    Another useless comparison, whatever truck you choose to buy it is always a compromise. In my personal opinion Toyota is the only brand that tries to stay as old school as possible and that's something that people like myself appreciate a lot when on the trails

    I am riding in a new Tundra CrewMax that belongs to a close friend and business partner every day. It is a very nice vehicle, but it is not nearly as well finished or sophisticated inside or out as the new 8 speed Ram that belongs to the guy who works for him. The ride quality and cabin comfort in that Ram is out of this world.

    Real world.... I owned a 2001 dodge ram diesel. went through 3 transmissions by 125,000 miles. 4 lift pumps and 4 injection pumps. brake jobs every 35,000 miles, countless other minor problems. finally got rid of that POS and got a 2007 Tundra SR5 TRD for $31,000.. 121,000 miles NOTHING but oil changes and one set of brakes at 90,000.. Traded it for a 2013 Tundra. SR5/TRD for $32,500... 76,000 miles. oil changes and one set of tires... That's your "real world"

    which truck is built better? underbody cladding? The components on the Tundra are way more heavy duty. Toyota has more research and experience with offroad. The Rebel is like a pair of fake tits....looks good but not genuine.

    • @KevinSmith-qi5yn
      @KevinSmith-qi5yn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually, they have pretty equivalent experience off-road. There is the Ram Power Wagon and Ram does have Jeep to fall back on. Mopar also offers the Runner modification that is competitive verse the Raptor.

      It's bad comparison with 20 years proven on the road Toyota vs. don't know what tomorrow Ram. All dodge disappointed me and the brand itself has disappointed me with unreliable costly repairs and higher cost of ownership only good for a rental car, yet more expensive than american made tundra? who's going to buy a truck that's not helping anyone other than owner who's so not patriot? Buy tundra and you are buying american.

    • @pflaffik
      @pflaffik 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kevin, the Runner is in a different class, its 90% competition ready, the Raptor is a soccer mom truck in comparison. I would chose the Raptor but to compete with the Runner out in the desert it would need a complete suspension rebuild.

      Yea we get it the Ram is more reliable.

    • @KevinSmith-qi5yn
      @KevinSmith-qi5yn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you are off-roading neither of these vehicles will offer good reliability. Rocks tend to hurt reliability ratings. If you are not off-roading, both will be much more reliable than other vehicles. It just tends to happen when you overbuild components to deal with things like rocks.
      The Tundra is a lot simpler so it will be more reliable just from that stand point. The 8-speed and air suspension will be weak points in the Ram. Aside from that, both should be more reliable compared to other modern vehicles.

    • @emiliojosevaca
      @emiliojosevaca 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      camaroman101 ooooh man cmon! its is a fucking Chrysler brand bro! it is the most unreliable car in the world maybe after the chinese brands hahaha

    • @emiliojosevaca
      @emiliojosevaca 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Kevin Smith I agree with you in a lot of ways, but it is obvious that TOYOTA is a much more reliable car brand than any CHRYSLER brand as RAM, just look at customer reports magazine and you will confirm my point

    • @KevinSmith-qi5yn
      @KevinSmith-qi5yn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Consumer reports uses some flawed metrics in determining reliability. They use the 90 days reliability test as if it were a metric in determining long-term reliability. This will catch things that are primarily quality control issues that affect the car as soon as they roll off the line. All car companies have them and the percentage of vehicles with these issues is minuscule. Having slightly more than minuscule defect rate in the first 90 days is the difference between the most reliable and least reliable.
      It's important to separate what fails and what doesn't. The 8-speed while less reliable than the 6-speed isn't that bad compared to CVTs or 9-speeds. 5.7L naturally aspirated V8s are more reliable than turbo charged 2.0L i4.
      It's also important to realize why Chrysler tends to be less reliable. Too many unique parts that are not properly quality controlled or poorly sourced. Most of the work is done by robots who will get things precisely lined up within tenths of a mm every single time. So during assembly there should be a very small percentage of defects related to improperly maintained equipment. This leaves the sourced parts as the underlying issue.

      And all of that information is from the 80's - 90's. Toyota has been getting worse and American cars (especially GM) have gotten way better.

  • @insomniacryan9916
    @insomniacryan9916 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If I needed a truck to drive through the Canyonlands every day (and for some reason the Raptor was off the table) I'd take the Tundra. With some better tires- which would run a grand a set, perhaps- it's still cheaper than the Rebel. And I have no doubt the Tundra would last longer. A lot longer.
    But, if I were a normal person doing normal people things, and maybe wanted to tow some stuff, and hit the White Rim a couple times a year, I would take the Rebel.
    So really, it depends how much offroading you have planned. The Ram is basically the better looking, American built truck with an excellent party piece. The TRD is the inheritor of actual racing tech, and built by Toyota, and the reliability of Toyota trucks needs no introduction. It's charisma vs competence.

    • @glehman01
      @glehman01 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 2016 Tundra has a sticker on the windshield that says "Built in San Antonio, Tx", about 250-300 miles NW of my house, seems like an American truck to me ??? And it came with BFG AT's, which is fine with me.

      InsomniacRyan Don't be so sure...
      I've had my Ram in both those areas and it's got 300,000 miles on it and still going strong!
      I liked my Toyota pickup too, but it had it's issues. And it's issues WERE ALWAYS more expensive to fix than my Ram or my Chevy.

