Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT SE+ Review | Luxury Sports ADV Tourer
Released initially in 2007 as a 650 model, the #Kawasaki #Versys has always been known for delivering comfort, practicality, value and reliability. But for 2018, Kawasaki injected luxury and technology into the Versys 1000, and increased the price by a whopping $5,000. What do you get for the $18,199 MSRP, and is it worth the money? Can it compete with the higher end European offerings like the KTM 1290 Adventure, R1250GS, Ducati Multistrada, and S1000XR?

My wife swore she'd never ride pillion on another bike after suffering on my '09 Suzuki V-Strom 650. Until I bought the '18 Versys 1000. Now she's game to go anywhere, she loves it so much. I agree; best bike I've ever owned and at 73, trust me, I've owned a few.

I'm on my second V1000. I now have a 2019 SE GT with the earlier electronic suspension. I have always preferred an upright riding position and now I have arthritis in both wrists a sports tourer is even further off my radar. This bike suits me very well indeed and we find it a perfect two-up tourer with enough luggage capacity for us to get away for 10 days before we have to think about doing some laundry. That's a similar capacity to our last bike: a 2004 BMW K1200LTSE. I swapped from a Mark 2 Versys to gain cruise control so I could ease my right wrist when it aches.
I agree with your summary but one thing you didn't mention is its handling, which is deceptively good. I'm not a hard rider, especially as I ride with my wife on the back about 95% of the time, yet I use most of the tread without thinking about it because the bike gives me so much confidence. I disagree about it needing more power. I don't use the 120 it has so why would I want 150? You'd almost certainly lose a lot of that torque which makes it so flexible from 2,000 rpm in any gear. Give me mid-range torque over top-end power any day.
How would I summarise the bike? It is a bike for long-distance, road-based touring and it has enough power and torque for the work it's designed to do. It handles lightly and easily, stops well - better than my Mark 2 - and is comfortable. At 6' 1" I found the OEM screen slightly too short and I've replaced it with an MRA Vario and that's made a big difference. My wife is very happy on the back, finding it no effort to travel 300+ miles a day. That may not sound a lot to US riders but it's not bad for the U.K. and we're 69 and 70, too!

I have been riding this bike for 2 months now and 2000 km. I generally agree with the video comments, with a few differences. Windscreen: I did not find it very protective, replaced it by an after sale ( Puig) which is wider and taller, but still I get turbulences on the sides of my head. Gets tiring on highway. Heated grips: power level shows off by repeated light signals: very odd, and dangerous as you have to watch the grip for that. Gas tank mileage: I come close to 400 km, 248 miles, not driving sporty way nor too quiet way. Handling: I got used to it instantly, much easier in town than my previous Tiger 800 xca. Engine: quiet at low speeds, which I appreciate very much whilst riding in town or passing through villages. In the end: this bike is a fancy mean of transport. You use the bike with purpose of travelling, you don’t travel with real purpose to use the bike !

@@pascallenoir5917 screens are a bit like tyres, I think, with each having its fervent advocates and detractors. So much about bikes is personal, isn't it? With my OEM screen I had turbulence at the top of my helmet. The MRA screen is taller so I expected that I'd still need to have it at the highest setting to push the air above my head but no. The top of the deflector is roughly where the top of the OEM screen was for the best results and, strangely , the airflow is worse if the screen's higher. Have you tried playing with the height on yours?

Good on you Sir! We all have situations that influence our choice of ergos. I been riding more upright (Super Tenere and Africa Twin) for 10+ years. Although I like the upright position better than a full-on-sport-bike forward lean, I'd like something with an ever-so-slight forward lean. I have an unbalanced situation in my upper back because of nerve damage in my left arm and shoulder area. With a slight lean forward, my back doesn't tie itself in knots trying yo keep the spine straight. This is why I have been looking at the Ninja 1000sx. Would you characterize the Versys ergos as bolt upright or slightly forward? Thanks.

