I looked into 360deg dashcams a few months back and ended up just going with 2x 3-cam units (normally 1x front, 1x-front-interior, 1x back), which was cheaper. I mounted them with 1 mounted in front (has front-facing, interior-facing-back, and the rear camera is mounted to a rear driver-side window), the 2nd unit is mounted to the back window (with interior-forward facing cam) and the rear unit is mounted to the rear passenger-side window. Same setup you have, just with the extra interior.
Yeah the DIY route seems to be a good way to go to build exactly the setup you want, plus you often get better video quality than what you get with many of the combo systems.
Some of the 360 degree cams I had very high hopes for but they just did not cut it. However everyone has a different need or want for their lifestyle. Hopefully we will see some more unique and improved 360 cameras in near future. Great breakdown😊
HELP Please! - is BlackVue customer support misleading everyone 😕. When I asked if there LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot module would support two Dual DR970X Front/Rear camera systems, they replied NO, that only ONE camera system (2 cameras) would be supported and that I would need to buy TWO of their LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot modules. I find this hard to believe... one module can support 5 concurrent users... WHY would it not work? Heck, aren't you yourself "already" doing this? 😊 Thanks!
Yeah so when the DR970X Plus was initially announced, they said that they would enable this capability. It’s currently been limited due to bandwidth concerns. Unfortunately they still haven’t enabled this support yet. I emailed them a few days ago asking them when they’re going to do it, but haven’t heard back yet. For that reason, for now each dashcam will need its own LTE connection or you need an external WiFi hotspot for both dashcams to connect to.
Check out this video starting at 5:33 where they promise releasing this feature on the DR970 Plus series: th-cam.com/video/Xx4RksCSl9k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rdyItdfg24sH3S0a
The solution that I would prefer is ... a standard high res multi camera system built in with the original vehicle. This would include 5 wide angle cameras. 4 of these mounted on the exterior at the top of the 4 pillars. The last cam is mounted in the rear view mirror for the interior view.
Just looking for something like the tesla sentry where it stays on while parked and capture the plates of someone who door-dings me or backs into my parked EV.
YES something that ensures coverage when you’re in and out of the vehicle. When you’re at work or anywhere away from the car. You want that peace of mind to capture whatever happens wherever whenever.
Thank you very much for this overview, it was fantastic!I have a 40’ RV and would love ideas on how to do this, with recording (DVR?) and solid night vision-basically 360+day/night security.
Thank you for posting this video. I want to confirm if the dash cameras of Vantrue have the highest resolution. it seems that the best solution to see all views outside the car is to put additional side cameras. You mentioned Viofo has long wires for rear cameras to be used as side cameras. How is the camera footage resolution compared to the camera footage resolution of Vantrue? Thank you
@@VortexRadarIt is my own opinion but I think they are missing a huge market with people who want to document their off roading experience with exterior views or more resolution with license plate capture. We spend multiple thousands of dollars on our vehicles and document our off roading experiences with multiple GoPro cameras.

You’ll want to get a pair of these dashcams: geni.us/DR970X2CHPlus and you can pair it with this battery: geni.us/BlackvueB130X The cables should fit in most cars, yeah.
@@VortexRadar how would you hardwire 2 camera systems into the battery pack? Would Viofo A229 work as well? Mainly need for parked recording in a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek.
Hello, I absolutely enjoy watching your reviews. Considering the cabin A-Pillar solution but where are the cabin cameras connected to since A229 has only one port for cabin?
Have you tried the VIOFO RTC300 telephoto camera for the A229 Plus/Pro? It has Starvis 2 and HDR. I see you have discussed how a telephoto lens could help reading license plates.

Question could i buy a A229 pro 3 channel and only run 2channels ???? I want to put a rear camera in each of our 2 cars and just move the dash cam main unit to which ever car we are using. I know i would need extra cable and mount stickers etc
Sure, the camera is the camera and you can add or remove cameras at will, regardless of what comes in the box. In general I prefer leaving cameras in the car though and not having to reaim lenses, potentially damage cable connectors as they go in and out, etc. IMO these are best for set-it-and-forget-it setups.

