If you don't think that Pat Metheny interview was a paid shilljob you're as thick as Rick is short. Metheny doesn't know or care who Rick is and was paid with Rick's dead dad/ParmaLee money and warmed up with our little guy's corporate connections. Rick doesn't care about music.
Back in’77 a friend and I were honoured to be invited to a rehearsal of David Sanborn’s band by Hiram Bullock. I was in my early twenties and armed with a little mono tape recorder. When background singer Lani Groves started complaining about me recording, Hiram stepped in and told her that we weren’t bootleggers and just a couple of fans who loved the music. He defended people who copied albums to give to friends, saying that as long as the music got around it was cool. He had a great attitude and was a lovely guy - shame he’s gone.
If it was a late July show it looks like there's more than one copy of it circulating around online. I hope you can find it! It looks like there was a synclavier solo? Must have been something to behold.

i did learn alot from him, even if he's shady, and i understand that he's shady. i only wish he would get that and just give up on fighting labels and shit. just wish all his content was about music theory and musician interviews.
No one I've seen in concert enforces the No Pictures or Recordings rule quite like Pat Metheny. I don't know why he has such an issue with it but that's not for me to say. It's his music and his images that he's free to protect. I sat in the front row at Massey Hall in Toronto with him literally dripping sweat on me and didn't even think about thinking about taking a picture or video. That he won't engage with Rick Beato is no surprise at all. It's one thing to have recorded those shows and traded them with your friends. It's quite another to brag about it to the world on TH-cam.
King Crimson has been doing that before cellphones with good video quality even existed. In many cases, there will stop playing and not continue until the offender leaves the show. Nowadays, they changed it to allow people to take pictures and record but only when they allow it, rather than mid show or similar.
Dude has already had record companies block his videos just for playing a few seconds of songs, so why would he post a vid of him bragging about his bootlegged tapes? A record label will be petty enough to use this as justification to block more of his vids.
Looking at the reception this video got, Rick's disregard for artist's rights and what constitutes 'fair use' has rubbed off on his audience. Embarrassed of you all.
I agree with some parts but not every educator on TH-cam is rubbing their knowledge in peoples faces. But you would be hard pressed to find people on TH-cam with more knowledge or experience actually very hard pressed. Rick not only taught jazz guitar at Ithaca college but has atleast one or more masters in music, he conducts big band ensembles which is extremely difficult to do if you have music knowledge, and he produced a #1 song on the top 100 charts to name a few, I can see how he comes off as arrogant to some people, but he does spend a lot of time teaching on TH-cam which says something also only thing I really don't like is how he is always charging money for in depth music lesson content which I think he makes enough money from TH-cam, so you do have a point in a way, he shouldn't be charging any more money for lessons he makes enough and making bootlegs is a violation although in rocks case he probably wanted to study his music although he didn't need to brag about this in a video
Rick's channel isn't a TH-cam channel, it's a veritable cult of low self-esteem people. If Rick told them to tattoo his name on their faces, half of them would probably do it.
Rick is a disgusting person in general. I dont mind so much hes a thief, but he whines incessantly when called out. He blocks anyone from his channel the instant they disagree with him. I know from experience.