  • @BIGJBIGEBIGC

    Better reviews than a lot of money bought biased magazines out there.
    I feel like the TRD Had the bare essentials when it came to pricing. $46k? That's nearly impossible to find inTexas.
    The reason why the Rebel was more was due to the extra features like the RAMBOX system, that adds $1200 to the price

    Coming from a few fords with center console shifters to my 14 ram outdoorsman I do miss the shifter. I love the open so sole though. The Ram would be best complimented with some paddle shifters and a true manual shift mode. The tiny buttons on the Rams steering wheel are suited for gear lock out and do offer a true manual shift mode like Ford, GM and Toyota. The buttons on steering wheel are also so tiny and placed so terribly that unless the truck is driving straight on a smooth run you would need luck to be able to use them.

    I have 4 Toyota's in the driveway and have recently owned a Ram 1500 Lariat with the Hemi. If we are talking all-around capability and fun factor ESPECIALLY off-road, I would take the Rebel, but not with the expectation of keeping it forever. Also, what these guys didn't mention are the "always available" Fiat-Chrysler rebates available on Ram trucks...I got $11k off my last Ram and you usually just get a better deal on them overall.

    What added technology does the Rebel have? He even says, airbags and "it looks like..." WTH?? So, it has more buttons to confuse and break? He didn't quantify what "more technology" is. It feels sportier? OK, I'll bite; I sat in a Ram Rebel and the seat is not near as comfortable as my 2 Tundras. As for space; no comparison; the Tundra wins hands down. I like the Rebel's looks guys but, let's give rational and objective views.

  • @rexhouseo7010
    @rexhouseo7010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These guys were obviously giddy for the Rebel. The one guy even gives the Rebel points for going slower off-road... The only functional difference is the load leveling when towing, but you don't really buy either of these trucks to tow all the time. Maybe just put some air springs and better tires on the Tundra, spend the other $5,000 on a boat... th-cam.com/video/2h0Xu3rHcP8/w-d-xo.html

Not a fan of Toyota maybe if we were still in the 1980s but they feel very budget economy styling inside and out. I've owned several mopae cars trucks and SUVS. WHILE DODGE CUTS CORNER ON QUALITY CONTROL ITS THE BEST BANG FOR BUCK OUT THERE.

    I stood there and watched the guy sign, the Lancaster CA sierra toyota, does not mark up the pros, they get so few, they want them out the door.
    I paid 41,000 out the door for my 2016 tundra sr5 TRD 4x4 5.7 liter, linex bed off road crewmax loaded, through authority auto brokers. that incl. all taxes, fees licence and delivered 150 miles to my office. authority got it down to 37000, before fees, you guys are paying way to much, use a broker, don't step foot into dealership, except to test drive.
    any one who buys directly thru dealer gets bent over.
    I've bought three cars this year through them, saved thousands, and no jerk off dealership theater.

I feel the Ram air suspension and electrical will eventually fall its more of a show truck i plan on having this truck for many years but if i could get a new truck every 2-3 years i might have went with the Ram. I think you and other reviewers miss the point. Trivial stuff like usable space in the center console due to shifter placement is meaningless. Things like payload matter and it matters more than you think and none of you mention it. The may have a lot of sophisticated things in it, but by the time you add on the weight of the limited slip differential, the air suspension and the other options that come with it and fill it with gas, the Rebel's curb weight is such that the payload is down to 975 lbs. As a practical matter, what that means is you and four of your buddies, can go on an offloading adventure, but don't plan on staying overnight or having a tailgate party because you can't take anything with you. Five 175 lb guys tip the scales at 875 lbs. 100 lbs doesn't allow for much gear and if they guys are heavier forget it. That air suspension may nice and responsible for the Ram's ride, but it weighs an awful lot. That's why I got away from Jeep Wranglers and back into 4wd pickups. You pay damn near $40 grand for a Rubicon that can go anywhere, but you can't take anything with you. Payload only 850lbs less a tank of gas about 750. 4 adults and your done. No camping gear, no coolers loaded with drinks and ice nothing.

    raptor is that great honeslty ram almost smashed it with a a ram runner lmao and the rebel about and the only that cant be beaten and always dominates is the power wagon. here id agree the ram rebel is the best judgement on the trucks specs conclude everytbing such as tundra having a big rear diff set up at 4.30 ratio to where ram has it at 3.92 ratio lol so if you were to change the ram ratio to 4.10 or something it yet be more powerful than tundra and alot faster than quick lol. the toyota and the ram are both great looking badass trucks to be honest id drive both if i had both they just seem to be that proven tough kind of pickup truck to take to places and people lokking at your truck lol or go offroading whenever you feel like it without worrying youll get stuck lol. but yes the ram is best in this fact. but like I said both trucks are badass. though it is disappointing that the ram did shift know would be awesome like how tundra had theirs done then the ram would feel like a truck like it suppose to be lol. and for some guy saying the ram woukd be dead on the road like ford lol your funny lol theres a reason why ford is common with that lol its ford only dotn include ram to it lol their tough as hell they go as far as a toyota can but toyota can go further lol. except a ford lol just dont mention about it lol. but like again third time i repeat myself both trucks are badass

    is this a fair match? they say a little more, the rebel is 10,000 dollars more. if you spent the extra 10,000 on the tundra, it would have whooped the rebels ass. the ram has the old look of the dodge trucks, it's out dated, they need a new look, when they first came out with the dodge look, everyone thought they looked like little tractor trailers truck. for the money, the toyota run circles around the ram. save ten grand, put in a air system, and take a vacation to for a month.