What about the 3D 360 Bird's View Camera System ? It consists of: One front view camera (mounted on the front grill) One rearview camera ( mounted near the resr license plate ) One right side mirror camera (mounted below the right side mirror) One left side mirror camera ( mounted below the left side mirror). All four cameras are 180 degrees (large field of view ) with night vision . All four cameras are controlled by an electronic image processor (comes in a metal box with usb port or micro sd port to record daily driving videos and support parking mode, too ) The system can be added to any stock or aftermarket car entertainment system and support multiple video outputs and camera models ( cvbs, ahd, tvi, pal, ntsc). What you see on the screen is a magnificent, 3d image , giving all around the car , which is useful when parking the car in narrow places) . You can switch manually between many view angles as you like with the dedicated mini remote control that comes with the 3d surrounding camera system. I installed one of these systems in my car almost 2 months ago, and it's working great so far 👌. wish there were outside mount cameras so that you can capture more that you cant typically capture though the windows. Kinda like teslas dashcameras are all mounted on the outside and allow for great viewing angles.
Got a question, new to this, and recently bought a cheap 30$ 3ch setup. Yeah I know, but I don't have a lot of extra cash so el cheapo we go. My question is: Why has no one made a dash cam with Starvis 2 for the front, Starvis 1 (or similar but cheaper) with a super wide or 360 for internal (similar build like the N4's) with options for a similar second module for the rear? 3 to 4 cameras, in two simple modules, less cables, less mess, and surprisingly decent coverage. If a third module with a 360 lens, that could be mounted in the middle of ceiling for those extra tricky angles. With some clever software it could have buffering and segment video into 2 or 3 decent combined footage clips. one for each of the front and rear and a clever way to combine the front and rear internal to the 360 center (or not if it's not there.)I trying to think what would take the least amount of processing power, several videos or one big 4K or 8K clip baking all the cameras in. Either way, any solutions like that? Or coming?
@@VortexRadar Yeah... I haven't slept... Sorry. Anyone that makes/or are planning to make a cheaper dashcam, that uses starvis 2 for its from and rear cameras, while using fisheye or 360 lenses on the interior lens? Downside of shooting outside for a change. They’re my neighbor’s wind chimes and I can’t stop the wind. Part of trying out new places to shoot. :) I stopped shooting for airplanes overhead, but the wind was way too constant haha.

Remember not all of your viewers have kids or drive as Lyft or uber. I will gladly give up my glove box space for additional battery and remote dash camera processor.
The whole point of this video is to show you multiple approaches so you can see what works best because of course there is no one size fits all solution. For example, based on what you’re describing, you can consider something similar to what I do in my car with a pair of A229 Pro’s if you prioritize license plate capture geni.us/ViofoA229Pro2CH or a pair of DR970X Box Plus’ if you prioritize the remote setup geni.us/DR970X2CHBoxPlus
As mentioned in the video, it hasn’t been officially announced yet, only recently leaked. If you check the link in the description, there’s a discussion thread all about the dashcam.
Question / Limitations: of simply using say two Dual camera setups BlackVue DR970X Plus? ...therefore giving one 4K up Front and Rear, as well as HD both Side right and Side left (I don't desire any interior recording). Seems to me that this would be ideal and quite straight forward (other than say the Price and Installation of coursr), or am I missing something?
I covered this setup in the video. There’s also other complications like getting cloud to work on both cams. You either need an external Wi-Fi hotspot that both dash cams connect to or give each dashcam its own Internet connection and paid data plan. Blackvue said they’re gonna unlock the possibility to have one dashcam connect to the other dashcam’s Internet connection, but so far they haven’t released a firmware that allows us to do so.
Great perfect, Thanks! ...for the Cloud item/issue was the only thing I could of... and frankly is fairly easy to solved IF one is willing to pay for multiple Plans (or of course if one simply sets up a Wi-Fi Hotspot). I'll be going this route for sure... too many limitations with most every other option 😊
Yeah if you go that route, you could do the LTE option. geni.us/DR970X2CHLTEPlus For the rear window cam, a big camera really does impact rear visibility more so than a cam on the windshield which can be hidden behind the RVM so you may wanna consider the regular version geni.us/DR970X2CHPlus and add the external LTE module which can be tucked away.
HELP Please! - is BlackVue customer support misleading everyone 😕. I'm surprised there aren't more videos in the category talking about 3D printed solutions 🤔 hmmm... I thought the ven diagram of dashcam nerds and 3D printing nerds would have more overlap
Dashcams would be better if they not on the dashboard at all. Better: 1) 5.7k forward camera at the car's "nose" or where hood ornaments were common, equipped with software to register license plate details; 2) 1080p rear-view camera exactly where most recent cars already offer a rear-view camera, but with better resolution and low-light performance; and 3) a 360-degree camera on the car's interior ceiling, slightly to the rear of the dashboard. Best if the camera feeds could be recorded to a single h.265 8k file, combining all perspectives, with a single and consistent sub-title that conveyed date, time, GPS coordinates, and compass heading. Mr. Vortex Radar, please undertake development of such a product. It could earn you a big and honest fortune.
I need four fields of view. If you have some in the back of your car you can rotate the camera around. Keep an eye on them so I'm looking for three cameras left right forward with an apt camera added in. I also need audio so if you need to record audio you have it. And I also need GPS so I want to know how fast the car is moving at that way if you get stopped by a cop and he tries to suggest you're going faster than you are you have proof so date and time stamp is important as well to verify accuracy. And then finally night vision. So you have night vision stuff, parking camera? Yeah that's cool. Don't mind it of all of the cameras that's kind of the least important. But if you have a parking camera so I'm going to hit you. You're not in the car. You have the security from that end. Your Vegas risks will always be a cop, lying about encounter or an accident that occurred and having evidence of that. If you're doing the Uber thing, maybe you want to see the back seat, but if you've got a camera you can swivel around point in multiple directions that could easily be the camera that is also keeping an eye on a cop and documenting. In the case of a traffic stop, you would have time to bring that camera around and point it at the side window. The other important feature is all of that needs to be uploaded to a cloud or at least to a cell phone. So if the cop tries to grab the camera to destroy evidence you have and accurate recording somewhere else, hopefully in the cloud, but a cell phone would be sufficient via Wi-Fi
YES. Thank you for covering. Unfortunately, I get harassed by Border Patrol. often. I am shooting a documentary about the militarization happening on ALL of our borders and they don't like me doing that. 8-)
Not your best video. We didn't need to know about discontinued items and you never really mentioned resolution on most of these multi-cam setups, which weighs heavily on my purchase choices.
I thought it was obvious, but this video is about different form factors and approaches people have tried for 360 degree dashcams, including some that people have tried that didn’t work as well as how they have evolved since. If there’s a particular style that you like and multiple companies who all make that style of dashcam and then you want to dig further about resolution or parking modes or anything else that’s beyond the scope of this video, of course you can look into it further.
Hoodlum keys your car at night, the IR LEDs wash out the interior windows so you'll never catch details on camera. Thief breaks into the car anytime of day, first thing to take is the camera holding the evidence of the crime. Cameras are super expensive, so have great resale as well. Only the blackvue box has the card off camera assuring immediate safety from obvious theft. Never minding that few cameras buffer record at all. Please do a video on the camera footage leading to arrest rate and I'll bet it's miniscule. And where does all this footage fall in the face of the 5th Amendment? Can a court or officer compel you to turn your footage over for review and potentially used against you for secondary offenses such as speeding, running a stop sign and so on? Indeed, this sword we think we wield in self-protection seems double-edged and held to our own throat by our own hand. What's the solution? Personalized DIY arduino? Everyone has plenty of time and inclination in their lives to learn that. Cameras watching cameras watching cameras? That was the Stazi philosophy. Wifi alarms? -Sure and every databroker, corporation, government agency, international adversary and basement dirtbag gets your signal that wants it and even your footage too. All for sale and theft to and by every last bidder with a red hot penny in hand. ... That was Ben Franklin with the whole 'sacrificing security for freedom and deserving neither" thing, right? As a society we apparently deserve neither.
haha yet another approach! I hope more car companies do that. I’ve seen a number of complaints about battery usage in sentry mode and low video quality, but I believe the latter is improving with newer Teslas.
@@VortexRadar In my 10 years of experience with Tesla Model Y & X, the sentry mode has less than 1% battery drain in 24 hours yet provides 2896 x 1876 pixels of video quality.
1% is way more reasonable. Do you know why there’s lots of reports of far worse results? For example, www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/z6unJf7yds Maybe a settings issue? or it’s gotten better over time? The resolution sounds okay, but that doesn’t really tell us too much about actual quality. The sample footage I’ve seen wasn’t anything to write home about. Do you have links to some recent footage?

