I've been riding with the Arai Contour-x for 4 weeks now after a gruelling search for my new lid, so I'll give you all the highs and lows... Highs: 1) This thing is SOO unbelievably comfortable. It's like pushing your head into a velvet condom. (And that's a good thing!) 2) It's light. Real light. The reviews say the weight is on the higher side, but I find it remarkably light. Almost AGV light. 3) The ventilation is crazy good. You live in a hot climate? This thing is going to keep you cool. 4) My glasses go in with ease and sit on my nose. In fact, easier than any other AGV, Shoei or Shark helmet I've worn in the past. 5) It's got a smaller footprint than my old GT-Air... no bobblehead effect in a size XL. 6) It is beautiful. The Arai craftsmanship is stunning. I got the Face graphic, and I find myself just staring at the thing. 🙂 Lows: 1) Hot dang, it's expensive! The most money I have ever spent on a lid, but I keep them a long time so that's life. 2) WITH ALL THE VENTS OPEN, there is a lot of wind noise. But you see, ventilation requires moving air. Moving air is not quiet. When you close the two small top vents, it quiets down considerably. If you want a silent lid, go with the Shoei GT-Air 2 or 3. 3) The visor mechanism takes some getting used to. I have an old Arai Vector-2, so I'm used to it. Not a deal-breaker. 4) No photochromic shield available as of writing this. It's okay, I own sunglasses. ------------- Regrets: Zero Wallet: Hurting
Bought a Quantic recently and straight away I thought it was one of the best helmets I had bought so far. Quiet , comfortable, easy visor change, good ventilation and of course it comes a lovely choice of colours. Definitely would recommend this lid to anyone. Great review , agreed with everything said. I would certainly buy another if I was looking for a new lid.
Today, I popped my Arai cherry! The XL fits PERFECTLY! Even with wearing glasses, just perfect. Got a superb deal from Sports Bike Shop, £395 in the Frost Black! Thanks for this review Tony, I've watched it more than once since you first uploaded it. I thought I'd love the Arai, but I have quite a large head (62.5cm) so haven't really got on with Arais in the past as they only go up to a XL or 61-62cm. The Tour X4 was the first that fit beautifully, but I have a VFR800, so an adventure lid didn't really go with the bike.
You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the different types of wind noise you will get on different bikes with different riding positions. Tried one on my sport touring bike and it was awful. Used it on my sport bike and I didn’t think it was the same helmet because it was so much quieter.
@@leroyjones769 Interesting, I was looking at this helmet. I have a ninja 1000sx, which is similar to the GSX1000F. The Arai fits me great but it is pricey. I can pay the money if it is quiet, but would be very dissapointed if I pay that money and it is very noisy. Hard buying helmets
Great review btw. I’ve owned Arai helmets for the last 15 years or so and for my head the fit is perfect. Only complaint is with the older chin vent that becomes loose over time and opens at higher speeds. I once heard, you either have an Arai head or a Shoei head!
Sunglasses in my helmet have served the same purpose as a drop down visor for nearly the last half century. I'm okay without one. Love the color. Hate to see the price though...
I had an Arai in 2005, the base model Condor, but it was an extremely comfortable helmet. Given it cost 250 GBP then, the cost of the white Quantic is reasonable.
I have an RX-7V, and I think the noise level really depends of your ventilations. When all the vents are fully opened, it surely is a very noisy helmet. But when you have all your vents fully closed, it's amazing how quiet this helmet is. It's even more quiet than my Shoei GT Air 2, which is a true touring helmet, and not a race helmet like the RX-7V.
Yes having vents open is going to add to the noise somewhat and how that airflow is controlled. The RX-7V is obviously primarily designed for racing, so Arai didn’t concentrate heavily on making it quiet, credit to them that it does so well
'The brow is a critical impact area' it would make you wonder about other sport touring helmets that have integrated sun visors in this area, great video, I'll be looking for one of these in the black tag sales next month, thanks.
Yes, thats the reason Arai say they won't develop one. Its an interesting take on it, but I have the say the Pro Shade worls very well. I've just a 2500 mile trip around Europe in the helmet and it was excellent
Great review. I may be in the market for a new helmet soon as my Shoei is getting a bit old. Will have to see if the Arai fits my noggin shape. Why do the colour schemes add so much to the price of a helmet? It can't be down to manufacture cost, can it?
