X-Lite X1005 Ultra Carbon Review - Is this a premium modular helmet contender?

  • The X-lite X1005 Modular helmet is the newest in the Italian firms line up and replaces the, surprisingly enough, X1004. This X1005 Ultra Carbon version has a very high Carbon Fibre content in the composite making it light and strong. But how does this new offering stack up? I take a look at its construction, features, comfort, noise and ventilation to bring you a full review after riding it for some time on the road.
    As I mentioned in the video I've found the Helmet here with a good discount ;

    I have the Norton N87 which I find to be the best value helmet I have ever tried but, I always ride with my visor up so was thinking about a modular. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear you say X Lite and Norlin are the same company. My experience with Norlin and your review both contributed in me ordering the Ultra Carbon today. Thanks for your no nonsense and factual review, you were a great help.

    Thanks for the review. It convinced me to buy one which I now have. When the chin guard is up there is some play backwards and forwards on mine. Did yours do that, if so was there any effect on noise or vibration? My older x lite 1003 didn't do that and was rock solid. Apparently the movement is normal but thought I'd ask before using on the road. Many thanks.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem and yes there was a little bit of movement on the one I had. No noise or vibration when down in place at all, and the only time I rode with it up was crawling along in traffic once or twice.

    Good video.
    Nice lid, loads of good features and excellent sizing which I guess is what you're paying for in a slightly salty price from a brand that might not be so recognised as a premium brand as of yet?
    Like it though.

    any pointers on size... Did you have the Xlite in a L and Shoei M...

      Thanks Adrian, two great helmets and I wore a size large in both of them. They are a very similar fit, the xlite is maybe very very slightly shorter front to back, but there is not much in it. Thanks again and you too

  • @bradb2514

    Good stuff, thank you! I have a Cardo Packtalk Bold. Do you think it would work with the helmet? Perhaps my major concern is if it can be clipped to the side of the helmet. It's unclear if the actual modular opening or the sunshield switch would interfere. I just assume you can insert your own speakers inside. (?)

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, it may fit as its relatively flat sided. You would need to remove the bung for the N-Comm System. Sadly I don't have a Cardo to offer up to it for you.

    Hi, thanks for your review, I would like to know how does it fit? My wife has a size xxs and xs is still too big and myself usualy size L! Does these helmets fit bigger than normal, should we take under size or not? Thanks for your comment

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem, I would say these are bang on size, I didn’t feel the need to size up or down. I’m a large I most helmets and this had pretty much the same fit as my Shoei

    Hi! Very nice review! i’m looking to buy a new helmet and I’m undecided on the neotech 2 or this x-lite that one aesthetically is much more beautiful… what would you recommend? did you both prove them right? Thank u soo much and regards from Italy 😊

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. yes i've ridden in both and covered quite a few miles in them. My personal preference is the X-Lite. I found it lighter with better peripheral vision. The fit is very similar to the Shoei

    if you had to compare xlite to shoei neotec 2 which one would you choose? especially the ventilation and soundproofing of the helmet, as well as the quality of workmanship ?
    Best regards from Poland😉

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      The xlite isn’t as plush as the Shoei, but I found the vision to be much better for me. If it fits well it’s a quiet helmet, the ventilation is good and it feels a little lighter. No issues with quality, but it maybe doesn’t ‘feel’ as premium as the Shoei

    whats the weight of this thing? I keep seeing 1380g and 1710g not sure which one? Would a 2XL weight too much? (Big head problem)

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep definitely the higher number. The large is quoted as 1720g. I don’t think you would be looking at much more weight for a 2xl as it’s only one shell size up.
