- Porcupine Tree // Cheating The Polygraph // Live from Anesthetize (Tilburg)
One of my favourite PT songs.
I do not own the rights of the video, which has been uploaded merely to advertise the Anesthetize DVD and encourage its purchase. - เพลง
I stayed at the same hotel as them when they were in Tampa in 2010. I was lucky enough to *chat* with Gavin Harrison & Richard Barbieri over coffee outside the hotel. They were down to earth and easy to talk to. They asked if the show was TOO loud last night and I told them YOUR MUSIC is NEVER loud enough!!!!!
you lucky human
omg thats amazing lol
That's awesome. Amazing musicians.
Lucky!!
You lucky ❤
Gavin acts as a chef in songs. He carefully adds the required spices and in a way to not overpower the taste but at the same time not to taste bland. He has mastered this art like no one else!
Always amazed at how many people have never heard of Steven wilson
I confess. And I feel very, very guilty about that.
Or Japan for that matter. Karn, Torn, David Sylvian....
I both love and abhor that most folk have never heard of Steven Wilson. I abhor because it tells us so much about what type of music and depth of that music reaches 'most' minds. I love because in a strange, egocentric way, I love the fact that relatively few of us have 'Steven to ourselves'. I know its nothing like that, but there's something juicy about being interested in something that's relatively unknown....
We love to have a close group who understands their music
@@DanielVerberneoh then you're going to love me: I know who he is, have heard alien invasion #9 or whatever it's called, and really have no appetite for his stuff. He's all yours!! 😂
Performance by Gavin Harrison leaves me Speechless.. Best drummer I've ever seen.. Totally blew me away
You're totally right. Most drummers keep beat, or just show off with their double bass, but Gavin Harrison is a full-fledged musician
He is simply the best of this era. No one combines ability with musicianship like him.
Saw him with King Crimson...fuckin' amazing!
@Ariuss Check our Matt Gartska of Animals as Leaders. He’s crazier than Gavin.
Ariuss, best I’ve ever heard
Barbieri is magic.
1:40 Pure bliss. I'm floating in Barbieri's sonic textures
Barbieri is an absolutely key member of Porcupine Tree - he's a keyboard player so different to the prog masters I know and love (like Jordan Rudess) who are technically impressive - Barbieri may be that as well, but his focus is on texture, on creating atmosphere, layers of mist-like mood envelope the music and give it so much mood! A very effective musician.
Gavin Harrison is a god...
I was about to say something similar....
Steven Wilson too!!
Agreed 100%. I just came here after seeing quite a few vids of another highly skilled drummer (I don't want to badmouth anyone). And I tried hard to like him because he is really good. But I couldn't. I came here as a Gavin Harrison fan (I have a book+CD by him: genius and very insightful) - it is like a door opened to paradise. Gavin Harrison is pure perfection.
yeh when you stand out in a band of this calibur, you know you're a fucking god
xXMushroomsteakX Heh, I own one of his Popcorn Snares :3
It really just does not get much better than this PERIOD! Gavin Harrison's ability to phrase in and out of odd meters is second to none, he has the magic feel of great funk drummers and applies it to progressive rock, there is just something about his timing that draws me in! He is simply one of the best in the biz! PT is one of those brilliant combinations, I really hope Steven Wilson keeps it going!
Batphink Fred he was
I completely agree about G. H. He carries a very good band. I listen because of him.
Is all the band my friend !
He won't anymore. This is from 2018
"I really hope Steven Wilson keeps it going!"
Well shiiieet...
I'm so glad these guys are finally back
easily one of the best bands. And john wesley's work is hugely underrated.
Alex lifesons solo on once a warrior is amazing.
As well as Colins...
Steven's such a beastly guitar player. Ridiculously underrated
Omair, I agree completely. I know Steven berates his own guitar playing, but he's so much better than most average players and he's clever and creative.
@@DanielVerberne 0la
I'll pick him any day over some technical players, specially cuz of his tone preferences.
I know I'm way late here and I agree.
I just think that it's primary because people would rather focus on what really sets him apart. That being his songwriting and ability to really make the most out of insane talents like Gavin's without letting it fly off the handles in some stupid display of prowess.
Hell, he's even managed to tame Guthrie Govan, that crazy genius. 😂
Gavin is a God.
....and Gavin hypnotizes me every time I watch this.
+ceccavara oh yes... One of the best ever!
Dat ending...
The song destroys and this performance is godlike on all levels, including new ones you've never heard of. Having said that, I've lit my drum set on fire and have permanently fired myself from creating music.
What an amazing drummer. Odd meters are hard enough, but he makes them sound so smooth and effortless ... and *melodic*. Just a great band.
