Ahhh, looks the C23A Sherpa from my Air Force days back in the 80's. I always thought these little guys were so cute next to the bigger C141's and C5's of the time.
A good review of the Shorts 330/360, $80.00 AUD. I worked on the prototype SD-330, I left the company and worked at a RAF maintenance unit working of RAF/R.N Phantoms ended up as a Crew Chief working on BAC Lightnings, a fare change from working on the "Breadbox" as they were called in Belfast, or the Irish Concord !
Awesome career! My dad worked on Victors and Lightnings when he was in the Raf in the 70s :D

I used to see these landing along with 360s at Belfast City when I was a child, always was fascinated by them. Actually got a look around the prototype in the summer at the Ulster Aviation society - great experience. Was so happy to see this released, and I can confirm it's def the best offering from Blackbox so far. I've spent the day flying in VR in as many variants as I could. Definitely a bit of difference in the handling of the 360 to the 330, though subtle - really love the flight model. It runs perfectly also, definitely a bonus from the lower poly count, you soon don't notice it and appreciate the performance (fps).
All in all very happy, and I hope we see the developer keep updating it. Great video showcasing it.
I've created a Fsrealistic profile for both the 360 and 330, if anyone was looking one!
That would have been me quite possibly - I operated these into City many times for Gill Air in the early nineties.
I feel a purchase coming on…
Oh, and yes, they do handle differently. The 330 was susceptible to any power changes, as the prop wash went straight over the double fins/rudders - even the slightest change in power required the rudder to be re-trimmed - you became very good at trimming the aircraft and leaving everything alone as much as possible or you’d be forever ‘tweaking’. The 360, with the much larger single fin and no wash over it was far more stable.
Looks fun and useful - the visuals are on par with their Islander/Trislander and they are enough for me - Islander is one of my favorite planes in the sim and this looks a bit like their fat Uncle :) Will be getting this one. Blackbox does nice work, as do you, Mme Angel.
I'm not an aircraft dev so can't say why, but all blackbox's textures look flat, and like a CG pre render. Nothing looks very metallic. If they could pair up with an eye candy manufacturer like carenado, they would be top tier level addons. I think visually these aircraft, particularly the cockpit, land around FSX days.

Back in the late 1970's I used to fly from Darwin to Narbalek(3M's now defunct uranium mine) a couple of times a year. From memory (not reliable these days lol) it was a sherpa or equivalent. I remember a very loud and uncomfortable ride lol. The claim to fame of these flights was if it was during the wet season when the roads were closed they used to load 4 x 44gal (205 litre) drums of yellow cake behind the passenger seats for the flight back to Darwin, I always said that if we crashed and I survived I would just sit on one of these drums cause they were sure to find them. For me I'm happy to accept lower eye candy in the interests of performance and smooth frames. The system depth looks crazy deep - will need that manual! Absulutley love the sounds. Fair and honest review as usual.
Me too! A toilet and a lavatory is important in a airplane, even in the sim! Especially for 4-6 hours flights in the real life you need it, and when you are simulating, its important to do like in the real flight.