Thanks, worth a try. I think it is Arais case because the graphics are all hand applied transfers. There’s quite a bit of work and extra materials that go into it
Good review I've never worn an Arai helmet, but I wish I could. I'm rounder in the shape of my head and I don't know if I can find one that suits me. In my country I can't find it at the specialty stores to try From Shoei only the Qwest model is ok for me
I've had my quantic for 2 years now. Very comfortable but I am disappointed with some of the little plastic bits breaking. The brow vents are fine as long as you don't use them. Use them and they will soon fall apart. The mouth vent cover is fragile too. I immediately modified the visor lock mechanism. Filed down the little hook that hooked on to the visor. I can easily open the visor at any time.
Great review thank you. I currently ride with a Profile V and it’s the most comfortable helmet I’ve worn (I tried Shoei and HJC but always come back to Arai). I will definitely have a look at the Quantic when it’s time to change. Why Arai ? I might not be the smartest peanut in the pack , but I would like to protect the little brain I have. 👍
WHYARAI? Because life can f*** your head up! This was a brilliant, in-depth review - no need for me to watch any others now. I'll be replacing my 4 yr-old RX7V with one of these 👍
had the helmet for a while now.. Helmet looks great, but cant use it really, so much wind draft inside the helmet, permanent in my eyes. makes long rides uncomfortable. Shame really... Even managed to get it in the Podium design. theres no way to extend the chin curtain, its just to short, turn your head to the side, and its like you've just opened the visor. But will have to swap for a Shoei NXR2... tested it this weekend, no problems here...
No problem, and good question. In reality they are much the same, it looks like the Quantic will replace the QV pro? The benefit of the Quantic is that its ece22.06, but then the QV Pro may well have passed as well given the Arai build quality
Great vid. Now considering purchasing this helmet but not sure of the pro shade being on outside and easily getting dirt on it. I’ve seen some ads on photochromatic pin-locks? Any thoughts on these if you’ve tried them?
Cheers, the pro shade works really well, the only problem I’ve encountered is mixed sun/shade combined with rain. Riding with the shade portion up in the rain means it gets dirty, so you do need to carry a cloth with you. I’ve not tried a photochromatic pinlock, but the visors are very good. I don’t think Arai have gone down that road yet
Interested to view this as I've tried on Arai helmets a couple of times but always found the Shoei helmets fitted my head shape better.. using the Neotech one and now the Neotech two with the built-in comm system by Sena... having said that I know a few riders who swear by Arai...As you point out in the review comfort and fit is all when relying on the helmet to perhaps save your life, as are most things in life you get what you pay for...
@@mancavemoto Yes, you're correct I have a Schuberth SR1, is a good fit, very quiet, until of course one festoons it, any helmet, with camera and/or intercom system that all generate noise.( one of the reasons I like the Neotech 2, its built-in) When its time to change I will have another look at Arai.
Top review and I’m using the pro shade very handy in the mixed weather in the uk. Does it fit like the rx7v? If so it won’t be for me I’m a debut or profile v fit head. 👍🏼
Thanks and yes I find the Pro Shade really useful. It fits like the Profile V, but with more room in the chin bar. I have a large in both helmets and once I’d switched to the thinner skull cap they are a perfect fit
Reviews I've read seemed to point out that Arai is probably the only major helmet brand that offer helmet for round head shape, suitable for smaller asian head sizes/shape. I might take a look Arai next time when it comes to replacing my LS2.
They make different head forms for different markets. So if you buy an Arai in Japan for example, it will fit differently to the same model you buy in Europe.
Thank you for a great review and I am super interested in this helmet, however, I have a question: What version of AT are you running and have you added a after market screen? I have a CRF1100L Africa Twin (2020 - base) with an aftermarket Puig screen and your remarks on noise are, for obvious reasons, very interesting to me. I added the screen because the OEM screen (the short one) is great for off road but at any speed over 120 kph it just becomes unbearable, for me obviously. With this screen it's a different bike. Thanks in advance!
Very good review. But no mention was made of the chin strap. How was the comfort of the chin strap? A couple of years ago, I was hoping to buy an Arai XD4 adventure helmet. The comfort was stellar until I did up the rather unpadded chin strap, and felt choked by it, particularly when dropping my chin down to test the peak against the setting sun. So I bought the Shoei Hornet X2 instead. Problem solved.