Gavin Harrison shines everywhere he plays.
Gavin played the last crazy drum section of this song at a clinic I went to. I don't know how I'm still alive. It was phenomenal.
How can be 39 people disliking this? It's like the Olimpus with Gods playing prog rock. There's no way to top this. Hope PT come back some day
Don't understand...
I've never heard 7/8 played like this on the drums. I... Am... Amazed...
Lying through my teeth again
I've been bad again, black lies
Skirting round the truth again
To escape the look in your eyes
Cover up the facts again
With the money men, disguise
Losing my integrity
Well it's lost to me, I don't mind
Feel my soul going
Feel my soul colder
Blackening my soul again
With another lie, it's my style
Burying my face again
God I'm so ashamed, this time
Feel my soul going
Feel my soul colder
And that's what algebra sounds like... GH is a witch.
I always work on my math homework to this song.
whenever I see Gavin I feel like an idiot.. the man is a magician and could probably teach math!
Antoine Kanaan Yeah, he's a great mathematician. His works speak for themselves.
Yes yes yes I'm almost 70 years young there is not one song, album or live concert that is less then awesome
On Porcupine tree videos people are always comparing whos the musician that makes the song more magical. Thats ok because all of them are amazing
This band is so damn good, I mean perfect. How is it possible that I've only been aware of their existence for maybe 4 months?
Selfishly I am seriously pissed that, unless Steven Wilson has a serious change of heart, I'll never see them live.
I'm doubly pissed that I live in Atlanta where they recorded a live album titled "Atlanta".
List of things to do after inventing time machine:
1. Buy Amazon at $5/share (1997)
2. PT live in Chicago (2005)
3. PT live in Atlanta (2007)
4. PT live in Tilburg (2008)
Update. PT live in Atlanta 2023?
Ive got tickets for show in Holland in November this year. I hope you you’ll get your chance when they tour the States. Ive known them for 2 or 3 weeks now, my life will never be the same
@@LeonarBolt fingers crossed
@@timhilton7254 this might also be their last tour like Steven said so definitely try if you can.
boy do i have good news for u
Agree 100%...PT ..has everything i would want in a band ,so melodic...love the ambient stuff and then to the heavy ...they just have it all ...and everyone of them are impecable musician's..just phenomenal...why they havent gone further ..is a travesty.i guess thats up to Wilson.!although i would give a left nut to half 1% of there career
One of best drummers I've ever heard! Monumental Porcupine Tree.
The opening riff is an eartquake, and then it all keeps better and better.
I miss Porcupine Tree SO MUCH
No need to anymore :)
@@omairsh8 I know... I was SO excited when I found out they were BACK!
When I listen to this I honestly never want it to end.
I’m not a drummer but this guy is a machine on the kit.
how does anyone click dislike? My only problem is finding the "love this" button! Like doesn't do it justice. What a genius Steven Wilson is!
Incredible Drumming...I'm in awe every time I watch this guy
5:46 - I love how PT will just let the song breathe ... it's this listener's journey that makes the heavy bits in PT music truly heavy, because of the contrast.
I have that strange felling that im suppose to spread the words of God Gavin Harrison ia every video that i watch. All hail the mighty Gavin!
The breakdown around the 4-6 minute mark, the focus on atmosphere and space ... that's something I miss very much when I'm listening to something like Dream Theater, where even the idea of a gap is sometimes if not frowned-upon, then tempted to fill with more shred. I love DT of course, but I need to come back to the likes of Wilson and PT to get these musical 'breathers'.
Incredible performance. Great group effort that worked in harmony. Gavin's last part at the end is awesome !!!!!
i'm blown away every time at the end of this song. the song as a whole is a perfect balance between calm melancholy and some weird sadd rage ; and then at the end the groove locks in so tight fuck fuckkk
That little drum solo gavin does before the 2nd verse gives me chills every time. Plus gavin kills it on the outro. Awesome.
Porcupine Tree is one of the two bands in the world that I consider is close to perfection!
What's the other one, pardon me to ask?
@@PauloCarnaxide I'll speak for him and say King's X.
42 people have not a clue as to what great music and incredible musicianship is.
Fuck them 🤘🏼
Mr Harrison is a class act ......
I believe this was Porcupine Tree at their 'Zenith', just amazing everything they did was top notch!
Pine tree remind me dozens of albums from the 70's.The quality of the sound is amazing.Thank you porcupine tree
Greatest band in the world. Stunning music.
Love this song 🎵 ❤️
This song gets better and better each time I listen to it. Watching them play it live ramps it up another x10!
i look in reverential respect at them playing producing such great sound. SW definitely is up there with the greats
The live sound for DVD and Blu-Ray was mixed by drummer Gavin Harrison as far as I know.
