For LGBT history month this documentary follows the astonishing and moving stories of the members of the Opening Doors London project - whose personal struggles and successes paved the way.

Rusty Writer all the feminine gay guys I know have bad morals. I know OF many that have good morals. But have yet to run into them. But I like masc guys as far as relationships go.
Genuinely heart-warming to see members of the LGBT+ community reaching out to support those members of society who identify as 'Londoners'.
I just wish I could sit with these incredible people and enjoy every single bit of the stories they have to tell. Every gay person knows how lonely our subjective experience is and the fact that most of our peers are hidden in closets just makes it more so. I'm 42 years old and I'm so proud that before me, there were these people, my people. If I can listen to their stories, I won't feel lonely, for through storytelling their experience connects to mine and mine will connect to the next generations of gay people.

I have just turned 79 and three years ago yesterday I lost my beloved partner of 47 years, who collapsed and died in my arms. The experience was devastating and I still get flash backs. The love I had for him was so deep I can not imagine anyone loving anyone deeper. I am now entering a different period in my life where I am looking for friendship and companionship. All our long term friends that we had together tended to be older and so the inevitable is happening, they are also leaving me. I lost a dear friend of 42 years only a few months ago and he was only 73. Life is a continuing changing scene which I think one has to adapt to.

I understand so well. I am in Australia, 76, married to my accepting wife for 51 years. She had MS for 26 years and I was her carer for almost all that time. She has now passed and I am now finally free to be who I am. I went through 13 years of reparative therapy including electronic shock therapy. But I don't have a group of gay seniors to relate to as in this video. It must be very special to have that.
I am not gay and I don't understand gay but they have every right to live the way they wish. It is funny some people think they can tell other people how to live, I never understood that.

It's thanks to these people that me and other gays can live our lives. If they didn't go through what they did and fought back it would still be like that.
It’s amazing to me that after all the progress made over the years in acceptance of gays; in some sectors of society the prejudice is returning and growing among the more conservative groups. Growing up in an era of strong homophobia, I’ve witnessed and experienced the new openness, but now I see efforts being made to resurrect the prejudice. It’s particularly disturbing to see the return of homophobia in so many of our political leaders in the USA. I’m hoping young people will not experience a growing prejudice. It’s also alarming to see other issues, like abortion, seemingly regressing in again. The last thing we need is our young people to see the prejudice resurface in harmful ways. It’s important that we both celebrate their openness, and we support them where the prejudice reappears.
I am 24 but if i find a decent guy who loves me i will take care for of him till his last breath i don't want to see him spending and waiting his life alone in this cafe 😔 in my country we are really family oriented our grandparents still staying with us as one big happy family

We salute the older generation for paving the way for a brighter tomorrow for LGBTQ+ community. I am 40 years old now and during my time in the 90's and early 2000's it was still difficult time. It is not a choice and a could be a very difficult situation especially if you are on the wrong environment.
I can totally relate to the documentary throughout my entire life being gay from my very early childhood years. A very moving documentary throughout which i can't thank you enough Channel 4 THANK YOU ABSOLUTELY 🏳️🌈❤🤝👑🏳️🌈

It was very hard for young gays in the 50s 60s lhad a partner and in my work ii had to put up with ahy are you not married what do you do one guy used to target me all the time and so on i was told i smellet and so but i had a happy relayinship with my partner

I'm 65 living in San Francisco. Most of my friends died of AIDS or they moved out of CA. This has brought down the number of friends by one digit. Also I feel invisible in the gay world as I walk down the street to see mostly younger gay men who are not interested in older man. I'll admit I'm not that interested in younger men, I prefer men my age.

I think the men in this video are happy because they are around people their own age. Problems can arise when they try to surround themselves with younger men - especially half their age. Gay men under 35 don't hate men who are over 35. They simply have a stronger connection with people their own age. Unfortunately, when the younger gay men pass 35, they'll want to hang around younger men too. The cycle continues. Let's not forget that physical appearance plays a role in men under 35 not wanting to hang with older guys too. Also, everyone is aware that older non-straights struggled in the past. It was brutal. But that doesn't mean young people need to constantly hear them dwell about the past. As long as their stories have been told and documented as a part of history, then everything is good. And let's keep evolving so we don't repeat the past.

I take my hat of to them older generation. I know how hard it is. I was 50years of age i was outted yr half ago.. i was married 28yrs. Carried it from i was 12yrs.. to scared to tell anyone.. an awful burden to carry folks.xxx
I'll probably end up dying by suicide, I'm too weird and awkward to be in a relationship. I also can't build a relationship, I always tap out whenever it gets serious. I find it hard to make friends, the ones I have are all straight females, they will all marry and have kids. At some point, my career will probably reach its peak, I will have travelled the world and helped a few people become great... but I'm unlikely to be in a monogamous relationship. I'll probably end it all, I fantasize about it sometimes, but a couple of shots and a list of what to look forward to keeps me going.

please do not kill yourself. I used to be suicidal and surviving a suicide attempt is really painful...and lots of people survive. Here is a hotline that I call when things get rough instead of trying to kill myself like I used to do: 1-541-754-0110. CARDV (US hotline to discuss pain and physical and emotional violence can be used by anyone but most people who use it are women, but anyone can use it). I think maybe you can discuss the emotional or psychological violence that you have experienced when feeling suicidal and they can listen to you and help validate your feelings and experiences and help you find your own solutions. :)

I am fortunate to Live in Hawai'i where being agy has a cultural aspect which is common throughout Polynesia. The arrival of the Christian Church brought with it the legal framework to penalize and the religious bigotry to persecute. I am 77 yrs old and teach senior Tai chi Qi gong and hv never been treated with nothing but respect. I don't regret my past and the battles we hv had and I wish all young people everywhere the strength to battle the anti bigots of today. You know who they are.
