    Reliability is number one I had an accident Got hit behind. The loop it was on one minute.The accident happened at fifty nine seconds. I've also had some dash cams.Just you didn't record or the video is corrupt.

      Same experience basically of a corrupt card ruining my footage when I needed it the most

      Agreed. My "higher end" cam, I've had nothing but issues with it. The last straw occurred recently, when by all appearances it was recording. But when I checked to review footage of something I saved just an hour earlier, I discovered it hadn't recorded anything for the 8 previous days.
      My cheaper cam has worked flawlessly by contrast.

    Great video! Definitely learned a lot from it. The following comments is, in no ways meaning to express VortexRadar spreading disinformation. Just my humble opinion on this very particular topic (resolution vs sensor size vs low light noise).
    Just one note on the video quality section as a working photographer. Even though less pixels does make the footage look less noisy in low-light, that doesn't inherently mean that higher resolution is worse. In fact, particularly comparing sensors of the same generations, a sensor with more resolution will have more apparent noise when zoomed in to an arbitrary 100% or 1:1 ratio, since the footage is more zoomed in. If you equalize the zoom, you will typically find that the higher resolution and lower resolution sensors are equally noisy, but the higher resolution sensor image looks sharper. This is because the amount of noise you get in an image is based on the amount of light gathered, which in turn, is based on how big the sensor is.
    Obviously, there are some downsides to cramming more pixels onto a smaller sensor, which results in quantization errors that add up quicker, light "leaking" across pixels, etc. But the point is that modern sensors are pretty good at controlling these, at least for larger sensor CSCs and MILCs, and perhaps there are also other downsides that make it more difficult for 4K dashcams to be less noisy at night such as the amount of processing needed to denoise the footage on the fly.
    Definitely a very interesting topic, would love if a bit more research could be done on this aspect of resolution vs noise in your tests (maybe with some normalised 1080P clips and full resolution 100% clips for when there is light and when there is not much light), particularly for small sensor cameras found in dashcams. Cheers from Australia!

      Oh yeah going into the nuances of sensor design goes wayyy beyond the simple rules of thumb discussed here, lol.
      I love the idea of doing even more testing, but I feel like it’s hard to do a true apples to apples comparison when there’s so many other variables beyond just the sensor.
      For example, you could do some nighttime testing with the Viofo A229 Plus and Pro which are almost the same dashcam by the same manufacturer (Viofo) and the same image sensor manufacturer (Sony) and generation (Starvis 2), yet the differences in HDR implementation/effectiveness means that the processing has a bigger factor than just the image sensor selection alone and so even in that situation we don’t have the variables sufficiently well controlled to compare things as directly as I would have hoped. 🤷

    • @vtct_ytaa
      @vtct_ytaa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VortexRadar That is too true. It's just too bad that technology limitations means you can't really take the raw footage from the sensor and get software that interprets the raw data like how viofo would do so in camera.
      What I mean by this is maybe something like the way canon and nikon do this. Canon cameras shoot in RAW, CR2 or CR3, and then you can use Digital Photo Professional software that Canon gives you, so then you have the choice to see what the original data looks like, but also how Canon would like you to interpret the raw file as opposed to say PhotoOne, DxO, Lightroom, etc.
      If only dashcam manufacturers would allow you to do some of those types of tests too with their own proprietary software, that would be great!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’d be cool to shoot RAW video, but I can only imagine the processing and overheating demands on inexpensive dashcams with limited hardware and a customer base who barely understands how to get a file off the memory card, lol.

    • @vtct_ytaa
      @vtct_ytaa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VortexRadar Unfortunately that is just too true. All the demands might just make the dashcams worse in quality than if R&D was put into just making dashcams as they make them now!

    With two high quality front and rear facing Starvis2 cameras, dashcams would make great 360 overhead view parking cameras, especially something like the A229 Pro which has a screen, or alternatively (if that's too much code/processing on the device) just have the image transformation done on the mobile app?

    I’ve always thought that if it could have it, Storage either physically wired to a secure place like in a glove compartment or such that that would be good. I have a dash cam that has two SD cards and rights to them simultaneously that’s also good for times when there’s failure of a card. I also think that GPS navigation and dash cams should not do the last 5 to 10 miles to your house your residence. That is you know where you live when you’re that close except for maybe traffic, and no recording of you coming and going from your actual house should be saved. It should be GPS aware. Same with navigation systems. They should only get you to within 3 to 5 miles of your house and that way everybody steals that information, they can’t use it.

    Hi, I have a question. I have been using my BlackVuew 750S 2ch for a number of year but decided to change to the Viofo A229 Plus. I heard on another channel that if you are using Android Auto/Apple Car Play for navigation the GPS for the A229 won't work. Has anyone heard about this issue?