This is my favourite FOABP song of theirs. Rarely get tired of it.
i love porcupine tree!!
That intro is post rock heaven......Great song and a big fan....New album in 2022 !!!!
And freedom without a health passport......
How fucking beautiful. Just stunning.
I like Wilson's solo stuff a lot, but Gavin and Barbieri are sorely missed
There is good, there is perfect and there is Porcupine tree!!!! A never ending love story😊
These guys are absolutely insane. Their musicianship is unmatched these days. While the brains behind the 5-some are Gavin and Wilson, the other 3 members of the group are top-notch.
THIS IS AWESOME FANTASTIC INTELIGENT TALENTED MUSICIANS BEST PROGRESIVE GROUP TODAY AND ONE OF THE BEST DRUMMERS EVER GAVIN HARISON BEAUTIFUL
One of the best performances ever. And it sounds brilliant, too. Really need to get this Blu-Ray and CD.
Sold! As soon as I heard the 'rage' portion (2:26) as well as the lyrics. Got my attention.
These guys didn't play absurdly fast, but never fail to sound f**king heavy! So much musicianship! Perfect!
These guys are the best! LOVE IT!
they are awesome musicians!
still love it!!
this song proves that Gavin also has more than just great drumming capabilities but is also a great songwriter!
I am blessed to have porcupine tree in my music journey, deeply inspired
I understand. I like that concept. I was reading an article in Sound on Sound yesterday. It was over 12 years old but Gavin has a studio too in his house for recording drums. Has a massive 40 foot room in his house. The room was built for building art sculptures. He treated it acoustically to remove the extra reverb. I wonder what it's like now.
Dropped from fear of a blank planet!? How was I supposed to know about this song!? Took me two years to hear this :/
But :D
Sarthak Khanna Nil Recurring :P
It's on Nil Recurring
It says a lot about a band when even their B sides are god tier. But this was nothing new about PT.
from 1.41 to 1.53 : a Masterpiece! Thank You Barbieri
There are so many great songs are there but this one is always stays in my soul because this is my story
This song is a freaking masterpiece.
Never fails to give me goosebumps
GREAT SONG LIVE!!!
Show! Banda incrível. 👍👍👏👏👏
That is funny:
I was searching for "Greatest Drummer" and found this! lol
That's right! thank you!
Awesome band and an excellent recording. Saw them at the same venue for the recording of their upcoming release. Seen them many times....they never disappoint.
I've been a musician and a fan of prog for years, but I can't remember ever seeing so much hostility among supposed fans before. It's as if it's become a contest about who's better or best, or which album or version of the respective band was the shit....How ridiculous! Just enjoy what you enjoy, and let the band know it! Peace
Mesmerising drumming from Gavin.
Omg GH give me sum more, MORE!
AWWWWW!!!...Feel my soul going Feel my soul colder Blackening my soul again..!!!!!
Mais uma performance impecável do Procupine Tree.....eles bem que poderiam vir ao Brasil.....
what an amazing song. Sitting in the office, doing some image analysis with this in my earplugs. Auto pilot on...
This live one just blew my mind!!!! Dammmmmmnnn
Been waiting to here this song live for soooo long. Thanks
Gavin really nails this one. Wow.
Here is to hoping Gavin and all of PT begin recording an album for 2014.
Holy..... shit....... Simply amazing!!
Thank you!
Gavin Harrison is a beast
Saw The Incident tour in Chicago 2010 - pre-ordered the CD/DVD to re-live the awesomeness called Porcupine Tree! Can't wait til Nov. 19 ; )
there you go, Gavin and his mathematics. Bliss.
They are incredible musicians
Awesomeness 🎶
I'm glad I got to see them live.....All be it just once.
Are the best concerts I ever saw Irving Plaza Gavin Harrison is God he played the shit out of this tour
Filmed in Tilburg, i was there😁
Fantastic gavin and your specialized style, and SW is a very complete musician, with barberi, wesley and colín from PT all together were magic...for me better than SW solo. Come back!!
1st time ever hearing this ...
Wow... 🎸🔥🥁🔥🎤🔥🎼🔥
I only see people talking about Harrison and Barbieri in this performance, but Wilson's guitar intro is beautiful.
Increíble ♥
Just sit, watch, listen....and smile.
I love how 7:40 is the most replayed, as it's just everyone sitting here trying to figure out what in the unholy fk Gavin Harrison just did at the end of the song
Definitivamente lo mejor grasias
I'll be honest, I'm not sure what his name is. But the keyboard player is amazing. The soundscapes he invents add so much depth to their music.
Cant believe this was 10 years ago, i was 4 when this came out...jeez
