I had a DSC, decent control issue, suspension lowered, bo special functions. Turned out to be the steering angle sensor, bit of metal weld glue on the silly flimsy plastic around the steering shaft under the dash, and a steering angle reset. Fixed!

👍We checked the steering angle sensor, we knew that it can set off this fault too. 🙋‍♀️ Vera

@BIKE LIFE MARK I've got some pictures but not sure how to send via TH-cam, after gluing you will need to get the steering recalibrated, most garages cant do this, by any specialist landy garage will have the software. If you can feel the plastic collar the glue needs to go between the plastic and the shaft so they are fixed together.

Thanks for the mention! I was having a similar issue (HDC fault, transmission failure, and traction control light on) and it turned out to be an electrical issue: the wire that comes from fuse 66P was corroded at a splice due to water in the passenger side door sill. This wire supplies power to various switches (brake, HDC, and DSC) that are sensed by the ABS module. Other than the warning lights, the vehicle also refused to raise the suspension to normal height. It's amazing how something so simple can cripple a vehicle! Anyway, I'm glad to hear that yours is working!

Very entertaining, better than TV. Thankfully I’m an ex-D3 owner and much poorer for having been one for 10 years. I truly admire your perseverance and zen-like calm in your work. Yes that is well put by a Land Rover mechanic. We always talk about making a video about "Quality versus Reliability" in context of comparing a Dacia, which is reliable but poor has quality and a Land Rover which has high standard of quality but poor reliability.👍🙋‍♀️ Vera

These videos are brilliant. I don’t own a LR yet but will defo have to get one at some stage as I fell in love with working on them after spending nearly 2 years at the local JLR dealership still don’t like Jags though ...! 😂 those brake bleeding tools work perfect! The official bleeding procedure on disco four (RHD) is rear left > front left rear right>front right . It’s probably opposite on LHD LR’s. Really loving the content.

My Wife’s Toyota had an ABS problem “Brakes hammered” through the pedal as if locked with just gentle braking in a turn. No codes funny noise from pump. I check the wheel sensor signals all seemed good (Picoscope). I cleaned the toothed wheel speed sensor reluctor wheels and found one had fractured due to rust expansion and moved slightly. In a turn the wheel sensor lost the signal triggering the ABS. (18 Year Old Toyota). I removed the driveshaft and replaced the reluctor wheel, purchased from a German company and End of problem. The noise was the ABS. During braking the ABS is actuated by a stopped reluctor wheel being sensed, or in our case displaced reluctor wheel, it blocks further pedal pressure and releases some until the wheel spins and you feel hammering through the pedal. The displaced fluid is stored in an accumulator under spring pressure and returned to the reservoir when brakes are released. If the chamber becomes full under braking a pressure pump is operated to return fluid (The noise I heard). I have never heard that noise before and I am sure some would replace the ABS Unit for that noise. Reluctor wheels front set 15 euros. 18 year old Toyota Yaris. The rust under the reluctor wheel was so hard I had to chip the rust off with a small hammer and they emery paper the Hub clean. (Safety glasses)!. The reason for two reservoirs is dual circuit brakes, half your brakes may fail due pipe or seal failure but pumping the pedal means the other part of the circuit (Dual Circuit) will still stop the car. Brake fluid is hydroscopic (Draws in water) and should be changed at correct service intervals, absorbed water can turn to steam during extreme braking due to excessive heat leading to brake fade, it can also promote corrosion in the brake system due to the moisture. We all change the brake fluid when we should right?😀. Wheel speed sensors have a hard life the wheels move up and down and steering movement bends and twists the wires and eventually they break. This is going to affect a lot of systems as their input is critical. I had an Audi A6 at 180,000 miles a front wheel speed sensor failed and I replaced it two weeks later problem came back but this time the other front wheel. Who would have thought wire bending and flexing during suspension movement and steering would fail at about the same time?😀. High mileage if one goes consider doing the rest. Excellent teamwork very good work, you do your research and do it properly and put a god few mechanics to shame. Love your sense of humour it’s gets you through the day.

Too long to wait a week to see you here guys! Regarding the diagnose tool, sell yours and get ad iidTool. It is able also to bleed your abs module if needed... I have managed a similar issue on a friend D3 and the problem was the wiring harness close to the ABS pump, moving it a bit fixed the ABS fault on the dashboard. A further analysis revealed 2 spliced wires (suppose due to vibrations) touching together...