I have this helmet, it is really comfy even though its a snug fit. What I don't understand is it is really noisy, even with the vents open or closed it seems to pull air up from the bottom and past my ears. I've tried a multitude of ear plugs including injection moulded ones for industrial use but to no avail. Its really frustrating to have to keep my speed down to 50-60 mph or it gets unbearable. I wish I had tried it on the bike before removing the stickers!
Tony - thank you for the review. As a long-time Arai customer I can attest to their quality. But my latest (Quantum X) has been frustrating for noise and narrow base. Getting it off in particular is uncomfortable. You've answered the noise question. What's the Quantic like getting off and on? Is the circumference at the base a real brain squeeze?
Indeed, I have to say having tried many different Arai helmets, there doesn’t seem to be a consistent shape. The Quantic fits more like a Shoei, the profile V is fractionally rounder, the Rapide the same and I still cant get a perfect fit with the Tour X4, large is slightly too small, XL is slightly too big. They obviously make different helmets for different markets too. I understand that the domestic Japanese helmets have a rounder head form. I’m hoping to make a helmet fitting guide with the assistance of a professional helmet technician, so it will be interesting to get some tips
@@mancavemoto that would be so valuable!! RevZ and Billy etc try to do it but the world is really missing some science in helmet fitting guides. I think the helmet manufacturers could gain as much as the customers from that. 👍👍👍
The reality is a lot of existing helmets may well be able to meet the FRHPhe standard. But as it’s a purely for FIM circuit homologation, most manufacturers only look to put maybe one helmet model in for testing.
For all round use I would pick the Quantic. The RX7V is essentially a race helmet designed to work best in a tucked position. The Profile is a good helmet, but the quantic beats it on ventilation amongst other areas
considering only safety parameters, where do you rate the quantic in arai's helmets? I am asking that because it does meet the new standard, but the parameters are not given in relation to the other arai's helmets. Can it be said that it is the safest of arai's helment has released to until today??, and if not, which arai helmet is the safest?
Its a case now that all helmets will need to meet the ECE22.06 standard, I would expect Arai helmets to do that anyway, but eventually the whole range will be rated to that certification
Question about fit: I tried this helmet in a store today, and the salesperson tested the fit by rotating it up and down, while I kept my head still. Honest as he is, he did not want to sell me this helmet, because he could rotate the chinpiece up to about eye hight. Is he right about that? Is that indeed a valid reason not to buy this helmet? Is anyone else able to rotate it up that much? Is it maybe due to the increased size of the helmet's opening?
OK then that does sound like its too big. Here's a vid on helmet fitting i madew with the Arai Technician Joe Ross th-cam.com/video/Exjt5q9l1yU/w-d-xo.html
@@mancavemoto Thanks, nice video! Joe does not try to rotate the helmet up and down, like my salesperson did, only left and right. So, maybe that is not a good way to measure a helmet's fitment. I will just get a 2nd opinion somewhere else, because I really want this helmet :D

looking to buy a new helmet soon, and came across your review for this Arai helmet...is the Quantic the same as Profile-V (fit size)
Yes the Quantic and Profile V have the same head form, but the Quantic has a little more room on the chin area 👍
This looks amazing! But why are the reviews showing it as a matte style finish? Im so confused! I have to buy online as no where local stocks it :( ..
The black and gray version of this graphic is a Matt finish. I did notice that some of their helmet photography isn’t that great
Excellent review. Thorough and really well presented. 😊🦘
Glad you liked it!
Why not Whyarai. Good review thanks
ECE 22.06 is not bad but RX7-V is FRHP complient which is way better. Hopefully more helmets will go straight to the FIM standard.
The reality is a lot of existing helmets may well be able to meet the FRHPhe standard. But as it’s a purely for FIM circuit homologation, most manufacturers only look to put maybe one helmet model in for testing.
i’m looking for an arai helmet & hesitating getting the rx7,profile V , or this quantic … which one do u prefer ? (for city, long touring , all around)
For all round use I would pick the Quantic. The RX7V is essentially a race helmet designed to work best in a tucked position. The Profile is a good helmet, but the quantic beats it on ventilation amongst other areas
I'm between this and the new Shoei NXR / RF 1400
I’m hoping to get hold of one to review fairly soon
Hi. Only one question... NXR-2 or QUANTIC? Hard to choose...
It is, although I've not been able to try an NXR2 yet.
Hi and thank you for the review, can you use a hydration pack while wearing this helmet?
Thank you for your response
There’s plenty of room in the chin, so I don’t see why not
@@mancavemoto was just wondering since the chin curtain is not removable
it is very small though
Great video looks great imo. 👍
Thanks 👍
WHYARAI - Cause I don't want to die!