Understanding this is older (and great) review but thought I'd add late comment. I bought an '18 BMW R1200RT in CA. Loved that bike. I moved to Idaho where the only dealership was acquired by a big auto/boat/RV dealership group. Service is really poor and they had little interest in selling me a new bike. Traded RT for '22 Versys 1000 and was treated very fairly on trade. Miss the BMW but am very happy with Kawasaki. So... wordy comment but takeaway I'd like to leave is if you live on east or left coast, Euro bikes great option. In more remote regions there will always be Honda & Kawaski dealers close enough.

Recently got a ‘19 LT+. It’s a revelation, and the antithesis to the big ADVs and bloated touring and sport touring bikes, in my opinion. I’ve had several large touring bikes in the different styles. It’s so light and nimble with the perfect amount of power to match the fairings. I’m pretty sure that any more power would contribute to instability at very high speeds; not that I would know, of course. 118hp is good. So happy to have an I-4 again; perfect touring engine for me, and preferable to the other engines you mentioned. Nothing like a strong I-4. It’s the best overall riding experience I’ve ever had. Great machine. Glad I got past the looks and height and tried it. Instantly hooked. This bike is about the package, not just the engine. Nothing else like it.

I have this bike and currently also have a DR650. I’ve had many bikes in the past, Harleys, Vstrom and Yamaha. I have plenty of off road riding and long distance experience, two time Iron Butt rider. Saying all that, I currently have 9000 miles on this bike and I’ve done a lot of dirt roads, gravel roads and some mild sandy roads. It’s not a bike to bash on the rough terrain but most people don’t have the skills for that anyway. I love the bike and believe it’s the best I’ve ever had. I don’t hesitate to ride on road all day and then turn onto the occasional unknown dirt road. I thank most “adventure “ bike owners are like a lot of Jeep owners, they but then for what they’re capable of but most don’t use them off road. Yes I’m a Jeep CJ owner and I drive it off road. If you like a bike and think it’s for you, go for it. Don’t let others tell you what it “should or should not” be used for. Enjoy the ride!

I first have to say how much I enjoy your motorcycle reviews, good, crisp, thorough with lots of comparison points to other bikes to work with.
I start out by saying I'm a Kawasaki rider and have been since I replaced my BSA in 1977. All of my Kawasakis have been extraordinarily reliable and have given me to opportunity to ride a lot without a lot of repairs or expense: KZ650, 80K, no repairs; KZ1000J, 45K, no repairs; Connie 1000, 120K, one repair (final drive bearing, the only major repair I ever needed on a K bike); ZX1100E (GPZ), 106K, no repairs. Plus some others.
Getting to be pretty old now, the Versys looks as though it should be the answer to replacing my "big road bike" FJR1300 that's getting too heavy.
Last summer I had the good fortune to be offered a ride from here in Chicagoland to upper West Virginia and back on two Versys 1000s. A friendly dealer sold a 2020 to a fellow who wanted to trade his low-mile 2016. So I rode the '20 east on the Turnpikes and the '16 back on the two-laners.
If I owned a 1000, I would insist on lowering it a bit. As age attacks, a lower seat height and narrower frame gets more important (wait; you'll see).
The '20 had the gadgets, the '16 was less techy. But the older bike had a Corbin seat that fit me to a T, even better than the '20's stocker.
I agree the '20's cruise control is a bit odd, pretty awkward compared to a Wing's (two of which spoiled me all to pieces). The quickshifter was mushy indeed and I finally tuned it out.
But the wind protection was exceptional as mentioned. I was 400 miles along I-80 before I even realized how non-battered I was, particularly in the helmet.
The superb Kawasaki sidecases got, I think, short shrift in the review. They are a huge plus. I have been ruined into being unable to travel without good sidecases ever since my old BMW R100RT, and the Kawasaki ones do very well. My wife had an '18 Versys 650LT with them.
On the way home I took the 1800-mile '16 on two-laners the long way (with the approval of the dealer) and found a very compatible traveling companion. I was so at home on that thing that I almost didn't want to bring it back to the dealer.
Yeah, but I'm at a point where I'd rather have four to six older bikes than one newer, expensive-er one, so I didn't make any deals.
Still wondering if I was right not to, though, that '16 was just the thing for rattling off 500-700 mile days.

