- I've owned this new radio for about a week now and this is my first opportunity to make you a proper video introduction. I'll look at some of the first things that strike me coming out of the box that may interest you.

Awesome, thanks for posting a breakdown. I tried to make it through the long video but only made about an hour in. I love seeing shorter videos (under 30 mins) in the HAM community. most tend to post obnoxiously long content with no content markers if you would like to skip ahead to a specific section and shorter overviews. keep up the good work!

I got one and the LC-192 for my birthday. Too bad I am still studying for my Technican. Oh, well. I now have inspiration to not only get THAT out of the way, but to also go for my General.

I've been using the IC705 for 3 months.
Using it with 10 watts CW , I had some QSOs with the stations in the U.S.

Great executive summary, Bob… Especially for those who have not seen your in-depth deep dives on the rig. With regard to current availability, HRO told me two days ago that their second batch of radios have an expected delivery date during the first seven days of October. Today is October 4. I was told that HRO only received about 180 radios on the first shipment instead of the anticipated 780 radios. I'm like position 250, i.e. the 250th person to pay my money and take my chances. So, I'm hoping to get my happy notice from HRO this coming week. "We'll see," said the Zen Master. I'm working CQP with the 705 right now. 10 watts, no tuner on my hex beam. Just made a QSO with Alaska. Worked many states back east and even did my first MOTA activation. Stand by for the video.
Hey Bob like the way you showed off your new countertops. Lol. Man the more I see the videos on this radio, I am kicking myself for not waiting to get it, instead of my 7300 and 9700. I’m considering purchasing this radio just for SWL purposes. Viewing this video has convinced me it will be perfect for that application. About the only thing I was concerned about was HF performance and the smallish internal speaker. It certainly has the “cool factor”!

K6UDA - would like to see how you've configured/optimized your scope/waterfall presentation. What are the screen/scope options that can be changed, and how have you configured for your operation style (and why).

K6UDA though to move with a new radio but it will give yoiuyn time to try simple new antennas. Try the MAT 705 from vibroplex. Great device and works withe temporary antennas
Would also like to see a SWR graphing demo - finding an antenna's resonance (enabling tuning, etc.). Homebrew-up a 6-M dipole? Want to trim-it to the 50Hz 6-M calling freq (50.100 to 50.130 DX Window)? How does the '705 make that easy and accurate?
commradio ctx-10 had usb charging well before the 705... but glad for the feature

This radio can also work from USB without battery. But only receives. So then you can use it as standard FM radio 🙂

Can you measure the current draw on receive? That’s what makes it or breaks it as a qrp rig. As you said fancy displays and what not come at a price. I’m waiting for the kx4 myself.
I did. .03 amps on receive. Yes, I can't wait for the KX4, but seeing that the K4 is still not release more than a year later (thanks Covid) I don't see a KX4 for another couple of years at least.

I have a noobish question. Icom lists this radio as a handleld. I suspect this is one of those radios where it goes in a back pack? Perhaps people use it at home? Perhaps in the field for special events? I suppose its use would be for everything I listed. Two questions. What would be the most common use case scenario? Second question: If you kept it in a vehicle, how would those beautiful colored touch screens hold up to the high temperatures it can get in a car in the summer? Great video!
Great questions. First, this radio was designed to put in a backpack and go hike up the side of a mountain. Yes, some folks will use it in the house. For those people I’d suggest an amp and tuner. Now, as for the screen, only time will tell.

I was wondering if the newer radio beautiful screens would hold up like the old stuff does. As you said, ""time will tell"". Thanks again for the quality video. I'm a new subscriber. Quick question.....how does it stack up against the KX3 in the receiver? Great video mate. I was in hospital last weekend post surgery. I was wearing my K6UDA tshirt, boy did I get some strange looks and questions from my nursing staff. I suspect if you look on a globe my t shirt MAY be the furthest one from your qth! @@K6UDA Thanks for the response. I had already subscribed, but maybe it didn't show up. It says I am a subscriber and the notification bell is selected. Anyway, since the ic705 is a "full bodied" radio that can pretty much do it all, and is not limited to a bench, just power. I am curious what you would pair with it to maximize its potential both at home and more so on the road, or in the field. I watched your video on the Cameleon MPAS 2.0 and that looks like a pretty solid choice, but I saw you were a bit bumed by the SWR and needing a tuner. I watched another video where the guy had it hooked to an MPAS 2.0. He keyed the mic about 5 times and the radio locked in and his SWR was 1.1. I am looking for something that is portable that I might be able to carry on my BMW 1200, in my truck, or in a ruck. I want something that I can put up and leave up for a week or take it down and bug out fairly easily. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.

Yes you can. ICOM RS-MS1A free Android software. You can via USB cable or BLUETOOTH.