WhyArai? If you want to live to tell the tale that's why.
How is the comfort for a round shaped head?
Can you suggest which models are great for round head shape in Arai?
Hard to say, best bet is obviously to try it. The RX7V and Chaser X are a little rounder I think
what is the size of your arai quantic? Good review by the way.
Size Large
@@mancavemoto Thanks for responding. Keep making great videos!
Why arai... Well, family run, safety focused, no BS
considering only safety parameters, where do you rate the quantic in arai's helmets? I am asking that because it does meet the new standard, but the parameters are not given in relation to the other arai's helmets. Can it be said that it is the safest of arai's helment has released to until today??, and if not, which arai helmet is the safest?
Its a case now that all helmets will need to meet the ECE22.06 standard, I would expect Arai helmets to do that anyway, but eventually the whole range will be rated to that certification
Did you manage to remove the 5mm cheekpad after awhile?
I didn’t bother in the end, with the thinner skull cap it was a lovely fit
That looks particularly high profile as in bobble headed, maybe as a result of the new safety standards?
The camera angle with the wider lens for the on bike shots doesn't help to be honest
Ah gotcha 👍
WhyArai, they are the best Geordie helmet maker? Why Aye man
😂
I need a new helmet, nxr or quantic??? More confortable and quiet???
I haven't been able to get my hands on the new NXR2 yet sadly.
Jacket snap... How do you find the Wolf Laminated?
I really like it. It’s comfortable, warm and keeps me dry 👍
AFAIK the Shoei NXR 2 is the first ECE 22.06 helmet on the market
The Arai Quantic pipped it and got in there first.
Helmet is a no brainer here, but what about this cool jacket? What jacket is that? 🙏
It’s a Wolf Fortitude laminate jacket. th-cam.com/video/DsIOx_9aqzk/w-d-xo.html
WHY ARAI
it makes you love riding
Can you get photochromatic visors for the quantic?
Not yet, but I think you can get a photochromatic pinlock insert
Long Oval or Intermediate Oval or Ovall or Round ? Which Form Factor ?
I would put this as an intermediate oval
What head shape is this helmet designed for?
As mentioned in the video, its an intermediate oval fit.
Why is it called quantic? Is contourx and quantic the same helmets?
Thank you in advance
Arai name the helmets differently in different regions. Yea those two names are the same helmet 🤪
@@mancavemoto thank you very much
Is it the same sort of fit as a Shoei? Shoei is the one helmet I’ve found that fits like a glove
Similar, very slightly shorter front to back but not by very much
Not sure if Arai the Quantic was the first to be certified ECE06… the Schubert C5 is ECE06 and has been on the market for over a year…
It was the first ECE22.06 helmet available for sale in the UK and Europe and was launched before the C5. This video was released in Apr 2021.
Way I Arai nowt wrong wid these lids , man canny
🇬🇧🍺👍🏻
When will this be on sale in the US
No Idea sorry
Why Arai? They’ve saved my head plenty of times in 20 years
You missed lock on strap. I t is very important for me because of my Arthritis in my hands.
True, Arai only ever use double d ring straps, but I should have mentioned that
When will it come to US???
'shrug'
What head shape is the helmet? Intermediate oval, long oval, round oval?
Its an intermediate oval
@@mancavemoto Thanks!
Please compare it with NXR2 and K6
K6 review coming tomorrow. No news on when the NXR2 will be available yet
@@mancavemoto thats great.. will be waiting :)
Is this intermediate oval?
Yes it is
Question about fit: I tried this helmet in a store today, and the salesperson tested the fit by rotating it up and down, while I kept my head still.
Was the chinstrap done up?
@@mancavemoto Yes
OK then that does sound like its too big. Here's a vid on helmet fitting i madew with the Arai Technician Joe Ross th-cam.com/video/Exjt5q9l1yU/w-d-xo.html
@@mancavemoto Thanks, nice video! Joe does not try to rotate the helmet up and down, like my salesperson did, only left and right. So, maybe that is not a good way to measure a helmet's fitment. I will just get a 2nd opinion somewhere else, because I really want this helmet :D
Is there Arai with Bluetooth and sun visor ?
In short, no
@@mancavemoto thanks
Will this helmet make its way over to the USA?
I believe it will, but I don't know what name it will go under.
Hi ! What about head shape ?
Good point, intermediate oval