Fun Fact: I nearly crashed my phaeton V10 as In a Dutch caravan on the Autobahn as he pulled into left lane while I came rushing on with 220kmh. Turns out the guy I bought the car weeks before messed with the ABS pump, but never bled the actual Pump circuit, so as I braked hard as possible the pump pushed air in my hydraulics what made the brakes fade so hard for a few seconds. No need to say that I shat my pants :D

Hi to you both for another great video
I can share your pain with the DSC fault I have just replaced the rubber bushes in my front lower wishbones then the DSC fault plagued me cleaned the ABS sensors and replaced one which had a bit of noise, reset the steering angle sensor all to no avail.
However after a drive and the four reset of the steering angle sensor the faults have not returned (so far) I suspect that the DSC signal from the steering angle sensor is very critical and extremely sensitive
Did you say you had the GAP iiD tool that is what I use (although I also have the IDS tool also) the GAP tool is very good and you can also edit the CCF file with ease

I have been following your episodes for a time and I now I have a problem my mechanics cant resolve. The problem is, while driving after some minutes there is a message " suspension fault" slow dawn and the vehicle will lower, ABS signal DSC not working and cruise control not working. Last year I bought X Lifter kit and I love being control of how high the car is, I am using it for off road driving in Iceland and in the snow in winter time. I have 17 inc wheels so I have more rubber and softer driving on gravel roads and deflated in the snow. One of the mechanics after going through the computer test that the switch on the brake pedal was known to brake, I changed that but still the same problem he also mentioned that the wire in the left threshold was once known to brake once. Something to with the brakes.
Have you had any experience with a problem like that. By the way the light bulb for the left braking light is broken.
My car is 2007 LR3 with 270,000 km. The engine was rebuilt 3 years ago broken Block and a new converter for the transmission 2 years ago. That was my own fault, trying to pull my 38 foot yacht between places.
If you have experienced any thing like this I would love to know about that.

Hello Christian and Vera, I have issue with my LR3 during these cold days....my I ask you for a consultation please?
temperatures bellow 1-2°C - engine starts fine, rides fine. After about one to three minutes yellow parking brake light starts blinking together with navi screen blinking and restarting, also on interior light I can see periodical voltage drops (light dimming), all with frequency about 2-4Hz. After another 10-30seconds it stabilizes itself, navi works, parking brake symbol is off. usually during next minute suspension light goes orange.
Turning car off an on again (I am working as software supporter:-) ) all repeats it self. If temperature is above 5°C, then this is not happening.
When using ODBII while engine still running after this issue, list of error codes contains this:
    U0132, C1A00, U0132, U0159, U0122, B1A96, B1D79, B1B70, B1C62, C1A20
My guess is that there is rusted ground or badly performing relay, but cannot find any common point for Parking brake and Navis screen.
I also tried to renew the connector of ABS module because of CAN bus terminator there, but no change. Accumulator changed couple day before.
Do not have any guess, while you may be "was already there"?
    Thank you for any idea.

You have to decode the faults. We have several videos how to diagnose the dsc and air suspension. Ignor the u faults as we said in many videos. Christian

      @@Vera_and_Christian Thank you.
I moved a little bit forward now.
I detected that charging voltage was kind of oscilating unprectively between 14 - 16+V, so I was happy about the "aha, that is it", but when I mounted new alternator it stays stable, but higher that expected. Engine ON - on battery I can measure 15,3V stable, in ODB2 tool I can see 14,9V (0,4V drop), also stable.
How does your voltage looks on battery and on diagnostic tool on Vera's car while running? Is there also any difference? 😲

Christian what is the manual you are using to service the Discovery? Is it a Haynes manual? If it is I would recommend you spend whatever it takes to buy the genuine Land Rover manual, I still have mine for my Discovery 2 even though I no longer have the car. It wasn't cheap being just around £70 but it was still worth it. I had a diagnostic tool too and that I used to completely automatically bleed the braking system using the ABS pump itself to do the pumping of the brake fluid, and I worked a treat. You should Never, Never use old brake fluid under any circumstances. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, that being it absorbs water from the atmosphere and will cause brake fade when you need good brakes most as in an emergency stop. The brakes get hot and boil the water into steam which can be compressed thus loosing pressure in the lines and on the brake calipers when you are trying to stop in an emergency. So old fluid is a no no!

You need to get a brake fluid moisture pen , it tells you the condition of the fluid . Cheep investment !!!!
I use TRW Brake fluid It the only one that does not have moisture in it before you start the bleeding job !!!

Hello Sir & Madam, I've been following your videos for sometime, ever since i was planning to buy a Disco 3, now that I have bought a 2009 Discovery 3 TDV6 GS just days ago, I seek your valuable assistance as the scanner tool as suggested by you is on it's way from US & sadly the previous owner lost the owner's manual. The vehicle shows no faults at system check, there are not fault signs after ignition, The suspension works fine at all the levels, the terrain response gets selected in all modes but while driving the vehicle mostly after 40 kmph ( sometimes it activates at 60~75 kmph ) the DSC light comes up followed by Suspension fault light, stating 'ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT' "SUSPENSION LOWERED" & the vehicle doesn't accelerate any further, I've checked with a regular ODB II tool, there are no engine codes. The system goes normal after switching off the vehicle, the problem persist even after deactivating the "DSC". Kindly suggest me how should I approach, Thank you in advance for LR owners make them feel LR more "reliable"