Nice review, I have to agree for the most part. I have put 20K on my 2019 Versys LTSE and 38K on a 2015 Versys. I came off a C-14 after riding it for 90K. It is amusing when folks start talking about power. I ride two up 90% of the time on all types of roads. I live in Arkansas so we have twisty roads a plenty. I ride with guys all all types of bikes and I can easily hold my own. Plenty of real world power. The engine is rock solid and I like the fact that it is a little unique. Its a great machine. For me it is a little small, could be ~ 3 cm higher and the sign is a little too low for me in the highest position, I bought an additional sign. The Versys definitely has enough horsepower. And all in all, I am very satisfied. Bought used for 15000 € with 7000km.

I've had my UK spec 2020 Versys 1000 SE GT for a year now, and I looked at a lot of reviews before and after buying it. Your review of this new for 2021 US spec 1000 LT SE+ is the best I've seen. Can I respectfully make a few points?
#1 You say that the price is close to similar "higher end" European bikes such as BMW. I don't know what these cost in the US, but using the online BMW "configurator" here in the UK, I very quickly added thousands to the base price of the S1000XR in order to bring it up to the standard configuration of my Versys. So my calculations suggested that the prices weren't really close at all. Add in lower servicing costs and better reliability for Japanese bikes and it was an easy decision.
#2 I lost a little faith when you said that you "actually had to read the manual" to work out how to use some of the controls. I can never understand why people think it's an admission of defeat to read the instructions for a complex machine in which they have invested a lot of money. It also disappoints me that most professional reviewers seem to take the same attitude. The Versys manual is very clearly set out, and is available online. The cruise control is actually very easy to use: if you read the instructions. And I wonder if this is the reason why you failed to show the colour display option on the TFT screen, which I think is really cool and is my preferred option (it also shows my lean angle!)
#3 When comparing to smaller, lighter bikes like the Yamaha Tracer 900, remember that smaller also means a lower payload, way lower in the case of the Tracer. In fact, Yamaha recommend that a top case is not fitted to this bike. These are important considerations for those of us wishing to go touring, particularly two up.
#4 Finally, I'm puzzled by the reference to "a lack of power". It's a touring bike, not a sports bike, it doesn't need 160+ bhp and a power band. You were doing very illegal speeds very quickly, how fast do you want to go, or do you not want to keep your licence? In my opinion, Kawasaki have taken a very brave and sensible decision to turn away from the BMW/Ducati/KTM arms race, by tuning their superb 1000cc inline four to produce the smooth linear torque appropriate for this style of bike.
Thanks again for review, I am now subscribed!

What Kawasaki needs to do is stop fooling around and make the Versys x 400 already, which basically means take the x 300, put the 400 engine in it with as little change or complexities as possible, maybe add a wee-weeee bit more suspension travel and definitely serve it with sturdy undercarriage protection. Perhaps a simple SIMPLE rear ABS bypass switch but that's getting ambitious. That's all. They will kill with that.

      @jsprite123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I know, they replaced the 300 engine with the newer 400 in 2 bikes already, why still the Versys 300?

    • @ajsmotolife5641
      @ajsmotolife5641 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@jsprite123 They are still making the Ninja 300/Z300 for other markets and the 250 as well. The 250/300 share 90% of there components and the Versys 250/300 are much more popular in Asian countries with displacement laws than in the U.S. The 400 is basically an all new bike. They sold the VX300 the states as a stand in for the KLR. So it's a combination of cost savings and Kawi not seeing a large enough market for it.