Great perfect, Thanks! ...for the Cloud item/issue was the only thing I could of... and frankly is fairly easy to solved IF one is willing to pay for multiple Plans (or of course if one simply sets up a Wi-Fi Hotspot). I'll be going this route for sure... too many limitations with most every other option 😊
Yeah if you go that route, you could do the LTE option. geni.us/DR970X2CHLTEPlus
For the rear window cam, a big camera really does impact rear visibility more so than a cam on the windshield which can be hidden behind the RVM so you may wanna consider the regular version geni.us/DR970X2CHPlus and add the external LTE module which can be tucked away.
Recording the Police is certainly a plus for me! 😅
don't get pulled over?
Great info thank you
Which dashcams have the best LTE/ cloud feature?
Blackvues are the best for that th-cam.com/video/nrvTxCEBbek/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OFRv16rrDnCrAfCI
@@VortexRadar Can I connect them to my work wifi while in parking mode?
If you park close enough, yes
Was NOT expecting to get Rickrolled... 😂
Thanks for introducing me to something I hadn't even noticed was available.
lol
I kinda like the Vantrue n5 dash cam
YES. Thank you for covering. Unfortunately, I get harassed by Border Patrol. often. I am shooting a documentary about the militarization happening on ALL of our borders and they don't like me doing that. 8-)
Keep filming the borders and send the video to a reliable source
poor dog in the second crash clip
I wish their was one that can connect to my car's 360° cameras
That would be amazing! I’m not sure why more manufacturers don’t do that…
Not your best video.
@@VortexRadar I was not expecting a reply on a 5 month old video. lol. But, thanks!
lol, happy holidays! :)
Too many dashcams in a car are bad for the car battery 😂
Or we can simply buy Tesla and 360 coverage 😂
haha yet another approach!
Good info thanks
