    I think that has to the best walk through I have seen to date. Well done on that, I usually get fed up half way through, but I stayed with you tight through to the end. I wait to see it in use now, cheers.

    Please continue with more IC-705 tutorials. Optimizing the waterfall scope, SWR graphing capability, recommended changes from factory default settings, etc. Also D-Star, PSK-31 and RTTY operations. 73 G0NJN / N0KRO

    It's a great radio - as it should be at that price ......

    Thanks for the walk through Lewis!
    I was really looking forward to getting an IC-705 but the pricing in VK is more expensive than the IC-7300.
    Maybe further down the log it will be more tempting to part with the money.

    As a backpacker and outdoor enthusiast, this unit is a great choice but NOT including Antenna tuner in the unit made me using Elecraft KX3 instead.

    I would like to know a bit more on how or if it works with an SDRplay or similar as i can't see an RF or IF out. Usually the way Icom seem to do it is to either ask you to use USB for tuning and then you have to TAP it for RF/IF or use a external device like the MFJ708BSDR where as Yaesu (eg: FTDX3000) have a RF and IF out port on the back of the radio.

    Great video Lewis, I've owned the IC-705 for around 6 weeks now and absolutely love it.. I traded my IC-7300 to part fund this, never looked back since.. As i only operate QRP this covers my needs, theirs a great protective case stand with rack handles and perspex front cover.. Check my video with the case fitted, i included a link to the seller in the description..

    If nearby birds aren't falling out of the sky near your transmitting antenna, you're running QRP. (I've seen that happen. An unreal sight!)

    The only thing that bothers me is the battery, does the radio run hot after a few minutes? I don't understand why they haven't put a heat sink on, ok I know it is only 5W but using a small radio with that battery generates a lot of heat!

  • @daveys
    @daveys 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve seen a lot of advertisements saying that it receives to 144mhz and then some pics of it showing a 433mhz and beyond. Just wondered why they’re not saying that it’ll do HF to 70cms?

    • @RingwayManchester
      @RingwayManchester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It received continuously up to 145mhz, then nothing until 433 mate

      Ahh, I guess that explains why they describe it like that Lewis @@RingwayManchester
      I bought one since my initial comment and it’s a superb radio - as a QRP set it’s great. I activated Winter Hill with it today and I couldn’t really fault it. My only observation was that I wanted to hold the mic to my ear but also hold it in my hand while I wrote callsigns down in the log! I probably didn’t need the bandscope on this summit as I had an awesome pileup but I’ve done some quiet summits using “other radios” previously (I’m specifically thinking Foel Offwrm GW/NW-055) and to be able to monitor the whole of the band up there would probably have been quite useful. Overall, great set and it may well replace a few of my other radios!!

    I’ve never worked HF or DStar so this might be worth a try, thanks for the over view.
    Will you be doing a demo Lewis?

    If it isn't running on 3-phase 4160 VAC, it is QRP.

    I sent a picture today through a radio. I know this is nothing new and quite ancient technology but I found it well cool. I used the robot36 app I think it called and the sstv app. (Sorry forgot to mention I did it using my mobile phone and a cheap baofeng f8) anyway.. the app (sstv) allows you to turn a picture on your phone into a slow scan television format which is like a fax (I think) (sounds and beeps) then I transmitted it over the radio and decoded it on the other end using the robot36 app. Pretty cool. Could of just used WhatsApp. But still cool man. I wonder if I sent loads of fast pictures like a sfb or a fsb (fast short burst) full of pictures then popped them together and stitched em like a video if it would work.. lol video through a radio. It's like were going backwards

    It's for a limited target audience...i have 7300 and 9700, so i could never see myself getting this, unless i wanted to operate mobile, portable or qrp.....

    I really can't see that battery powering the screen, the internal gubbins and chucking out rf for very long...limited operation time at lower power. Get ready to buy additional batteries either proprietary or third party... Its an attractive radio, but the price! A lot of money for qrp at this stage of the solar cycle...my money will be staying in the bank.

    Yeah $1200 for a QRP radio. This is why most new amateurs can’t get good equipment because of the cost. The cost of amateur radio equipment keeps most of us for getting into HF bands