I put over 8000 miles on my 2019 Versys 1000 SE Lt+ since I picked it up in August of 2019 for $15K new. It's been a GREAT bike. I like the seating position and style of adventure bikes but I have zero intention of going off road ANY time ever. I'd rather take it in the N GA/NC twisties than take any bike on anything other than a gravel road. The cruise is wacky but you get used to it.. You hold down the + to increase speed... etc.. I use at all the time and enjoy it. Hopefully they add active cruise to the next model. On long highway rides it's extremely comfortable and the cruise works. I do wish it had just a tad more power but honestly, I ride it in road mode most of the time so when I get a bit better/quicker throttle response switching it to sport, it's almost enough for me to not envy those with more power. It's good. Just not WOW... I'm okay with "good". =)

I owned a 2019 Versys 1000 LT SE + and enjoyed it very much. I have a problem with motorcycles, I see one and I need another one, counting 43 of them so far. Nonetheless, this Versys is FANTASTIC, I wouldn't hesitate buying one! Kawasaki is known for their durability, they aren't like others that if you flog them, you have problems down the road. The electronic suspension was the best I have ever had...and I currently have a BMW R1200Rt w/electronic suspension. Included in the bike, is the IMU, which I LOVED, it gives you a lot of safety. Once, after a snow event, a road had a lot of gravel put down. I intentionally took the bike on the road to get the back end to let loose while making the corner...and while being careful not to do a stupid! I couldn't believe how torque output was limited and kept the bike from going "loose" and out of control If you love the howl from the cowl, you will LOVE this bike!

Good review. I bought a S version in March: everything exactly the same, except electronic suspension, 15.1k€. I traded an AfricaTwin CRF1000 standard 2018 or that bike. Before the AT I had a 90 HP Guzzi Norge 2007 model. By now, I have ridden about 6000km on the Versys. For me, it is definitely a better bike than the AT to travel 2-up. My wife says her head suffers much less turbulence at highway speed, she prefers the Versys seat by far and she feels much less shocks from road bumps. However her legs are slightly more cramped on the Versys. For me the seats of both bikes offer similar comfort but my legs are a bit more crampled on the V. The wind protection is better on the Kawasaki for the upper body and way better for the legs. Although I have not the electronic suspensions (which are a real plus for touring), I easily found correct settings for full load 2 up travel. The AT rear shock spring was really too weak for such conditions and I had to change it for an hyperpro. Riding solo, the suspension of the Versys is firmer than the Honda's on speed bumps but still accepts very tiny bumpy roads. Drawbacks of the V are: it is heavy (20kgs more than the AT) and takes a bit more gas than the 1000cc Honda, about half liter more per 100k, and maybe even more if you are a high speed addict. The seat height is relatively high but the engine weight is placed much lower than on the AT which I dropped 4 times in 2 years. No drop of the Kawa until now. The sound of the V is gentle but it takes on my ears after hours. I hesitated a bit between the Versys and the Vstrom 1050XT. I found the Vstrom easier to handle at walking speed but I did not like the engine and the winfdprotection. I also did not like the need of extra large hard case mountings for the Suzuki. The panniers of the Versys do not create handling problems and are not too wide but they would be better with 3 or 4 liters more capacity. Beyond 100mph the Honda is much more stable., but fact is that it becomes nearly impossible to ride so fast. Well, in Europe offroading is forbidden in many regions. Many small or fire roads are only allowed for agricultural or forest service. I am not longing for more power from this Versys; I would prefer a 20kgs diet. This being said, it is a very pleasant bike to ride every day.

I had a Honda Africa Twin prior to my Vstrom, and I thought the 21 inch front tire on the AT made it feel less stable at speed. I’m a bit surprised it would handle better than the versys.

@@erocnw1341 In short radius bends, I find the front wheel of the Versys more nimble and sure-footed, especially ont the wet, but on high speeds on highways (let us say 100mph in Germany :-) , my Versys ridden solo with a top case tends to wobble a bit more than the AT. As a pillion, my wife definitely prefers the Versys. On the AT, the feet of the passenger collide with the calves of the pilot, the passenger gets more buffeting. Last but not the least, climbing on the rear seat of a fully loaded trail-bike becomes tedious beyond a certain age...

I love sport touring bikes and have a BMW 800GT with a 3 case system. I also love the ADV bikes and also have a Suzuki V-Strom with a 3 case system. To me this Versy's is the perfect bike.... it is a sport tourer with an ADV bike upright/tall riding position. So I could be very happy with just one bike if it was the Versys 100 LT SE+. You can find left over models a year or two old for $15k to 16k and I think that's the way to go when puchasing one of these. There are even a few 2019's still around brand new if you search.

