struck gold. Back in January we tried again, but we changed up how we went through everything. Soon, a giant tumeline spanning multiple thousands of years were established. Its currently still going too! I also think its important to say that while i do upload the full things on my channel, i don't do it for money at all. The seever fully runs on our commitment to the story and characters. so I'm really glad the DreamSMP showed me that type of server. (Also I think it's good to note that this isn't any type of self promo, I can personally say that you SHOULDN'T check it out because the story is kinda complicated and weird. Plus I don't use this channel for those uploads anyway)
This is very different from what we could see from the hispanic minecraft community. SMPs (they where not named like that, and they where always full of cool mods) where everywhere. Karmaland is a good example.
I grew up on Minecraft TH-camrs like Stampylongnose. A lot of his content was centered around having fun with his friends and going on adventures. Admittedly he wasn't the greatest at the game, but that didn't matter back then. What he had was an amazing personality n' charm and a desire to entertain. Fast forward to modern Minecraft content and it's just sad. The bar for being a sucessful Minecraft content creator has been raised significantly since the early days of Minecraft, where being good at PvP and knowing how to exploit even the most miniscule aapects of the game's mechanics is the bare minimum requirement if you want to be sucessful. Kids attention spans are decreasing and having silly adventures with your friends is no longer engaging to them. Fast-paced edits and high-stakes content are the only thing that keeps them watching, let alone entertain them. I just wanna go back to the early days of Minecraft when it felt more simple. Not in the sense of game mechanics and features, but back when it felt like the game was for everyone to enjoy and anyone could be an creator by being charismatic and/or having unique ideas.
Being in the creator space, I can also say there has been pushback on our end against slop SMPs. Rattling off the top of my head, Unorthoblocks, Channel64, Fever Dream, Fractured, Echocraft (which I'm in), etc., all cropped up just as friend groups, basically, and have all worked hard to retain that air of genuine passion. In EC at least, we make sure anybody who joins isn't there to turn EC into Lifesteal version 845.91.9. We don't want that. It isn't fun.

It might not hit the numbers that streamers hit now but, Mianite definetly feels like the precursor to like dsmp and life steal.
ong bruh best series on yt
i 100% believe that tecnoblade's character in the dreamsmp was one of the best charcters out there, i only watched dreamsmp because of him
True

YOU HAVE TO MENTION THE YOGSCAST SMPS. Its literally one of the oldest and also the first to popularize the original Tekkit modpack. They are also the first to incorporate roleplay in the smp.
Yeah it’s weird no one mentions them since they were one of the first people to do smp’s and role plays such as Shadow of Israphel
(I'm just giving you a hard time, love the video)
Hey who knows, future video?
a follow up expanding on the ending (newer smps) would be very interesting
You forgot afterlife smp
Oh yeah, I also watched that one!
Afterlife smp, the best combination of origin smp and x life smp
He only talks about the most popular ones
"QSMP is still kinda new" Chief it's ending
It ended, but there is going to be qsmp 2
"chief" ew
Judging by the quality of the video I thought that you'd have atleast 50k subs but after realizing that the number was only 200 it left me quite impressed. Well deserved sub.
"Damn this video seems pretty neat, I wonder how-"
"oh 42 subs.... Make that 43 :)"

For real man good stuff here. Hope to see you continue in the future.
It has grown by over 100...

