Put the thumb screw from the backpack in the mounting hole, under the radio. It will stand up with no trouble.

Regarding remote operation of the IC-705 I thought I'd mention there are apps for the iPhone, iPad and Mac called "SDR-Control" that are full interactive interface implementations and they're fantastic. They're available on their respective app stores. They're made by Marcus Roskosch and very similar to the remote apps for Flex radios. They include all the cool tools (FT8/FT4, DX Cluster, Logbook, Band Plan, .....) and display the waterfall and the whole user interface. They also work with other ICOM radios that have network connectability. They're not free but very much worth the price.

Nice radio, and I will probably get it one day. Weird design looks like they chopped the back half of an IC-7300. The ft-817 has the feature where you can carry it around with the shoulder strap. The FT-817 is like an oversize HT whereas this is like an undersized mobile or base station.

I love the mic. It's perfect for portable use in my opinion. You can choose to use the speaker in the mic, or not. And you can program all the buttons to your liking.
    The audio is good too.
It also has a little mic cord holder that has been working well for me in the field (don't throw the little metal ring on the mic cord away!)
    I like mine a lot!

Damn, your thumbnail on the video showed a CW frequency and I thought I may have found the first demo of CW on the 705. Beginning to think this rig doesn’t do CW.

oh boy, I passed my 10wpm exam when I was 13 years of age, very embarrassing, I have never picked the key back up at now 56 years of age. I sometimes think, maybe its time to give it a go again, so its never over til its over haha...At least you have inspired me to get the radio on cw and give it a try, cheers Brenton VK3CM

I saw another video where if you put a small screw in the bottom where the bracket(?) goes, it will keep the radio propped up nicely.

Saw something like that, the retaining screw from the backpack. Probably scratch the surface it's sitting on though.

Assuming it is like the 7300, it works great *provided* you can match the antenna even a little bit. A random wire in the center pin should work pretty well particularly if you ground the radio. Otherwise a medium wave ferrite loop antenna would do nicely.

Hello Brenton, I have read the online manual specifications and reasonable Ham ssb radio it is. Though when it comes to AM Broadcast Band reception it is deaf by 2002/4 standards. It is good for purpose though not a SWL receiver. Kind regards, Paul. I will keep looking.

Can't find any detail in the manuals for using external amp. Any clues ?

    • @brentonmeadowsvk3cm
      @brentonmeadowsvk3cm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

it is a typical 3.5mm switch the amp to ground and alc on the side of the radio. The explanation is on page 2-3 and then more explained on page 13-2 of the basic manual. the advanced manual is worth downloading as well. cheers Brenton VK3CM www.icomjapan.com/uploads/support/manual/IC-705_ENG_Advanced_0.pdf

@@brentonmeadowsvk3cm Many thanks. I was thinking it was more complex than that, eg a serial output with band info etc. Must have glossed over those pages, thanks.

    • @brentonmeadowsvk3cm

Hi Knud, good question, I have used it alongside the IC7300, its very similar in its receiver that its hard to tell the difference. Reports on Tx between the IC705 vs the IC7300, apart from the obvious signal report drops with the IC705, the audio reports were deemed very similar. So far, very impressed with this small box, still maintaining should have come with an ATU for the price but overall, still very happy. Cheers Brenton VK3CM

Not a fan of the price tag. Could come close to purchasing an IC-7300 and a ID-5100a and have a higher power equivalent of all of it.

The trip between the fridge and the barn is NOT hiking...diverting through Sam's greenhouse does not make it Bushwalking.....using the TV control from the other side of the room while standing, technically is ""Remote portable"...but still does not count.

You may wish to dial in a little audio EQ in your future videos because your video sound is a bit thin, bright & harsh. Needs "Body".