As someone that owned a ZRX1200 for 15 years, I'm a big fan of Kawasaki inline fours. However I currently own a 2014 Versey 650 and a 2019 V Strom 1000xt Adventure.. The name Versey refers to Versatile System. This bike is clearly a sport tourer. At this price point, it should be a shaft drive. I think the 650 and my V Strom 1000 are more versatile, while this is a much nicer sport touring bike. Thanks for another great review!

Your right about the price vs value variable on the current Ver1000. I was seriously looking at going to a1 Ver000cc in 2020-21 but I did not want to go over $12-15k US including taxes & fees. The Ver1000 tax & fees will probably break $20k in my area this year. I might as well go back to a basic 1200cc touring BMW. So I will focus on a pre-owned 1000 or a Ver650 priced for about $12k w/ tax fees. But I really like the new Ver1000s.

I switched last year from a KTM 1290 SAR to the Ninja 1000 SX. The Ninja is actual the perfect Tourer for me. For the offroad actions I finished the restauration of an old Suzuki DR BIG 750. Last weekend I got the Versys and it was really good. Sure you realize the plus weight in comparison to the Ninja and may the engine is not so strong but it is enough - also for German highways ;-) Will wait for the next update / version of the Versys and it will be something for me.

Today (January 2023) I test rode this and the S1000XR back to back. The XR was horrible for me. The XR had a very crude and unrefined feel. The engine had horrible vibration everywhere on the rev range and in some portions was absolutely unbearable. The mirrors were blurry the entire ride. For me this made any power advantage for the XR a moot point. The Versys engine had some vibration below 2500 rpm, it was glass smooth and the mirrors crystal clear throughout the rev range. The riders triangle was much more comfortable than the XR as well. It was roomy without a long stretch the bars, and my knees were at a comfortable angle. The Versys power was more than adequate and I found it thrilling to ride. Handling was superb. This is a motorcycle that I had underestimated by a wide margin, and the Versys 1000 is really a fantastic motorcycle.

I've watched so many shoot-out videos on these sport adv. bikes trying to get a feel for this Versys1000 and yours is the BEST and MOST HELPFUL of them all.!!! So, congrats on your thoughtful evaluation with the buyer in mind. I am 99% sure I want to pull the trigger on a 2021 Demo SE LT+ at my local dealer and this video helped me to crystallize my decision. I'm coming off a 2008 Concours 14 and realized a couple of things that were a match for me on this Versys: (1) I'm 57 yrs and don't need, nor use all the power on the Connie 14. (2) After about 4 hours on the Connie, my back and wrists are toast!, (3) I would be happier on a more mellow bike with less weight and a more comfortable position. (4) I definitely don't need the shear performance of the BMW, KTM, or Ducati.... i just wouldn't use it, based on how I ride. So, again... thanks so much for this great eval!! Cheers!

My son purchased a Z1000SX recently and is delighted with his choice, but when I tried it, I found the power excessive and positively scarey! I own a 2016 Versys 1000, purchased new out the door for 13k July 2016. Replaced a 2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200N that I was knock off of fall 2015. I’ve wanted this bike since Kawasaki released it in Europe in 2012. In fact, I much preferred the headlamp setup of the early European bikes to my 2016. Electronic suspension is nice, until it is not and requires a rebuild. I’ll take my more mundane manual adjustment suspension. Cable actuated clutch is light cause this engine/trans uses an assist/slipper clutch. I road tested a Kawasaki Concours during a 2013 Kawasaki demo day and did not like the heavy front end during direction changes. Versys much easier to throw around in corners. Three things I don’t like about my 2016 bike. No tire pressure monitoring. Solved that with an aftermarket add on. No cruise control. Have a throttle lock now. May pick up a McCruise some day. The headlights honestly SUCK. I have added a pair of Denali D4’s to the bike but if I run them in traffic all sorts of whining happens from other drivers. May need to upgrade to the duel intensity D4’s. My biggest positive on my bike or even the newer ones: When my butt or my knees hurt on a ride I can stand up on the pegs to stretch without affecting my ability to control the bike, kinda like when offroad. Not so easy on my old Bandit. I’m spoiled by my bike cause at 13k out the door, this motorcycle was a bargain. Unfortunately this is no longer the case with the 2019+ models. Shame.