Not just British, but designed and built in Belfast's Short & Harland aircraft factory. originally known as the Shorts Skyvan, and as described by AvAngel as a flying brick! In Belfast it had two popular names - "the flying shoebox" and more popular "Flying breadvan" on account of the typical box-shaped vehicles that supplied bread direct from bakery to homes, the drawers holding the bread stretching the full length of the van from behind the driver to the rear doors - approximately ten-twelve feet long!.
As the Skyvan, it was used in many different roles - sky diving, short-field deliveries, military use and short route passengers, particularly on places like Argentina and Malaysia. A few are still in use sixty years on!
I had intended to buy this addon, until I say the interior!!! It's nothing more than a coloured technical drawing, very cartoonish - almost childish, reminding me of the early flightsims of the '80s! Just on that one point I won't be buying it. What a shame Black Box didn't progress to that one vital finish in making it look real.
Our local mosquito control has one Sc.7 skyvan and the line guys call it the "short bus" for a reason.
This plane was in "The Kingsmen" when the students were learning teamwork while skydiving. I want this bird!!!! The outside is dope!!!! I will agree the cockpit looks a little blahhh. But holy moly, take my money. Great video BTW, I think it's worth $1.29 for this plane or should I say planes.
It's a bit of a shame with the visuals, everything looks so synthetic and flat (what I call the "FSX freeware look"). Some parts even look almost untextured ... as if they are just uniformly colored areas. The Islander is indeed the same in that regard. I love the aircraft, the system depth looks good, and I will get it eventually, but right now 50 bucks is way too much for the provided visual standard. This is a "wait for a sale" aircraft for me. I have plenty of other birds to fly in the meantime.
Just want to note you can open the toilet door, the drone cam just doesn't let you click stuff.
You can even turn on the fans in the cockpit, small details are important to me :D
I think this one is maybe not for everyone. The full depth systems are probably a bit wasted on me so other than the different tail I don't see that much difference between the versions. This coupled with the not so great interior made the price tag feel a bit steep. I totally appreciate though that I'm maybe just not the target market and people who appreciate the greater systems depth probably get a lot more out of it. Now that I have it I'm sure I'll still enjoy flying it, i'll just be hoping that the cockpit gets a bit of TLC.
This is on my list as I've been wanting something with more than 12 seats. It's butt ugly but hey, it'll get you where you need to be. 😁
I would have LOVED such a higly detailed Shorts aircraft in my sim hangar, I flew the Skyvan myself a couple of times IRL, right seat, and I really loved it. But when I look at timestamp 04:00 this looks like pre FSX even. There might be system simulation to adore but this cockpit texturing puts me off right away. It's a shame, really. But I can't imagine to spend hours in it and I won't pay 50€ anymore for a single flight.

I think the engine in the 330 is louder then the 360, the reversers are a bit less sudden too iirc. Was flying this yesterday in a few hops it’s good fun.
The $50 pricetag makes it a no from Simon... 🤪
Imma hold out some hope that maybe they'll get around to adding some kind of failure capability like they were hoping to with the Islander.
Having every system and breaker fully simulated is cool, but not actually all that meaningful when you know for a fact that no breakers can ever pop, you'll never need to actually make use of any redundancy systems etc.
And yes, Black Square, A2A and Blackbird have spoiled me. :p
I like it though it looks like a bus with wings... I like an airplane with a good view for the pilot(s).
For what they are asking for, the textures just don't look right to me. So it's a no. I know it's a little thing, and I feel stupid, but I feel like if you are going to have a unique aircraft where the appearance is a huge part of the draw then it needs to look as real as possible. But I'm a snob.
As interesting as this looks, and I've always been somewhat amused by the 'shed like' features of the shorts series, I just feel we have been spoilt by the likes of Carenado for cockpit textures. The interior of this just leaves me..... Not wanting to spend my hard earned pounds.

Partly yes, partly no... Realistically, the same instruments are there as in most planes, its just got more stuff in individual gauges and controls than combined in modern systems. Intimidating? sure, harder? not really once you get used to it :D

This airplane is the box smaller aircraft are delivered in. Your enthusiasm for this aircraft is palpable! I mean, in your excitement to show it you're making some elementary mistakes. ;) I'll put this on my buy list, but the AP will put it a bit lower than the FSR500.

You do realize familiarity with individual aircraft is aquired by time? Everything I review I'm often coming to the first time the camera rolls or perhaps second. Mistakes are expected, I am not familiar and that is the point of a first look.

BBSim should improve visual quality.
Blackbox have yet to produce a plane worthy of the MSFS format, this along with all the other Blackbox products should be freeware, considering the quality you can buy with similar dollars from the likes of Blacksquare, these people aren't even in the same ball park.
Black box is one of the best developers out there and if you’re a real life pilot you’ll know why, the flight model is amazing, all cockpit labels and flight instruments are clean and clear, perfect for flight training. But if only care about eye candy then it’s not for you. I’ve flown 3 of the aircraft they produced, the Islander, the L-19 and the Bulldog and they behave like the real aircraft!

The flight model is toyish. Not even close to realistic... it's over-powered.. massive MOIs.. with the glide ratio of a sail plane. A small wing-area, lifting body airplane, should be a handful on climbout and approach. You cannot even fly it anywhere near, published V-speeds.. and would have to TRY to get into trouble.
Sorry you didn't enjoy it, I think the Blackbox planes are some of the best in the sim in terms of flight dynamics and functionality.
"Flight dynamics", would be performance somewhere near realistic. As mentioned.. it's not even close. I mean.. even off the charts, bizarre.
