Shawn, Have to let you know sharing your knowledge with us is the most giving thing I can think of. I still remember reading and rereading the articles in Hot Rod back in the seventies from John Kilgore giving step by step mods on the T400 then I would try them and go burn rubber. Thank you for inspiring me to work my T400 before I bolt it back to my Pontiac 455 HO i and drop it in my 72 K10.
I loved the series and I think she's a beaut. Makes me want to pull the th400 out of my camaro to see what's been done, how many pump bolts, etc, etc. Full manual reverse valve body.
I had to go back an look at that pan because I've been looking for one but I did use an aluminum pan for a th350 and the standard 1/2 bolts were to big around thats why it had the Allen head bolts.
To get that stone really clean, get 2 stones and rub them together under a steady flow of solvent in your pahts washah. They will look brand new in just a few minutes and you won't believe how much better they work when clean. Norton makes the best India and Arkansas stones. .....or any abrasive stone for that matter.
My experience cleaning heavy rust.. I found 5% vinegar ($2 bucks a gallon). I liked the results of 2 weeks in vinegar better than using Evap-O-rust stuff.
Hello Shawn. I've enjoyed every one of your videos. I currently have a backlog of TH400's lined up in the garage. Most of my trans work is for drag racers, classic car collectors, and military Humvee owners. I'm in the process of installing an Ultra-Bell onto an 8 bolt case. I'm impressed with how your rebuilds look clean enough to eat off of. What's your method for cleaning the case, trans components prior to rebuilding? Take care
I have a rotary parts washer cabinet, it does a pretty good job after lots of manual cleaning. Old paint is a nightmare. Internal parts either get run in there or cleaned with brake parts cleaner. I go through many cases if that! Thanks for watching!
How did everything on this trans work out?....especially that billet valve body and trans brake? Oh, one more thing, what is the difference a th400 and th475? Thanks
I wanted to see your turbos.. I watched a bunch of the Nova videos..Did i hear you say turbo/carburetor? You've driven some pretty fast car.. did you build them?
I had a a couple videos that had them mocked up on the 72 Nova, both single and twins. Check the playlist. I built a few tube chassis drag cars, the last one I had I bought as a roller, an old Pro Mod. I ran 7.50 @ 180MPH. The turbo set up will be Holley EFI, just bought that last week.
Shawn, you use the stock intermediate clutch retainer ring. I see some builders tack weld the ring in place. I thought i was being smart and ordering a spiral lock.. nope ordered the wrong ring twice! LOL. I heard the ring can come off at high rpm's.. Thoughts? Cheers
Yes I use the 4L80E Intermediate sprag spiral lock. I dont weld it as they interlock to themselves somewhat. I also use either a spiral lock or a HD snap ring in the case for the intermediate clutches.
Using the spiral lock allowed for an additional .020" play in the clutch pack it needed. Watching one of the turbo videos..You make made me laugh by saying " I got up early today" i'm laughing again... 5AM is late for you?
Wondering if you can send me email. I have a lot of questions on parts you use. Getting into rebuilding transmissions for heavy abuse. And could use any suggestions as needed.
"I lahv throwin' away moah pahts....that just don't need to be theh" Priceless Mountain moments! Good stuff as always Shawn.
Love it!

I will try that!
Thanks!!
It is pretty, and I do love transmissions 😂😂😂
Finally found an 8 bolt case, in my stash of cores. Tag says 73 and had plastic vent line. I was surprised. 🤘
Interesting!
I’m building up a case right now that has a 73-CJ tag, plastic vent also.
It's definitely pretty if you love transmissions
I've used those blue moroso reusable pan gasket for the th350 and th400 and haven't had any issues. I am interested in that gasket you used.
another great video
Super duper show!
👍👍👍