I bought one last year. The pricing is pretty negotiable. 10K miles later, I'm super happy with it. My riding is mostly >1hr work commute, and playing in the mountains or taking road trips. I wanted the 4cyl for highway smoothness. As someone over 6ft, its hard to find a sporty feeling bike that does those well and doesn't feel small. I think of it as a really big FZ6 / SV650 with bags. It checks all of my boxes, and never feels like the bike is "in the way" of what I want it to do. I was happy to trade some higher end peak power for lower end torque with a passenger on board.

For the guy who can wheelie and likes to push the IMU is smart….capable and not intrusive in socal mountain roads… IHAD to get a MRA screen for it (buffering) and holy moly much much better.. smooth and up to speeds and comfortable buffeting for a 5”11 guy 200 lbs plus the electronics suspension is excellent as well as the triple… it’s so not a ninja motor.. but so not a bad motor.. torque immediate low and handles so well on Palomar mountain … I wouldn’t try more than 300 miles on the tracer 9gt tho even w my Corbin seat… the Kwai is just not a toy…. Another great review with plenty of useful detail and never boring. One feature I always want to hear about but almost never do from any reviewer is how the bike is with two-up touring. When I am looking to buy a bike, it has to please my wife or I won't get it. I want to know about seat comfort for both riders--is there room for two and can you sit in it for many hours? And how does it do when passing a line of cars going uphill? The seat on the Versys 1000 looks plush for both riders. This information would make your review a 10 out of 10 instead of a 9.8 out of 10. Thanks again for doing a superb video that gives us the info we really want and need.

Very good, thorough overall review though. I suppose the upright ergos in an otherwise sporty package is the appeal here, but all things considered, the AT adv sports ES brings you the same ergos and features, at about the same price point, with the added ability to take it off road, should you choose. I find having that option quite liberating.

After reading several of the comments on owner's reviews of their Versys's...or is that Versyi(?) : ), I'd like to add a few comments. When I first became aware of the newly remodeled Versys in 2015, I was immediately struck by it's design and look. I read every review in MC magazines (Rider Magazine's MOTY for 2015) and TH-cam reviews. The US price at that time was $12,999, so close to $15.000 out the door. However, one thing bothered me: As a regular at SoCal's Rock Store, I never saw one. Everyone of my friends & acquaintances hadn't as well, either at the RS or on the road. You see every kind of MC at the RS and I wondered why. The only reason I could think of was the Versys was a baseline Sport Touring quasi Adventure MC. Most of the people interested in this type of MC were probably over 40, had money and wanted MC's like the BMW GS 1250, KTM 980 and Ducati Multi Strada, which have more HP, heated grips, cruise control, electronic suspension and in the BMW, shaft drive. All were well over $20,000. If you had the money however, why not get all the goodies.
The Versys still had an appeal to me and as the years passed, I noticed that Kawasaki was offering huge savings on the Versys because it wasn't selling. So in June of 2017, I purchased a brand new leftover 2016 Versys for................drumroll...........$10,500 out the door. I had 2 dealerships competing with one another for my business.
One of the main reasons I've loved this MC is its rarity. In the 5 years of ownership, I've seen maybe 15 on the road, 3 in Italy on a 2018 trip. I've added a a taller Puig windscreen, Ciro phone holder/charger, Master Bike cup holder, Kawasaki projector lights, Givi 57 liter rear trunk & rack and changed the rear sprocket from the stock 43 tooth to a 42 tooth to lower the rpm at cruising speed. I was hesitant about a chain drive MC, but despite the fact of maintenance, it lasted 33,000 miles! At this point my Versys has over 51,000 miles and has been completely reliable other than tires, brakes, new chain/rear sprocket and a burn out low beam bulb a couple years ago(BTW-pain in the butt to change.)
It would be nice if it had another 20 hp, but don't say it's not a powerful MC. You were pushing 100 mph on your test ride and getting there quickly. It has plenty of power in the real world and as you mentioned, it has a great induction sound.. As far as I know, my Versys is the first and maybe only Versys (haven't checked the IBA website in 2022) to complete the IBA Saddle Sore 1000 in October of 2020.To say I'm happy with this bike is an understatement. It's probably the best all around MC I've ever owned in over 50 years.
BTW-The road you were on looks like the highway near Idyllwild, California. Is that correct?