@@shanewaslost4283 Dude, you wrote this two hours ago and it has grown by over 100 again
Its gotten to the point that i didnt even realise how small this channel was until i looked at the comments.
and then here i am in belgium where dutch speaking youtube had 'the kingdom' with a fk ton of yters all having kingdoms and viewers being invited
with massive lore and wars actual songs and rap battles, what made it even better was the fact that the benelux is tiny and basically all the yters knew each other irl so the irl lore is also insane, and all of this in like 2012 - 2015
I love that the Spanish SMPs are mostly a handful of TH-camrs/streamers playing and having a fun time with each other where the role-playing is just some special events.
*shows footage* Wait wait wait, ? u say? because on this server, everytime u kill someone u get/upgrade ur ?.
this template for ur slop smp is free to use, enjoy
lmao
Oops I had like 2 minutes left lmao, anyway a big video about the SDMP would still be fun, would love to watch it!
This is why I’m glad that the smp that me and my friend started is completely vanilla minecraft. Just simple and fun.
For anyone curious its called the BrainDead SMP
Its not about views for us, its about having fun.
It's sad to see the state of SMPs nowadays, it's just slop for kids to eat up rather than an interesting story told to us like Dream SMP. It's sad that these SMPs went thru MrBeast-ification (if thats how u call it) but atleast hermitcraft exists and is still very massive
Yeah I personally don’t see an end to hermitcraft but I really hope we get out of this generation smps
i resent the implication that the dream smp was an interesting story
Was the dream SMP not slop as well?
might i suggest...Content SMP? Search up Dr.rat and see where that goes.
@@krazysamuraiit absolutely was an interesting story
this is why, im working on a vr smp for the public. tired of these "gotta have conflict" servers
i just want to have some fun, and share it online.
Some VR SMPs already exist lol, like the ones cot Questcraft
@@DiamondDepthYT what do you mean by cot? and questcraft isnt an SMP. its a program to allow minecraft to run standalone on the quest
I loved that server, I can't believe *that's* what killed it.
not even funny how underated this guy is
fr how does he have 49 subscribers
it’s the accent
@@myrinsk na there are other people with the same accent who do these minecraft videos and still are nt this underated
@@kravatafhe’s blowing up now, already got 6x the subscribers
I loved the video, and I also love the type of smps that are more about the sillies and laughs like the qsmp or sdmp.
Great content and a good fucking underrated channel
I don't think Yogscast Tekkit gets enough credit for popularizing the idea of the SMP
20:34 I remember this, I was on holiday leaving the canary islands. Turned into a bleak day
If you count the Yogscast's stuff like Jaffa Factory, they predate RP in SMP by AAAAGES
Love how hermitcraft was just chillin in the background for most of the video
While I do like those old SMP's, the only reason I still like them today is because of nostalgia.
ofc, things get old after awhile, it makes complete since you dont get the same excitement at plain vanilla minecraft the 100th time seeing it. the only problem is that the servers were focused on fun and friends back then, and now its all for fame and money. i'd get bored if i tried to rewatch all of these old smp's i used to love, but i still miss the culture back then.
Did NOT expect the best Arkasia song to come in at the end there, fit perfectly.
Great video!
9:26 the image words are crazy bruh
it translates to "you f word n word, this is my ice cream"
22:22 THE WAY HE SAID MAPICC BRO
I feel that nowadays for series such as grain’s life series and hermitcraft people’s love for the series stem from their love for the creator playing. Feels like you are watching a funny group of friends again instead of a scripted story with crafted characters
This guy is a hidden gem bro
the hyper-edited SMP's are part of the reason i stopped making minecraft content. loving Hermitcraft and The Life Series (the Grain one) though
I like the premise of the video but I have a few criticisms:
- I would recommend backing up from the mic when yelling because it sounds awful no matter how low I turn the volume.
What's crazy is that Carson, Wilbur, and Dream all have a controversy related to them.
There are also SMP's with a lot of mods in them, but are designed in a way that no one has an advantage.
bro those fanfics are CRAZZZZYYYY
genuinely started tweaking when I heard outer wilds music, bravo to you for having impeccable taste
"damn you're underrated!" is probably flooding your notifications rn 💀great vid tho!
Damn)._
An interesting and thought-provoking tale of how long-running Minecraft series were born and killed...
You should talk about the Back To Beta SMP
Infuse, levels, and bliss also lifesteal. These SMP had great content, plus the betrayals were funny and great
I can't believe you didn't talk about the Back to Beta SMP!
What about the yogscast role play one
to anyone new watching this, may i recommend Dr.rat and content smp? A crew of modders, slightly scripted, but more roleplayed over scripted events, with everyone being able to add their own mod/mods to the server.
0:21 with the dsmp, you WERE involved, per example, the l’manburg election, the viewers got to vote for the president of lmanburg
this is for sure gonna blow up. nice video, nice editing, nice commentary.
Just dropping a comment to say great video tsu! Cannot believe reading some of these comments you had under 50subs about 48 hours ago. Love the content, keep it up!
the only smps ive ever played on were private ones with friends that were not at all structured and had no real goals besides beat the game. personally i think thats more fun than the current definition of an smp
the only smp I was checking up on from time to-time was MineShield, which's season 4 ended this year, so I'm smp-free since now.
i'll be honest, im surprised noone ever mentions the dutch minecraft kingdom series from 11 years ago. it was truly ahead of its time
mijn jeugd 🙏
Didn’t mention HTM smp.( pixelmon island is basically the same the same smp but with pixelmon mod)
What about the life series, it was extremely revolutionary in it's own right :(
though it's amazing, I wouldn't call it revolutionary as it's basically a server with members from servers like hermitcraft, and putting them in an SMP that's similarly themed to lifesteal, just a mix of two huge SMPs
@@KwikBR the life series came before Lifesteal tho??? How can it be inspired by it, some people even say that the life series inspired Lifesteal?
@@kellet-5746 i had no idea, my bad

super fucking underrated, only 50 subs, now made 51. remember me when you're famous
@tsupuffy I’m sorry to say you may or may not see a new smp appear sometime this summer or soon
Everyone in my friends smp wants to be the villain or most powerful when i just want friends hanging out and building😢
Death of technoblade was one of worst things that happened...
Technoblade will be in our hearts forever❤
Insanely good quality video for such a small channel, good job!
You should all try out The Pond or The Puddle, both are modded servers that doesnt focus on pvp and all that
ngl I literally just learned what SMP means. every time I've seen that acronym I've thought "super mario party".
:ddd
I’m surprised that you didn’t mention Mianite at all, it was the largest SMP on twitch for quite a while. It was also the first to add a written story to the mix, way way way before Dream SMP
"I won't go into QSMP as it is still really new" and I'm here like "wait, that's still going?"
It’s interesting how different countries have different servers like hermitcraft, here in Germany it’s called craftattack, but fell off after season 9
This is very different from what we could see from the hispanic minecraft community. SMPs (they where not named like that, and they where always full of cool mods) where everywhere. Karmaland is a good example.
Heck, even ClownPierce(i think) even said the most important part of the Lifesteal SMP is clout
GenericB and BdoubleO were the first people I watched play Minecraft. The good ol days.
I found a smp with smaller content creators that is similar to Hermitcraft. The smp is called Unorthoblocks and is currently season 3.
