A front license plate wouldn't have changed anything in this case. Even after they found the correct car and it's owner, there was still no evidence that he was the driver on that night. The best piece of evidence in this case was testimony, from the lady who testified against him that she witnessed him cleaning the car, the knife, and telling her to mind her own business. Without that, even the knife containing both of their DNA might not have been enough for a conviction. Front license plates don't do anything to solve murders, all they do is help the state send you petty traffic tickets more easily.
I’ve watched a couple episodes of this on different programs and it was showing the moms holding escher and so update that they both were in this situation … one was never going to see their child again and one was going through jail for life and she realized her child had gone such a horrific thing

@jimwerther or the Ma'khia Bryant case. I am so sick of these mothers who try to defend the actions of their criminal children.
Thankfully they have added security features now. Always make sure to verify my security pin with the driver aside from ensuring the car & driver description is a match.
This broke my heart. It took a lot for me to cry after watching my mom pass from cancer. I balled my eyes out hearing about this case. Cases like these are what made me pursue a career in criminal justice. I’m so thankful justice was served for her. So terrible.
This case definitely made me more diligent when using Uber. I confirm the license plate and that the driver knows my name before entering. I also share my trip details with a friend or family member. She is absolutely saving lives.
This “what’s my name?” thing only protects passengers and does not protect drivers. Especially when passengers use the app to order a ride for someone else and decide not to disclose that to the driver before hand. Also 90 percent of passengers do not use their real name or put up a photo. Drivers have no idea who they are picking up. Whereas Uber and Lyft give passenger’s literally all the info they need so stuff like this don’t happen. Passengers get a profile picture, license plate, car make and model and color.

Props to the judge for shutting down the mother. It never fails to amaze me how much I see … Parents of a convicted suspect trying to convince a judge that their son/daughter is a “good person.”
Thank you to the girlfriend who found the bravery to testify. You didn’t notice all the blood in the back. You try to sell the phones. And trust me if someone committed a murder in my car, you best believe I’m getting on the stand.
How sad that she was celebrating starting a new chapter or her life, getting into law school and completing her degree for a lawless monster to take hers like that. Shame on that mother for not even extending empathy to the family who lost their daughter. Truly a sad case. Glad Justice was served.
A substantial issue that plagues many people is the lack of their surroundings and awareness and ability of self-defense. Too many people are too trusting about individuals who they know nothing about. Start training individuals to always think proactively instead of trusting without having trust earned first
I found it hilarious how she was trying to testify and claim that he was innocent after he was convicted. 🤣 She needs to go back under the rock that she poked out from!
The fact that you’re calling a mother fighting for her child “disgusting” makes YOU disgusting. Remember, this is the justice system which convicts innocent people ALL THE TIME. 1 in 20 people in prison right now are innocent. Even the most cut and dry trials come to light 20, 30 years later and the real monsters go free. I’m not saying he’s innocent or guilty, I’m just saying it’s a mother’s responsibility to fight for her children no matter what, and if in the unlikely event he is innocent, you’re the exact type of person who’d be saying “what a great mom WOW!” Daft, daft minds.

I was a young female, too scared to argue with him - I did at first but he got angry and wouldn't stop the car until I gave him the cash. I was so upset afterward, but this case makes me realize how much worse it could have been. Rest in peace, Samantha.
I realize that as a young female in a stressful situation we don't always think straight in the moment, but for anyone who's ever in a similar situation you should call Uber customer service immediately (if they're an actual Uber driver) to get that driver's account suspended. If you feel threatened call 911. As soon as you get out of the car get the license plate # (even a partial could help police). One of the questions I was hoping they'd answer is how the guy got her phone away from her before she could call for help?
Because of this case, I have been double checking how I verify I’m in the correct car, ie license plate and to make sure the driver knows my name. I’m definitely more careful. May Samatha rest in peace. And May God give her family comfort.
Uber should be doing this on their own. With mobile devices, a two-way handshake for mutual verification is very easy. I used to drive for Uber for a bit and sometimes, I was unsure the person in my vehicle was the one who ordered it.
@@awshortclips my husband and I went to manhattan to see Nas at Madison square garden in February. Afterwards, we went to get dinner and we got an Uber to take us back to Weehawken. The app told us in real time who our driver was, what he looked like, where he was and what surprised me was how fast he got to us, considering this was midtown, right after a concert from the garden was let out on a Friday night. The app told us the make and model of the SUV, as well as the plate number. Uber now has made it to where it’s now impossible to get into the wrong vehicle.

I hate when they say “he had no scratches on him. How that happens is beyond me” well you better believe it happened. Her blood was all over the car and that’s proof enough. RIP Samantha ❤️
I'm sure it was brought up in court, just didn't make it in cut for this episode, but look at how he was dressed trying to use her debt card. The thick leather jacket he was wearing. The gloves, head covering, that is why he had no signs of her fighting back on him. He was basically wearing body armor for her fighting back with just her hands.
He could have immediately wounded her enough so that she COULDN'T fight back. Also, some victims are so frozen with fear, that they just don't fight back.

You need to look up the TRUE definition of a 'hero'. People throw that word around so easily and it loses its true meaning. Be careful who you label a 'hero'.
@kim6439 she went against her "friend", in order to allow justice to be served. She was a huge reason the defendant got convicted- her honesty and forthcoming nature aided the investigation and the trial . I'm sure to the family of the victim, she was heroic. But, I hear what you're saying. There are a lot of words (amazing for example) that are used too often and too casually.
@@Rainbowsun1 Yes she did, she was very brave for that. That took a ton of courage, I don't know if I would call her a hero though. That word should be used in its correct way, otherwise the true meaning of the word gets taken away when it's just thrown out so much.
Definitely the saddest story I've ever heard. The monsters delusional mother should be ashamed of herself to keep believing he is innocent. I agree with you on the judge but the parents should not be blamed. Once you reach adult age, you reach the age of a accountability. That means his parents are not responsible for what HE did. He knows he did. They have him, they have evidence. Her blood was on the knife that he had been seen cleaning. Plus he has said nothing to what happened that night, no remorse. I'm also glad the judge say his mother down. He's not a good man.

@newempire158 Sure, being a divorced mother and having law abiding, educated young men isn't possible, is it? Perhaps it's the lack of support for those mothers? Perhaps the father is nowhere to be found. Being a single mother does NOT equal children who become criminals. Shame on you.

Yikes. One of the DUMBEST comments I’ve ever read. I hope you gain control of your own mind someday.

You are so right he is a compassionate judge and I'm sure a very wise man I think Alex M. totally discusted him he had to have pic of Murdaugh grandfather taken off the wall so as not to jeopardize that trial and he practice law in same court rooms as A.M. dad as well he must of had an interesting career overseeing these types of cases.....It was very smart of the mom to ask Uber driver who they are there for that may have prevented her murder!!!!!