    • @hardcore88
      @hardcore88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry for my poor math. It should have read $12,999 retail and $14,000 out the door with tax, license and registration.I also added foam grips, throttle wrist assist and deer whistles. I failed to mention the suspension which provides a supple yet sporting ride with the proper adjustments. The Versys is also a light MC for its category. The pre 2019 models were 544 lbs, with saddle bags and 524 without. The result is a very flickable, excellent handling MC. It is a tall bike, so people under 5' 10" or with a short inseam will have a tough time planting both feet on level ground. I'm 6'2" with a 34 inseam and long legs, so it fits me like a glove. Ergonomically, an extremely comfortable bike.
I do plan on updating to a 2020 or 2021 with all the electronic upgrades in the Kawasaki green, an indication on how much I enjoy this MC.

If you want a sport tourer Kawasaki has you covered. The Ninja 1000 for sport riding, the Concours 14 for big power and the Versys 1000 for touring. There does seem to be a lot of overlap. A stellar review in almost all key respects -- it is thorough, detailed, and helpful to every
potential viewer. In addition, yours is also an incredibly smooth and easy to listen to
manner of speech; you have no discernible verbal tics ( whereas almost all the others
out there have habits of speech that range from mildly annoying to downright irritating ).
One small criticism I might offer however--smile -- I'd say "smile more," but since I didn't
glimpse a single smile at any point, I'll just suggest that you SMILE once in a while. OK?

You seem to have just two modes of liking something. You either "really like" sth, or you "really really like" sth. :-) Deleting one "really" in each variant would really help the listening experience. Loving the content. Keep up the good work.

I’m seriously thinking about buying one. I’m more of a Yamaha guy, but the Tracer 9 gt can’t beat that comfort.

I live in the UK. I have the S model which does away with the electronic suspension, but has eveything else, apart from full luggage(free panniers at time of purchase in May 21). I bought the top box additionally. All for £2000 less than the SE.

Great review! I have a 2015 Kawasaki Concours 14. I love the rush of hard acceleration my bike has. In 2016 I test rode both the Ninja 1000 and the Versys 1000 while at a rally in SW Colorado. The Ninja 1000 impressed me a lot with its rush of power in any gear. The ergonomics, not so much. The Versys 1000 impressed me a lot with the riding comfort. The wide, tall handlebars were very comfortable. Even though the Versys has the Ninja's engine, it has been severely de-tuned to the point that it's really boring to ride. Your observations are spot on.

How does it compare to the Kawasaki Concours in the twisties. I know C-14 is heavier. Thank you.

@@EEEBA1 Unfortunately, the test ride (put on by Kawi) was on boring roads - no twisties.

Very informative very detail review, thank you. I have been looking around for this bike I always been a kawasaki fan from the zx10r in 2004 to the vulcan 900c on 2013 I am convinced that this versys may be under power for more reliability but I could be wrong..still in my top 3 soon to decide..once again thank you.👍

It may be what I am looking for. I currently ride a HD Roadglide SE but would like something lighter with more advanced suspension. I am precisely in your suggested the target audience. I love the tech features. Not thrilled with chain drive and disappointed to hear the cruise control isn't well implemented.

It's nice when you give us the ergos before you ride out. I like knowing if you can flat-foot the bike on both sides. I watch for that in reviews and few do it.

I'm looking at this as well as the Goldwing B. I currently have a DCT bike and the Goldwing with it's DCT is a plus but the weight and width is a minus.
